My first apartment in my home town was actually ridiculously nice. It was in a building near the lake, had parquet floors, two huge high-ceilinged bedrooms and an expansive floor plan with built in bookcases. The walls were plaster and my roommate, an architect, painted them blue and cream. It seemed wrong for two young women to be in such a luxe apartment.
However, it wasn’t all that great. The woman who lived upstairs sent her nutjob kid to some fancy private school and ALWAYS wore wooden clogs when she was walking around. (I suggested we send her rugs for Christmas.) Our stove dated back to 1952 and our fridge, 1962. I had to park two blocks away and trudge home with groceries in the snow. (Worse yet, my roommate took the bus.) And once we got broken into. (Idiots stole my HP calculator—like they knew what to do with it!)
This apartment from Barnesworth Anubis is kind of a very very fancy version of my apartment. OK, it has parquet floors–that’s where it ends. The views are better, the woodwork is less battered, and the furniture and fixtures are much fancier. He is offering this beautiful set at Collabor88 so get it now!
This darling vintage-styled dress would have been great in that neighborhood—it is sort of young and chic. My roommate collected vintage (and still thrifts quite a bit). Barbra Kungler made this cute dress with a wonderfully textured raw silk top and a print skirt on a perfectly made mesh silhouette. I love the proportion of this dress, the print, the styling—all top notch.
Caroline Apollo offers the necklace I am wearing with some other pieces at the Vintage Fair as well, and the daisies just seemed apt for this ensemble. My skin is one of Agony Helse’s new Meg V2 skins. Love the brows and the chose of lipsticks, which give me ample opportunity to find a combo that worked. And Ikon Innovia’s bleached eyes finish my look perfectly.
So many years later I can still see my roommate’s windowboxes up on that building every time I pass.
