Living Grandly

I’m reading Special Topics in Calamity Physics right now and rather enjoying it, so I snagged one of Dad’s pithy ideas for my quote. I hope you’re living grandly as I am. Biography or not, I’ll look good. Start with my slinky party dress from Lisanna Lauria. She has this at District 5 in several colors for girls who like to go out look chic. With a criss-crossed back, it’s really sexy. Paired with wedge sandals from Antonia Millar, also from District 5, which include a great texture-change HUD for different choices, and AvaGardner Kungler’s bracelet for the Dressing Room Fusion.

My sexy sensuous skin is Inka Mexicola’s offer for the Dressing Room Fusion. I love the eye make-up, the sensuous lips, the darling nose. For the price, it’s quite a look. I wore Kavar Cleanslate’s brilliant updo for the Arcade, choosing to tempt you with the rare, a light brown streaked with rainbow colors. I didn’t think it would go but boy, I like this look a lot—the soft sexy skin from Inka and the beautiful locks from Kavar. This is the way to live life grandly, regardless of Magnificent Reason!

Lauren Bacall recently passed away and I wanted to do a tribute look for her but who can possibly replicate such beauty? Only she could be herself, because it was her soul that gave light to her elegance. Her famous quote is a perfect sassy elegant rejoinder and encapsulates the persona she embodied.

For this dress from LeeZu Baxter, I wanted to find an elegant, old school look but I knew I couldn’t pull off Lauren Bacall, so I proceeded as seemed natural. LeeZu has never been afraid of pushing the boundaries of what she can do in SL, pulling in elements of everything at her disposal—textures, mesh, prims, and old fashioned style—to create her very haute fashion. This time she has mesh layers to show a very elegant gown with a lace overlay and then a great filmy flexi skirt at the bottom. With the brooch at the rib and the medallion flung over the shoulder, it’s sexy and beautiful, especially with her complex textures.

A look this complicated doesn’t need a lot else going on, so I opted for small earrings from Krystal Jenkins, which show well with my new hair from TOmmy Fairplay. This is a men’s hair, but it looks amazing on women too, especially worn with this gorgeous skin from Umazuma Metaluna from her collection for the Arcade. With deep berry lips and a gorgeously framed eye, the look is pure glamour.

Put to the Test

The Arcade is coming soon and all the sneak previews are starting to emerge. Trace Osterham made this fabulous collection of carnival games, the kind you put your hand on or pull a lever and find out what your personality trait is. They have been scripted for one or two people (depending on the topic) and include sounds and glowing flashing lights. The rare is, of course, the fortune teller, who gives you a cryptic fortune you wear and read. The graphics on the pieces are amazing and Trace did these in mesh himself, so you won’t find them anywhere else. Get one or get all for your SL rec room or carnival! (Please note I rated “The Devil” below. Maybe THAT’s why I scored “Hot Stuff” on the other one–see above.)

Beanster Potato has a few brands she makes content for, all of them sporty and fun with great textures and versatility. This dress is one of her 20.Five brand, priced low and designed for casual wear. Beanster uses prepurchased mesh for these pieces, and she makes no secret of that. The advantage of buying them is in her great textures and the texture-change HUD she includes with every piece. I wore the dress, clicked to the turquoise I liked, and then the shoes, and clicked to my silver. Done!

Mirja Mills just put out this darling medium-length ‘do with a barrette holding back a lock of hair. As always, the hair comes with a HUD to allow quick choice of your favorite hair tone. Lumiya Rae is selling this lovely skin for girls who like beautifully defined features and pretty puckery lips. Appliers are available!

Grace

A beautiful look for the beautiful notion of “grace.” My dress is one of GraceHaddington’s newest, a beautiful joining of two mesh pieces to create a whole look . It comes with a texture-change HUD so you can choose between three color ways of the texture, and with the straps up the side and the leather inset, it skirts the border between pretty and sexy. I am wearing these strappy wedges from Lokii Violet at District 5, which also include a great texture-change HUD with a bunch of choices for the straps and the metal. The pretty bejeweled choker is one Maxi Gossamer made for a recent fair and I hope is now in her store. It includes color change for the larger and smaller gems for mix and match.

