Pretty is as Pretty Does

18 02 2010

I have a few friends in SL that I speak to more in IM than face to face. We don’t get together and party. We don’t play together. We just talk about inane things, like jelly donuts and who is cute and how crappy it is to go through rolling restarts. Nothing earth-shattering but very friendly and fun.

Pretty is as Pretty Does

Delora Starbrook is my sugar plum for such stuff. She IMs me, we chatter. She is designing—tweaking and tinkering and uploading, and I am writing blogs and sorting inventory and moving prims around. I have the sneaking hunch we are like two office workers, chatting across our desks while we work. She is the girl in the desk on the other side of the cubicle. Under normal circumstances we would not know each other but in this crazy place, we are thrown together and rather like each other.

Delora has delighted me more than once—in naming a camisk after me, in trying to quit smoking, and now in sharing her lovely work. This lovely tea-length dress by Delora reveals a beautiful mind, one that loves romance and prettiness. She has perfected her textures, layering brocade with subtle shadows and sheen. Here she combines sculpties and flexis well, making an overall dress that would make any woman feel beautiful wearing it.

Pretty is as Pretty Does

I show the dress with a dewy skin from Gala Phoenix and pretty let-down locks from Parvarti Monday. Cailyn Miller’s jewelry stands the test of time in SL—I believe I received this choker in 2007, and it still looks beautiful today.

Happy Valentine’s Day

14 02 2010

This is for my loved ones—my friends. Happy Valentine’s Day, dear ones, when only romantic love plays a featuring role but when we should talk about love in its wholeness. Not just eros but also philia and agape. This is for you, my friends, who make my first and second lives so rich and fulfilling.

Happy Valentine's Day

I show a mixed bag here of a terrific (topless) corset by LeeZu Baxter combined with a blouse from Migi Voom. I have owned this corset from LeeZu a while but have always had the quandary of where to wear it—there just aren’t a lot of places I go where a topless corset is called for. However, this little top from Migi Voom suited it perfectly, and it was a perfect combination.

Happy Valentine's Day

I have been wearing this hair from Queue Marlowe endlessly. Really, it’s getting to be a problem. I wore it to model for RFyre, I wore it earlier this week for a blog, and I wore it with this outfit when I went out dancing at Tiphares with my dear friends last Sunday. It’s my love hair.

Let me put a little plug in here for my nails too, which you can barely see, but which are freakin’ fantastic. Made for modeling poses specifically, these prim nails are worn on size 20 hands and can be clicked to adjust to the 7 different hand gestures that come with poses—relaxed, spread, typing, salute, point, peace, and fist. They fit perfectly every time without adjustment once you click the menu. And click longer and you get a variety of color choices. The natural nails are exquisite. They are highly recommended (and frequently worn since SC always wants nails when I model for him.)

Happy Valentine's Day

Finally, these terrific pumps from Vitamin Chemistry complete the ensemble with their sexy shape and smart buckle. Pretty girls everywhere are going to want these shoes with their fine attention to detail (the great buckle, the dark soles, the well textured shoe, the steel heel tip). Va-voom!

Masked

12 02 2010

Sometimes we are masked when we love. We cover up parts of ourselves to intrigue our partners. Sometimes our partners are masked. The mystery is intoxicating.

Masked

Your Valentine might be such a lady—a mystery girl. If she is, this great little set from Kimmera Madison might get her going. With its lacy bra and reribboned corset (pulled tightly), it makes mystery so seductive. Release for Valentine’s, this is one of several different pieces Kimmera is offering. There is bound to be one for your Valentine (pun intended).

Masked

Just in time for Valentine’s, Bax Coen offers these sumptuous red suede boots as part of her Prestige series. With offerings from bright red to wine, all in one boot, the boots can be resized identically to your previously custom-fitted boots by simply making the old ones “speak” and pasting that chat for the new ones to “hear.” Bax offers such a ingenious set of scripts in these boots with gorgeous textures and to-do-for shape, it’s a wonder we ever take them off.

