Found Haiku

April is National Poetry Month and my regular readers know that this will be greeted with happiness in my corner because I love poetry. Poetry, to many, seems inaccessible, obtuse, emotional or rigid, which is a shame because it’s anything but. It’s a fool’s game for sure—being a poet is no way to make a living for most people but then being a ballet dancer is a rare occupation as is being a rocket scientist.

The truth is poetry can be found everywhere, as the New York Times proves with their Serendipitous Haiku. Ostensibly it’s a computer program that scans the articles published on their website and finds 17 syllable sentences that can be broken into the traditional 5/7/5 syllable line with an emphasis on the potential of a deliverable moment of enlightenment. Some of the haiku the computer finds certainly do this as show by my examples.

I bring up the haiku form to illustrate, of course, the Japan Fair 2014, which is its own found poem. The build is lovely, the content sold at the fair is gorgeous, and the intentions are good—to gather Japanese creators in SL to donate a portion of their proceeds to Shelter Box, a charity in the UK which delivers boxes with tents and other aid to displaced families who need temporary shelter. The build was peaceful and lovely to walk around, a testament to the kind gesture of the fair.

Take, for example, this gorgeous dress from my friend Saya Littlething. Saya has made a number of items for Japan Fair, all of them donating 100% to Shelter Box in their sales. This kimono-print dress, made from a mesh sheath joined with a flexi skirt and tied with a large kimono-influenced bow, can take you from Japan to a formal ballroom in seconds. I found my sexy geta-inspired heels from Rei2 Aya, made for the Slink high feet, at the Fair as well, with a portion of their sales donated to Shelter Box.

My windblown hair is offered by Rika Oyen, who has several hair styles at the fair, and my gorgeous headpiece, embellished with flowers, painted porcelain, ribbons and a tassle, is Gin Fhang’s generous donation for Shelter Box. My collar, which I tinted, is a gift to visitors at Hays Uriza’s store, which features gorgeous jewelry.

I wanted to show this look with Inka Mexicola’s porcelain skin, which she is selling at Kustom9. I find the the heavy defined brows and deep expressive eyes absolutely beautiful and the perfect deep red bow lips and blush to add the sort of beautiful color and bloom this found haiku of a look needs.

Snow Girl

I am still on this kick about what to wear to keep warm. There are dozens of beautiful winter-themed sims all over the grid and it looks mighty silly if you show up in a bikini or a fairy costume. So here is some more winter goodness.

Snow Girl

The scenario is that I am out on the plains of the Midwest, fighting off the brisk wind rolling over the flatlands off the Rockies. This puffy parka from AIR Winx is a clever mix of sculpty prims, flexi furry prims, and system pieces with an ingenious satiny quilted texture. The thing looks real, folks.. all I can say. And it’s VERY warm. And it has that nice airy squishy feeling that is so delish. The jacket comes with a striped gray and black sweater underneath—but you don’t have to wear it.

Snow Girl

Casual jeans from Kaejo DaSilva (thanks, KK) work with this outfit. (KK is very scrupulous about her wardrobe—whatever doesn’t work gets trashed immediately. She has had these jeans a while and loves them. I can see why.) I plopped earmuffs from Antonia Marat on my head—she didn’t have purple but white matches all and since when do YOUR earmuffs always match your jacket?

A beautiful luscious skin from Hart Larsson makes me a winter beauty with its fresh glowing tan and well drawn eyebrows. (Really.. it’s about the eyebrows.. it really REALLY is.) A short cute hairstyle, pinned back, from Truth Hawks, tops this fresh air look.

Snow Girl

I once lived in this part of the fair Midwest, in a state where people spent an inordinate amount of time talking about their boots. “Like your boots… where’dya get ‘em… They sure look warm.” These boots from MariaElena Barbosa would do well in that wintery clime, mud-spattered and scuffed from good old-fashioned hard work. These are for girls who know how to pitch hay.

Sending a shout out to my favorite college class in the real world, Pink’s and Dex’s students in the Midwest—not the first college class in that particular state I have been in front of ;)

Casual Friday

Friday is casual—lots of people get to dress down in their offices or they take the day off. In my case, it’s a day off with a run around town.

Casual Friday

I put this ensemble together because it is loose and easy and chic all at once. A jean jacket from machang Pichot keeps the chill off but can be taken off so I can just wear the tank top from Darling Monday. This darling skirt is from AIR Winx. I tugged the belt that was attached to it down somewhat so I could wear this chic metallic belt from Umeko Shan. AIR’s belt is a few prims wrapped around.. and while it is cute, it just doesn’t fit my hips as well as this multiprim belt.

Casual Friday

I finished it off with a hair from boo Nakamura. I really love this style for it’s casual elegance. Its full body and slight messiness conveys a sort of offhanded sexiness. And of course, I wore Bax Coen’s beautiful boots. Walking with the legs going through the skirt prims, the majesty of the boots comes through.

What to Wear to Burning Life, Part 2

As part of an ongoing series here (well ok, this is the second post.. we’ll see if it’s a “series”), I am bringing post number two to you about what to wear to Burning Life.

What to wear to BL, Part 2

To review: wear socks and comfortable shoes because the playa dust can get to you and you’re walking around a lot. What was not mentioned is that it can get cold on the playa at night, so layering is always suggested.

What to wear to BL, Part 2

This is a pretty conservative look for the playa. With this great leather blouson red jacket from AIR Winx and the simple V-neck tee from cocoro Lemon, this look really could work anywhere. I am wearing my FAVORITE jeans from Kazu Pinklady. If someone could wear out pixels, I would have done it with these jeans, I have worn them so many times. (You may see transparencies in the jeans soon…..)

What to wear to BL, Part 2

I put on Bratty Slade’s necklace and bracelet to dress it up. Just cuz you’re casual doesn’t mean you have to be plain.

What to wear to BL, Part 2

Finally, and that is what this whole blog is about—the shoes. I got these beauties from a new designer, Magnifico Muggins. A lovely Austrian woman, Magnifico is entering SL in a big way with a full line of boots and shoes. This is just the tip of the iceberg. This sweet little sneaker includes a hud with color changing so you can switch the look of the entire outside. This black and red combo suited me really well. But there are some other great color combos. Available for women and men! (You are gonna see more from this lady in this blog soon.. I am digging her work.)
