“Geishas are not courtesans. And we are not wives. We sell our skills, not our bodies. We create another secret world, a place only of beauty. The very word ‘Geisha’ means artist and to be a Geisha is to be judged as a moving work of art.” ~ Arnold Golden, Memoirs of a Geisha

The variety of skin styles at the Skin Fair is astonishing. The artistry of each skin maker, their vision and purpose, goes beyond just making money but making our SLs more beautiful. Shai Delacroix has taken a huge step in this direction with her beautiful Song skins, “inspired by Chinese opera and cherry blossoms.” I opted to use the skin in a Geisha look (not Chinese but Japanese), conflating the cultural ideas Shai expresses even more. (Honestly, it’s a lot easier to find kimonos in SL.)

This free mesh kimono from Ameshin Yossarian was a piece of luck as it went so well with the parasol from Nix Marabana, which has color change and will probably figure in another blog as it comes with several poses. Combined with poses from Tutys, I had the look locked up, especially with mesh okobo (is that the plural for okobo?) from Nadia Swizzle.

Look even more closely at this gorgeous skin with a watercolor spray on the lids and forehead, as if I am a geisha painted delicately as a cherry blossom on a canvas. Shai’s ads are even inspiring. I was so fortunate that Amberly Bocaccio had this headpiece at Collabor88; it was perfect. And the best textured geisha hairs can be found at KateForster Akina’s store.
