Out of the Blue

Out of the Blue

Out of the blue, you waltz back into my heart….

Out of the Blue

A pretty summer dress, sleeveless and elegant, is what a girl needs for a night out dancing. This lovely little dress from Sissy Pessoa fits the bill. With a sculpty top and skirt, it would almost seem it might not work but Sissy has built in all sorts of win with various sized tops (I put the XL on first by accident and flipped til I realized she had several tops to accommodate different sized avatars, which is a great move.) The skirt comes with and without an AO so you can try a different way of moving or not. The textures are, in Sissy’s usual manner, beautiful and stylish. She has her finger on fashionable prints.

Out of the Blue

My skin is the glowing and glorious new Audrey from Diarmiud Miklos, coming out on Saturday. I showed a different skin tone a couple days ago. Seeing it in tanned is a whole different story. The lips are bee-stung and beautiful, the eyes gloriously colored with ethereal shadows. My earrings are Rama Anatine’s offering for Accessory Fair, a loosely Egyptian-symbol-themed gold pair with a beautifully textured blue stone.

I have been showing you shapes from Freedom Parx/GM Nikolaidis for a couple months now under the name “Freestyle.” GM has opened a store for poses now and rebranded under the name “Fluke.” I am showing a handful of his poses here.

Out of the Blue

When I’m just about over you, you tear me apart.
With your smooth talking words, and promises from yesterday.
With the sound of your voice and the things that you say.

Meg

Meg

Her name was Theresa but everyone calls her “Meg,” because she is so much like nutmeg—brown, spicy and warm—and she smells faintly of spices. That’s because she works at the spice store around the block from me—one of my favorite places. She knows cooking back and forth, taught to her by her gramma, and she gave me the best recipe for banana bread that has among it’s spices.. well, what else but nutmeg.

Meg

Meg is wearing a darling retro skirt from Maya Levane, something she picked up at a vintage store topped by a comfy tank from moonbubble Gothly (whose store she loves). She loves jewelry and she has been to the Accessory Fair several times. She has a great set from Mouse Mimistrobell on—necklace, earrings and bangles. The set is as eclectic and funky as Meg herself. A pretty little ring from AvaGardner Kungler punctuates her look.

Meg

Monicuzza Babenco’s newest skin is an ideal visage for Meg with its sweet nutmeg tone and beautiful glow. The lips and eyes on this skin are sublime, incredibly attractive and sensual. Her hair is a beauty from Truth Hawks with its woven-in braid and streaks (which I changed to auburn for subtlety). Her toes are gloriously rendered by Siddean Munro in a pair of Siddean’s newest flat sandals.

I Dig Egypt

I Dig Egypt

The Accessory Fair to benefit Relay for Life opened this weekend with an elaborate scene straight out of Indiana Jones. Between the catacombs and the mummies everywhere, it has the feel of a movie-set fantasy—you can feel the sand under your feet and marvel at the artistry around you amidst a “dig.” (Though an archaeologist her salt would not let you step one foot in a real dig.)

But let’s face it—that’s not really Egypt. The real Egypt is a much more exciting and interesting place. It’s the home of a 21st-century revolution—the same kind of youth-initiated revolution we saw in the US and Europe in the 60s, at the fall of the Berlin wall in the late 80s, and in Tiananmen Square in the 90s. The revolution is spreading across the area, and we should be excited for them—they are finding self-government and throwing off the shackles of post-colonial corruption and dictatorship.

I Dig Egypt

A Muslim woman in Egypt won’t be wearing skimpy clothes with cats-eye eyeliner–that’s Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra in a movie from the 60s. Your average young woman in Egypt is probably wearing a hijab (which I don’t show here) and a modest but pretty outfit, consisting of a tunic and slacks. This ensemble, from Syngen Sohmers, is a perfect example (and should be because she’s Egyptian). The beauty of fabrics and fashion is not lost on this outfit—the fabric is richly textured with gold accents. Women in Egypt are just as interested in how they look—they just don’t want to show a lot of skin.

I Dig Egypt

It’s the perfect chance to show the beautiful face on the newest skin from Diarmuid Miklos, which is coming out next weekend. With its subtle tones and beautiful makeups (a lot of them running in the pinks, though you can’t see it in this skin), this is bound to be a new smash for Diarmiud. He includes with this set a sculpty ponytail, perfect if you want to keep arc low and fashion high. Mocksoup Graves’ makeups suit his faces really well, and I wear a little tint on my lips from her.

