Don’t You

Don't You

Don’t you, wanna be somewhere else
oh
Don’t you, don’t you wanna be somewhere else

~ “Don’t You” by El May (free download of the song at the link)

Don't You

To be honest, there is nowhere I would rather be than where I am right now. Tomorrow, however, it’s supposed to snow 7 inches, so I would much rather be in the Keys with a friend who keeps sending me photos of the warm weather. Hmpf! If I *were* going there, I know I would need something chic and seasonal, and this outfit might do it. First start with a slinky top from Nena Janus, add a darling skirt from Drinkenstein Sorbet (with its beautiful and almost bohemian Japanese crane print) and you’re set to go somewhere else.

Don't You

Gala Phoenix has come out with yet another set of skins, this one a little more sultry and chic. It pairs perfectly with Ikon Innovia’s eyes and this sassy new hair from Chiaki Xue. Slip on some wedge boots from Onyx LeShelle (mesh, dontcha know), sling a chic soft bag over your shoulder, also from Onxy, and dress it up with cute jewelry from Polyester Partridge and you have a trip in the making.

Don't You

You are helped, you are held, by a great big hand
of the sun, you are loved, you are loved.

Bachelorette Pad

Bachelorette Pad

The existence of parcels in SL sometimes seems like the existence of a space where someone can be alone to rez their prims or dress themselves or just be in a place where she can decorate just as she likes with no one to fuss about it. I have my own bachelorette pad in SL, up high on my sim, where I rarely have people visit (mostly because it’s a mess). It’s where I do my photos and sort my inventory and rez my packages. The only rule about my space is that things can at any moment change and that no one tells me to clean up after myself except myself.

Bachelorette Pad

The most recent Collabor88 gave me a great chance to decorate a little and make my space a little more cozy. With a great mesh furniture set from Cory Edo (check out the sofa, with 5 locations to sit and 9 poses for each sit), art from Callie Cline, and rug from Isla Gealach (from a whole set), a girl could redo her home for much less than 500. Consider it an IKEA for the pixel set if you must. (And everything is amazingly color coordinated!)

Bachelorette Pad

Also abundant are some great fashions. Start with this darling top and jeans from Callie, which include the little Japanese dolls from her wall hangings. The jeans have bright embroidered flowers on the pockets and the leg as well as the cuff, which you don’t see because I have my jeans tucked into Rob Moonites’ bold yellow rain boots. Cute earrings from Gyorgyna Larnia complete this bright look.

Finally, my beautiful namesake skin from Sachi Vixen allows me to adopt a casual look without loss of beauty and a simple ponytail from Kavar Cleanslate suits the entire mood—restful, solitary, peaceful.

Sweet Sour

Sweet Sour

Sour by the minute but you’re sweeter by the hour

~ Sweet Sour by Band of Skulls

Sweet Sour

I have a friend in SL for whom this song fits so perfectly. She comes on kind of intense, like a hard rock song, but once you know her, she is really sweet. She is pure intensity—she cleans her house like a demon, creates her art with knife-edge perfection, tosses out quotes from Kierkegaard as if they are tootsie rolls. But she is also as sweet as can be—she loves pink, dresses up in little girl clothes, peppers her speech with ♥s, and frets over her plants. So this little beauty is in honor of her.

I start with this terrific mesh modernist-inspired dress by LeeZu Baxter. I love the sweep of stripe over the dress and folds, the rippling skirt line, the great graphic colors. It’s a simple mesh—I look forward to seeing more from LeeZu in the future. I pair it with Gospel Voom’s criminally chic boots, which I set on all sorts of colors to match the graphic color blocks of the dress.

Sweet Sour

My skin, from Gala Phoenix, has the same qualities of my friend—a bit intense but really soft. The eyebrows are about the only ones in SL I could call faint and pretty. (It’s so hard to do lighter brows—I know!) My jewelry is from Matchbook Monday, who provides this set with color changing on the metals, so while the “wood” beads remain the same, you can switch up the look on the metals for different outfits. I love Matchbook’s textures and her sense of geometry, but mostly I love the mix of metals and wood and earthy tones she uses.

Come See About Me

Come See About Me

Tired of waiting on you
After all we’ve been through
If you want me still
I know I can do for you
Anything you want me to
Why don’t you come see about it?
Come see about me, baby
Come see about me

~ “Come See About Me” by the Tedeschi Trucks Band

Come See About Me

I’m doing this entry kind of backwards (well, close up first) because I want you to come see about me! Literally! Sachi Vixen has just come out with a new skin, and she has done me the honor of naming it after me. So if you jet over to Adam n Eve, you can literally, “come see about me.” Why do I like the skin? First, the brows and their great arch and beautiful line. Then the eye makeups, range from smoky to colorful and artistic. Look at those luscious lips. Num! And the body details are sexy (I looked at the whole thing and I have a great tush, lemme tell you).  I am so pleased to have this beauty bear my name, especially made by such a great lady.