Masked

I show this with a devastating skin from Twilythula Sorbet. I went poking around on a sim looking at others and stumbled into her store. She doesn’t have a large collection and it’s not as developed as other skin makers, but what I see in this set is pretty nice. I look forward to seeing more from her.

Painting the Town Red

2 02 2010

For the next week, I will be preparing the romantic half of my readership (that is all of you who need to find gifts for your ladies) to shop smartly. I will specifically be focusing on evening gowns and elegance as ladies like to be given them something to look pretty. (Next week I will show another kind of pretty ;))

Painting the Town Red

In your first shopping foray, make sure you hit Moxie Polano’s Haute Couture. She offers most if not all her dresses transferable. And Moxie makes beautiful evening wear. Here I show a piece she made for her 12 Days of Christmas series, but it could be worn any time because the motif is red roses. In fact, this would be an IDEAL Valentine’s Day gift (*bangs you over the head with the hint*). The skirt can be worn without the prims for a sexy sheath.

Painting the Town Red

Now let me explain why Moxie is the real deal. First, the seams. Her seams are absolutely utterly perfect. Her textures have a beautiful sheen. She makes pieces that women want to wear because they cling in all the right places. And she offers a great value. This dress was very inexpensively priced for what it offers and included great prim shoes.

Painting the Town Red

I am wearing very exquisitely built jewelry from yoona Mayo. Her pieces combine imagination with just amazing tiny prim work and great textures. They are incredibly inexpensive (we are talking 45-65L per piece or set). However they are not transferable, whcih seems counterintuitive for jewelry. What you do is take your honey to her shop, drop 500L on her and she fills up her jewelry box with a LOT.

Finally the hair Kavar Cleanslate has offered for the sale at the Greenies’ Sim. The great thing is he offered all the braids and glowsticks as add-ons, so without them you just have a sexy tousled updo.

Lick My Boots*

31 01 2010

The post is all about the boots. That is really what I am going for here. Check it out.

Boots

First let me tell you about this cute outfit. Another offering from Aurora Vuissent, my latest low Linden find, this outfit has great highwaisted tweed pants with a cute halter top. Keep ‘em coming, Aurora. I’ll be back!

Boots

OK, the boots. Now, before you go clickclickclicking on that slurl, I have to tell you up front that the boots are located in a shop that would not be to everyone’s liking. If you are at all offended by sexual content on SL, then do not go to the shop. My intent is not to bring you into my secret fantasy life (of which there is none) or expose you to potentially offensive materials, of which there are plenty in the shop. However, if you can shield your eyes, hold your breath, and step past the uh.. other accoutrements, the boots are right inside the door on a vendor and you can get in and out in a minute.

That being said, Yhis Khorana provides boots with a multiplicity of charms. First of all, there is the beautiful shape to the boot, the great building, the terrific textures, AND a menu that allows you to custom color parts of the boot as you wish. I clicked around and was able to make my boots wholly black with red trim and black laces but you can combine sections of the boot (the toe, the heel, the shank) in different colors as well as the metal and laces. You can also do other things with these boots related to the above-mentioned uses (am I the Queen of Euphemism or what?) but really, who needs that? Yhis states in the explanation notecard that additional textues will be offered later. I encourage Yhis to get the boots out of ponyland and into the rest of SL—s/he’ll make a killing!

Boots

Finally I top it off with a very nice domme sort of hair from Morgan Kincess. I would encourage you to clickclickclick through on that slurl. Last time I was at Digital Eyes, Morgan had an amazing art gallery with a great exhibit of RL photographs from another artist and a perfect build for the show.

Hey, Red!

23 12 2009

It’s interesting. You walk into this world. You have to make a “self.” When I first walked into SL, it was clear to me that I would have to have red hair. I am not sure what decided this for me so distinctly, but there you go—I had to be a redhead.

I have since diverged from this, of course. I have even worn blonde hair, which was a huge step for me personally. (Nothing against blondes. I just never saw myself as having light hair. I can’t explain it.) And I always go for the easy choice in clothes—red. (Which looks good on me in RL too.) So today, I went the easy route and chose red.

Hey, Red!