I am also thrilled with Reghan Straaf’s offerings at the Accessory Fair, specifically a set with an “Egyptian theme.” They are truly a treasure to be found in their “Dig.” Reghan has been making beautiful hats forever but now she’s turned her sights to jewelry and I am blown away. I love these malachite earrings with their excellent stone and gold textures. And the bracelet is .. well charming. Each little charm represents a sign of ancient Egyptian culture and while they seem cliched, they are still powerful symbols for the Egyptians who believe in their country, their culture and their future.

Around the World at RFL

As I have mentioned about a million times, the RFL Clothing Fair sims are built around a theme of traveling around the world. What is even more interesting is that you really ARE traveling around the world when you visit this fair. Contributors for this endeavor come from the four corners of the globe, amazingly. As you touch down in each sim, you will find contributors from that very country occupying the sim. Go to Rio, they are all having Festival; go to Tokyo, they are speaking in Japanese; go to Paris and the gentle murmur of French can be heard; and I won’t even tell you what they are doing on the Melbourne sim, but I can guarantee it involves lots of boisterousness.

Around the World with RFL

For example, morea Decosta has contributed this very sexy dress whose proceeds go entirely to RFL. With its long flowing sleeves but dangerously short skirt and quick access wrap style, it’s perfect for the lady who wants to like to wrap up in silken sensuousness. morea is a lovely European lady who likes to make women feel and look sexy. And she is helping support RFL, so give her some goodness back at the Paris sim.

Around the World with RFL

I travel to another part of the world with this lovely skin, made by milok Hermit from Korea. I always struggle trying to find skins that are not sparkly Caucasian or Malibu Barbie, for that matter. milok has a variety of skins that are not Barbie-like, all at a reasonable price. I was absolutely taken with this skin, which for once eliminates the fold in the eyelid, making the skin truly Pan Asian. The earrings are pretties I got from Anemysk Karu at the Accessory Fair.

Finally, the boots are brand spankin’ new (pun intended just a bit as you will see), just out by Oct Oakleaf. They are available in two versions—regular and 2.0. Regular employs good old invisiprims, but the 2.0 uses the new alpha layer for the leg to create the invisibility needed to jam your poor mesh foot into that pointy toe so you can teeter on that needle-thin heel (all in the name of fashion). Oct has also scripted in the ability to show or remove that seemingly innocuous little strapped-on buckle there (which is really an ankle cuff that is enabled for use with the Lockmeister and Lockguard sets of scripts, if you have such an inkling). It comes with a pair of cuffs I am wearing which are also fashionably sculpted and functionally scripted. I will not be sending you to a ponygirl store this time, however, so feel safe.

Lilly for RFL

This next week or two you will probably only find me blogging RFL Clothing Fair items. That’s because the Fair has over 150 creators donating their time and talents to raising money for RFL (Relay for Life). Each one of the participants has had to pay to be in this fair AND are donating at least FOUR items for which all proceeds go directly to RFL. It’s one of the best charity models I have personally seen in SL—everyone benefits. Kudos to Nevar Lobo and Amethyst Starosin!

What is remarkable as you walk around the sims, however, is considering how many 100s of people contributed time and effort and talent to this cause. From Grace Loudon’s absolutely exquisite New Delhi sim to Shaunathan Sprocket’s brilliant London with Trafalgar Square to the kind assistance of people like Samara Barzane and Phoenix Ember,  I am just blown away by how many people put effort into this, and all in the name of cancer research–around the world. (Even though it’s the American Cancer Society, Poppy Zabelin told me at SLCC the monies are actually distributed to worthy research and needs around the world. So if you are not American, this money still probably ends up in your country.)

As you walk around the sims, remember this. Click those RFL Vendors (which were a pain to load for the designers), and remember that 500L you are spending here or there is another $2 for cancer research. Its two bucks towards a few moments of pleasure for you and another step towards helping people with cancer. And please make sure you visit the RFyre store, where my dear friend, Raven Pennyfeather, has a put up a tribute to her father, who just finished a year of chemotherapy. I have been on the phone with her every day through this, and it’s not an easy battle, but worth the fight.

My note about lag: lag is a big factor at the Fair. Please do your best to reduce your script usage when entering the sims. Scripts can be contained in many prim items, like resizable or color changing shoes or hair, AOs, radar detectors, and bling. What appears to be an excess prim issue is REALLY a script issue. Once you remove those prims, you remove those script and the lag. You can also reduce lag on your own end by reducing your draw distance, unchecking avatar imposters under avatar rendering in the custom area of the graphics tab in preferences, and reducing your own ARC. You don’t have to walk around bald and shoeless–you just have to think about what you can do to help the issue. If you want more information about reducing lag, read Taturo Nino’s article for Massively, Gwenyth Llewellyn’s blog for Ana Lutetia, and Joel Foner’s blog.

