Meeting Ebbe

Meeting Ebbe

The only thing worse than a coach or CEO who doesn’t care about his people is one who pretends to care. People can spot a phony every time. ~ Jimmy Johnson

Meeting Ebbe

One of the (few) privileges of being the webperson for SL11B is when something good happens, I get an in. I logged in yesterday, prepared to shoot this blog and Doc IM’d saying Ebbe Linden was at SL11B and did I want to come? Well, dang, yes, there is nothing better than seeing a CEO in the wild, and there he was, talking up a blue streak (literally blue because his text appears blue in Firestorm), charming the visitors to Jo Yardley’s biergarten in her 1920s Berlin exhibit at SL11B. (I did ask Jo about pretzels. Our own biergarten serves them!) He was clearly interested in what was going on and interacting with people. It was good to see him in world.

Meeting Ebbe

He didn’t talk to me really. I am sure he saw me because I was one of the taller folks there (statuesque–not absurd– and there were a lot of child avis around). I am glad I wore this dress from Cameron Velinov, which is her 1L GIFT at the Summer Fashion Festival (omgah!). It includes a texture change HUD with this same pattern in several color ways. (Yes, I wore a 1L dress to meet Ebbe Linden.) I paired Maxi Gossamer’s summery and fun earrings and sandals from Collabor88 with the look. The whole ensemble comes off as elegant casual, not too goofy or sexy.

Meeting Ebbe

Of course, MissAllSunday Lemon’s braid makes it work with a simplicity and beauty that matches the look of the dress. I love the tendrils coming loose, which just adds a touch of romantic to the look. My skin is Inka Mexicola’s lovely offering for the Dressing Room Fusion. With luscious lips and a bit of sparkle to the shadow, it’s ideal for a summer visit to the biergarten to meet Ebbe (or at least see and be seen).

A Tourist at Home

A Tourist at Home

“I live in my own little world. But its ok, they know me here.” ~ Lauren Myracle

A Tourist at Home

I am so ready for a vacation. I have been running the website over at SL11B, posting the schedules and slurls and blog posts and then running around and enjoying the sights, being a tourist at home, as it were. I found the Oceania parcel that Harlequin Rhode and Nephelle Lanate built, which was a perfect site for showing off this amazingly glamorous mesh bathing suit from Zaara Kohime that she is featuring at Summerfest. In Zaara’s inimitable style, the suit is gathered in the middle in a vintage styling made modern and the silhouette, a mesh made by Zaara, is sexy but not crass. Zaara has also made beautiful bejeweled sandals with an Indian influence to be worn with Slink flat feet.

Belle Roussel is celebrating the summer as well with this luxe jewelry set she is offering at the Summer Fashion Festival. With Belle’s characteristic animated gems to represent light sparkling off the facets and her multiple attachments to allow versatility in styling, the pieces make my simple swimsuit more elegant. I am keeping the sun off with a hat by Vivienne Darcy at the Art in Hats even Quan Lavender organized to benefit Feed a Smile. The pairing of hats with photos was ingenious though I found even better was the idea a few designers had of being inspired by RL art, as they do at my museum’s Art in Bloom each year. A portion of each sale of a hat helps feed a child in Kenya so while you enjoy wearable art, you are also giving a child nourishment.

A Tourist at Home

My hair, which I love, is one of the newest from Shylah Honey and Tommy Fairplay. I really like the blonde texture but even more, I love how they made the mesh fall across the front in tendrils as real life hair does. It’s a very subtle difference from other mesh hair but I noticed it right away. Aida Ewing is offering this luminous skin at creation.jp and it’s lovely with a few innovative makeups for different sorts of looks, but I wore this one with its luscious pink lips and blush.

One Thousand and One

One Thousand and One

On Sun and Moon of palace cast thy sight,
Enjoy her flowerlike face, her fragrant light.
Thine eyes shall never see in hair so black
Beauty encase a brow so purely white.
The ruddy rosy cheek proclaims her claim,
Though fail her name whose beauties we indite.
As sways her gait, I smile at hips so big
And weep to see the waist they bear so slight.

~ “The Arabian Nights” by Sir Richard Burton (1850)

One Thousand and One

Genre is open this month with “Arabia” as its theme. I searched the four corners of the event to find you the best in exotic treasures to create the look for today in the spirit of role play. I piled on the treasures to share here, including this darling outfit from Nahtasha Uriza, who has paired a gathered halter with loose, flowing pants with a cut up the leg. The pattern is subtle, which is good because it allows lots of embellishment, which I took advantage of.

