I have no resolutions to share with you today. Get my holiday decorations cleaned up, start working on eating healthier after a tasty holiday (I think I made about 500 cookies all by myself), knit up all the yarn I bought during sales, make it through the winter—those are pretty much my ideas for this after holiday time. Today is the last day of FROST and I had to sneak in one last peek with this dress from Cruella Pennell, which I really liked. With a belted waist and a wraparound style, it’s a gorgeous coat dress that would do well for a girl-next-door look like this or something more gothic. With Senzati0n Domenitzo’s boots and a pretty branched necklace from Aikea Rieko, it’s a lovely look for exploring sims.

Sawsan Secretspy’s lovely applier for the Catwa heads is her featured skin at the Makeover Room and it’s a lovely look for the Catwa Jessica head. The eyeliner and pale pink lipstick are built into the skin so I am sure you could apply other makeups but I forewent any for this fresh, natural look. My hair is Mina Nakamura’s style for the new Fameshed, a lovely pulled-back look with bangs.

I love this new song from Courtney Barnett, all punk and funny with a sweet touch of girly. I thought it suited this look, a lot of which I got at Thrift Shop 8.0. First, Cruella Pennell has made this fabulous dress from two different mesh templates, but she has made so much of these templates, one can hardly even think of what may have been made before. She has finitely and exquisitely textured these pieces with a pattern and leather insets. Putting the two together seems an effortless decision and pulling them together with such great texture work is ingenious. Best part? They are discounted at Thrift Shop 8.0! With these fabulous little booties from Senzati0n Domenitzo also from Thrift Shop, it’s a look that falls together.

I wanted to up the gothiness of the look without going overboard so Inka Mexicola’s beautiful skin for OMGacha combined with deep dark lips from Constance Daehlie that she is featuring at AnyBody plus Constance’s dark eyes makes a beautiful face, pale and glowing with the contrasting darkness without being chalky or dead. Kavar Cleanslate’s beautiful new ‘do for Collabor88 with a side-pulled ponytail and his fabulous new textures completes this beautiful gothy look.

The Apoplectic Post Apocalypse

Genre’s theme this month is post apocalyptic, so I threw together a look from all the great stuff offered that is fierce and sexy, hoping I could share with you a little post apocalyptic style. Top to bottom, items that are from Genre: wild red hair from Cruella Pennell, who includes two different shaved heads that are tintable if you need to go wild. Then there is a “tiara” from Photos Nikolaidis that I tinted myself to match more with my outfit. A little necklace from Plurabelle Laszlo, a remake of a great bottlecap necklace she had done years ago (I know because it was my first happiness from Bliensen + Maitai). My bracer from Discovering Destiny includes vials of.. something and the ever-important key.

I rezzed the trailer from Jack Mondegreen and somehow my photo platform transformed itself into the Wastelands and bizarre characters of dubious provenance wandered across my scene. Soon I was engaging in chase scenes and various other feats of survival, using poses from Nancoix Urquan. Boots from Keishi Roo, of course, give me the edge and  the skirt from Spooky Mistwallow (yes, tough girls can wear skirts, especially when they wield a nail studded baseball bat from Draconias Timeless). All of the above is from Genre. Capture was in order with a great pose set from Kirsty Oherlihy (not available at Genre but essential to this narrative). I gave Z a run for his money!

I am wearing Paul Lapointe and Bastchild Lotus’ new corset, which includes a great texture change HUD with a ton of color options for the leather and the metal studs. Clicking this look in took a bit of time because I had so many choices! Paul makes a variety of sizes of mesh to suit your body proportions. If you prefer to be a bit more busty, he gives you that option. Any piece from L&B is chock full of options and is made of 100% original and well-rigged mesh. I can’t speak highly enough of their work.

I want to point out I am wearing the mesh Venus body from Belleza. I have done a few things with it to complete my look. I clicked on the push up breasts to fill in that corset, and I reduced my shape size. I still can’t understand why folks resist messing around with their shape a little to get the look they want to achieve with their mesh body. This is the fitted mesh we all wanted for so long! Let’s use it! I reduced my breast size slightly to fit the higher boobs from the shape into this corset and voila!

