Couer de Parisienne

If you don’t think women in Paris wear high high heels, you are so wrong. I have been there twice and have seen women traipse through the cobblestone streets in the most death defying shoes imaginable. I have also seen them wearing fur coats over short dresses. This blog is entirely true. Kalopsia’s new Paris Je T’Aime region, absolutely gorgeously laid out and rendered, is the scene of my virtual Paris, and my love affair with the city has been renewed.

That being said, my cute little knit dress is one of Asia Rae’s newest, a smexy knit dress in great warm shades (I chose chocolate). Topping is a full fur coat from Cocoro Lemon for Shiny Shabby, an unabashed nod to luxury for this delicious city. Jewelry is a simple set from Monicuzza Babenco for The Dressing Room. And my shoes are a pair from Glamistry, completely impractical, completely sexy.

Sawsan Secretspy is out to please all her customers, so she makes appliers for mesh heads but she appreciates not everyone wants to own one. So she is still putting out beautiful system skins for the ladies who want variety in their look. My ponytail is Mina Nakamura’s for Hairology, which is opening today, giving long bangs to peek out from and a casual elegance for a walk through Paris.

“It’s the children the world almost breaks who grow up to save it.” ~ Frank Warren

It saddens me to say that the people of Syria continue to be at war with themselves with thousands of women and children, no part of the political sphere, dying each day as a result. The situation is complicated; there is no easy solution or intervention.

Today is my son’s 11th birthday. He has a life of unusual comfort and privilege, especially compared to the boys of Syria. Where he has food, they may not. Where he has a superior education, they may not be able to read yet. Where he can feel safe going to bed at night, they may fear death. His drinking water is safe and clean. His mother can cuddle him and assure him all will be all right as I know it will. I have been so fortunate to be able to give my son a wonderful life.

As a mother, my heart aches for the mothers who have to move their children to save them from violence, to feed them, to find shelter for them, sometimes without the assistance of their families or spouses. I feel helpless in the face of this. So all I can do is send my heartfelt wishes to these mothers and children that the crisis in their country will soon end, a wish sent out on my sons’s 11th birthday—from both of us.

That doesn’t mean we can not care about the people of Syria, particularly the children. An international movement, #WithSyria, has gotten attention, and the artist Banksy has made a simple statement by redoing a piece of his/her artwork to reflect this:

It is a revision of this piece of work Banksy created:

A statement on the website reads as follows:

On the 6th March 2011 in the Syrian town of Daraa, fifteen children
were arrested and tortured for painting anti-authoritarian graffiti.
The protests that followed their detention led to an outbreak of violence
across the country that would see a domestic uprising transform into a
civil war displacing 9.3 million people from their homes.

Momentary Bliss

Momentary Bliss

“One instant, you’re just a regular Joe, schlepping through your mundane life, and then suddenly – what is this? – nothing has changed, yet you feel stirred by a grace, swollen with wonder, overflowing with bliss. Everything – for no reason whatsoever – is perfect.” ~ Elizabeth Gilbert

Momentary Bliss

I woke up this morning to fresh snow and bright sunshine, and I made muffins, ate a bowl of perfectly sweet cantaloupe, found a most beautiful piece of music from the KCRW song of the day in my podcasts, a chat with a dear new friend, and received a lovely skin to blog. What more bliss can one have?

I ran off to Leroy to take photos of this beautiful mesh dress by Cocoro Lemon, which she is featuring at the Season’s Story. I tried for white but the vendors were not working well that evening, and I ended up with beige, and with this look, it’s about as aetherial as mesh can get. I decided to keep my accessories to a minimum—a flower ring in my hair from Wisp Jinn and anklet from Caelan Hancroft.

Momentary Bliss

I have to admit one good reason for my bliss was this new skin from Umazuma Petaluna. The face is sublime with depth and a natural beauty which appealed to my mood today. Uma has clearly put a lot of work into this skin, from the beautifully drawn brows to the expressive eyes to the smattering of freckles and gentle blush and the full bee-stung lips. She includes appliers for hands and feet (which is why I could wear my Slink hands and feet and run through the grass barefoot), breasts and butt.

I am wearing Queue Marlowe’s newest hair, which falls on my shoulders in gentle waves and looks beautifully natural with its deep textures and attractive silhouette. Deep eyes from Keiba finish this gorgeous look.

Make New Friends…

 Make New Friends

So this is what happens when some upstart blogger IMs you and gets all sweet and nice and funny. She lets you steal witty things from her profile. She dishes with you about her partner. Then, she sneaks up and asks to take your photo because of a blogger challenge. She asks you to look like yourself (whatever that is anymore, I am not sure). And then she takes your photo and you look like a billion bucks (see below).