The ladies in Skin Addiction spent all day yesterday talking about this skin from Umazuma Metaluna. It’s a huge hit because of its beautiful features, freckled skin, full juicy lips and wonderful body. If any of this appeals at all, get over to Fantasy Collective and get it! My lovely braid is Truth Hawks’ newest hair and ideal for a lovely pulled back look. The braid is, of course, rigged so it moves wonderfully with the avatar and provides versatility for many looks.

I heard Corinne Bailey Rae singing this song as I was putting this outfit together and it seemed fitting. The look is blonde and cheerful, like the original spunky blonde who popularized the song, Doris Day. I start with the belted blouse and flirty skirt from Ivy Burner, which she is selling at District 5 in the Hamptons. A color change HUD for the top allowed me to choose the right belt color from six. My shoes are also available in the Hamptons, from Kenadeecole, also with a texture change HUD with a plethora of color choices. And my handbag is a darling piece from Iokko Molto, also from District 5.

Truth Hawks has come out with this new lovely long ‘do with optional bangs in two versions with his great texture-change HUD and beautiful textures. It’s a perfect style for this outfit and of course, the tones go great with Shyla Diggs’ skin for the Arcade, a gorgeous example of the set of ten skins she will be offering for chance in a few days.

My Perfect Vacation

My perfect vacation would involve a few things: a cozy spot, solitude, and a collection of books. (I might throw in a fridge with water and a fresh supply of cantaloupe, spinach and heirloom tomatoes too plus a good music collection.) Sway Dench made my favorite kind of spot with her little boho wagon for The Liaison Collaborative—a cozy spot for one or two. With a variety of poses built into the seat and the porch and stairs outside, it’s a fun prop or playhouse, and it makes a perfect set for a cozy reading getaway.

Imagine being curled up in this cute little wagon with your favorite book (today’s being Alison Lurie’s Foreign Affairs), some great music on the turntable (Andrew Bird’s “Pulaski at Night”), and a cute comfy outfit. My dress is part of a full ensemble from Moonbubble Gothly that she is selling at District 5. I stole the artsy cute dress with top and skirt and abstract texture for the look. My shoes are Lindsey Warwick’s darling heels that she sold for 21 Shoe (which is available in other colors). Piled around me, of course, are Murakami books, made by MiaSnow Myriam, who is also a fan!

Sometimes fresh air and quiet contemplation is needed, and then I sit out on this chair from Sway Dench that she made for the Australian theme for The Dreaming Tree. With several single AND couples poses and texture change on the pillows, it’s a decorator’s dream. The modern angles of the chair are offset by the cushions so this can mix in with a very modern or eclectic décor easily.

I know Shylah Honey made this hair for Fantasy Gacha Carnival but it’s good for every day wear, especially with its pulled back prettiness. Once this gacha is done at the Carnival, it will be in the regular store, so you haven’t missed it. My pretty skin is Sawsan Secretspy’s special for Designer Circle, sold at a discount for the event. And psst, but Krystal Jenkins put her jewelry on sale a couple days ago and I think the sale is still on. I snagged these brainy girl earrings for a steal.

Love in the Time of Cholera

I’ve been holding on to this quote for a bit for a look that makes me fall in love, and this one did. It’s the colors of the dress from Spooky Mistwallow, and the style. Spooky includes a HUD that allows switches between 6 colors on the dress and 6 on the skirt, all complimentary for the palette you choose, and I loe this brown set. The style of the dress is flirty and soft and sophisticated, especially belted at the waist.

Well maybe it’s the shoes really that I really love. Strappy and sexy, they are one of two pairs that Eku Zhong is selling for 21 Shoe, and they are ONLY ON SALE TODAY, the 21st, so do not delay in getting them. Eku is a quiet one, making her sexy shoes and softly putting them out for shoe warriors to snatch up and sex up the grid.

It’s the skin. That is key here. Umazuma Metaluna has outdone herself on this one. The tone of the skin, the freckles, the features, the beautiful full lips, groomed eyebrows, gentle blush. I gasped when I saw myself. This may not be a look for everyone. It’s certainly not your typical dolly face. Uma has imbued this face with character and beauty.

It might be the eyes. I have been showing a lot of Constance Daehlie’s eyes and makeup and I am completely in love with these dark brown peepers. It’s hard to do a brown eye right, and she pulls it off by giving light to the eyes.

