I think I have said it before, but I am a huge fan of Crunchyroll.com, which was recommended to me for my iPad by my friend, Whump. There is something so enveloping about a good Korean TV show—it is a perfect escape. You’re separated from all the burdens of shared history and culture. You can just sit back and watch in fascination as a servant in a pretend monarchy captivates an unwitting prince or a barista comes unto her own with her boss’ support—all in cute Asian fashions. The stories are charming, unsexualized, and burdened only by struggles for class position and status. It’s adult Cinderella.

In one very popular show, a frumpy government worker gets transformed from an office girl to a party princess. Monica Outlander’s jade satin dress is a perfect piece for her—girlish with its puffy skirt and lace underskirt, yet sophisticated with its rich material and one shoulder wrap-around bodice. Monica has really hit the sweet spot for the texture of the material and the design of the dress—not too shiny nor flat.

Our frumpy girl would, of course, stumble around in the sexy high heels from Claire Messenger and Nuria Augapfel but she would soon enough right herself, stunning her intended prince with her beautiful heretofore unseen legs and beautiful feet (complete with perfect pedicure and polish, of course).

Her jewelry would have to be something stunning, to frame her face, and this absolutely exquisite set from AvaGardner Kungler, would fit the bill. With gilt metalwork and a gorgeous working of semiprecious stones, Ava tells a story of a beautiful bird, perhaps the Firebird from Russian fairy tales. It’s an ideal statement piece for a naive young woman grown up to a glamorous princess.

  1. I just love this post Harper! I am also a huge fan of Korean TV shows. The women are always so stylish. In addition to crunchyroll.com (which was my go to spot for anime), I would suggest you try dramafever.com or viki.com. Both sites offer shows from Korea. Many of which are currently airing in Korea. Dramafever has better options over Viki in terms of K-dramas. But Viki has shows from all over the world including Russia, Brazil, etc.
