It’s Raining, It’s Pouring

It’s Spring!! Here it means that one day it’s almost summer and the next it’s almost winter again. Today it poured and was freezing cold out. Like that sort of dampness that cuts through any exposed piece of skin and leaves you feeling like a shivering wet dog.

It's Raining, It's Pouring

I pulled out this jacket from toraji Voom and put it on over a soft and cozy turtleneck from Aranel Ah (that almost went in the chest for next season when it seemed it was going to be summer forever). I pulled on this great box pleated (literally) skirt from toraji Voom over black tights and pulled on my trusty old cowboy boots from JB Gazov. Got my umbrella from Seagel Neville. Forget looking hip and fashionable—I just want to be warm. And this is pretty cute anyway.

Check out my cute hood with hair from toraji Voom to go with the jacket. Now this is ingenous. I can fit the whole look together without messing around with hair prims.

It's Raining, It's Pouring

A fresh skin amidst all the gray and darkness is what is needed, and Rhapzody Wilde’s new store provided one for me, inexpensively (300L for this one with several different eyebrow shades). I truly like the coloring of this skin. I will say the eyebrows in this set have that sort of “anxiety shape” I am not very fond of but with light brows and the right bald head, it’s just fine. I did notice she drew in little dimples. That’s awfully cute.

Geek Chic

Not everyone who comes in to SL comes here for dancing at clubs or finding romance. In fact, many residents use SL for other pursuits, such as exploring it for library sciences or education. Putting on wings or tight leather pants might not be their cup of chai. But in SL there is no reason not to express your fashion sense.

Geek Chic

This look I put together might give some ideas. My little librarian is in no way lacking appeal or fashionability. On top I have a cute turtleneck from Aranel Ah and below, brand new boy pants that I have fashioned for a Jane from myvegancookbook Bolissima. Aranel does the basic black turtleneck well with very nice conical cuffs and an understated prim neck (which says a lot because I have a lot of turtlenecks with BIG necks). It’s cashmere all the way, baby.

The fashionable, retro pants are bound to be a favorite for both men and women as they have such a unique and cute silhouette. Carefully drawn and so cleverly given prims between the bunched waist and the tabbed cuffs, these are a brilliant new addition to SL wardrobes.

Geek Chic

With this look, it’s all about the accessories. First our librarian throws on a favorite scarf to bring color to the ensemble. Then she tops it with the terrific square glasses from Guu Nishi with their color change script (so yes, Ms. Dewey Decimal, you can show a little flair with yellow frames). A cute little artsy ring from Nuala Shippe, who has sadly closed shop, completes this eclectic look.

Geek Chic

Eponymous Trenchmouth passed me a set of his Kool Kats, which are tagged “unisex,” and my librarian is a girl who likes practical shoes that are also stylish. These have a styling shape, funky color combos, and retro styling. Let me note that Epy’s shoes are built from standard prims, which is in itself a notable accomplishment. He has developed his own textures, his own prims, and he is the men’s shoe maker of choice by the best dressed in SL (including me).

Leopard Skin

It’s an off day for writing but an on day for fashion. I scored some great things I want to share, but I don’t have any great theme ‘cept they are cool.

Leopard Skin

A wander down to Djinn and Tonic the other day took me into Damon Dollinger’s area (Fear & Clothing–the name alone deserves sales), where he offers some glam and fun stuff for men (and women—I took them over). I found these terrific leopard skin hip huggers with the belt and dang, I had to have them. I ripped them out of some emo boy’s hand and ran off with them.

Leopard Skin

I scurried over to Aranel Ah’s place and found this hoodie to match. She has some really cute separates that mix and match with many things but don’t look the same old, same old. For example, this hoodie has a great zippered front and ends just above the belly button for a little bare midriff.

Leopard Skin

I “dressed” it up with jewelry from Miel. I have some really nice pieces from Miel, sold at inexpensive prices. This set includes beads on loosely tied leather pieces. This is not easy work, working with tiny prims, putting on textures of this intricacy. Mika Nieuport definitely does fine work.

I bottomed out with boots from Annette Voight. With the fine sculpties and the delicious buttery soft textures, these boots are luxurious and sexy.

Couture Origami

Today’s couture has been marked by geometry and the manipulation of shapes. Check out what Lady Gaga dons. Lots of geometric shapes attached to the body. (And yes, when I see them now, I wonder how many prims.)

Couture Origami

That is why AvaGardner Kungler’s design choices for this simply exquisite evening gown make total sense. It’s not just the use of the prims but also the beautifully rendered pleats in the textures that push the outfit over the top with their perfectly done edges. Wow! Looking at it, I can marvel at the engineering behind the pleated pieces in front, wonder at its stiffness and the creator’s vision. Wearing it makes me feel like a package all wrapped up. This is a piece of couture art.

I styled this with a punk hair that would echo the angles of the dress and kind of knock it out of that “dress up” realm it could so easily fall into. I wanted to emphasize the angularity of the dress, mirroring the softness of the fabric with the softness of the hair, pushed into these odd geometric shapes. This punky style from Violet Morellet (a use I am sure she never intended when she made this) did the trick.

Couture Origami

I further pushed the geomtry with earrings from Anuitka Barthelmess (told you she would show up again). These are spectacular—scintillating flexi earrings, made up of a hundred or so tiny flexis shimmering in silver. If yesterday’s post didn’t get you over to her store, I sure hope today’s will.

The final accessory was Digit Darkes’ Lamb Gloves from her new Fall Collection. The soft feathery cuffs offset the buckled silver leather in the gloves and make this an ideal couture accessory.
