Happiness in life is not just celebrating the big moments but in finding joy in the smallest gifts….
Welcome to my mega-entry about the Finding FabFree Fifth Anniversary Hunt. I have tried to jam pack as much Finding FabFree in this blog as humanly possible without losing my mind, constrained as I am by my graphics card and the new Firestorm and my unbearable inventory.
Let me explain first that while I am not always the biggest hunter or freebie grabber, I am a huge supporter of FabFree and Renee Lowenhart’s efforts with the group. Started by Cherlindrea Lamont, the group was taken over by Renee Lowenhart several years ago and she has built the Fabulously Free in SL group up to well over 25,000 members with a blog that gets about 8000 hits a day (I peeked at the stats once when I was given posting rights—I nearly died). In celebration of five years of existence on the grid, Renee organized a hunt of 131 participants, each giving away the best in gifts to group members. And because everyone loves FabFree and Renee, the gifts are darn good!
You can be living in the lap of luxury with this great two-level modern skybox from Cherelle Capra. I was able to landscape my yard with autumn trees and a bench from 2WAT Michigan. The bench comes with a dozen poses for my ennui and angst while I open even more gifts from the hunt.
One of the best gifts was this darling dress from Bela Tolsen. I took it out and went, “FREE? No way!” It’s mesh goodness with a chic print. Then I opened the package from Tash Porthos and gasped. She gives FOUR pairs of mesh pumps in different colors. Four! It’s more like a bonanza than a gift!
Then there was this patio set from Bonadea Avedon. With two bottles of wine and two chairs, it’s perfect for sharing a few drinks with a pal and keeping out of the windlight sun (causes wrinkles).
Heather Beebe made a set of skins for this hunt that have drawn-in piercings and shimmery makeup in a variety of tones for everyone. And Jon Ree gives you another awesome multi-gift with three sets of earrings in different colors, a pair of which I show.
There is the abundance of furniture given, like this sofa from Tattoodiva Jules with its loungy animation and great coffee table. RFB Morpork gives you this beautiful dress with colors shimmering and fading through it, a quality piece that would cost you hundred normally. And again, you see another pair of those fantastic shoes from Tash Porthos.
Kira Paderborn, one of the most generous skin makers in SL, offers this vibrantly made up skin in the hunt with freckles and without. And Chiana Meredith gives you this shaggy cut with a HUD that allows you to change to four different tones—black, brunette, red or blonde. The gift also has a men’s hair so bring your male friend or avatar along to grab the gift.
If you are feeling kind of animal, pop on the neko ears from Callie Cline, plop a KittyCat on your shoulder and hug this darling hedgehog from Aiko Ying. And plop your tired butt down on this great little sofa from Bethesa Hancroft that has poses for two avatars and solo lounges plus a nice little side table with tea.
I slipped on this lacy mini from Devil Demone and put on cute purple ankle boots from Renee Harvy, who always gives a lot to FabFree and other endeavors with her free or inexpensive creations.
Finally this great skin from SophiaCarolina Ohmai with its funky lipstick would be great for your other-creature creations. And Tabata Jewell gives the perfect hair to compliment Callie’s ears—white with light blue streaks—enough to make a pretty neko to match a sweet KittyCat.
I want to make a quick note that I have complimented all these views with Ikon Innovia’s eyes, and two are of his newest available with kaleidoscopic fractals and ingeniously colored and lit by Ikon. They are not in the hunt but Ikon does have his group gifts out this weekend featuring this fractal design. Get them now!
In closing, I can not emphasize enough how much work Renee and her crew put into this endeavor. Of any organizer in SL, she is the most dedicated, the most professional, the most kind-hearted and the most organized. Each and every designer who announces in FabFree is vetted for their legitimacy as a creator, for the originality and quality of their work, and for their generosity, and sometimes Renee has to review 50 applications in a couple days to keep up with the applications.
Renee and her moderators keep an eye on the group chat, the announcements, the blog, and the general spirit of the group. Every day Renee is faced with one or another executive decision, from members who are asking questions to designers who need assistance to bloggers who need direction about what to blog while she herself is seeking out gifts to show and blogging them. And she does this all while working full-time and taking care of family members in RL. And she doesn’t make a single penny of this.
This five-year anniversary is really a tribute to Renee’s leadership skills and the wonderful and amazing service of her assistants, moderators, bloggers and organizers. It’s a huge contribution to the SL community. Thank you.
Congratulations, Fab Free! Here’s to five more!