The Seven Year Itch

My seventh rez day crept up on me today. I didn’t realize it until Stephen pointed it out to me, and then I blushed, realizing it was true. I have done the math and realize I am in my prime! (If there are four sunrises and sunsets per 24 hours, then it would be four days per 365 days, 365 days per year would make me 28 years old. I’ll take it!) I have enjoyed some celebrations already. Jaynine Scarborough, the wondrous amazing voice from Berlin, sang me an over-the-top Happy Rezday at her show that brought tears to my eyes. I reminisced with IronGut McAllister about when he DJ’d my first rez day. I got an amazing poem written for me. As Jaynine would sing, “It’s wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!” And despite the title, I don’t seem to be going anywhere.

In my seven years in SL, one of the most wonderful things that has emerged is the explosion of content available to consumers. No, folks, businesses don’t fail in SL because of content theft or because of lack of support from LL; they fail because the competition has become fierce and you have to provide great content with a tight business model. My look today includes some of the best designers in SL who created pieces for the 100 Block and a hungry shopping community.

First start with Cynthia Ultsch’s short jean jacket. I was so thrilled when I saw this come out. She has made it short to work with many different mesh outfits, open to show a little decolletage and open enough to accommodate different sizes in front. I fit it over Datrip Blackbart’s little rock n roll bustier (this can be found at his shop) and then wore that with Moonbubble Gothly’s high-waisted mini, where the material in the skirt goes up rather than down. I have to say I wore bustier and skirt out and got a lot of compliments. Of course the compliments may have come from wearing Gospel Voom’s high heeled Mary Janes from FaMESHed with their frilly ankle socks. In fact, I think for my compliment-givers, these were a delectable deciding factor.

Cruella Pennell often amazes me with her other-vision hair styles and her style and hairbases for 100 Block are no exception. With an intricately shaved texture, the hair base’s swirls correspond with my skirt while my long locks on top, tossed to the side, give my look height and movement. Limited edition earrings from Ganymede Galaxy from Limited Bazaar give me a touch of Wastelands with filament inside the glass bulb hanging off a gear. And the luscious skin Sawsan Secretspy is selling at 100 Block, is pretty and soft but has enough grit with the darkly lined eyes to make the look work.

Green is the color of spring and therefore the color of love as far as I am concerned. Green is the color of life and I can’t wait to see it pop up. That’s’ why I chose to wear Poulet Koenkamp’s newest gown in this lichen green. She combines a sexy mesh template dress with her distinctive textures and flexi prims to give this gorgeous romantic spring dress embroidered with gold on the seams. Add a pair of opera gloves with a dramatic top (and Slink-enabled tattoo if you want to wear them with mesh hands), and I am greeting spring with love!

My skin is Bonnie Forder’s exclusive for Skin Fair 2014. I loved the elegantly drawn brows and this cupid’s bow mouth, very distinctive to this skin. The makeup is gorgeous—a green liner around my beautiful eyes from Cruelle Pennell. The skin comes in 6 tones with 15 lipsticks, and appliers for all you need are available as well as cleavage and hair down there. Skin Fair is STILL ON (through March 30) and if you are like me, you will return again and again to ponder the gorgeous new offerings from the best skin designers on the grid. Kavar Cleanslate came out with this lovely banged cut not long ago and I had to wear it in this gorgeous auburn to match the green of my look.

The first gesture of an architect is to draw a perimeter; in other words, to separate the microclimate from the macro space outside. This in itself is a sacred act. I have a huge thing for architects and architecture. It’s the combination of artistry and engineering, the aesthetic and the practical, the communication to the human condition through space that is so amazing to me. I have visited many beautiful spaces in my life and my breath has been taken away.

I am not an architect—I lived with one for a time. My best friend from childhood is now a practicing architect for a German company in Chicago. She designs buildings around the world. I am so damn proud of her because I remember the drawings she made of houses for us when we were ten and sitting in the living room of her parents’ tiny suburban ranch home and now she works for an international firm.

I know many real life architects in SL as well—degreed, licensed, practicing. I read a funny thing about romcoms that they always have a main man who is an architect, and this guy always seems to have a great house, job and seemingly endless time for romance. Truth is that the architects I know, even partners in firms, drive old cars, live in fixer-uppers (because they are doing the fixing up), and work 60-80 hours a week. They are interesting group for sure, but generally overworked.

