Autumn Heat

I am waiting for that little last burst of summer before autumn really kicks in, when the air is warm with a touch of chill, the sun is golden through the leaves and summer gives us her final burst of beauty before leaving. It hasn’t come but when it does, I know what to wear.

AvaGardner Kungler has just come out with this wonderful dress, a combo of abstract texture with a beautifully rendered silk top. Leave it to AvaGardner to create the top asymmetrically with two pieces of silk criss-crossing and wrapping around to the back. Her texture work is superb with shadows and puckers correctly rendered and a sheen that is there but not so overt we are conscious of it. The mini skirt moves well with the avatar and lines up PERFECTLY. (She took on a challenge with her horizontal stripes and knocked it out of the ballpark.) I was looking at some of the real life stuff from fashion week in New York and realized that drawing it in SL would not be very easy. I think AvaGardner could pull it off.

I show this dress with the smokin’ hot skin from Tuli, her latest line. (Check out my new profile photo in-world–I wear the same skin.) I love the lip colors available on the tattoo layers, but I am still worried about expecting all customers to use clients that employ alpha layers. I tried another viewer—Impudence this time—so I could get the alpha layer. I still crash in it more than Snowglobe, especially when I take photos, but I like it other than that.

The necklace is from Julia Merosi, who has set up shop on Bax Coen’s sim and is making lovely jewelry. This necklace has color changers that can change different sets of beads so the combinations are endless. The earrings are from Bella Bombast, who has quite a great collection of jewelry and fashion with African influences. And my shoes? Ms. Siddean Munro loves my feet and I love hers. This sexy pair comes with two huds—the standard one for changing skin tone (totally easy to use, even for dorks like me), nail color and shoe size and then another for changing the color of the gems.

It was Indian summer, a bluebird sort of day as we call it in the north, warm and sunny, without a breath of wind; the water was sky-blue, the shores a bank of solid gold.

Art Opening

I have a friend in SL who is an avid art collector in SL and RL. The number of art shows this guy has been to has to be monumental. I personally have only been to a few in RL. There is a certain woman I always see, however, at these shows.

Art Opening

She is always thin, perpetually has a glass of red wine in her hand, and her hair is a study in planned insouciance (in this case planned by Rosie Lavochkin). She’s always slightly tipsy, her bold lipstick kissed on the edge of the glass, her sweater slipping off her gleaming shoulder. This sweater, from Mat Kungler, makes a perfect sweater for her… it’s loose and free but beautifully knit. You can tell it cost quite a penny but she wears it casually.

She also has on a pair of dressier slacks—usually something satiny to dress up the sweater and thin the silhouette. In this case a pair of expensive straight leg pants that bunch around the ankle from Morphine Janick—a bit wrinkly because our art lover doesn’t care if she looks a little tossed and turned.

She is missing one of the statement necklaces I see so many women like this wear, but she has the necklace and bracelet she picked up one of her trips to Mexico (from Kuranosuke Kamachi  and Bella Bombast respectively), and a quite expensive belt slung around her hips she got in a little boutique in Santa Fe. In fact, you can hear the clink and jangle of her bracelets as she flits around the room, smell the perfume waft behind her, see her lipstick a little smudged in the corners of her mouth as she engages in lively conversation. She’s got the room in her hand. She knows it.

As my artist’s statement explains, my work is utterly incomprehensible and is therefore full of deep significance. ~ Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson

Last Days at the Beach

Well, this is it. Summer’s almost over. One more chance to get to the beach over Labor Day before the season ends.

Today it’s a beautiful day and an ideal opportunity for me to wear a skin I have always liked and admired from Miasnow. Its combination of photosourcing and hand drawing reveals a beautiful African-American woman. I find it hard to find darker skins that represent well in-world—I am not sure what everyone’s experience is. But this one is fantastic.

Last Day at the Beach

I am showing a swimsuit from Shiryu Musashi. Shiryu, a long time designer in SL, took a break from commerce for a while, pursuing other projects (including doing the fashion curating for the Rinascimento Virtuale show in Florence, Italy, last year). He is back and determined to get your Linden. This swimsuit is one of his newest offerings. With his careful use of prims and hand-drawn textures, it’s a refreshing change from the latest photosourced, painted-on swimsuits out there.

Last Day at the Beach

I discovered UZURI on a hunt for skins. Bella Bombast offers some terrific jewelry at her store—chunky and crafty. Her pieces are fashion statements by themselves and compliment many outfits.

Last Day at the Beach

Check out these fashionable wedges from Armidi Gisaci. The darlings of the fashion grid for a time, the group has established their business with a stellar website for shopping. (Every content creator on the grid is jealous—admit it). The textures are fabulous on these shoes, but they need to talk to their shoe makers—system toes are so 2008. Sculpty toes are where it’s at!
