Lou Reed passed away this weekend, so in remembrance of him and with a sad heart for his wife, Laurie Anderson, I quote his famous song “Sweet Jane.” My sweet Jane wears an LBD—“little black dress”—this one from Kim Lysette for Liv Glam, a cute mesh skirt with a cleverly made lace system top with a criss-cross back. I wanna be evil and the best way to be evil is to be deadly beautiful. With one of Mami Jewell’s newest gowns, I am wicked in the sexiest way. Mami has embraced mesh and brought her lush textures to a medium that is crowded with less-than-ideal artwork. She has also done what I love seeing designers do—mixing prims and mesh—this time with a feathered collar to create a dramatic, face-framing shape and beautiful satin flexi prims on the bottom for movement and elegance. Everything this gown is dramatic but not overstated.

My vampiress look is achieved from several elements. First, Aida Ewing featured the Lucy skins a few weeks ago and with their “snow” complexion and very subtle brows and lips contrasting with a dark dark eye, they are perfect for this gorgeous specter. I found fangs from Sissy Pessoa were a perfect tattoo overlay—not too overt and elegant. And Carina Larsen’s white, elegantly rolled up-do is the epitome of restrained refinement that our cold-blooded beauty needs.

I am reading Cloud Atlas, and oh, what a great book! This quote is only a smidgen of the gorgeousness of David Mitchell’s writing, which changes in voice among his characters. (Oh, Robert Frobisher, you wily sexy penniless bon vivant bisexual composer.. what a delicious wit you have!)

My Eva is a credit to the romantic love the narrator feels for her. Start with this charming mesh dress from LeeZu Baxter. With its flowered blouse and Victorian style sleeves, lace pencil skirt and satin hem, this gorgeous piece is an homage to the 70s in its complex textures and silhouette. I paired Maizon Rayna’s gorgeous jewelry with the outfit. A real life fashion designer, Maizon has always dreamed of being a jewelry maker and in SL she can do it. This gorgeous onyx pearl set with its accompanying flower-shaped jeweled ring includes earrings and a bracelet, which I do not show.

Aida Ewing’s gorgeous Vera skin gives our Eva a perfect look with darkly lined eyes and a pale pink lipstick and blush. Queue Marlowe’s latest, a side swept ‘do, gives the whole look a beautifully blonde tumble of curls. And Reira Islay’s eyes, sold at the Halloween Mini Mart, are intensely lovely.

I’ve been off a few days, nursing a cold and taking care of RL, and.. well… indulging in math. I know that seems weird. Who likes math? Well I do! The Khan Academy has a great site for working on math skills and it’s the kind of puzzle gaming I love to do—with the added benefit of improving my mind. Look, if Danica McKellar can do it, so can I!

Simple math tells me if I put together a great top with terrific jeans, I’m going to have a fabulous look. Erratic Rain has recently released this mesh top that fits perfectly over any mesh bottoms you can come up with. That’s saying a lot because, if you haven’t noticed, mesh from different creators doesn’t always play well together. But Erratic has designed the ultimate sexy but casual blouse in several colors that does the trick. Shai Delacroix has recently released these bootylicious jeans with a color changing HUD that includes 8 shades. Who needs a separate mesh booty when you already have it going on? Moonbubble Gothly made the darling mesh sneakers I wear with this casual look.

A pale and lovely skin, Aida Ewing’s latest skin line is a knock out. With her finely drawn brows, beautifully defined eyes and gorgeous lips, she has once again given the grid beauty. M4r1lyn Magic offers this sexy mesh hair with one of four color HUDs for your most gorgeous hair-down looks. It all adds up to wonderful!

I have been feeling a bit alien lately. First of all, I have a horrible cold and I am heavily medicated. And then I have been playing with a new set of skins from Galathir Darkstone. First let me point out a sexy ensemble from Ivy Burner, this webbed bikini that includes appliers for several busts and booty that she is offering at Bewbapalooza. (There is part of me opposed to even mentioning the name of the event, but in all fairness to Ivy, I must.) I wanted to wear this see through look so you could see Galathir’s gorgeous skin.

