The Trophy Wife

16 11 2010

The trophy wife doesn’t have it easy. She is constantly under the scrutiny of not only her husband but also those around her who envy her or are critical of her.

The Trophy Wife

When a woman is under that kind of pressure it makes perfect sense that she must go shopping. And when doing so, she must make sure she shows off the gifts her fine husband has given her (so as not to hurt his feelings, of course). Take for example, this fine fur bolero and silk slacks and leather boots from MariaElena Barbosa, which is this season’s latest for MEB. The outfit has been deconstructed a bit (wearing the bra alone as it was included with the outfit will definitely NOT meet with the approval of the husband) so a silky tank from Janie Marlowe has been tucked in underneath.

A pashmina around the waist from Alla Ruff (purchased on their last trip to Milan) ties the look together while a Monicuzza Babenco designer handbag that she has recolored (from black as offered to brown—bless Monicuzza for making her handbag modifiable) is the punctuation on the outfit. She loves the huge diamond studs from Dnel DaSilva her husband gave her to make up for being late for dinner one night. (She has a very fine pout and uses it when it’s needed.) And do not forget the statement ring, this time replacing her wedding ring, which is out right now being reset with yet a larger diamond.

The Trophy Wife

Her skin is, of course, young and flawless. That’s why he married her. (Well that and her other young and toned physical features.) Tuli Asturias provides her youth and her professional makeup. Her casual but classy blonde-dyed updo is courtesy of Elikapeka Tiramisu, a new look at Elika’s salon. (And let me break out of the narrative to suggest that Elika’s Essentials Pack is the ONLY way to go when buying her hair. For a mere 250L, you get what is, ostensibly, a fat pack of colors which will be versatile for many looks.)

Meetings

24 10 2010

I have been attending lots of meetings lately.

Meetings

For meetings, it’s best to leave off the bling and the tight revealing miniskirt and the fringed bra. It’s best to be remembered for your contributions and not your apparel. That’s why I wear this pretty but conservative ensemble which starts with the jacket from MariaElena Barbosa’s Marlene set. It has elements that are photosourced and it’s well constructed with a peplum skirt and smart cuffs. My skirt is a pretty one from como Setsuko, who has a whole gatcha full of these skirts. Shoes are a conservative and pleasing silhouette from Fallingwater Cellardoor. (I just love Fallingwater’s shoes—they are classy and versatile. I could see this pair working with a very sexy outfit just as easily.)

Meetings

My skin is from Kira Ahn’s sale at dekade. I really liked the Vivienne set in the Bardot line. It’s sophisticated, mature and beautiful with a variety of makeups. Pick it up before Kira’s sale ends because once it’s gone, I presume it’s gone. Earrings are pretty little baubles from Delora Starbrook and I pulled my hair up in a ponytail from Parvarti Monday. Easy peasy.

Blonde Ambition

1 07 2010

Open the pages of Town and Country and you will see society ladies posing at various black-tie events with their hair blown out, their make-up professionally applied, their brand-new designer dresses freshly pressed. Who are these women?

Blonde Ambition

Well in SL, this woman is Harper and she has a brand new dress from MariaElena Barbosa, part of the summer collection at MEB. The entire collection has a black and white theme, and MariaElena finished it off with this formal piece. With its ruched bodice, open skirt and designer look, this dress is perfect for the society woman, especially with spectator pumps from Onyx LeShelle.

Blonde Ambition

I show with this volume-pumped style from Lamb Bellic’s recent 50L Friday offering and Tuli Asturias’ exclusive skin being offered at The Deck. The vibrant makeup offsets the monochrome of the outfit. I show a beautiful necklace from AvaGardner Kungler with this dress. Perhaps it needed diamonds or something smaller but our society lady wanted to make a statement with this necklace.

Spring Fling

10 03 2010

I ran around today doing errands and enjoying the promise of spring (though there is still snow on the ground). We’re almost over that hump. We’re alllllmost there.

Spring Fling

MEB has released their spring collection and MariaElena Barbosa has a set of clothing that will put some fling in your spring. I show here a dress she sent that includes the excellently textured sculpty belt and the pumps. I love the print of this dress—it’s proportionally well done, elegant and fun at once. I like the silhouette of the whole dress, from the sculpty collar to the fun flirty skirt cinched with the belt.