Nowadays most architects work on computers, endlessly between the CAD work and reading emails and architectural code, but at one time they worked on paper. Think Frank Lloyd Wright when you view this gorgeous set of items Tobias Convair has created for the Arcade (opening in a week). You can collect all the fun stuff that even seasoned modern day architects drool over—drafting table, pencil cup, drawings, cabinet, stool, french curves, compass, model—and even an architect’s scale (which is so evocative of one my dad used to have that I want to pick it up, weigh it in my hand and feel its smooth surfaces). They are rendered in exquisite, loving detail by Tobias, who is himself an architect. The brilliant part is there are all no copy/transfer so if you have an architect friend or two (or one that would like to be one), you can purchase the pieces at the Arcade or a yard sale and give them as a gift.

I dressed like my dear friend, who tends towards stylish but mostly practical (her shoes, once she gets to the office after walking from the L, get changed to a more stylish pair and promptly kicked off under the desk). A sleeveless bowed top and long slacks from Thetra Blackheart are the main outfit in complimentary, almost neutral tones. Pops of color come from Ariadne Garrigus’ modern glasses and Erratic Rain’s absolutely sexy and chic sandals (made for Slink feet).

My hair and makeup are pictures of simplicity—there simply is not enough time for overdoing makeup and hair when buildings need to be designed! I love Mirja Mill’s darling updo with a built in animation to let the hair down into a ponytail. After all these years, Mirja still finds new styles and has fun making them for her customers, and this one is particularly fun. My skin is one of Shyla Diggs Boucher’s newest, being offered at the Arcade as a rare. If you want this rare skin with dark brows, find a friend who is willing to swap with you! Or pass your extras on to your alt.

Things To Do

I got a little worried that after the holidays I would be thrown into the abyss of Having Nothing To Do. After remodeling my RL family room, baking 400+ Christmas cookies for the four holiday parties I held, cleaning the house, decorating, finding gifts and so on, I thought I would be wallowing in boredom. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, my “to do” list has grown.

I have written it all down and I slyly glance at it while I am pondering what the next step might be. My pondering is done, of course, fashionably in a top from isiss Bade, belted and accessorized with a cute necklace from Maxi Gossamer that she’s selling at Love is in the Air. Leggings and boots from Nena Janus complete the look. And my to-do list? Courtesy of Hanstrid Inshan from her store of darling furniture. (Thanks a lot, Hanstrid. I needed more to do. Really.)

To dos are a lot easier to face when you feel comfortable and casual, and I certainly am with this new ponytail from Chiaki Xue. Chiaki has embedded wispy flexis with the ponytail so it doesn’t have that static feeling that many mesh ponytails have. My big blue eyes come from Cruella Pennell’s offerings at The Thrift Shop. And my skin is the lovely Ria from Shyla and Tricky Boucher, which was being offered at Collabor88 last month. Something makes me believe Shyla is working hard on something new—it’s not a fact, just intuition. Of course, she has a long “to do” list too. *sigh*

I have been feeling a bit alien lately. First of all, I have a horrible cold and I am heavily medicated. And then I have been playing with a new set of skins from Galathir Darkstone. First let me point out a sexy ensemble from Ivy Burner, this webbed bikini that includes appliers for several busts and booty that she is offering at Bewbapalooza. (There is part of me opposed to even mentioning the name of the event, but in all fairness to Ivy, I must.) I wanted to wear this see through look so you could see Galathir’s gorgeous skin.

The skins have beautiful textures and subtle shadows. I chose a pretty tame one here—there is a gorgeous blue and pink skin, one that is yellow and green, another that is dark drow and several others. They sound more garish than they are—the shading is really lovely. If you want a fantasy skin that makes you a walking piece of art, this would be the skin.

What makes the skins really a value is that Galathir includes appliers for *everything* you could throw at him—Slink feet and hands, the Loud Mouth, the Phat Azz, Tango breasts (though I was able to wear Lush and it worked fine), his own tail, ears and genitals. I opted to wear hands, feet and boobs so you could see how well they blend with his appliers and I was able to do it all from ONE hud. Whew! (And with such a fine ass on the skin, who needs more mesh there?)

I nosed around Cruella Pennella’s store to find an awesome ‘do, and found this short cut that is sassy and sexy with great textures. Abraxxa Anatine is offering cat eyes for spooky looks (she isn’t just limited to jewelry). And I loved these elaborate jeweled earrings from AvaGardner Kungler, which are her offering at L’Accessoire.

Cruella has a set of long hairs that are shaved in front with a variety of fierce hairbases. This one has a Celtic pattern.