The skins have beautiful textures and subtle shadows. I chose a pretty tame one here—there is a gorgeous blue and pink skin, one that is yellow and green, another that is dark drow and several others. They sound more garish than they are—the shading is really lovely. If you want a fantasy skin that makes you a walking piece of art, this would be the skin.

What makes the skins really a value is that Galathir includes appliers for *everything* you could throw at him—Slink feet and hands, the Loud Mouth, the Phat Azz, Tango breasts (though I was able to wear Lush and it worked fine), his own tail, ears and genitals. I opted to wear hands, feet and boobs so you could see how well they blend with his appliers and I was able to do it all from ONE hud. Whew! (And with such a fine ass on the skin, who needs more mesh there?)

I nosed around Cruella Pennella’s store to find an awesome ‘do, and found this short cut that is sassy and sexy with great textures. Abraxxa Anatine is offering cat eyes for spooky looks (she isn’t just limited to jewelry). And I loved these elaborate jeweled earrings from AvaGardner Kungler, which are her offering at L’Accessoire.

I have to write this blog so fast because I have to get ready to go see the Tedeschi Trucks Band TONIGHT. I am so excited! I have written about them before in my blog and now I get to see Derek and Susan live! I will be wearing an outfit with black stripes as this one has, my hair down, a scarf and sweater, leggings and boots (not so warm here as it is in SL). I am going with my favorite guy who knows how to do right by his woman. (By taking me to this concert, first of all!) Happy Anniversary, honey!

I opted for this striped dress from Kaiden Trill because it’s so sexy. I know it’s a template mesh dress but Kaiden has made it work with the stripes running across the body—this is a classic, and also inexpensive at The Limitee this round. I dressed it up with Maxi Gossamer’s goth jewelry from Collabor88 (perfect for this Halloween season) and sandals from Siddean Munro.

Aida Ewing’s pale skin, being offered at Kustom9, is a great look for these stripes and Queue Marlowe’s bouncy beautiful curls with the great HUD that offers me the ombre option I show here, makes the look. Komorebi (Japanese): The sunlight that filters through the leaves of trees. ~ “11 Untranslatable Words from Other Cultures”

I got a link to a great blog entry about some words that exist in languages that are not directly translatable. Whenever I think of untranslatable words, I think of things like schadenfreude and ennui, but this blog had quite a few others that I found lovely and fascinating. Take, for example, iktsuarpok, which is Inuit for “the feeling of anticipation that leads you to keep looking outside to see if anyone is coming.” Or what I have in my house—pochemuchka, Russian for “a person who asks a lot of questions.”

If I think about SL, there is so much that is not quite translatable to people I know in other parts of my life: teleporting, inventory, prim. Then among us in the SL world, there is a lot that might not quite translate but somehow we made SL coming from many different cultures. Mind blowing when you think about it.

So it’s kind of cool to think about the Bitacora Travel Fair, which is opening October 17. Ariadna Garrigus, whose brand is one of the sponsors, is offering two African dresses and an Asian ensemble. The dress I am wearing, with a bold African pattern, is a chic look when you want to get in touch with your African roots. I am not sure this would survive safari but it will manage a walk along a catwalk, sans lion.

JohnFrancis Laville sent over this new Kufi hat he is working on. It has not been released but will be soon in a set of several colors. I couldn’t resist showing it with this dress (sorry JF). Please note Johnfrancis is using materials in his mesh—the light reflects off the shiny surface of this hat.

Circe Ishtari was out of the loop for a bit but has come back with this lovely new skin, which I have made more intense with lipstick from Mocksoup Graves. Tabata Jewell has released this wild and wooly hair with her color changing hud.