On my feet are Tiffy Vella’s exquisite slippers, bejeweled and beautiful. These alone are worth the trip to Genre if just to wear them and admire them. Then I decorated my skin with Chandra Masala’s lovely henna tattoo, which works on my Slink hands, nails painted by Ravenna Rossini’s great metallic nails.

One Thousand and One

Jewelry is essential for this look, and I really took advantage of attachment points. My bindi from Draconias Timeless includes an elaborate color change hud and additional jewels that lie over the brows. My nose ring from Amilia Zabaleta includes a tiny gem and my choker from Jalynne Ohmai has great textures for a more antiqued treasure look.

Truth Hawks’ newest long curly hair is ideal for this look. I can almost smell the cinnabar fragrance in his beautiful locks. Lumiya Rae (also know as Amesha Jewell) is offering this luscious seductive skin with all her characteristic artistry at Genre and I chose Constance Daehlie’s bold makeup to intensify my look. Poses from Nancoix Urquan from Genre give my dancer beautiful form and I posed under the gorgeous gazebo Kerryth Tarantal has made for Genre.

One Thousand and One

The Nap

“I count it as a certainty that in paradise, everyone naps.” ~ Tom Hodgkinson

The Nap

Paradise sounds good to me if it includes lazy afternoons on a sun-dappled lanai on a beach. Sway Dench has created the lovely hut and Balinese parasol I show here with the sitting cushions for a lovely beach scene, now available at Liaison Collective.

The Nap

With Zlyskritek’s ruffled bikini, I am enjoying the sun (including sunscreen) and taking a much needed rest from all the hustle and bustle of June in SL. I took a trip over to the Thrift Shop, where I found this bikini and the cute purple watch I wear, though really, on vacation, should I be wearing a watch at all? Senzati0n Domenitzo’s darling sandals, which she has at Fashion for Life, are an almost naked alternative to common flip flops and show off my pedicure from Zozicon nicely (which is another exclusive at Fashion for Life).

The Nap

My skin is Aida Ewing’s fresh face for Collabor88, which I am loving with a blue shadow I accidentally left on from Chandra Masala (a beautiful serendipity). My hair is Mina Nakamura’s newest for Chapter Four, a casually pulled back feminine look with her special textures and texture-change HUD, perfect for a relaxing summer… and a nap.

Why I Do Fashion for Life

Why I Do Fashion for Life

Today I offer up shots of my favorite spots on the Fashion for Life sims and an explanation of my involvement in the hopes you, my dear readers, become involved too.

Why I Do Fashion for Life

This year my involvement in Fashion for Life has been from an assistance angle. I stepped aside early in the process for RL reasons. I have not been a decision-maker for FFL this year. I didn’t choose the format, work on the website, or otherwise do PR. I handed over the general format I had developed and offered some suggestions to Cajsa Lilliehook and let her do her magic with Grace Loudon.

Why I Do Fashion for Life

I did do some background functions, like registering the designers’ payments, approving photos in Flickr, setting the SLurls—mostly tedious crap that necessarily has to be done to get to the real goal. It’s work I was familiar with—I had done it before. Sometimes you step in and do the dishes because someone else made the meal. Nevertheless, it took time and work, and I offered it freely because of my commitment to RFL in SL.

Why I Do Fashion for Life

I am not committed to this work because I have a personal intimate experience with cancer. I have no tragic story to tell about cancer. My parents are both alive and in good health. My husband and son are well. No one in my immediate family has cancer. And with the grace of God and better habits, we never will.

Why I Do Fashion for Life

This is why: cancer research has guided us how to adjust our lifestyles to increase our avoidance of cancer. We wear sunscreen religiously, we don’t smoke, we eat more fruits and vegetables (especially me), we get mammograms, pap smears, and colonoscopies on schedule, we exercise more regularly, we don’t drink a lot of alcohol, and we try to give ourselves over to a positive outlook on life that embraces life but doesn’t naively deny our own personal impact on our chances of having cancer.

Why I Do Fashion for Life

I can not emphasize enough that the research that has been done over the past 100 years into the etiology of cancer has been what has decreased our chances of suffering from cancer. In fact, millions of people are saved every year simply by the information available to us now about cancer-preventative habits. And that information comes from the research done by those who receive extensive grants from organizations like the American Cancer Society.

