Nicky Ree is one of the best designers in SL.

I am tempted to qualify that with all manner of caveats but I won’t. Not today. I will only qualify the statement by saying that Nicky is a real person–a genuinely nice lady with a great, loving (and witty) husband and a good first life (I know both of them).

There are many great designers in SL. But none has quite the touch that Nicky has or the vision for dressmaking. There’s a reason for this. When Nicky was growing up in Singapore, her mother was a bespoke dressmaker. Wealthy ladies would come in and have Nicky’s mom design and sew dresses for them for every day wear and special functions. Nicky would help her mother in the shop.

So it all makes sense that Nicky has such a fabulous sense of proportion, of accessorizing, of colors and of fit. She was raised on this.

I have chosen one of my MANY dresses designed by Nicky Ree, one that has personal significance to me, to show. I enjoy doing the flamenco with my friends who live on my sims, Avant Garde and Vanguard, and this is the dress I wear when I dance alongside my friend KK (she has the red version). Nicky has designed the dress with exquisite attention to the details—the flower prims are beautifully textured and perfectly placed around the décolletage, the skirt terraces up the leg on one side, making the flamenco’s emotional intensity show as they flare with each step.

I am showing it with this amazing hair from Biedermanns. This hair has color changing roses that can be shown or not shown and a loose ponytail or loose bun. The fun part is when you change the hair—for instance, removing the flowers–your arms animate, going up and “rearranging” your hair.

I am wearing one of Ryker Beck’s lovely skins from her Shiloh line. Her skins, obviously hand-drawn, are developing quite a following, and I appreciate that she follows her own aesthetic and doesn’t get caught up in the over-dodged, photorealistic look so many like.

Finished the look with Shiny Things’ black Belles. A woman dancing does not need to be in stilettos.