Spring Fling

I accessorized with Zaara Kohime’s beautiful onyx jewelry. Not a lot of creators can cover clothing and jewelry and give both justice—Zaara pulls it off. She has wisely not decided to attempt skins or shoes. She knows where her best work is done. A peek at her offerings at the Accessory Fair is enough to make any fashionista faint (and any builder offer homage to Zaara because it’s clear she is not using a script to place her prims). Wow!

Snow Girl

25 11 2009

I am still on this kick about what to wear to keep warm. There are dozens of beautiful winter-themed sims all over the grid and it looks mighty silly if you show up in a bikini or a fairy costume. So here is some more winter goodness.

Snow Girl

The scenario is that I am out on the plains of the Midwest, fighting off the brisk wind rolling over the flatlands off the Rockies. This puffy parka from AIR Winx is a clever mix of sculpty prims, flexi furry prims, and system pieces with an ingenious satiny quilted texture. The thing looks real, folks.. all I can say. And it’s VERY warm. And it has that nice airy squishy feeling that is so delish. The jacket comes with a striped gray and black sweater underneath—but you don’t have to wear it.

Snow Girl

Casual jeans from Kaejo DaSilva (thanks, KK) work with this outfit. (KK is very scrupulous about her wardrobe—whatever doesn’t work gets trashed immediately. She has had these jeans a while and loves them. I can see why.) I plopped earmuffs from Antonia Marat on my head—she didn’t have purple but white matches all and since when do YOUR earmuffs always match your jacket?

A beautiful luscious skin from Hart Larsson makes me a winter beauty with its fresh glowing tan and well drawn eyebrows. (Really.. it’s about the eyebrows.. it really REALLY is.) A short cute hairstyle, pinned back, from Truth Hawks, tops this fresh air look.

Snow Girl

I once lived in this part of the fair Midwest, in a state where people spent an inordinate amount of time talking about their boots. “Like your boots… where’dya get ‘em… They sure look warm.” These boots from MariaElena Barbosa would do well in that wintery clime, mud-spattered and scuffed from good old-fashioned hard work. These are for girls who know how to pitch hay.

Business Time

8 09 2009

I recently met with Gentle Heron of Virtual Ability, Inc. in world at my villa. We had met at SLCC and found we liked each other a lot and had a lot to share. Gentle’s organization was one of the first winners of the $10,000 USD Linden Prize. In collaboration with a number of residents, including my friend Pecos Bill, Gentle has raised the bar for non-profits in SL.

We specifically meant to discuss fashion for members of her group–people who are disabled and live in SL. They have various concerns—how do you wear a prim skirt if you are in a wheelchair and it hangs down, how do you dress if you are sight impaired, how do you seek the support of creators in world and bring awareness? Gentle estimates that 20% of our residency has some form of disability which hampers them in using SL. That’s a lot of folks who find enjoyment and fun but just need a little help and since I know a little bit about prim skirts, I wanted to help. We had a great meeting.

Business Time

To meet with Gentle, I wanted to dress appropriately for business. While she is an open-minded lady and actually a lot of fun, I wanted to show her how much I respected her work and her group by making my avatar reflect my seriousness (and my fashion savoir faire).

Business Time

So I chose this classy outfit from MEB’s 2009 Fall Collection. While MariaElena Barbosa uses photo sourced textures, she does so with skill and elegance. She has combined sculpty cuffs and collar in a manner that makes the silhouette of this blouse sharp and stylish. And the slacks look tailored and rich.

I will note that she includes the pair of shoes she shows in the panel photo with this outfit. I purchased another outfit where she showed boots in the photo and received shoes instead, which I found disappointing. MariaElena needs to work a little on truth in advertising.

Business Time

Autumn Hykova’s appropriately-named “Posh” was a perfect accompaniment to the outfit along with Pulse’s fresh Valeries Wheat/Blush skin. I accessorized with Cora Lu’s Steel Spikes for Paper Couture and of course, my favorite slingbacks from SKGShoes, the Alina Slingback Pumps.