Harper & Rainey

Rainey Manx, authoress of No Rainey Days, IM’d me and flattered me with her request to take my photo to answer Harlow Heslop’s question about what blogger inspires her. I was thrilled because Rainey’s work is incredible—she puts beauty into every piece she does (and I am incredibly envious because my PS and art skills stink). I was putty in her hands.

Make New Friends

Did we intend to dress to match? Nope. But that’s how similar we are in aesthetic–it all seemed to work. I can only talk about what I threw on; Rainey’s babeitude speaks for itself (and she has more at her blog). I started with a minidress and scarf from Trill Zapatero, who tempted me with several things at her store. I love the funky look of her things, their casual sexy hippy dippy coolness. All proceeds from sales at her store go to help Afghan women, so it appeals to my charitable side as well.

Make New Friends

My hair is my namesake from my someday partner Queue Marlowe (whenever Callie dumps me). Queue made the hair and then I sent a photo of RL Harper and we agreed—it matches. My skin, like Rainey’s, comes from Nena Janus’ beautiful mind.

Most importantly, our eyes come from a man we both hold dear to our heart—Ikon Innovia. I would like to think I am the reason they are together but I am guessing it’s more because of his devastating charm and her incredible wit and spirit. It seems Ikon lucked out. So did I in making a new friend :)

Knitting with Balls

Everyone is wondering where I have been this weekend. I have been knitting. It’s kind of become an obsession. And there is a half price sale on yarn at Michael’s. Goodness—this spells trouble. I found a book about men knitting called “Knitting with Balls,” and some of the best knitters I see online are male. So today I am a male knitter.

Knitting with Balls

The needles are put away. Our guy came up with this great sweater. Some of the best knitters are I know are male so this pattern would have been no difficulty. (The truth is that Floatie Hock made this terrific sweater. Just play along with me here.) His jeans are manly work jeans from Callie Cline, who knows what she likes in men.

Knitting with Balls

Our guy’s skin is an exclusive at the Euphoria sim and a new offering from Brox Riaxik. With its very defined features, it’s not malleable to just any shape but once you find the right one, it’s a great look and you won’t run around looking like every other guy. I really like the eyebrows and the whisker work, and his eyes are beautifully expressive. My scarf is woven by Tyr Rozenblum–not knitted but the skull cap is something our guy whipped up while he was laid up with rugby injuries (dude is manly—really!). Cocoro Lemon provided the pattern and the yarn.

Caught in the Rain

City girls who run around town know you shouldn’t be caught without an umbrella these days. The weather is turning colder, the leaves are mostly off the trees, and a rainstorm could come down at any time on a gray day to drench you, so it pays to be prepared.

Caught in the Rain

First, have your umbrella. Second, have a good warm coat like this one from cocoro Lemon. I love how cocoro has styled the coat with a cheetah print inside. This coat is so authentic, from its dangling laces to its hood to its untailored silhouette. She was smart to make the coat open and a little oversized—it’s the cheetah that gives it zing. I donned pants from Uriah Eulenberg that I got in a set I purchased at a Designers United event. Made for men, the pants are high waisted knickers with a great wool tweedy texture. Blessedly, they look great on women too. I layer cheetah print leggings from Anyusha Lilienthal underneath, part of her animal series. And a cheetah print top from Mimikri Kit, picked up at a recent Dressing Room foray, completes my outfit.

Caught in the Rain

Mallory Cowen still presents some of the freshest skins on the grid and her new Phoebe2 is no exception. Once again we have the unbeatable glow that Mallory advertises, the finely shaped eyebrows, the expressive eye makeups, the pretty lips and the great skin tones.

Onyx LeShelle recently came out with a new slew of content—hair and shoes. I have not had a chance to check out the shoes, but I certainly liked her new hair selections, especially as they show movement and life despite the static nature of sculpties. (Though she has always been good at making hair look less like a prim on the head and more like individual strands making a whole.) I loved this hair for this look—anyone caught in the rain would be a bit disheveled.

Caught in the Rain

Gospel Voom has recently come out with a new set of women’s boots and they are fabulous and chic, especially when one might be concerned that Gospel can only do clunky Doc Martens. These are well-built with a gorgeous sculpty shape and absolutely brilliant leather textures. I love the little leather tie.

Caught in the Rain

a wind has blown the rain away and blown
the sky away and all the leaves away,
and the trees stand. I think i too have known
autumn too long

Delhi Girl

A certain kind of chic girl can be found on the streets of New Delhi. Young, educated, chic, a bit materialistic, a little spoiled but definitely motivated and driven—she is the future.

