Shake it, shake it, shake it, shake it like a dynamite

~ “Dynamite” by Kraak and Smaak

Dynamite

Sometimes I want to go out and just feel like I am a tall stick of dynamite—hot, sizzling, with the potential for something explosive. Wearing red does it for me, especially a great red dress like this special edition from LeeZu Baxter, which features a lot of the great details LeeZu is known for—great textures mixed with ingenious and stylish prim work. Things I noticed while wearing it: prims melted into system pieces organically, prim ruffles were square and hollowed with flexi, sculpties were used to create a shapely decollatage with ruffles. With its eensy little ruffled skirt and exposed shoulder, this dress is cute and sophisticated and sexy all at once.

Dynamite

A dynamite look needs a dynamite face and Tricky Boucher’s newest skin, with its glossy cherry pop lips and glittering silver makeup charges this look with a thousand tons of power. Sexy laced heels from Claire Messenger give my long legs a blast of color and sexyiness with their great color-changing nails and skin. Sexy eyes from Ikon Innovia peek out from under curled bangs on the thick black hair from chiaki Xue, giving the entire look a final pop.

Dynamite

Baby pop, get on top, do it all night
Hubba hubba, cherry pop it like a dynamite!

Timeless

You can take no credit for beauty at sixteen.  But if you are beautiful at sixty, it will be your soul’s own doing.  ~ Marie Stopes

Timeless

They say 30 is the new 20, 40 is the new 30, etc. Certainly women are retaining a vitality for much longer and women RL Harper’s own age are drop dead (even moreso than younger women, I have been told). Truth is, beauty doesn’t know an age. An older woman can pull off a sophisticated look that a younger girl could never carry off. Take this top from sable99 Magic’s dress paired with a high-waisted skirt from Dakota Buck. Black and white, echoed in the black bag from Renee Harvy and toe-cap pumps from Onyx LeShelle and simple pearls from Tiffy Vella knotted at the neck, and you have the sort of elegance that only comes from years of experience.

Timeless

The look is pulled together with a short cut from chiaki Xue and this gorgeous hand-drawn skin from Sissy Pessoa. Sissy is taking a risk here, putting out a women’s skin for a more mature look—isn’t youth what we all seek? Well if you want to be taken seriously or want to represent the “real you,” maybe not. Notice how well Sissy adds wrinkles to the skin, the slightly drooping eyes, the lines from a lot of smiling (and a little worrying too) working their way from the eyes, across the bridge of the nose, and around the mouth. Sissy shows us that, indeed, beauty can be timeless.

She’s a librarian. She found SL because she read about it in a magazine about library science. When she got there, she not only found wonderful library resources, but also a whole way of imagining a secret life that leapt off the page. Now I am not suggesting librarians don’t have such a secret life—it exists quite abundantly in libraries—in many romance novels, in academic texts, in histories and photographs, in reference books and databases. It’s all there but when she found she opened the book, it was a discussion between her and the author and nothing interactive happened. So SL became a place to bring out the discussion and explore her ideas and for once, embody her secret life. She created an alt, named her “Peaches,” cloaked her identity, and leapt in….

Anonymous

I think many people know this story very well. They come into SL for professional reasons and stay in SL for personal reasons. Ever want to be cinched up tight in a corset and wantonly walk around, collar on your neck, fishnets wrapped around your long legs, stiletto heels putting little dents in the floor, anonymously? Khurt knows the your need for corsets. In his store, every outfit starts with the prim corset and works its way through different themes. I wear here  corset with a subtle skull motif, tight little leather booty shorts, a cropped sweater and fishnets. Khurt offers steampunk, Victorian, romantic, goth—whatever your heart desires—all held tight with a prim corset that can be sized independently on the X, Y or Z axis.

She covers her eyes with a short wavy cut from Chiaki Xue (really meant for boys but works so well here). Her skin is aida Ewing’s newest (out sometime today) because, frankly, an anonymous alt should look as good as the main avatar, especially, when she’s out and about, living a second life.

P.S. If you EVER read down this far and read this on Sunday afternoon, Dahlia Lithwick, one of my favoritist writers, is going to be in SL AGAIN. (I just find it so wonderful that she embodies herself here—NOT anonymously.) If you would like to join in the discussion either via the web or in SL, you can either go to their webpage at Virtually Speaking Sundays or tp over to the sim and see Dahlia in real live pixels. She knows all the juicy bits about the Supreme Court!

Hidden Under the Christmas Tree

Hidden Under the Christmas Tree

Once upon a time there was a pretty little wind-up doll. She found herself under the Christmas Tree after St. Nick had left her there by accident. She was all dressed up and ready to be played with by a good little girl or boy but she wasn’t even certain if she was left at a house with children.

Hidden Under the Christmas Tree

She was so disappointed. She was wearing the most delightful dress from Beaunciea Silvercloud, a wonderful creation of mixed curlicues and lace puffery with a funky striped bodice. Her striped hat had a merry band of glittering black and red and she was sporting a key that turned and played music. (Really—it plays music!) She had darling little boots from Cerberus Noel that included big bows and color change for the contrast color (that the elf back at the North Pole had set to black to match the colors of the dress).

Hidden Under the Christmas Tree

Her hair from Kavar Cleanslate was combed and colored just right, with bangs to frame her face. And her face! Oh she was so proud of her lovely face—she was wearing aida Ewing’s newest skin, Linn, with its luscious red lips and gorgeous eye makeup. She thought her porcelain skin suited her delicacy and loved how fresh and new it looked. Fresh and clean and untouched.. untouched by some kid’s grubby hands. She thought about it for a moment and burrowed under the gifts, hoping no child lived in this house—just a lady who could put her on a shelf and admire her.