I found this dress at a store on a new sim called Period. The creator, Memai Avon, presented a number of great separates—skirts, tops, tights, leggings. Nothing was outre or niche. She offered simple, inexpensive separates that could serve in many circumstances. I purchased this pretty dress with it’s red rose motif. My shopping partner and I agreed that the flat black through the dress was kind of a cheat (black hides a lot of mistakes and problems), but the dress was reasonably priced and looks great worn, and she has a lot of other great pieces that show quite a bit of skill.

Hey, Red!

At the same mall we found some spectacular hair by Ilze Erin. Offering several styles that frame the face in a most complimentary fashion, her store deserves attention and I hope we see more from her. I dressed up this ensemble with jewelry from DarionMonkee Levitt. It’s really cute stuff made by a person who clearly has incredible patience.

Hey, Red!

And check out these shoes. Red straps, red nails—*click click* and I have them on these sexy sandals from Maris Kanto. Maris is a scripter extraordinaire (or knows one) because these shoes have a great hud for adjusting skin tone (a notch at a time so you can SEE what it will look like), nails, and hardware and size. Add to that the fun of shopping at Kalnins—regular shoppers get discounts and points based on the scripts used in the vendors. It’s all about the experience, from shopping to wearing.

The Beauty of the Flamenco

20 12 2009

The dancer’s trembling heart must bring everything into harmony, from the tips of her shoes to the flutter of her eyelashes, from the rustles of her dress to the incessant play of her fingers. Shipwrecked in a field of air, she must measure lines, silences, zigzags and rapid curves, with a sixth sense of aroma and geometry, without ever mistaking her terrain. In this she resembles the torero, whose heart must keep to the neck of the bull. Both of them face the same danger–he, death; and she, darkness.
~ Federico Garcia Lorca

The Beauty of the Flamenco

Today I had the holiday party for the residents of my sims and my friends. Arimo Texeira performed most beautifully, and we all enjoyed doing the flamenco, tango, and salsa in a pretty build by Eshi Otawara (she snuck in and fixed the mess I made).

It is expected that when I host a party I show up dressed for the theme. I was able to fulfill my duties most spectacularly in a dress by Nardya Rousselot. Known for her beautiful textures, Nardya is also a great builder and very smart with system pieces. In this dress, she layers her pieces skillfully with a filigreed bottom system skirt layered over a one-legged system pants with prims arranged artfully in the skirt to produce both a train and a peekaboo leg. She echoes the filigree along the bottoms of the prims with clean pixel edges and perfect transparent edges to her prims. (I can’t tell you how many dresses on the grid don’t pass muster because of this one detail. Pay attention, creators! This is the difference between an amateur and a professional. It’s easy to do right.)

The Beauty of the Flamenco

Fortunately I received Tuli Asturius’ group gift today, an absolutely drop dead gorgeous skin which suits me quite well. With its touches of glitter, fresh skin, subtle blush and muted lip color, it was ideal with this dress. (Often we think wearing a bold make-up—red lips, dark eyes—is right for a bold dress. That’s not always true). I wore Caliah Lyon’s holiday gift from last year—a neck bow with bells—to add festive flair.

The Beauty of the Flamenco

Finally, Nardya recently sent out a pair of ruby slippers as a gift to her group. These matched the dress perfectly in style and color. Nardya introduced a set of beautiful shoe styles at the Shoe Fair this year with beautiful textures and shapes. I look forward to seeing more from her. My ugly avatar feet call out to you, Nardya!

Girl Gone Bad

18 10 2009

After a few days of blogging big poofy skirted pink dresses, it’s time to switch gears and focus on an entirely different look and side of my personality.

Girl Gone Bad

So I threw on this brillant black jacket from Asalt Eames, sure to become a standard in every woman’s wardrobe in SL with it’s excellent black leather textures and beautiful buttons, studs, and buckles. Underneath I tucked a bra from Aimee Weber (yeah, THAT one… she made lingerie once.. she’s done it all!) And to make the look a little rockabilly, capris from Aleida Rhode, rolled up below the knee

Girl Gone Bad

I finished it off with the appropriately named Wild Woman hair from Miasnow Myriam (glow turned down) and Tesla Mill’s hot new rockin’ 6” stilettos. These are dangerous! And Monicuzza Babenco’s great RougePunk skin makes it complete.

