Enchantment, which is opening on February 1, will be an event taking as its theme “Little Red Riding Hood.” You’d think it would be an event full of baskets and capes, and while there are plenty of those, there is also an undercurrent of resistance to a story of a lovely little girl being tricked by a wolf. First, much of the clothing is less for a little girl and more for a woman, like this gorgeous gown by Monica Outlander. Now, I am not surprised Monica upends the tale of a sweet little girl by turning her into a sophisticated vamp—Monica is never satisfied with the status quo. Her gorgeous Blanchette gown evokes the sleek beauty of its namesake, Cate Blanchett. Monica imbues Little Red Riding Hood with something else with this hooded gown.

Amanda Randall imagines the wolf less as a threat than an accessory with her posing wolf at Enchantment. With six darling poses, you can go from long lean model to besties with the wolf. Maybe “my such big eyes you have” could become friendship or true love….

Then you have Isabeau Baragula’s evocative accessories—bowed Mary Janes and w wearable wolf mask that goes over the face or on top of the head. Is LRRH the victim or the sheep hiding in wolf’s clothing? I love how the headpiece looks as a sort of perverse tiara. Isabeau also sells a horned chair with several great poses, the bowed branch draped with silk (color-change, of course) and a mounted wolf’s head. I think the wolf is in big trouble in Isabeau’s version of Little Red Riding Hood.

Finally, Nina Helix made an exclusive skin for this event—a vamped up Red Riding Hood, and it comes with all the appliers you could need. With dark eyes and a deep deep red matte lip, heavy brows and a very romantic face, this is not your traditional skin. When I first put it on, I had to get used to it but once I paired it with Keiba’s dark eyes, I was enchanted, especially with one of Truth Hawk’s newest hairs in black. Watch out, Wolf, Little Red Riding Hood is out to get you!

Strawberry-flavored lip gloss (and I don’t mean THAT Strawberry) and a bright pink outfit and my dreary cold winter is brightened. Heard this on KCRW this morning and thought it was a great reminder cased in a beautiful song and luscious voice. And I felt love, true love, when Zaara Kohime came out with this dress today. In this dress you see great design and beauty combined. First start with the colors and texture—rich, textured, glorious. I can feel a million little silkworms working their magic to make the fine threads that were woven. I can feel the weight and quality of this fabric and the labor of the finest Indian artisans who wove it. I can detect the scent of the dressmaker’s perfume, the designer’s first sketch leading to this gorgeous piece. Wear it with materials turned on and you just go, “Wow!”

Lest you think I am waxing poetic over nothing here, let me point out the design. Zaara did her own mesh and did it wonderfully. She has cleverly made the silhouette of a lady with a perfect peek-a-boo at the calf, a nice simple wraparound at the bust and a form-fitting mesh that moves gracefully with the avatar. Combining the perfect alpha with great rigging is the secret here. There is no bump in the hip as it transitions from waist to hip (which I see a lot in mesh dresses) or a weirdly shaped rear-end. She even gets the transition of the fabric as is wraps around built into the mesh. I feel as exhilarated wearing this as I do driving my friend’s Audi—fine engineering and beauty give me chills.

This is why I had to style this dress with Truth Hawk’s newest hair, also a piece of beauty and fine engineering. He has finally got his HUD, his vendors, his textures down pat. Now he can send out pretty things for us to enjoy. I really have to hand it to Truth—he has never sat back on his success and let himself become obsolete as a result. H’es always seeking ways to make things better for his customers.

Our “femme,” in one of Mami Jewell’s fantastic releases she made for the ladies of the Miss Virtual World (in this case Eva Luxury), is bound to make any man lose his step. The Scent of a Woman

My favorite perfume in college was Opium. And then Eau de Givenchy. Two very different scents—one cloying and sticky with richness and spice, the other very floral and fresh. Some time after that I wore Romance from Ralph Lauren. Now I wear Noa, a huge bottle of which I got in the Charles de Gaulle airport duty free when I was on layover from Berlin because I could no longer find it in the US. (Now I can get it online but I bought a barrel of it so I am still set for a while.)

The problem with virtual living is the problem of the other senses. Many people suggest touch is missing but I think it’s scent that is missing even more. The scent of a lovely lady walking by in a long gown, such as this one by Synjari Myriam. I bought the “Cream,” which is more of a taupe to me. I love the flutter cap sleeves and the wrapped front on the bodice. Synjari has managed to give this a richness and sheen with her deft texturing.

Gianni Broda (who goes by various display names I can’t keep track of) issued this gorgeously rich skin a few days ago, which he is selling at Fi*Fridays with hand and feet appliers. I think it’s gorgeous, especially with this side-tied hair from Truth Hawks, who just released a bunch of new gorgeous ‘dos. Bracelets are from one of my favorite jewelry makers, AvaGardner Kungler. My necklace and shoes came from Collabor88—Maxi Gossamer and Darling Monday. Some gorgeous finds there this month!

Close Knit

My dream someday is to knit a sweater or dress or skirt. I have managed scarves (many of them), a few hats, a few shawls, mittens, even socks, but sweaters are daunting. I once knew a beautiful Russian woman who could knit dresses for her gorgeous self without a pattern.

This dress from Ariadne Garrigus reminded me of Svetlana’s skill. With a cable running down the length of the dress and a thick chunky brown yarn, the dress is lovely for cold winter days. The belt would appear to be white in my photos but it’s actually tan—the materials setting in the SL Viewer picks up the sheen Arianda gave it.

