Funny How Time Slips Away

Well hello there
My, it’s been a long long time
How am I doin’
Oh well, I guess I’m doin’ fine
It’s been so long now and it seems that
It was only yesterday
Ain’t it funny how time slips away

~ Willie Nelson, “Funny How Time Slips Away”

Funny How Time Slips Away

Today’s post was inspired by an old recording of a Willie Nelson song, “Funny How Time Slips Away,” the one recorded in 1962 with the ladies crooning in the background. He also wrote “Crazy,” very famously performed by Patsy Cline. Hence today’s look, which is built on the foundation of a great skin by Keiko Morigi, poignant in its illustrative character (so unlike the many airbrushed looks we see around the grid). I top it with a great vintage ‘do from Bubbles Clawtooth, one of many vintage pieces he offers.

Funny How Time Slips Away

The shirt’s from Floatie Hock, who has a good thing going with her vintage wear (and great sims). This can be worn by a man or a woman (as most of her items, they look great on either sex). I wanted to find a big full skirt, ala Patsy Cline at the Grand Ol’ Opry, but nothing was turning up, so I ran over to Antonia Marat’s and found these cute rockabilly-style highwaist pants. Finally, the cowboy boots are from Cerberus Noel and appropriately decorated. No cowgirl would be seen dead on a horse on these but in front of an audience of music lovers, yes indeed!

I am a little stir crazy, a bit restless.

I decided to dress it up. I put on these sexy flowy pants from monica Outlander, a slinky top, just out from Sysy Chapman (who does these sexy little separates so well), a pretty necklace and earrings that get some glamour treatment from Quinlan Quimby and some killer heels from Viktoria Brandenburg.

But the story is really about the skin and the hair. First, the hair—from MrSigmund Fride, this hair is quite dramatic (intentionally so). I wanted big and I got big. And then the skin, from sachi Vixen. You know I don’t think sachi envisioned it this way but it works. The subtle make up, almost glimmering under this big pile of hair, is perfect for this look. It’s already so over-the-top, the makeup doesn’t need to be so.

Summer Soiree

“In the dusk of the evening, he could see across the lake the twinkling of the lights from the gazebo rippling on the waves, and hear the laughter and murmur of relaxed voices, the susurring of frocks as ladies fluttered from one table to the next, the clink of ice in the gentlemen’s glasses. A loon cried across the lake. The band swung into upbeat.” (Imagined quote from some F. Scott Fitzgerald story.)

Summer Soiree

monica Outlander keeps putting out a steady stream of vibrant and quality content, never ceasing for holiday (as so many of my European friends) or even a bathroom break (which might sound silly, but I sometimes wonder about monica). This frock, one of four colors, arrives just in time for a summer soiree, one in the heart of the season when the heat still lingers past dusk. With its bare shoulders and low cut back, this dress might be structurally impossible in real life, but perfect in SL where a show of skin is de rigueur.

Summer Soiree

What a beautiful skin it is, too. From Hart Larsson’s newest line, this pale painterly beauty gives any woman a quality of sophisticated beauty, from its cat eyeliner to the subtle beauty mark near the eye to the matte and sumptious lips. AvaGardner Kungler’s beautiful orchid necklace, with its super-real tints of blue shell, is a perfect accompaniment—ocean and sky and blossom all in one piece.

Alien Chic

What do you call something that is chic and bright with latex and cobbled leather but is not anything you think you could ever wear anywhere and be entirely appropriate? Perhaps on another planet this outfit will work. It’s clearly chic, well-designed, bright and funky.

Alien Chic

I figure anything designed by Eshi Otawara will translate to other planets and other worlds—we just need to get there. When I go, I will be sure to wear this outfit with its bright pink plumage, pagoda shaped shoulder pads, cowl neck and zipper running along and around the body, attaching vinyl to leather.

Alien Chic

The “hair,” an interesting headpiece which covers the eyes (because I really don’t need to see—I need to be seen) echoes the feathers in the shoulders, fantastic jeweled belt and cute little purse.

Count My Blessings

Count My Blessings

SL is its own kind of holiday (referenced because the above wonderful song is a reggae-inspired tune). On holiday you end up doing things you wouldn’t normally do, like having a woman cornrow your hair (I did once on holiday—it was a pain to get out). Here, you can try on bikinis you might not be able to wear in RL or wear a hair color you wouldn’t dare to don.