What to Wear to Burning Life, Part 2

3 10 2009

As part of an ongoing series here (well ok, this is the second post.. we’ll see if it’s a “series”), I am bringing post number two to you about what to wear to Burning Life.

What to wear to BL, Part 2

To review: wear socks and comfortable shoes because the playa dust can get to you and you’re walking around a lot. What was not mentioned is that it can get cold on the playa at night, so layering is always suggested.

What to wear to BL, Part 2

This is a pretty conservative look for the playa. With this great leather blouson red jacket from AIR Winx and the simple V-neck tee from cocoro Lemon, this look really could work anywhere. I am wearing my FAVORITE jeans from Kazu Pinklady. If someone could wear out pixels, I would have done it with these jeans, I have worn them so many times. (You may see transparencies in the jeans soon…..)

What to wear to BL, Part 2

I put on Bratty Slade’s necklace and bracelet to dress it up. Just cuz you’re casual doesn’t mean you have to be plain.

What to wear to BL, Part 2

Finally, and that is what this whole blog is about—the shoes. I got these beauties from a new designer, Magnifico Muggins. A lovely Austrian woman, Magnifico is entering SL in a big way with a full line of boots and shoes. This is just the tip of the iceberg. This sweet little sneaker includes a hud with color changing so you can switch the look of the entire outside. This black and red combo suited me really well. But there are some other great color combos. Available for women and men! (You are gonna see more from this lady in this blog soon.. I am digging her work.)

Life in Another World

19 09 2009

There is a whole universe of people in SL: the role players, the ones who choose to draw a distinct line between their real life selves and their online selves. Refugees of WoW or Eve Online end up in our multi-faceted, flexible and very fashion-conscious universe. They bring with them their fantastic aesthetic and attention to detail. And RPers are served the goods in SL—they always get the good stuff!

Life in Another World

Take for example, Teklili Tantalus’ work. I first got turned on to Tek when I saw some of his jewelry in an Elven sim. Then I saw his great hair pieces at Hair Fair last year. Fast forward to this year, and through a fortuitous connection, we are friends!

Life in Another World

Tek sent over one of his latest pieces—Alecto. Based on Tek’s extraordinary imagination and artistry, his line of fantasy wear is growing. His textures are luscious, his building skills exact, his user-friendly approach ideal. For example, in this set, you are treated to multiple pieces that have been adjusted for the right attachment points. You receive 4 staffs—for left and right hands, animated and not.

Life in Another World

The prims fit like a glove. Tek explained that he had the AV mesh imported into blender and worked on the sculpts directly on it. He provides a shape but if your shape is not to the extreme, these will fit you as well. (They fit my shape perfectly.)

Life in Another World

Check out the details in this ensemble—the buckles, the curvy metal pieces, the gems. The bra fits perfectly, the armor needed no adjustment. The building is flawless. (If you visit Tek’s store, make sure you check out the rest of the build. There is an incredible cavernous world outside the store.)

Life in Another World

You get a variety of armor under which you find the spectacular system pieces (notice how I am getting more naked as this blog goes on…?) I was blown away by the system pieces. Not a seam. Only the best ripples. All hand drawn artistry. Amazing!

Life in Another World

I am wearing one of Pulse’s new fantasy skins. Lorac worked on these as a request from a customer and ended up with a brilliant set of skins—not just drow but several other colors (including a delicious Martian green). I topped this with hair from another brilliant creator, Helyanwe Vindaloo. Her extensive collection at Deviant Kitties is for the adventurous fashionista. With her incredible textures and creative and sexy hair, Helyanwe sets the bar high. This style is funky and elegant all at once.

Life in Another World

Bringing the sexy back to RP:

Hair: Misty – Silver by Helyanwe Vindaloo for Deviant Kitties

Skin: Pulse Skin-Rebirth/The Drow 2-The Dream by Lorac Farella for Pulse Skins

Eyes: Pulse Eyes/Poe by Lorac Farella for Pulse Skins
