Fierce (Sorta)

I had intended to do a really fierce Halloween look, something otherworldly and spooky and amazing… and then Callie brought the Halloween Kittycats over and my ferocity was  ruined.

My fierce look starts with this intricate ensemble from Cutea Benelli, the goddess of imagination and creativity. Assembled from bones and a curiously “data-textured” fabric, this bat-like fabrication is one of the many weird dreams pulled from Cutea’s subconscious. What is particularly delightful about this piece is the external spine in back and the eruption of bones in the skirt. It’s ghoulish and scary and perfectly ferocious.

What makes it even more ferocious is this seasonal skin from Sissy Pessoa, a silver version with blood red lips that comes with fang and dripping blood add-ons (which I am glad she made as makeup because I just don’t enjoy wearing blood on my face). My eyes are piercing red ones from Ikon Innovia, who made them for the RP set. They are perfect for this look.

Well as always, it comes back to the cats—the cute little Kittycats. Rezzed on each side of me they made perfect little guards, like little feline sentinels. That was pretty scary, especially since they have fangs and those widow’s peaks on their faces and eerie looking eyes. But then Callie told me to click and interact, choosing fly. Next thing I knew I was on a broom with one of the little kittens staring adoringly at me. Gosh darn it. I went from fierce to wanting to cuddle the little guy (which I did with the “interact” command). Then I was tossing a ball at him and my glaring red eyes were twinkling and I was talking baby talk. *sigh*

Sweet Love

Anita was born in 1987 and her mom named her after Anita Baker, who sang the song “Sweet Love,” which Anita’s mom and dad danced to the first night they met. Now Anita is all grown up (and blesses fate that her mom didn’t hear Whitney that first night).

Her mother didn’t only give her a beautiful name but also a gorgeous face and tremendous sense of style. Anita loves going out dancing, hoping she will meet a man like her daddy, who served in Iraq in 1992 and more recently 2003-2007, when he was killed in duty. He was a strong man, a disciplined man and a loving man, and Anita hopes she will find a man as good as he was.

Anita makes sure she is dressed to the nines, showing off all her best assets. This dress from Nicky Ree shows Anita’s best curves with its low cut top and salsa skirt cut up the leg. The bright modern colors express her joy in life, and the ruffles look great when dancing. Anita loves quality and Nicky serves it up in loads. (And she got it on sale at Nicky Ree’s, where there is a sale going on right now through November 3, which makes it extra special!) Her shoes are the latest from Pixieplumb Flanagan with a color-changing top, soles and hardware and a sexy wrap-around look.

Her natural makeup (and skin) are courtesy of Meghindo Romano. With its great coloring, sensual and sexy elements, and truly African-American facial features, it’s a gorgeous look for Anita. Her hair, piled high in beautiful waves, is courtesy of Queue Marlowe, who recently came out with another set of hair, all named after trigonometric functions. As always, Queue’s gorgeous curls frame the face and make this Anita as beautiful as her mother was 25 years ago when she met the man of her dreams.

Tavi, Grown Up

Last year I did an homage to Tavi Gevinson, the now 15 year old blogger from Oak Park, Illinois, who goes to high school, dresses up like many girls, and hangs out with Anna Wintour at fashion shows. I had put together this outfit, wondering what I might say about it but realizing that it might be something she would wear when she got a little older.

As a young adult (in my imagination), Tavi has contacts, an older face, and a more sophisticated style (not so much piled up) in my mind but lots of Tavi still shows through. First the dress from Sonatta Morales, a vintage beauty with horizontal stripes. Sonatta is one of SL’s premier vintage gown makers, and this stunner is typical of her quality. The bodice is exquisitely rendered from the gathered top to the satin strips along the decollatage to the buttons on the sleeves. It’s this kind of couture detail that would appeal to a young lady like Tavi.

What makes this look so Tavi is this skin from Gala Phoenix, a new release in her line called “The Visitor,” which has varying ranges of makeup, from fantastic to simply ethereal. I loved the yellowy green lips and eye makeup in this skin. However, she includes eyebrows and lip options so green lips could go to pink with one simple addition. And because she includes eyebrows, you can choose a more “alien” eyebrowless look or tattoo on one of three color options.

It’s Raining…

Every morning I have gotten up lately (and that’s at 4 am every day), it’s been raining and dark and chilly. But I don’t care! Dress warmly enough and carry an umbrella, I say. That’s why I donned a sweater from Nyte Caligari over a tank top with jeans from Rob Moonites.

Keeping my feet comfy cozy are boots from Gospel Voom… MESH! Yes, because I wanted to put on Gos’ shiny vinyl wellingtons, I experienced mesh. I put my virtual toesies into these boots and experienced the joy of bending my ankle and seeing the boot go with it. Gos has just released some new texture packs as well that allow you to not only have colored boots but textured boots. They can be plugged in the same way his textures from his Docs work. (I personally like the white duckies on a blue background.)

I put on a skin from moon Meiyo for this rainy day look. The smoky makeup, combined with Ikon Innovia’s dark brown eyes, gives this look a sort of moodiness without looking down. My hair is a brand new one from Mina Nakamura with this totally cute slouchy hat. She has made it so it has a texture changer so if red fair isle is not your desire, there are 11 others to choose from.

What’s got this redhead walkin’ today? A great new outfit from Ramses Meredith. The god of men’s skins (check out his boys—smokin’) also makes clothing for men and women, and this sexy ensemble is one of his offerings. With a fur coat (made of “faux fur”—no breedables were hurt in the assembly of this piece), stitched up leather pants and strap-wrapped boots (with a hand hud that resizes on X, Y, and Z coordinates), this ensemble is for the wickedest redhead.

