“The cold cut like a many bladed knife.” ~ Israel Zangwill

A cold front has blown through my town and the rest of the country and we’re all huddling in for the duration. Paul Lapointe and Bastchild Lotus just released this chic pair of boots in autumn colors that include a color change for the boots, the strap around the boots and the sole. In typical L&B style, the boots are sexy down to the last detail and versatile for many looks.

LG hud

SamanthaSJones proudly released this trenchcoat recently. I have seen the style in other stores but not with Sam’s unique twist on it. Rather than offering the coat in many colors, you get a coat OF many colors with her special hud that allows 120 different colors. I have to be honest—I was late on this post because I spent so much time clicking all the colors, trying to decide what I liked.

Helyanwe Vindaloo offered this blushing, cold weather skin in the KittyCats Advent Calendar yesterday. Remember that you can get previous days’ gifts in the calendar up until Christmas, so if you missed yesterday, get it today. My sleek hair is Tabata Jewell’s newest style, offering a close-to-the-head style that looks chic and fashionable, perfect for the new menswear haute couture look or for wearing short under hats (or earmuffs—these from Izzie Button).

Finally, under my gloves I sport a secret manicure. Today, Caroline Apollo offered this darling nailpolish set as a gift in the KittyCats Advent Calendar. With four different kitty motifs, you can share your KittyCat love on your Slink hand nails.

Modern-Day Cleopatra

Modern Day Cleopatra

Age cannot wither her, nor custom stale
Her infinite variety
~ from “Antony and Cleopatra” by William Shakespeare

Modern Day Cleopatra

And so Shakespeare invents for an archetypal woman, so vigorous, so vivacious that even in later years, she is interesting. (She is also vain and dramatic, self-centered and selfish—not exactly a sympathetic heroine). Perhaps that’s why the fantasy woman in SL is so prevalent—she of the huge gown, extravagant hair and eyelashes, and incredible features. Agnes Finney sells to this dream—a dream of an elaborate gown kissed with key details, like this high collar, the butterflies at the hip, and the high cut up the leg. Our Cleopatra considers herself royalty and expects to be treated as such.

Modern Day Cleopatra

Aida Ewing plays to the fantasy as well with her shimmering, glimmering makeup, this time on a beautifully lush darker skin highlighted with diamond-enhanced lashes from Viola Leigh. Strappy sandals with leather crenellations on the heel from Onxy LeShelle complete our modern-day Cleopatra, aiming for her Antony.

Autumn Movement

I cried over beautiful things knowing no beautiful thing lasts.

The field of cornflower yellow is a scarf at the neck of the copper sunburned woman, the mother of the year, the taker of seeds.

The northwest wind comes and the yellow is torn full of holes, new beautiful things come in the first spit of snow on the northwest wind, and the old things go, not one lasts.

~ Carl Sandburg

Autumn Movement

Autumn has peaked here and all it leaves are the memories of colors and the golden sunlight scattered on the lawn. AvaGardner Kungler’s evening dress reminds me of those colors with its rich gold so beautifully rendered and dark leaves. AvaGardner understands how to highlight the sheen that might show in a fabric and does a terrific job with the system piece bodice, doing just that.

Autumn Movement

I wear this dress over one of Kira Ahn’s skins, currently at a discount at her closing sale for dekade. This African-American skin is gorgeous with great highlighting. I especially love the eyes and lips. I adjusted my facial features quite substantially on my shape to make the skin make more sense. I am curious if Kira was fitting this skin to a thinner nose because I found it hard to make a nose that made sense.

Queue Marlowe made this absolutely gorgeous updo with an optional band that can be modified to any color you choose through the old-fashioned, scriptless edit and color change. (Honestly, sometimes that’s all it takes, folks—low lag and easy peasy ;)) I wear pretty leaf earrings from Caroline Apollo for this autumn theme and a great texture change bracelet from Julia Tower.

Santa, Baby

I am running around the grid trying to shop for my loved ones for the holiday. I run into men looking at panels with quizzical looks in their faces (even without emoters), their edit beams going back and forth from one panel to the other, totally confused.

Santa, Baby

Well, Santa, Baby, what ladies want is something to make them feel pretty. And if she’s a lady like me, she wants to feel beautiful, and she wants only the best. And you want her to look sexy. I’ve got your answer!

Santa, Baby

LeeZu Baxter just came out with a set of lingerie that includes her own special touches. The lingerie is super sexy, but it also includes her signature artistic flourishes—this time in the manner of silver filigree slashed across the bodice. But the artistry is also in the myriad other details—the silk stockings wrinkled at the knee, the sheen of the satiny ribbons in the garters (one of them twisted, as if put on in haste), the sexy clips barely holding everything together, and the beautiful hand drawn lace along the bodice, stocking tops and panties. Gentlemen, buy your woman a piece of art!

Santa, Baby

I paired this with one of Lorac’s newest skins, only available at her new store at the Icon sim for a mere 10L. (Ten lindens for Pulse!!) For this small amount, you are getting the latest Lorac artistry from the new warmer Life line with a beautiful green shimmering eyeshadow, red holly lips and a dressy cat-eye liner.

Santa Baby

And finally, some cute little slingbacks I got from London Dailey. These are the kind you can kick off quickly, which one would need to be able to do, wearing this outfit ;)

Life of a Showgirl

A friend took me out for a little dancing and role play and dancing last night. We ended up at The New Champagne Rooms owned by Ahnyanka Delphin, where I flirted with and tipped the dancers and sipped way too much champagne.

Life of a Showgirl

A tipsy perusal of the shops around the club took me to Reasonable Desires, where I found this ensemble. I don’t find myself in situations where I need to be a showgirl very often (read: never), however this well done piece was so fun and inexpensive that I decided to give it a try. (I really think it was the champagne that got to me.)

Life of a Showgirl

Martini Joliat has done a great job of making a system piece that fits over the body and echoes the glamour of the showgirl. I could almost feel the weight of the pearls and sequins as they draped over my curves and the tight fitting sheer body suit. The feathers are well rendered with no ghosting or exposed edges (which can be a real problem). I did have to reattach the headdress to another point so I could keep my eyelashes on but that wasn’t a major ordeal.

Life of a Showgirl

I have paired Caroline Apollo’s White Pearl Shoulder Dust Earrings with the outfit and red Belles from Shiny Things.

Life of a Showgirl

We’ll see if I get a chance to wear this again. Who knows? Someday I may end up as a burlesque starlet at the New Champagne Rooms.
