Annie started playing violin in Suzuki lessons when she was 4. She loved it—the power to make a sound by simply manipulating a wire, the communal feeling of producing a clamor with other people, the formality of holding the violin and listening to the teacher. It was like entering a sacred space of performance that took her out of her every day.

As she got older, she got more serious and when she left high school, she opted to attend conservatory rather than start pre-med as her parents had hoped. She moved to Boston after she finished her studies and became a free-lance musician. It is a struggle–she lives in a cramped apartment which is overheated, she has no car or insurance, and her parents often remind her she could have done better. But when she plays, she is moved to another place and feels transcendent happiness.

This is Annie today as she goes out to a rehearsal in the Boston cold—shearling coat from Ivy Burner, silver jeans from Redgrave and boots from G Field. And of course, a violin strapped to her back.

She comes to life because of Carina Larsen. I saw this skin at a fair and haven’t had a chance to blog it yet and I regret that because it’s in Carina’s unique style with a beautiful East Asian eye, so for those ladies looking to find East Asian skins, this line may do it. MissAllSunday Lemon made this darling mesh braid with bangs that completes my look.