Come See About Me

Perhaps this sexy little outfit from Vanexa Clip make you come see about me. Mix a little sweet and a little naughty and you get this—a leather jacket over a flowery minidress (that has a deeply cut back—I looked). I love the vibrant colors in the dress juxtaposed with the leather jacket.  Vanexa has a collection of decidedly “sexy” outfits, so don’t come looking for a frumpy flowered dress.

I gave this a wilder spin with curly locks from Queue Marlowe and buckled and tied boots from Paul Lapointe. I thought they matched the spirit of the song. (You have to listen—Susan Tedeschi and Daryl Trucks are AMAZING.)

Come See About Me

If you want me still
I know I can do for you
Anything you want me to
Why don’t you come see about it?
Come see about me, baby
Come see about me
Come see about me, baby

Air and Light

Air and Light

the great interests of man: air and light, the joy of
having a body, the voluptuousness of looking.
~ Mario Rossi
(stolen from “Selected Poems” by Wallace Stevens)

Air and Light

Give a man a little something to see, something dramatic and dark and mysterious and beautiful and what does he do? Well you might find out when you wear this dress from Sienia Trevellion. With it’s beautiful neckline and black gloves, it’s a classic look to emphasize the beauty of Mouse Mimistrobell’s jewelry, which makes sense. The two pieces were created in collaboration for the Ethiria – Painted Lady event, going on only til January 8, where jewelry and clothing designers hooked up to make some special things.

Air and Light

A dress and jewelry set this glamorous needs a beautiful skin, so of course, I went straight to my Aida Ewing folder. Aida’s skins, known for their sophistication and almost couture makeup, are perfect for this look. My hair, a recent revival piece from Autumn Hykova, matches this look perfectly.

Safar

Safar mein khud hi ghayal ho gaya hoon
Main apna rasta ro ke khada hoon

Mera ghar door hota ja raha hai
Mai peeche ki taraf chalta raha hoon

Meir manzil mere andar ho shayad
Jise ‘Khalid’ main bahar dhoota hoon

Safar

“Safar” means “journey,” and the song as sung by Kiran Ahluwalia, is lush and warming; her voice is agile and clear. This outfit reminded me of the song because of its combo of deep intense color with neutrals—kind of like spices used with yogurt. My sweater is a red cashmere flounced vest with beautiful textures—so evocative of the luxurious yarn it’s made from. Agnes Finney provides this treat to brighten our winter days using beautifully rendered sculpties.

I dallied over this outfit for a long time—matching accessories with care. My high- waisted pants are from Angelina Eizenberg, who just had a clearance sale (run over and it might still be on). Boots are beautifully tooled leather from Cerberus Noel (and the red are on sale for 50% off right now) and jewelry is from Maxi Gossamer and Matchbook Monday. My scarf comes from Afghanistan via Trill Zapatero.

Safar

My skin is a gorgeous beauty from Carina Larsen, who is providing the grid with some lusciously textured faces and bodies without all the over-the-top sparkles and effects. My hair comes complete with the tam and a HUD that changes textures. I swear I clicked through the darn thing for an hour to pull this outfit together. Mina Nakamura has struck the soul of bohemian rich girl with this hair piece.

Safar

I myself have wounded myself in the journey
I am myself an obstruction in my own path

My home is becoming more and more distant
I have been walking backwards

Perhaps my destination is inside me
While, Khalid, I am searching for it in the outside world

Resolved

Resolved

I read about a website about resolutions led by Rev. Chaz Howard, a chaplain at the University of Pennsylvania, which aims to lead “a public campaign to challenge people to make outwardly-focused resolutions to care for others, instead of inwardly-focused resolutions for self-improvement.” At Resolution ‘12, you can publicly state your resolution. Consider it your mission statement for 2012—what are you gonna do?

Resolved

Of course, one resolution I don’t need to worry about is continuing to look good in 2012—the great creators in SL make it easy for me. Consider this dress from Barbra Kungler, a beautifully patterned mini with gorgeous colors and a decidedly different approach to the short dress. With its square collar and long sleeves, this could almost double as a tunic, but I couldn’t resist tying it at the waist with a pretty belt from caran Juran showing some leg finished with sexy mesh shoes from Siddean Munro.

Resolved

A resolution I could adopt is using mesh a little more, which is made easier by the improved mesh-enabled viewers and the new things folks are doing with mesh. Take, for example, this simple necklace from Maxi Gossamer. Maxi, who has just opened her shop on Marketplace, is using mesh in a way that bypasses all the aggravations of rigged mesh—she is building jewelry in mesh. What does this mean for you? Maxi can show complex shapes without all the rendering issues inherent with prims or sculpties (the so-called abhorent “ARC”). She can integrate interesting textures right on to the shapes. I look forward to seeing more of her work in the future.

I wear a skin from moon meiyo with delicious make-up coloring and a lovely face, including nicely shaped brows and full luscious lips. My hair is one of Kavar Cleanslate’s newest offerings in his delicious new textures. I love how he has clipped the hair at the eye with strands sweeping away from the face. And I admit I am kind of stuck on this particular shade with its streaks and depth.

Resolved

“Take the time to discern your resolution. Don’t rush to post something because it’s the first thing that comes to mind. Make a resolution that is not too big – and doable. What is the little imprint you can make on the world?”
