Really Fun Librarians

People hear RFL being mentioned all over the grid. Those of us in the know know it means “Relay for Life,” but if you tossed those letters out during some half-drunken party game, what might you get? “Really Fun Librarians?” “Rolling Floor Laughing?” “Rhubarb-Flavored Ladyfingers?” “Radioactive Fruit Larva?” “Raising Furious Leprechauns?” “Radishes for Lunch?” “Really Fat Ladies in Ragged Frumpy Leotards?” “Reghan Fondles Lauraleigh?” (Don’t ask.) “Really Frickin’ Lazy?” (Which is what I was when I asked my pals in “Hey Girlfriends” to help me with this—thank you, Girlfriends.)

Really Fun Librarians

I think it means “Really Flirty Livery.” (OK, yes I am making a stretch here but play along with me.) Elle74 Zaftig is donating this entire outfit for the benefit of RFL at the Fashion Fest. With 9 sims and some 100 designers offering hair, jewelry, clothing, shoes—the fest has anything your avatar could desire with donations by each designer for RFL (“Relay for Life,” not “Righteously Fantastic Lovers”).

Really Fun Librarians

Elle’s outfit is an especially good find because it comes with EVERYTHING you see on my avatar (minus the hat, which is attached to the fantastic hair from Kookie Lemon). You get the flirty minidress, laced up the back with a bow on the curve of the butt, the bracelets, and the cute boots, also laced up the back.

Really Fun Librarians

I show the ensemble with a new skin from Mea Carnell. Mea is putting her full effort into making skins for the avatars of SL, trying her turn at a little different look with shimmering lips and very drawn and not highly made-up eyes (this was probably the heaviest eye makeup in the set I have). I loved the pastels with the white hair. It makes for a cute chic look.

All About Business

I have once written about how people complain about the lack of business clothes in SL. I just don’t see it. Many great business looks can be put together (especially if one is able to make allowances about necklines).

All About Business

Take this dress from monica Outlander. Top to bottom, it’s a winner for a well-dressed woman. With its creamy knit texture, modest length (again for SL), and versatility, this dress can be very handily worn for business in SL. I have accessorized with a great belt from Sofi Trenkins and one of Mika Nieuport’s great 50L Fridays jewelry sets.

All About Business

The stunner of this whole look, however, is Mea Cannell’s newest skin offering, specifically made for African-American or African-European women. I really liked this skin—it’s beautiful and appropriate. I am especially fond of the lips. It’s not a light skin darkened. I will wear this skin again, especially when I want an elegant look.

Astrofiction

Rezzable is holding a science-fiction based show and sale on their Greenies’ sim, featuring a number of notable designers.

Astrofiction

Tekelili Tantalus was asked to participate, and he was a brilliant choice for this show. With his otherworldly designs and incredible building skills, few will be able to surpass his fantastic ensembles. This one, one of a set of six colors, is featured at the show. In typical fashion, Tek has combined prim armor and boots with a seductive silks belt and beautifully rendered system pieces.

Astrofiction

The beauty of this outfit, however, is that the system pieces can be removed and you still have a great outfit, especially if you want to make your avatar show a little more skin…

Astrofiction

The skin I am showing, in this case, is one of a series of more fantastic skins from Mea Carnell. With it’s hand-drawn features, it is more illustrative rather than realistic, but it suits the graphic fantasy of Tek’s outfit. I accompany it with one of my favorite fun hair pieces from Helyanwe Vindaloo (fairy dust particles turned to off).

Jacked In

Ooo! I just watched my first episode of Caprica (do not spoil it for me!) and now I am squirming with the pleasure of this great science fiction series ahead of me, especially since I just finished Margaret Atwood’s The Year of the Flood.

There is a whacky discussion going on in my head right now, based on an article by James Fallows in this month’s Atlantic about How America Can Rise Again. It has to do with this notion of apocalypse or rather, how Americans face the current times and the future with a feeling that we are in decline.

I think a lot of the same malaise imbues SL, (and I am not talking about RP sims like City of Lost Angels or Midian) in the forums, the blogs, and the general chat. The Mentors are gone, the Homesteads are messed up, people are closing malls and businesses… yadda yadda yadda.

But Fallows has it right in his article, and I argue the same. “One look at the comforts and abundance of American life—even during a recession, even with all the people who are suffering or left out—can make it seem silly to ask about anything except the secrets of the country’s success,” he argues. “The typical American I see in an office building or shopping mall, stout or slim, gives off countless unconscious signs—hair, skin, teeth, height—of having grown up in a society of taken-for-granted sanitation, vaccination, ample protein, and overall public health.”

I can point to the same thing in SL: higher concurrencies, better stability, more beautiful and far reaching content than we have ever had before. Even the newbies look tons better (come on now—hardly anyone runs around with that freaky helmet hair anymore). SL is pretty damn good. Fallows’ final argument is that American history has a unique tradition of “cycles of despair followed by triumphant rebirths.” We are on the brink in this country, and I think SL is in line too. (And I apologize to all my readers from other countries—I would like to hear your thoughts too.)

This crazy opener leads into today’s look, a combo of high tech, future, and fantasy. Actually, it is all about being jacked in.

Jacked In

The content in SL is better than ever. Let’s agree on that. I show this amazing “kimono” from Selos Dae as evidence. From the amazingly sculpties, combining a fur with a full leg to the truly unique sleeves, upended and lined with fur, to the great streaming ties. It’s just a very funky and cool outfit.

Jacked In

I said this blog was all about the hair, however, and really it is (and not about the weird thoughts going on in my head). This amazing cyberhair made by lat Oh made my day. Not only is it shaped well, textured amazingly, and tremendously imaginative, but it is also scripted with a HUD so you can change color of the metal, the little round “lights” on the back, and the ends of the wicks AND you can control their glow.

Jacked In

My favorite part of the hair was the USB port on the earphone!! Oh imagine that, being able to jack right in to your computer. (It’s all coming clear now, isn’t it.. Caprica.. the future of the SL.. get it? OK, probably not, but trust me, it all has to do with this little USB port.)

I wear a futuristic skin from Mea Carnell who has a line of pretty groovy goth and futuristic women’s skins. And these little eyelashes from Keri Clip are my favorite because they have a little white dot on the bottom. Something about those dots is so charming.
