The “high fashion” content makers of SL seem to be releasing at the beginning of this year, smartly eschewing the noise of the holiday season and tempting us with their wares once all the revelry has passed.
It’s an interesting business model—releasing in batches amid considerable fanfare and then lying fallow for weeks or months as another collection is made. Thora Charron recently released the Ultra collection at LeLutka to much noise. I found these pants there. With their wrinkly vinyl-like texture and modern print, the texture has much to recommend it and is one of the best pieces offered in the collection, in my opinion. (In fact, the most compelling were those that relied on well-done system pieces. Sometimes using sculpties for the sake of using them does not mean good design.)
I paired it with this brilliant top from LeeZu Baxter. This is the first time I have ever found something to go with this top suitably. This top is almost painterly in its approach to light and detail. Gorgeous. Both pieces show the designers’ skill and thoughtfulness about system pieces. Both highlight their artistic abilities. And both are raising the bar in SL. If this is the future for SL, I am all for it.
I paired with a skin from Gala Phoenix. The Curio skins I purchased are growing on me. At first I was put off by their little-girlness but I think I saw them on too many anime-styled shapes. I still feel they look young but without the big eyes and little moue mouth I have seen it so often stretched over, I am admiring their best features—well blended lights and shadows, expressive eyes, full lush petulant lips, and a nose without the dirty white/gray smudge so many have.