The new hat and hair set from Mirja Mills is a perfect accompaniment to the dress. Also knit in a chunky yarn, the scarf comes with a color change HUD as does the hat on the hair. I am loving the options these give to any look. My skin is Ydreece Forster’s newest. She is changing her brand name from Mirror’s Enigma to Morphine so if you hear about Morphine skins, that’s the old Mirror’s Enigma. Ydreece gives a fresh look to her skins. Without a lot of makeup, the skins are a perfect palette for cosmetic layers, though I opted for the simple bare look.

Momentary Bliss

I woke up this morning to fresh snow and bright sunshine, and I made muffins, ate a bowl of perfectly sweet cantaloupe, found a most beautiful piece of music from the KCRW song of the day in my podcasts, a chat with a dear new friend, and received a lovely skin to blog. What more bliss can one have?

I ran off to Leroy to take photos of this beautiful mesh dress by Cocoro Lemon, which she is featuring at the Season’s Story. I tried for white but the vendors were not working well that evening, and I ended up with beige, and with this look, it’s about as aetherial as mesh can get. I decided to keep my accessories to a minimum—a flower ring in my hair from Wisp Jinn and anklet from Caelan Hancroft.

I have to admit one good reason for my bliss was this new skin from Umazuma Petaluna. The face is sublime with depth and a natural beauty which appealed to my mood today. Uma has clearly put a lot of work into this skin, from the beautifully drawn brows to the expressive eyes to the smattering of freckles and gentle blush and the full bee-stung lips. She includes appliers for hands and feet (which is why I could wear my Slink hands and feet and run through the grass barefoot), breasts and butt.

I am wearing Queue Marlowe’s newest hair, which falls on my shoulders in gentle waves and looks beautifully natural with its deep textures and attractive silhouette. Deep eyes from Keiba finish this gorgeous look.

Hindsight

Today it’s all about the ass.. well the new “Cute Azz” from CK Winx. This is the follow-up to the very popular Phat Azz that has proliferated across the grid, amazing some and well frankly, disgusting others. The Cute Azz is meant to be a toned down and improved version of the original and in this respect, it is. The derriere is smaller and the legs are more shapely and proportionate. It’s definitely not nearly as outrageous.

So I ran out and got it—I couldn’t help myself this time. It really is silly to be mod of a skin group without knowing some of the products people ask about, and well, I was curious after seeing some photos. The photos you see here compare my Harper shape as I customarily wear it against wearing the Cute Azz. I will note that to make the mesh look better on me, I did lower my body fat and belly to 0 as suggested, both of which are above 0 on Harper’s shape. I also increased the hip width and length slightly to make the mesh piece look more proportionate on me.

(Let me interject here with a big hint to all you fashionistas out there: rigged mesh pieces can be made to look better on you when you fiddle with your shape. For the Azz, it responded to changes in hip width and length. For Slink hands, I STRONGLY encourage you all to increase your hand size to 30 or 40 because your regular hands will look like T-Rex hands when you wear the mesh. Do not be so attached to the numbers that you end up looking freakish—they are sliders with arbitrary numbers, not a remark on your own personal value.)

That being said, I found the Cute Azz with the thicker thighs to indeed have an appealing curve on the fronts and backs of the thighs and the calves. I didn’t care for the skinnier legs on the regular one.

What really put me off, again, was that ridiculous thigh gap, which I first saw in a pair of Maitreya pants, and which shows up on both Azzes. Though it’s a RL fashion, it’s been written down by such august fashion institutions as Cosmopolitan because it puts ridiculous body image ideals on women. It’s really got to stop—most women don’t look like this and most of us don’t want to. Additionally, the gap causes the ass itself to have a funny peak to it which you can see in the photos comparing my system shape to the mesh butt. It’s really odd and not in line with how a truly luscious lady’s butt looks.

I believe it’s possibly a function of how mesh works on our avatars—I see lots of gaps under arms, between legs, etc. It’s a really unfortunate result. I challenge CK Winx to get rid of that gap on her next revision.

I concluded, after trying it out, that I can live with Harper’s regular shape for most purposes. I can see the appeal of the thicker thigh piece for certain shots that would accentuate the legs but it’s such a minor difference, I can’t see the point.

Let me give a rundown on the fashion here. I saw this outfit from Amberchaudry Corpur that included a Phat Azz applier at the Designer Circle and thought it would be ideal for a sexy look. I dressed it up with a  hip chain from Maxi Gossamer that I love and which includes sizing on all axes, so you can make it hang just right. Boots from Syntella Rhapsody fit my bootiliciousness and Aida Ewing has included appliers for everything with her new skin at the Season’s Story, where this great hair style from MissAllSunday Lemon is also being offered (and great to get if you can swim through the lag).

Violet in the Snow

The beautiful little dark purple violet is a flower of early spring, the first color to emerge after a long winter. This beautiful coat by SamanthaSJones reminds me so much of that beautiful little flower, especially with its deep lovely brocade texture with glistening accents. The buttons, the wide collar, the pocket plackets are all a romantic’s dream. The HUD comes with color change so you are not limited to just the violet—there is a deep green, gold, etc. Get the coat—you get a HUD with six colors in total. (And secret: if you rush over there you may still find it out for 55L if they didn’t pick it up yet!)

I wore Maxi Gossamer’s lovely little dragon’s egg pendant, which she is featuring at Collabor88. The stone, as you can see, has materials features so the light plays off the surface in a way you won’t see on most jewelry. I accessorized with tights from Bax Coen and fur boots from Cerberus Noel I chose especially for this look.
