I love love—not just romantic (eros) but also agape, philia and storge. The song that names this blog is sweet and charming and has a wonderful ending. YOU become the one who loves you the most, a message I wholeheartedly endorse. (I linked a video of newlyweds dancing and it’s so charming if you are into that sort of thing.)

The soft voice of Brent Dennen serves this outfit from Ariadna Garrigus well. With its bohemian softness, the beautiful embroidery along the neckline and hem, and the light linen (that shows up as a big shiny in a materials viewer), this dress is easy going and sexy all at once, kind of like his singing. I paired it with a limited edition gypsy necklace from Neftisis Rhiadra, which is available in two colors and in limited quantities at Limited Bazaar. And I finally got to wear my cute wedge heels from Terrie Dreadlow that come with a plain color HUD and then add on HUDs with brocade and other patterns. That, I think, was an ingenious way to market the shoes—sell the add-to-Slink shoes with separately-sold add-on HUDs.

Queue Marlowe will be putting this hair down on the floor today if she hasn’t already (or so she told me). With a braid crossing the forehead and curls bound up to the side, it’s a mix of hippy and disco. Of course, Queue includes her gorgeous textures in each texture-change HUD with great ombres. My skin is Aida Ewing’s newest for the Cutie Moon Fair, which everyone is blogging right now. I realize this is hardly anime/Sailor Moon but that is the versatility of Aida’s skins that I can also be a gypsy, crunchy-chewy girl with her lovely visage.

I also want to note my condolences to the friends and family of Dirk Talamasca. He passed away yesterday and his brother posted a message to Facebook on his behalf. SO many people knew Dirk, enjoyed his friendship, his kindness and his humor. He lived a good life.

Lula

I have been sitting on that quote a long time to use it for a look and it seems perfect because this look reminds me of Lula Landry, the tragically murdered model from Robert Galbraith’s/J.K. Rowling’s first book about the private investigator, Cormoran Strike. I read the book enthusiastically before I knew Harry Potter’s creator had written it—it really is well-written and incredibly enjoyable with full-fleshed characters and a great plot. Cormoran Strike is a complex and incredibly interesting man. Clearly Harry Potter isn’t the only one she has in her. Now she has a new one coming out in June and I can’t wait!

My Lula is fashionable, of course, but also gentle in the way Lula in the book was. She was not sharp, not a Naomi Campbell. She is a woman of mixed-race, adopted by a wealthy family, clearly loved by them. And loved greatly by the public as well, being beautiful and gentle as she is. So it’s a shock when she has been murdered. This gorgeous maxi-dress from Kim Lysette is a fashionista’s dream with its great silhouette and texture-change HUD (6 variations of this texture) and ridiculously inexpensive at 55L at Fi*Friday. I embellished with a gorgeous new necklace from AvaGardner Kungler, who contributes the best jewels to the grid. As always, her use of color and shape is what amazes.

My absolutely drop-dead gorgeous skin, the impetus for bringing Lula back, is from Shantia Soulstar. This was one of my favorite skins at Skin Fair this year, breathtaking in its beauty, proportions, and coloring. Her included makeups are subtle enough that the beauty of the skin and the avatar shine through. And with these gorgeous eyes from Umazuma Metaluna and this gorgeous long hair with trimmed bangs framing my face from Truth Hawks, my Lula is every bit the gorgeous, graceful model I imagined.

A couple times a week I go over to the high school for water aerobics and when I am done, I walk through the halls and I am so amazed and excited to see the variety of looks and styles the kids have. And no one walks around with duck lips. None of the kids dress like this but I do remember “Rock’n’Roll High School” and how revolutionary it was at the time, so I made this look in tribute. Start with my guitar from Christel Morane and my lunchbox from xOLanaxO Serenity at the Luck of Irish Gacha Fair (had to sneak that lunchbox in again). Then add more glasses from Boyd Krastins for a more academic look and one of Sasy Scarborough’s new nail appliers from My Attic.

Ivy Burner has a few of these exclusive corsets left at her store—this is a limited edition and I am not sure why they weren’t gone immediately because it’s a gorgeous piece of mesh and texturing work. I topped Paul Lapointe and Bastchild Lotus’ new sexy zipper pants that come with their amazing texture-change HUD (with a variety of amazing textures—these pants will be seen again and again). And oh my, look at that tush. Paul does the best ass in SL, bar none. And Circe Ishtari has put out these amazingly sexy next boots!

The whole impetus for the look was, of course, Kavar Cleanslate’s hair band hair, which he is featuring at My Attic. I think Kavar and I went to rock’n’roll high school together because the sight of this hair made me laugh and then drift back into reminiscing (during which I sang that “Reminiscing” song from the Little River Band from my childhood and then I went to find my old black Phil Collins concert t-shirt and it turned into something schmaltzy I can’t share here and then realized with horror that this is all considered “retro” now). I donned Ava Grau’s gorgeous new skin from Skin Fair, which I will be showing again, of course, because I layered on Madrid Solo’s deep cherry lips and one of the free eyeliners Nena Janus offers at Skin Fair. The Power of Orange

It was 0 degrees again last night. In late March. I am not sure what to think anymore but this is going to be one long winter into spring. I need a bit of spark and color to get me going so I put on this gorgeous set from LacunaInc, which she is featuring at My Attic this month. I chose the brightest color—orange and matched it with the skirt she calls “Vivacious.” I love the casual look, the bold graphics and the charm of the bright colors.

