“In olden days a glimpse of stocking was looked on as something shocking. But now, God knows, anything goes.” ~ Cole Porter, “Anything Goes”
When I first joined SL, I saw so many female avatars in what I would call “slut clothes,” it seemed to be the visual lingua franca of SL. I was a bit put off. It wasn’t prudishness; I am not a prude. But it was a distaste for the tawdry or tacky. I was determined to bring elegance to my SL. Now with the explosion of mesh breasts and the proliferation of what is so suitably called “whore couture,” it’s hard to miss. At first I rejected it. I wasn’t comfortable seeing the female form reduced to sexual essentialism—her tits, her ass, her availability. It seems like anything goes. Being a little dolly with big boobies and wide hips and an oversized pout doesn’t move me.
I wanted to take the look and idea farther, so I got the mesh boobs—these are Lush because I prefer the shape. I fit them to my avatar so they didn’t look outrageous. (Being a big-chested woman is not foreign to me. Being a cartoon is.) I wore Ivy Burner’s things because she really knows how to do a mini skirt and finds just the edge where it goes from sexy to stupid. This, for example, is her offering for the Whore Couture fair—a separate top and mesh skirt so you can mix and match. And the top comes with appliers for Tango, Lush and a couple other brands. Ivy does incredibly good textures with a shapely ass in her skirt, wrinkles pulling where the clothes should, edges that are in-line and in the right place.
Of course, good footwear is essential to a sexy look. The big news in today’s blog are these boots from a new designer. Syntella Rhapsody has been working on her line of footwear for a bit. All mesh, they are built from the ground up by Syntella herself—no templates. So the mesh is hers, the textures are hers, and the HUD is hers. I was pretty surprised to see such a developed look on a new piece. I love the texture with the subtle rose imprint, the color change on the heels (I left them red), the little tie at the top. These boots are sex on a stick from top to bottom. I noticed she includes curviness where other boots don’t always have them—especially from a front view—which made me look curvier, and sexier, overall. Syntella is still ironing out some marketing things—she is aiming to open a new store front soon—but take the current slurl I provide to her store and treat yourself to some really smokin’ hot footwear.
Tricky Boucher is a featured designer at Whore Couture, though I would say his skins don’t rate as much “whorish” as sexy and elegant. Check out this skin he shows, which I colored up with glossy lips from Mocksoup Graves from the Free*Style event. Wickedly thin and sexy brows with a colorful eye add up to sexy. And this page boy from MissAllSunday Lemon from the FaMESHed event with locks that fall discreetly over my chest without cutting in. Mesh is awesome!
