Battle Ready

Bryce Randt and Eclipse Lykin of Eclipse make some of the toughest, most elaborate RP wear on the grid. They are also the nicest people you will ever meet. I had the pleasure of meeting Bryce and then his partner Eclipse when we were all doing RFL (which has personal significance for them as it does for many in SL). I had long admired their work without knowing the warm hearts behind the work.

Bryce and Eclipse have achieved a partnership that many of us would envy. They had known each other before entering Second Life, and Bryce followed Eclipse into this new world where they could open shop. Their work and vision is so entwined that they can not tell where one’s work ends and the other’s begins.

Battle Ready

“Realize your RP” is the tagline of their business, and it caught my attention. Their RP wear is so elaborately made, so complete with evocative details that it’s hard not to WANT to create a story about the person wearing it.

Battle Ready

I felt instantly tougher wearing it. Gone was the fussy woman with the legendary shoe collection. Present was the tough and beautiful warrior and conjurer. Scuffed boots from miles of travel, elaborate staff in hand, equipped with tools for conjuring and facing foes, I felt confident and ready.

Battle Ready

Note the details–the knife holstered on the back of a vest, the tooled leather belt complete with mystical hourglass and pockets containing herbs and other spells. I styled this piece with MissAllSunday’s Aerandir beautifully braided hair to make a complete look.

Battle Ready

And check out the back side. They sure know how to make a good butt, much less the gloves and leg satchel.

Battle Ready

Few things in SL can survive such close scrutiny. With their work, I can still get this close and gasp with wonder. The textures from the system pieces to the prims are immaculate and contain in them the stories of ages.

Calling All Angels

Morphine Janick of the Sweetest Good-bye (which is a great store name—makes me feel emo in a good way) has created a great outfit for Black Swan’s Swansong—Placebo. She has rendered a very precise system piece in her body suit with its fishnet stocking on one side and vinyl legging on the other. Her zipper work and seam matching is flawless. The wings are petite—I prefer that, actually. They are more an accessory than the feature piece as wings are usually.

Calling All Angels

This is a fantasy piece, more suited to photographs than to trips to Franks. Actually, if you wore it, you would be the talk of the room.

Calling All Angels

I styled this outfit with Viktoria Brandenberg’s Black VIK 6-Laces Knee Boots. Black, shiny, wicked, these boots come as knee high or she has another in full thigh high. With 10 colors available on the laces, I find myself wearing the boots more and more frequently, matching them to any outfit that has even a hint of black leather.

Calling All Angels

The skin is one of Pulse’s newest—Iced Grape. This “futuristic” look worked well with an anime sort of hair from Kin Keiko (it’s a bit older–not sure if it’s for sale anymore).

Red Velvet

Winter Jefferson, blogging vampire and tireless organizer of Swansong, whispered in my ear the other night that he had seen the perfect gown for me. Winter doesn’t realize my inventory is FULL of the gowns “perfect for me”—about 450 of them. (Don’t ask…) But, still, hope springs eternal, so I went to check it out.

When I teleported into Black Swan, I saw what he saw. Redheads CAN wear red and THIS redhead loves to wear red. Tabitha Ninetails of the Dancing Academy has outdone herself with this elegant evening gown. From the cleverly constructed décolletage to the careful and beautiful rendering on the system pieces, I can feel the rich fabric lying on my skin, the open back and exposed shoulders caressed by the air, the heavy skirts swirling around my legs with each step. I feel elegant and regal. Winter was soooo right.

Red Velvet

I have topped this ensemble with Sky Everett’s Reign in red and a cute pair of earrings Nonna Hedges just sent through that I imagine she has made in Maya. Little diamond-studded Eiffel Towers add a little something different to the ensemble. They aren’t your mother’s pearl studs.

Red Velvet

Maitreya’s elegant and sexy Verve pumps complete the outfit.

Earth Mother

The Swansong at the Black Swan sim, soon to be closed by Rezzable as they leave Second Life with only Greenies, is quite a round-up of fashion designers in Second Life. As I was helping Raven set down her panel for “Black Flame,” I cammed around the area, feeling that familiar twinge of the need to shop as I saw everyone’s creations.

Earth Mother

That same evening, Lorac passed over a photo of her new Wheat/Desire skin, and I realized the perfect look was in my hands. With Dezi Jarvinen’s Mother Nature Gown in Earth, I was able to put together an earth mother look that appealed to the Taurus in me. Dezi designed a dress with beautifully rendered leaves and branches and a cleverly designed sheer green skirt. It compliments the vision of natural beauty shown with Lorac’s skin.

Earth Mother

What is also clever about this outfit is that the pretty underneath pieces turn into a sexy bikini when you take the prims and outer layers off. So Mother Earth can get down-to-earth and down to business in a split second. Dezi did the kind service of providing the clothing on all layers, which many may be considered convenient but made the ensemble confusing for me.

Princess for a Day

Sky Everett, in her usual manner, has given the Black Swan Swansong sale an incredible hair piece with Princess Liante. With it’s paradoxically ancient and futuristic shape, this will adorn women across the grid either as high fashion or as role-playing accoutrement.

A furniture designer and a home builder, Sky has lent her considerable texturing and prim building talents to making hair for ladies all over the grid. Sky makes hair like no one else—it’s big, it’s beautiful, it’s many women’s fantasy. Princess Liante comes with a gorgeous jeweled ponytail that snakes around to the front. With hair pulled up in back, it comes with or without facelights.

Princess for a day

Even better, it comes with a variety of jewels. You get a pair of beautiful earrings and two collars, one that faces backwards and one that faces forwards. You also get a set of jewels that can be worn on the back of the hair piece or on top as a crown.

Princess for a Day

The crown suits me….

Princess for a Day

I chose to show the hair with Mallu Mayo’s dress Etherna. This hair has to take center stage but it has to be accompanied by a simple classic dress. Mallu’s work is clean and well-constructed. As someone remarked when they saw me in this, “Not everyone can pull off an empire waist in SL. Looks great!”

I love AOHARU’s Suede Lace Up Sandals with this dress. I show them here without the dress so you can see up close that prim toes/feet don’t have to cost a lot and don’t need to have the fat ankle and mismatched skin.

A quick shout out to some friends who have helped or been helping me with this blog including Winter Jefferson of In Cold Blood, Raven Haalen of Raven’s Roost and his partner Isle Lunasea, and my two biggest critical advisors–fashion photog buddy Wilhelm and architect Stephen. (They don’t have blogs.. they do this stuff for real. So they are kind enough to fuss at my photos in-world while they are trying to relax.)

Thanks also to Saeya for hooking me up with that Photosphere! My own hollowed-out sphere was getting to be a drag.

And moo, I love ya, babe!