I took a trip over to the Luck of the Irish Gacha and filled up on lunchboxes and other fun things. I kept going for the Aloha lunchbox but ended up with about 5 of this Elegant Elephant from XoLanaXo Serenity, which was just as well because it looks great with this outfit and has the fun style I needed. I aced the orange ring from Keishi Roo right off and Jade Winthorpe’s chocolate watch was just fine for me. Boyd Krastins passed me these darling glasses, colored in these two crazy tones just for my look. He’ll be releasing them soon in many more fashionable colors.

Skin Fair is still on. If you haven’t gotten there, you really need to. NatalieWells has released a set of elegant skins in various shades, including this darker brown. It’s hard to make a darker skin right in SL, but Natalie manages it. The “Kim” set is presumably named after a famous Kim and comes in nine shades with two different lipstick sets and the appliers separately. I amped the skin up with makeup from Madrid Solo, also at Skin Fair. I love how the color pops on Natalie’s dark skin and makes the look all the more luscious. Mina Nakamura is featuring this darling up-do at My Attic as well as Sasy Scarborough’s graphically fun nails. You have to get over there to get your color fix!

Let me say right off, I am NOT bored. Not with SL or what I am showing. I am merely amused today with John Merryman and had to share this poem, which always appealed to me. Whenever someone pipes up in Skin Addiction that they are bored, I always say something like Merryman’s mother. Then I suggest they go out and about in SL or else log off and find a good book to read. There is so much to explore in this world!

I like running around the grid in something kind of non-themed and cute so entrance into any adventure is guaranteed. This gorgeous new dress from AvaGardner Kungler is a great pick because it combines pattern with solid, an all-in-one that can get you from needing a skirt to prancing around a garden. I love the Mary Janes Sissy Pessoa is selling at FaMESHed with texture-change socks. Her mesh is well-proportioned and as with everything Sissy does, beautifully textured. I am sure these shoes are going to show up again on my feet. When I go out and about, I make sure I carry my inventory in a big bag (because it’s big) and this almost-free bag from Temperance Snoodle does the trick.

Circe Ishtari of Tokyo Girl had backed off making skins for a time. She hand-draws them, which is time-consuming for her and with RL things going on, she wasn’t finding the time. She followed her muse with several hair releases and mesh fashions. But she is back, gloriously, at Skin Fair 2014 with three new skins, one of which is the one I am showing. Available in five tones with appliers for boobs and butt (but not hands or feet, regrettably), all three of the skins include a makeup and natural version. I topped my look with M4ri1yn Magic’s darling top knot from the Attic, available with his awesome textures via HUD, which one can click around to test looks to avoid boredom. Love the wisps! (There’s my next suggestion when someone says they are bored—”Go click something!”)

Emerald Dreams

Green is the color of spring and therefore the color of love as far as I am concerned. Green is the color of life and I can’t wait to see it pop up. That’s’ why I chose to wear Poulet Koenkamp’s newest gown in this lichen green. She combines a sexy mesh template dress with her distinctive textures and flexi prims to give this gorgeous romantic spring dress embroidered with gold on the seams. Add a pair of opera gloves with a dramatic top (and Slink-enabled tattoo if you want to wear them with mesh hands), and I am greeting spring with love!

My skin is Bonnie Forder’s exclusive for Skin Fair 2014. I loved the elegantly drawn brows and this cupid’s bow mouth, very distinctive to this skin. The makeup is gorgeous—a green liner around my beautiful eyes from Cruelle Pennell. The skin comes in 6 tones with 15 lipsticks, and appliers for all you need are available as well as cleavage and hair down there. Skin Fair is STILL ON (through March 30) and if you are like me, you will return again and again to ponder the gorgeous new offerings from the best skin designers on the grid. Kavar Cleanslate came out with this lovely banged cut not long ago and I had to wear it in this gorgeous auburn to match the green of my look.

Homespun

I am pretty excited. I just bought my first CSA share after attending a farmers’ open house at a local park. CSA means “Community Supported Agriculture,” and it means I just purchased a share of the crop a local farmer will be harvesting this year. Each week I will get something like a half bushel of a variety of produce (and eggs and other good stuff if I opt in) delivered to a home near me from a farm about an hour away. If you’re curious, you can click here to see a CSA box from another local farm being filled. I am excited because I have really enjoyed visiting farmers’ markets in my city and now it’s coming to me and I know I am helping support a local farming family. I will be challenged this summer and fall learning how to prepare some items I have not cooked with before—fennel, anyone? But I am taking to heart Alice Waters’ ideas about eating locally, eating in season and eating sustainably.

This darling patchwork dress from Ariadna Garrigus made me think about this again, though I signed up over a week ago and won’t see my first share until June. The beauty of her patchwork on this mesh skirt paired with a crocheted top made me think of homemade goodness and going back to the earth. She cinches it with a wide leather belt and the dress form comes in three other variations.