My wicked red hair comes courtesy of Emilie Carter with spikes and cowl licks in all the right places. My smokey-eyed skin is one of Silent Alchemi’s beauties with luscious red lips and sophisticated features. Piercing blue eyes jump out at you, made gorgeous by Ikon Innovia. Finally, Matchbook Monday made these great earrings to go with her Requiem necklace.

I found out about a hilarious viral YouTube thing that I feel inclined to share simply because everyone needs a little Bad Lip Reading. The creator learned to read lips when his mom became deaf and has since used his talents to read the lips of musicians and even better—politicians. This is what HE sees when he reads lips.

Cock Your Hat

Put on a hat, give it a tilt, and suddenly you have a little more attitude. I can’t help but have a little attitude too because I am wearing some great stuff. Start with this top from Salah Axel. With a translucent layer over a very simple bra, this top has the details that make it more than a texture that’s marked as transparent. First there are the pulls and wrinkles at the seams and the stretch around the arms where the gaps show.

I wear with some great little knickers from Drinkinstein Sorbet, available at Collabor88. I love the color name and love the details—the yoke in back, the wrinkles, the little sculpty cuffs. They look great with my new shoes from Angelic Lefevre, who gives you a little hud with them to control the sole color and change the socks to over 20 different colors and textures. I, of course, chose argyle, ‘cuz I have attitude.

The hat giving me all this ‘tude comes with a hair from chiaki Xue. She collaborated with mappy Handrick on a number of pieces using his hats with her hair underneath. This little redheaded bun is ideal for this look. My skin is another wondrous new pieces by Gala Phoenix. She has created a new delicate set with her typical gorgeous features—the collarbone, the beautiful lips, the gorgeous details—freckles, wrinkles and shoulder blades. And oh, those eyebrows!

Autumn

I am slowly moving from summer to winter through the beautiful colors of fall and coming to grips with what’s coming up.

I know I have flogged the autumn theme to death but I really love fall. I love the colors, the fact that you can layer on more clothes, that you sleep so deeply in the cool air. I can pull out a nice turtleneck sweater, like this one from Jamie Holmer, and wear it! This sweater is great too because the hem is not a big poofy, frumpy piece but a shaped hem around the hips with great use of shadows and light to emphasize the shape. I really hate those frumpy sculpty sweater bottoms.

My skirt is a cutie from Kyon Torok, who has several cute pieces for low prices. And I popped a little extra color in with a bright yellow scarf from hiwinyu Fazuku and tights from Yurin Wirefly. Finally, I don some old but STILL amazing boots from Fallingwater Cellardoor. All prim (no sculpties)!

I am wearing Mallory Cowen’s absolutely gorgeous new skin, Lovisa. This is a dicey skin because it could easily look very young on the wrong shape (which is no different than how redheads are in RL—with pale skin and no makeup and a round face, a young look is inevitable). Mallory generously gives us very minimal makeup skins in this set and we are allowed to dress up as we please. That’s why I wore one of her eyeliners to push this skin over the legal age.

I top it all off with one of Truth Hawks’ newest hairs, and I have to say that his true forte is with these long wavy styles. I put this on and knew this was going to be one of my favorite styles. OK, yeah, I admit it. My SL fantasy includes having long wavy red hair just like this. Gorgeous!

At the coffeehouse I frequent, I often see a pretty girl curled up in the corner with her laptop perched on her knees. She is always raptly involved in whatever it is she’s doing—blogging, writing her memoirs, chatting on IMVU :P

She’s a pretty young thing into a sort of free flowing pretty look—scarves tied around her waist over flowered skirts and blousy tops that show off her young toned tan arms. This is a pretty good representation of her. First I show Zaara Kohime’s newest blouse, rendered in Zaara’s distinctively wonderful textures with her amazingly ingenious assemblage. She combines a string-tied ruffled collar on top with a pretty ruffled hem on the bottom for this pretty piece.

I combine it with a funky boho skirt from Gocha Merlin over shoes from Trill Zapatero. If you look closely, you will see I wear feetsies with these. Taking advantage of multiple attachment points, I can combine Siddean Munro’s cute feet with these sandals and make a great look.

My skin is a delicate lovely face from Monicuzza Babenco with a knowing sexy smile. My hair is a gorgeous long one with little braids casually plaited in to create that sort of casual hippy look that suits a girl like Rachel.

October Fest

The fall colors have peaked in my area, which means the brightest trees are now dropping their leaves and the village is shoveling them into humongous piles in the middle of the street early in the morning. Leaves get piled up like snow here—huge soft piles of orange and yellow and red and brown–and they come and take it all away.

There is something so glorious about this change of season despite the fact that I am not looking forward to winter. It’s nature’s final glorious gasp before settling down for a long sleep. That’s why this pretty ensemble is so apt—it’s an homage to October and perfect for this transitional weather. I start with a soft comfy cowl-neck sweater from Betty Doyle, topping one of Leezu Baxter’s newest skirts with tweedy texture and coordinating accents, and a flirty fun sculpty ruffle. Long socks from Maria Gherardi (get the pack—very versatile) and cute boots from Ivanka Akina round out the look.

Of course, my look is about the details. My hair is a darling new ‘do from chiaki Xue, a take on Emma Watson’s pixie cut. I love this look—carefree, lively, feminine. If I could carry off a pixie in RL, I totally would (though it would mean frequent hair cuts.. hmm). My skin is one of Gala Phoenix’s fall shades with lovely warm coloring. Glasses are from MandyMandy McMillan. I don’t need to tell you twice, however, how versatile they are with color-changing frame and lenses. And where am I going with my suitcase? Well, nowhere really but it sure looks cute, especially since it’s a bargain find from Taki Lowey.