Vavoom in the Room

The pictures were done two days ago. The notes were complete yesterday. I had a dental appointment and I went to give blood. And laundry. And work. Yet here it sat, this blog entry, stuck because I didn’t have a title! I was absolutely miserable. I really consider getting my blog done on a timely basis a major obligation. So thank you, Ms. CC Creegan, for the terrific title, which pulled me out of procrastination.

Vavoom in the Room

And it’s so important because I have to show you Dolce Blackflag’s farewell piece for Pixel Dolls, this gorgeous mesh dress. Now Dolce has unlocked the secret others wish to know… she has made rigged mesh that works without sizing—mostly. I tried it on a larger shape and the area between the legs definitely dipped in but it didn’t break. She did this by not wrapping the mesh around the hips and by cleverly melding the print in the system piece with the mesh. It’s quite a bit of engineering and makes me truly sad she is closing Pixel Dolls because she clearly has a handle on mesh. I also show both versions—the bolero with the mini and the pencil skirt. I personally prefer the pencil skirt.

Vavoom in the Room

My painterly skin is from thebodyco, who has put several sets of the skins up for sale at the Warehouse sale, which is a good thing because at the reduced price I am willing to indulge. My sexy tousled hair is from Queue Marlow, who somehow conveys the texture of silky careful hair in her styles. My chic handbag, by the way, is a designer piece from the meshman himself, Maxwell Graf.

Teacher’s Pet

Teacher’s pet (pa dum pa dum pa dum)
I wanna be teacher’s pet (pa dum pa dum)
I wanna be huddled and cuddled as close to you as I can get
(That’s the lesson we’re guessin’ you’re best in)

~ “Teacher’s Pet” by Doris Day

Teacher's Pet

Everyone has had a time when they had a crush on a teacher.. has to be. Whether it’s Miss Humphries in first grade because she’s so nice or Mr. Lawrence, your handsome gym teacher in fourth grade, who makes you giggle and feel funny inside, or even in high school, Mr. Conover, your history teacher, who is endearingly nerdy with his messy white hair and chalk on his pants and earnestness about the Gettysburg Address. Then you grow up and meet someone who teachers and wanting to be Teacher’s Pet takes on new meaning….

I surmise that to get teacher’s attention, I need to wear plaid in a cute and sexy way. This plaid is mesh—a darling new dress from sachi Vixen, who has been doing mesh for quite a while now—first in Blue Mars and now in SL. I have not been the biggest fan of mesh—I was simply not overwhelmed by it or the mesh viewers. The new Firestorm mesh viewer is almost changing my opinion as I find it infinitely more stable than before (though I still suffer from a pesky memory leak that sometimes locks me up). And sachi’s use of plaid on this outfit also changes my mind. For once mesh proves its worth as I can see my twists and turns distorting the mesh in a much more “real” manner than system pieces or sculpty. Combined with sexy thigh high socks and shoes from Onyx LeShelle, this is a smexy combo.

Teacher's Pet

I wear Aranel Ah’s eensy thin black belt to divvy things up. Generally an accessory doesn’t get as much column space in my blog but I want to remark on Aranel’s customer service. When I tried to purchase the belt on Marketplace last night, my payment was returned with an error message. No big deal—I went straight to the mainstore and found what I needed. This morning I received a note from Aranel apologizing for the Marketplace muck-up with an assurance that she had no control over the problem but had contacted LL to straighten things out. Now, frankly, she didn’t HAVE to do that. I know Marketplace is sometimes unreliable—they are making changes behind the scenes that are bound to cause problems. However, Aranel’s proactive communication reflected very positively on her business and her attitude.

Stardust

Stardust

Beside a garden wall
When stars are bright
You are in my arms
The nightingale tells his fairy tale
of paradise where roses grew

Stardust

There is a little fantasy that runs through SL, an old time movie fantasy about elegant nightclubs where people dance to old standards, where the women all wear magnificent gowns and the men are always tuxedo’d and the air is electric with intrigues and romance. I have yet to see a movie or read a book with such a theme but the whole thing “makes sense.” It has a cultural meaning that seems to reach out to everyone who comes into SL of a certain age or higher.

This dress would be ideal for such an evening, where “Stardust” would be on the playlist, along with many other standards. From IndigoBlue Dagostino, this elegant and sparkling gown would suit the Franks and Phats of SL. She has cleverly bypassed the tendency to make a monochromatic gown (a tendency I see so frequently in SL when creators want to easily just recolor) to provide a rhinestone-studded neck and waistline which slides over the back to a sexy dip with a sculpty draped piece (which is what makes this gown most unique). This dress comes with a fur coat and center gem, which I decided to forgo.

Stardust

My skin is one of Tricky Boucher’s latest, a breathtaking beauty with the kind of sophisticated and elegant shading that does not compete with a dress like this but compliments, setting this beauty’s face aglow. My updo, with tendrils floating out as would be for an elegant lady (not shellacked and overdone), is from Truth Hawks, who includes hairbases with this set. My eyes are hazel beauties from Ikon Innovia, and my jewelry displays TJake Kearny’s skill with diamonds. I didn’t want to be dripping with diamonds—too much is simply… too much.