In fact, I am wearing this itsy bitsy teeny weeny from Dick Wiesel, a gift from him after I accidentally sent a note to him pointing out a flaw in a swimsuit—the problem was he didn’t make the swimsuit—another creator did, which I realized AFTER I dropped the note on him. He was so gracious and funny about it and honestly, his work was flawless, so I had to show it. This is part of set of two bikinis—this being the sunrise to the other’s sunset. How hard can a bikini be, you ask? After all, it’s just two little pieces. Well it’s darn hard because it’s so small. In it you have to show all manner of skillful moves, like shadows and wrinkles, and you have to make sure the edges are clean and it stretches just right over the body. Dick’s bikini is fantastic.

Count My Blessings

I show it with blossoms—one from Yura Gazov in this funky pink hair with bangs that is so apt for this uninhibited style of vacationing. (On holiday you say, “I always wanted pink hair—what the heck.”) Sazae Yoshikawa’s little blossom at the wrist just adds to the whole holiday feeling.

Count My Blessings

Finally, these pretty little sandals are from Oct Oakleaf. Oct has built a versatile system into these sandals of nail polishes and tattoos which can be purchased separately. So if you want pretty prim toes in a flat sandal, get the sandals. If you want to further enhance them with decorated polishes, buy the polishes and load them into the HUD. (The business of which seems complicated at first but is incredibly easy.) If you want tattoos (which show in 2.0, and I admit I didn’t show them here), do the same—purchase and load. I love the style of the sandals, the pretty anklets and the different toenail stylings. Oct gives us a whole lot of summer fun in one little sandal.

Count My Blessings

And I’ve got somewhere to dress for,
And I’ve got no need to stress for
And so I’ll always put my best forth
And count my blessings

This post is dedicated to my wonderful friend, Jaynine Scarborough. In SL, especially among European residents, she is quite a popular musician. Jaynine recently recorded this song for distribution. In it, you can hear her beautiful voice, her amazing facility with language, and her spirit, which is so strong it comes through digital bits and hits you in the solar plexus.

I had the privilege to meet Jaynine and Lunata Lupino when I visited Berlin two years ago. It is an experience I will never forget, sitting in the back bar of a gallery (very “Beat” aesthetic, built in the 50s and never changed), talking about the day the Wall came down and various other issues. It was an amazing evening for me and I can’t thank Jaynine and Lunata enough. (By the way, Lunata has the most infectious laugh one has ever heard…)

I realize this dress is almost more Argentinian tango than Venezuelan salsa but its elegance matches the sophistication of Jaynine’s singing. This beautiful dress by Squinternet Larnia is elegance defined. From the elegant lace textures (going around to a sexy lace back), tiered skirt going down from a leg slit to the thigh and the strategically placed roses, it is for the woman who wants to make an entrance without being ostentatious. The skirt is especially wonderful, built as it is and so well adapted to the avatar. It creates a beautiful, sexy silhouette.

The chignon is cleverly made with matching roses and is included with the dress (to be worn with a hair base skin). Shoes were also included, but I opted to show a pair of stilettos from BG Planer just to spread the love around. I show jewelry from Squinternet as well. She has a shop that is overwhelming in the amount and quality of content. It is almost too much candy.

And view the lovely skin from Tricky Boucher. The hair base is just gorgeous, the makeup smooth and glowing, the proportions of the face elegantly beautiful.

Brick House

She’s a brick—-house
Mighty mighty, just lettin’ it all hang out
She’s a brick—-house
The lady’s stacked and that’s a fact,
ain’t holding nothing back.

~ Brick House by the Commodores

Brick House

One of the fantasies of SL is being drop dead sexy. But what IS sexy. Some think it’s waif thin, some think it’s emo, some think it’s being model-like (tall, thin and strangely proportioned). Well I think it’s being “mighty mighty.” It’s easy to do in this amazingly-built corset from Khai Sinister. Between the sculpties on top and bottom (shaping the body) and the system pieces in the middle, this corset visually cinches the body in as a good corset should. I am particularly amazed at the details shown including the well-drawn buckles, the ribbon bows and the way the textures on the sculpties match seamlessly with the body. (I will note that I changed my shape for this. The sliders all got upped a bit.)

Brick House

I am wearing Tuli Asturias’ new skin for the Gina series from The Dressing Room, which completes this smokin’ look. Tuli has come upon a clever idea here—sell the collection one by one to keep them coming back. The skins are beautiful and such a great deal—how can you beat 65L for something that looks THIS good? In the end, if she releases 10 of them a whole fat pack will be only 650L! It’s a no-brainer—go get the skins!