Why I Do Fashion for Life

So when I put time into RFL or I donate a sponsorship (as I did) or I purchase an item at Fashion for Life (which I did many times—darn gachas), I am investing in my own future. By giving a small donation to the American Cancer Society, I am helping slowly whack away at the many complex elements that contribute to the variety of cancers that exist. It’s that simple.

Why I Do Fashion for Life

If you think you don’t have a personal stake in Relay for Life or the American Cancer Society, think about it as I do and donate a little bit while having a little fun at Fashion for Life. Enjoy the beautiful sims and fashion, buy some items that kick some money to RFL, drop a few linden in the kiosks. Make an investment in your own future.

Why I Do Fashion for Life

Dappled

Dappled

I will find out where she has gone,
And kiss her lips and take her hands;
And walk among long dappled grass,
And pluck till time and times are done
The silver apples of the moon,
The golden apples of the sun.

~ William Butler Yeats

Dappled

Fashion for Life doesn’t just have modern dress, you can also find romantic pieces. That’s the thing with FFL—all designers willing to make the donation to have a store are accepted. This way, it’s a group effort by anyone willing to give to Relay for Life and American Cancer Society without exclusivity. So a beautiful old-fashioned dress like this one, which has been made by Bodza Mubble. She has combined a great mesh corset with system pieces and flexi to create this lovely look for fantasy or role play. I gamboled about in the parks at FFL Voyage, enjoying Jara Lowell’s lovely build.

Dappled

My skin is Aida Ewing’s new gorgeous work for Collabor88 with lovely brows, expressive eyes and of course, the gorgeous lips she always has. My hair is Mirja Mills’ contribution for Fashion for Life, which is a great piece for casual wear or RP, and it works great with the pretty headdress from Bodza that comes with the dress.

I want to note that Mirja is a sim sponsor for FFL with a huge donation, and she filled a ridiculous number of RFL vendors with her hair without a peep of complaint or confusion, each one kicking back a portion to RFL. She has always been enthusiastic and supportive of Fashion for Life, and for this, I am so grateful personally. I have If nothing else, buy a hair from her at Fashion for Life because her stuff is awesome and so is she!

Come and Gone

Come and Gone

Just as we lose hope
she ambles in,
a late guest
dragging her hem
of wildflowers,
her torn
veil of mist,
of light rain,
blowing
her dandelion
breath
in our ears;
and we forgive her,
turning from
chilly winter
ways,
we throw off
our faithful
sweaters
and open
our arms.

~ “Spring” by Linda Pastan

Come and Gone

I might get warm here finally. We are suffering the last few days of spring with rain and 55 but the flowers are planted and seem to be thriving. The Meyer lemon plant Eshi gave me for my birthday is blooming. (OMG, BEST smelling blossoms EVER.) My bike is out and about. Spring has finally come!

In celebration, I am wearing a look that is not promoting anything really except I like it. Hadarah Steamer has a great little store with mesh and jewelry, mostly RP-related items, but her textures and pieces are excellent and everything is very inexpensive. I loved this green dress, especially with the gorgeous belt and arm cuffs that come with it. This is chic, no matter where you go! Anemysk Karu is offering these gorgeous heels at Fashion for Life. (See? I slipping something in!)

Come and Gone

Queue Marlowe brought out this great up-do a couple weeks ago and I love how she piles it on. Queue, who has never been one who fears abundance, gives us curls on curls, with her distinctive curl textures with great high and low lights. Matched with one of Umazuma Metaluna’s distinctively gorgeous skins and new mesh eyes from Jale Jules (which seem to show lighter in my windlight), it’s a look to pass from Spring to Summer.

Leaving on a Jet Plane

Leaving on a Jet Plane

So kiss me and smile for me,
tell me that you’ll wait for me,
hold me like you’ll never let me go.

~ “Leaving on a Jet Plane” by John Denver

Leaving on a Jet Plane

The sims at Fashion for Life are all about travel, so of course some of the designers jumped in. Nancoix Urquan chipped in to the theme with a set of poses complete with a suitcase prop that has texture change. Of course, everyone is taking photos on Troy Vogel’s sim with this set because it’s so perfect. Troy built the sim despite a personal RL move, and I love him and his bears to pieces for his generous contribution to Fashion for Life.

Sysy Chapman has always been a big supporter of Fashion for Life as well, and she is offering this great dress in several version with a portion of each sale going to Relay for Life/American Cancer Society. With her great bright textures and sexy silhouettes, she makes my travelling girl look fresh and sexy. With little espadrilles from Freya Olivieri and jewelry from JuneMonteiro and Moonsoul, I have Fashion for Life covered.