Finally my necklace from Paul Lapointe and BastChild Lotus, which is their offering at the Body Modification Expo, includes their ingenious HUD imaginations. This time the necklace can color change in the beads, have resizing and metal changing but even more importantly, you can change the sentiment on the tab from anything to “Forever” or “Always” to “Friends Forever.” Even better, you can include your loved one’s or friend’s initials on one of the rings with yours via the HUD. Callie Cline, of course, gets place of prominence as she is always willing to tolerate my jayus, which is Indonesian for “a joke told so poorly and so unfunny that one cannot help but laugh.”

Candy Corn

Candy is dandy but liquor is quicker. ~ Ogden Nash

Candy corn is like crack for me. I eat it without stop if it is available, so I make sure it’s not available. I really hate that fuzzy feeling on my teeth from the sugar, though. I chose this outfit for one of the photos I submitted to LL for the front page. They didn’t choose it because another photographer also chose the outfit, so I show it here because I think it’s cute as heck. Precious Restless has put together mesh and system pieces to make this charming look. She includes two different brooms with poses and big bat wings that I chose not to wear. The pumpkins are darling and she has decorated this look with spider webs and bats that flutter around.

The perfect skin for this look was Aida Ewing’s orange eye-lined skin from last month’s Collabor88. (Yes I realize I am past due on this in the blog but the original photos were taken a bit ago.) Blonde mesh braids from MissAllSunday Lemon and intense black eyes from Ikon Innovia made my witch cute but still wicked. Finally, boots from Syntella Rhapsody, with the buttons set to copper, complete this look.

Crème Brûlée

Crème brûlée—that sweet creamy confection with the hard outer shell—a better metaphor for some personalities than mushy strawberry shortcake or fluffy angel food cake or fussy soufflé. It’s an elegant dessert with a subtle reward of richness and sweetness. This look gives the same—with a cream colored dress, criss-crossing over the chest with tiered ruffles on the hips, it’s a sleek look from LeeZu Baxter.

Look closely and you can see how LeeZu uses the materials feature in the SL Viewer to make the dress have a more matte material, especially compared to the glossy leather handbag from Goucchi/Steffen Garcia and my strappy gold sandals from Gospel Voom (both available at Collabor88) and my glossy gold earrings from Anastazja Brimm. It’s this juxtaposition of textures—just like the hard carmelized top of crème brûlée is broken open to find a creamy custard—that makes this look pure confection.

Chiaki Xue has just come out with this side-swept curly short style. No one does shorter, curlier styles like Chiaki, and the textures and curls in the hair add a humanness and complexity that many hairs lack in SL. My skin is Umazuma Metaluna’s newest offering, a rich beautiful visage with an optional glow and gloss for the lips. I added eyeliner from Ekilem, which is being offered at TDR Fusion, to pop the eyes, which are chocolatey confection from Umazuma.

How can you not think these are the best times of our lives.. well our second lives. We have mesh, we have new rendering, we have a plethora of great content creators. C’mon, folks. Enjoy it! I put together an outfit with mixed textures today to compliment my furniture feature. An older shrug from Cerberus Noel (quality always looks good) keeps my shoulders warm over this top from Isabelle Requiem, which she is offering at She & Him. I tucked little shorts from Sanura Snowpaw underneath and work butterfly garter socks from Nena Janus. Group gift boots from Jaimy Hancroft complete this look (with clocks etched in the leather if you look closely).

My whole exercise in showing so many prints and colors in the outfit was to compliment the fabulous new furniture set from Cory Edo, which she is offering at FaMESHed this month. It’s no secret I am a *huge* fan of Cory, not only her work, which is artistic, well made, and top notch but also her attitude, which is practical, cheerful and intelligent. She loves mesha nd it loves her. With darkly lined eyes and full sensuous lip, this is a bit more mature look for her skins and quite welcome. My updo is one of Truth Hawk’s newest and so much easier to wear now he has a texture change hud.