Finally, when any sim has 50 plus avatars buying things, there will be lag. It’s that simple. The builders, vendors, and planners have done everything they can to reduce lag. Please have patience, plan to shop in off hours, and return again and again.

Lilly for RFL

Delora Starbrook, my lovely friend, will be selling this camisk among 3 other donated items, to benefit RFL. I could go on about the beauty of her textures, the prettiness of the pink with purple and symbolism of it, and how she has several other colors available for sale as well—but I won’t. Instead I will explain that Delora and I met through RFL and while it’s been a hassle for her to participate (PG sims and she has beyond PG content–she has had to edit a lot of her ads to fit the requirements), she has done so happily and sweetly. (Right, Delora?)

Lilly for RFL

I am wearing under this camisk Lorac Farella’s newest skin and honestly, one of the loveliest she has ever produced. Lorac recently had the opportunity to upgrade her equipment and it’s made all the difference. Her Emotional set, which she produced at the request of Mirja Mills, is a complete set but also includes bruised and disciplined skins for role players (not my cup of tea but for RP, you need something). Lorac’s skins are artistic, subtle, mature, and sexy. Her skin tones are revamped so that her darker skins look luscious and her lighter skins are absolutely elegant and gorgeous. I can’t say enough.

Lilly for RFL

Speaking of Mirja Mills, check out her hair. I bought the fat pack for this one because it’s just a lovely style—wild and restrained all at once. To be honest, my hair once looked like this in RL (not the color but the style), and I would be glad to go back. It’s sexy and soft.

Finally we have Zaara Kohime’s exquisite jewelry, right now being sold at the Accessory Fair. You have seen a fair bit of her work in my blogs, dear readers, but I couldn’t pass up on getting this lot and adorning Delora’s beautiful work with Zaara’s equally amazing work.

Sun and Sand

It’s cold and rainy outside. It’s time for a trip to the beach.

Sun and Sand

A perfect outfit for this fantasy is Opal Lei’s new bikini and sarong set. Known for her beautiful mermaids, Opal has tried to emerge from the water and put her beautiful textures on humans too. She has done a darn good job. In this set, she provides both a Merkini and a Bettakini (you see the Merkini here). Merkini has a simple scale texture while Bettakini has a fin texture overlaid on the scale texture. Both come with the package so you can choose what you prefer. The colors are rich, the work impeccable.

Sun and Sand

I wore a bikini actually to show off my beach skin, a new one from Aradhana Voight. Known best for her beautiful saris and elaborate Indian-influenced jewelry, Aradhana has ventured into the skin trade and her gifts serve her well here. I will say I tried several hairs with these skins and opted for one of Truth Hawk’s darker colors—Aradhana’s skins need the deeper color to match the dark eyebrows and make-ups. Make sure you find Aradhana’s store on the New Delhi sim, which she is generously sponsoring for the RFL Clothing Fair, starting March 13. Make it worth her while and pick up a few of her gorgeous skins. I include pretty jewelry from Narita Rayna, being sold at this year’s Accessory Fair.

Sun and Sand

Finally take a look at my tooties. Maris Kanto has come out with another pair of gorgeous toe shoes with their versatile huds for changing the color of 3 different elements of the shoe, the skin, and the nails plus the hardware. They do everything but dance for you!

The Glitter of the Red Carpet

As you wander around SL and see so many beautiful evening dresses, don’t you wonder why you don’t have so many in real life? And then I realize it’s because I don’t attend the Oscars every year, nor do I go to the Golden Globes, Cannes or even the local charity ball.

The Glitter of the Red Carpet

In SL, however, every day is Oscar day, especially when you have the kind of designers that make dresses like these. I pulled this out of my extensive Oscar night collection. Nicky Ree, as is well known, is the goddess of such dresses (among several on SL, but she rates as a higher level goddess). This beautiful dress, edged with embroidery on the hem and embroidered around the waist, would be an ideal selection—elegant and classy.

The Glitter of the Red Carpet

And every Oscar star needs a set of jewelry loaned to her. In this case, TJake Kearny has provided the jewels. Hand pieced on a live avatar (as opposed to made on a jewelry-making machine or pieced on himself), this choker is a glittering wonder of tiny prims, each scripted with little rotating images so the diamonds appear to glitter and flash light, eliminating the need for bling. The bracelets and earrings are a perfect accompaniment. He is at the Accessory Fair with a free little gift for people, so check it out.