Leaving on a Jet Plane

Don’t you hate the women who come off the plane looking fresh and rested, not a crumple in their clothes, not harried or tired? That would not be me. I would be the one posing on the tarmac and missing my connection regardless of how great I look. My skin from Inka Mexicola gives me that tan traveled look with a high-fashion makeup for glamorous traveling. Add this great feathered hair from Alice Demonia, which she is offering at the Thrift Shop, half off (in price, not style) with a great HUD for texture changes. I’ll catch the next flight out.

Leaving on a Jet Plane

‘Cause I’m leaving on a jet plane,
don’t know when I’ll be back again.
Oh, babe, I hate to go

Everything Must Go

Everything Must Go!

Everything must go on every floor
Markdowns you’ve never seen before
Everything that isn’t bolted down is up on the block and open for offer
We need to travel light on this journey
And we won’t need all these things where we’re going

~ “Everything Must Go” by BNLX

Everything Must Go!

Fashion for Life is on and EVERYTHING MUST GO! Get down there NOW for great fashions and skins and jewelry and shoes and hair! Not sure the hard sell is going to work but let me try a little soft sell with this gorgeous outfit from Dainie Fraina. I have been a too-secret fan of Dainie’s—I really love her clothing, which is tinged with African and in this case, Indian influences. Her HUD is easy to use for texture change on this outfit and allows separate changes to the top, skirt and hair flower. I love the beat of the djemba every time a change is made. A portion of every sale is donated to Relay for Life.

Freya Olivieri is one of the sim sponsors and she has always been a strong supporter of Fashion for Life. She is offering several pieces with 50% donation to the American Cancer Society on top of her generous donation to be a sim sponsor. The gorgeous earrings I wear are just the tip of the iceberg as far as the beautiful pieces Freya is offering, and her pieces are top notch, from the design of the mesh to the textures to interface and scripts.

Everything Must Go!

I wimped out and put on one of my favorite newer skins, Ria, from Shyla Diggs. I just dig Shyla’s makeups and the way it fits my shape. Belleza skins never seem to go out of style. My hair is Queue Marlowe’s very newest, a flexi ponytail on a mesh head piece. And of course, it comes with Queue’s handy texture change HUD and great textures!

Martha My Dear

Martha My Dear

Martha my dear
Though I spend my days in conversation
Please remember me
Martha my love don’t forget me
Martha my dear

~ “Martha My Dear” by the Beatles

Martha My Dear

This cheerful Beatles’ tune popped up and made a perfect title for this beauty, who I have named Martha. Fashion for Life opens today, featuring the work of over 150 designers, with donations from a portion of every single sale going to RFL. Because of RFL SL’s rules, the designers were required to load their items into individual vendors, one at a time, so you had better shop til you drop to make it worth their while. (It’s open two weeks. Take a sim a night or day and you’ll have seen everything and been able to explore these gorgeous sims too.)

The sims are, as I have mentioned, gorgeous. I took today’s photos on Pluto Fairey’s beautiful sim, which is sponsored in part by LeeZu Baxter. And check out the dress LeeZu is offering as her exclusive. Available in eight combinations, this down-right sexy dress with its bold graphic print will put you ahead of the crowd, especially with this amazing silhouette on a proprietary mesh piece. LeeZu has filled the store with items, all in the RFL vendors, so buy buy buy! (And make sure you click the flowers—there is a dance pose in them. I will be spending any time at FFL dancing in these flowers.)

Martha My Dear

My goal was to be top to bottom FFL content and I managed it. Start at the top with hair from Shylah Honey and Tommy Fairplay. With their great texture change HUD I was able to get this great two-colored look that matches my dress. My skin comes from LadyLuy and includes a ton of makeup options including blush. My eyes are from a set being sold by Marisela Bouchard, who generously paid for two shops so she could sell skins and clothing. My jewelry is offered as the exclusives by Sebastian Dionysus and Plurabelle Laszlo (who is also offering some darling shoes that I somehow have to get into the blog). Sasy Scarborough leapt in at the last minute to grab a store and is offering some darling nails, one of which is just great colors (no decoration), which is great for many outfits. My shoes are from Senzati0n Domenitzo, who is now creating for Slink feet (yay!) and is sponsoring another sim. And my elegant poses are a set that AnneMarit Jarvinen is offering in her shop.