Aleida Rhode is offering this gorgeous skin at Skin Fair. In 7 tones with eyebrow variations and cleavage options. She also features 15 lipsticks in a variety of shades (not just pinks and reds) and all the appliers you would ever need. It’s Aleida’s typically high style, elegant approach to skin making.

A long braid, pulled up in back and bound in sections down its length is Mirja Mills’ newest offer. With wispy pieces slipping out in front, it’s romantic and sexy. With Mirja’s great HUD, especially the “natural” colors, it’s a great look for RP or every day wear.

A menagerie of poufs have landed in my studio, mismatched but still darling. Sway Dench has packed her gacha at the Arcade with these darling little creations, which can be mixed and matched, each containing four poses specific to the piece, all cleverly included so you can have one pouf and it works! I dressed to match the poufs in Circe Ishtari’s newest dress, a sexy mini with bows and pretty satin flowered textures. Cyclic Gearz’ just-released high heels for the Slink high feet are bowed as well but also ridiculously sexy. One more bow at my neck from Aranel Ah and it’s all tied up.

Elizaokkbye’s skin from Skin Fair 2014 is a quandary. It’s got an innocence to it that could make it almost suitable for child avatars except the lips, which are lush and, frankly, purely sexy. Her skins come in 8 tones with a cosmetics pack that includes many moles and freckles, a lipstick pack with color-modifiable tattoo lipsticks, a “rough night/eyebags pack,” and all the appliers. I overlaid one of her lipsticks with a pink base and upped the pinkiness (as the makeup can be modified with SL color) and amped up the innocence and sexiness of my look, especially when I wore MissAllSunday Lemon’s curly pigtails from the Whore Couture event.

Woke up this morning after holding off a cold all night, nearly fell out of bed, tripped over the basket of laundry that needs to be put away, knocked my knee on the nightstand—all on the way to grab a phone call from a robot who wanted to tell me how to improve my credit. Awakened this way, I felt it could only get worse and, of course, I found myself with the bottom of the cereal box in my bowl—all crumbs.

The phone rang again, this time asking for a donation. I spilled the box of almond milk reaching to get it. Someone left just one paper towel around the cardboard center—I had to run to the basement to get more. And on it goes… the quotidian problems of the life—all before even logging into SL, which has its share of “spilled milk.”

Now I could turn this into a diatribe or some rant but really, why bother? Look at it this way: I have almond milk to spill, pre-crushed cereal (no chewing needed), a bed to fall back into later, and a functioning computer. It’s not been a great start so why be a glamour puss today? Why not put on something comfy and get life taken care of?

First I start with a tank and shirt from Aikeo Rieko, who is grossly generous with anything she sells. Each shirt pack includes the tank with its specific look, which can be worn alone, but also three versions of the shirt for your styling pleasure and the needed alphas. My darling pants are from Spooky Mistwallow, who sells them in a variety of neutrals for great mix and match. The butt looks good! Sandals to go with Slink flat feet are a find from Rebeca Dembo.

What really cheered me up is Aikea Reiko’s skin for Skin Fair 2014. She has been refining her skins as of late and her recent offering is lovely with a neutral face for layering on many different kinds of makeups and an even, pretty skin tone. The skins come in 7 tones with all the required appliers for fun in SL. She offers such a clean palette for her many makeups, which clearly are her joy to make and which match the delightful designs of her clothing. She is offering makeups and Slink nail appliers at Skin Fair as well.

My hair is one of Truth Hawks’ newest, a bob with a blunt cut at the bangs (love how he shows this in the wisps of hair pushed to the side). I chose to color with a blonde that included more orange tips. I love how I can select different hair color options off his HUDs.

It saddens me to say that the people of Syria continue to be at war with themselves with thousands of women and children, no part of the political sphere, dying each day as a result. The situation is complicated; there is no easy solution or intervention.

Today is my son’s 11th birthday. He has a life of unusual comfort and privilege, especially compared to the boys of Syria. Where he has food, they may not. Where he has a superior education, they may not be able to read yet. Where he can feel safe going to bed at night, they may fear death. His drinking water is safe and clean. His mother can cuddle him and assure him all will be all right as I know it will. I have been so fortunate to be able to give my son a wonderful life.

As a mother, my heart aches for the mothers who have to move their children to save them from violence, to feed them, to find shelter for them, sometimes without the assistance of their families or spouses. I feel helpless in the face of this. So all I can do is send my heartfelt wishes to these mothers and children that the crisis in their country will soon end, a wish sent out on my sons’s 11th birthday—from both of us.

That doesn’t mean we can not care about the people of Syria, particularly the children. An international movement, #WithSyria, has gotten attention, and the artist Banksy has made a simple statement by redoing a piece of his/her artwork to reflect this:

On the 6th March 2011 in the Syrian town of Daraa, fifteen children
were arrested and tortured for painting anti-authoritarian graffiti.
The protests that followed their detention led to an outbreak of violence
across the country that would see a domestic uprising transform into a
civil war displacing 9.3 million people from their homes.