Then perhaps it’s the hair. I loved this short cut from Miu Edman when it premiered at Hair Fair and ran to get the brown for this ensemble. I personally LOVE short hair on women and wish I could pull it off myself. It’s a great style to show off these ginormous earrings from Donatela Couturier.

How come I connote cutting edge, crazy fashion with Wicca Merlin? Maybe it’s her outre modeling and photography, her grasp of the possibilities of fashion rather than the realities, her desire to poke at the dark side and come out with something beautiful. I knew Wicca did poses but I just recently found out she also makes fashion, so I had to show you something she has created.

Her Abigail dress is testament to her very unique style. She cleverly covers a dress with a sculptural silhouette with a muted black on black modern brocade, allow the shape to be the boldest part of the look. Then she pairs it with a clever veiled hat with a big red flower and tendrils, like a modern flower arrangement on the head. Finally, zipped high heels (I always imagine a zipper or safety pin somewhere on Wicca) with spikes (of course) complete the look. I accented with red cuffs from Ivy Burner from the gacha at her store. (IM me to trade other colors!)

I did a combo on my face with skin and lipstick from JunoMonteiro and then eyebrows from Eleri Catlyn. I was going for blue brows to make a crazier look but I didn’t want to detract from the hat so I ended up with the dark brows, which I rather like with this skin. The bold lips Juno includes with her skins are luscious and give high fashion and energy to the look. I went with the blue option on Queue Marlowe’s color HUD to change up this look a bit and lend some more of that high fashion energy to Wicca’s outfit.

A Day Away

I live with a workaholic. At times I can be a workaholic. (Go figure.) A little dress down day for shopping or enjoying the weather or running errands is sometimes much needed—a time to decompress. I put together this look for such a day. Start with the blazer/top combo that Jesydream is offering at District 5. It’s casual yet tailored—not a grungy old sweatshirt—ideal for me. I’m not that kind of vacationing woman. My mesh skirt from Juliette Westerburg, which she has at Uber, is the piece to go with this look—sassy and short but not too flimsy. Brings the formalness of the blazer down. My high heels from Tatyana Ultsch, also at District 5, are fun slip-ons with a darling bow and great texture. Sunami Beck offers this luxe handbag at Uber and sunglasses from Jonas Acanthus are just the right accessory.

My full locks are pulled into a fishtail braid over my shoulder courtesy of Truth Hawks, who offers this great style in all his typical colors. My skin is Monicuzza Babenco’s gorgeous offer at The Dressing Room. I have not worn her skins as of late and was delighted to come back to one and find it fit so wonderfully to my shape. I have been showing a lot of Constance Daehlie’s eyes and makeup lately, if you hadn’t already picked up on that. I am really enjoying what she is doing with her work. Her colors are clear and crisp without cartoonishness.

Sonata

I named this one Sonata because I was preparing this blog entry while I was at the House of Sakura, listening to the selections Lynn Mimistrobell chose for the evening. Every Sunday night, Lynn hosts a salon where she presents music, typically classical, and gives a lesson about the music, discussing its history, particularities and why she especially likes it. This evening she presented two Beethoven sonatas, hence the name of the blog. It’s an incredibly relaxing and enjoyable way to spend a Sunday evening, and Lynn clearly works very hard on her presentation.

The idea of a sonata suits this dress well as it’s a structured long piece of played music. Poulet Koenkamp has structured this dress based on classical notions of an evening gown—long, elegant, elaborate. Poulet has made this mesh gown with a beautiful satin texture, embroidered with gold in this instance (she has several colors of the gown) and hemmed in black to echo the black waist.

AvaGardner Kungler’s gorgeous necklace for La Metallique Fair brings out the richness in the embroidery. I couldn’t resist showing this piece, which is stunning with its almost art deco setting and large gems. My gold shoes are Tiffy Vella’s lovely stilettos for La Metallique, with color change gems on the decoration. I love the texture. She is offering several colors but this is the exclusive to the fair.

Shylah Honey made this beautiful long hair for the Fantasy Collective. TOmmy Fairplay recently cooked up some new textures, which they have incorporated into this hair. With feathered bangs creating a coy sexy look, it frames the new face from Shyla Diggs’ latest skin beautifully. Shyla is presenting this version of the skin at the Liaison Collective for their Route 66 theme. With a deep tan, it’s perfect for girls on the road in the summer sunshine. It’s also lovely for an evening out.