Delhi Girl

This is our girl on her day off. With her cropped top from Daihn Gutter (which is omg- inexpensive), designer jean shorts, rolled up, from LeeZu Baxter, and her killer shoes from nut Barak, our girl rushes from one appointment to another—lunch, library, friends, shopping.

Delhi Girl

She still likes a little traditional touch, so she wears beads and bracelets with beautiful patterns, these made by Zaara Kohime. Her bag has her stuff—iPad, Vogue, water, sunscreen. (I have to pause to thank Erehwon Yoshikawa for the tip. She and I both have iPads in RL so she had to clue me in on this great gift for Coco group members.)

Her skin is the luscious new Ada by sanalyildiz Yalin. It’s great to see a dark skin so contemporarily made with a modern woman’s sensibilities, sexy highlighting, strong eyebrows and luscious lips. Her hair was styled by Truth Hawks, a new casually messy style just up in his store.

Delhi Girl

The shoes? She got these when she was in Europe, made by Nut Barak. They are perfect for a girl like her—beautifully made of the finest materials, high heeled to make her more statuesque, and perfect for showing off her fresh pedicure. Her father rolled his eyes when he saw the bills but he knows she has been studying hard.

The Woman with the Accent

Ever meet a woman of indeterminate origin? You know who I mean.. one who has an accent that you can’t quite place, a look and manner that is so eclectic you can’t say, oh, she’s from Boston or Buenos Aires or Berlin or Bangkok. All you know is she is not from your own small town.

The Woman with the Accent

She’s really nice, friendly, interesting when you meet her at your cousin’s boss’ wife’s cocktail party. She will tell you a story about where she got her lace top, this one being from Sissy Pessoa. “I found it in this very interesting boutique in Milan,” she’ll tell you. “And the woman there—what an artist! She sewed each button herself!” You’ll hear the perfect way she says “Milan” and inspect the top, which is indeed made of the finest black Italian lace, and conclude she has to be Italian.

She catches you checking out her skirt and leggings, and she explains she got them in Japan from this great designer, cocoro Lemon. “There is something so marvelous about feathers,” she laughs as she pushes around the food on her plate with her chopsticks, picking up the sushi appetizer with such skill, you would swear she was Japanese.

The Woman with the Accent

She seems to be eating but none of ever it goes in her mouth or so it seems because her bold red lipstick is never smudged. Then you will compliment her makeup and she’ll tell you all about this great American artist, Lorac Farella, who has created a most unique makeup line that combines a gothic and pale look for the average woman, so she has a darker and more elegant look. And then you think, hm, she has to be from New York.

The Woman with the Accent

She fluffs her flexi ostrich feathered skirt and your eyes travel down to her boots as she sets down her plate still full of food (she *looked* like she was eating but nothing went down). The boots, leather with zippers all over, are also from Japan—the same cocoru Lemon, she explains. “Ah Tokyo!” she smiles. She sets down her empty champagne glass (the second one—she DOES seem to be swallowing that down), scans the crowd looking for the next person to speak to, and gives you a sweet little smile. “Nice meeting you,” she says. “Toodle-loo!”

Stalking the Deal

The deal—it can be right there before your eyes, but to get your hands on it, to finally close—that requires a certain amount of stalking and cunning.

Stalking the Deal

For a woman, it’s sometimes harder to close the deal. The pressure about how you present is so strong—too sexual and you’re a mindless bimbo, too conservative and you’re unimaginative and frumpy. This look, put together from several elements, represents a woman who has sex appeal but also knows how to “git ‘er done” and done right. She doesn’t sacrifice her sexuality or femininity for a boring suit and she doesn’t sacrifice her integrity for bad business.

Onyx LeShelle helps break out of the boring suit trap with her new jacket (part of a set of clothing and shoes just released at Maitreya). With its almost tailored silhouette, it lacks the button-uptightness of most suits with its neutral linen colors and almost mandarin color. (And blessedly, the sculpties are mod so you can line the plackets up).

Stalking the Deal

Underneath a leopard print silk top, which I made from combining Morphine Janick’s bra with violett Ellils’ top (which lacked “coverage” when worn alone). Each piece separately would be too revealing. Together they worked. Long wool shorts from Migi Voom complete the look, showing a shapely leg but also provide a tailored and professional look.

The jewelry is where our businesswoman gets her touch of style. With leopard print hoops from violett Ellils and beautifully textured wild bangles from kikunosuke Eel, she pushes into the realm of dangerous (and she’s clearly careful about the details). Who wouldn’t want to seal the deal with her?

Stalking the Deal

Finally, shoes from cocoro Lemon. With their closed toe and black heel, they are quite conservative. It’s the open back and the wild (and just gorgeous) leopard skin fur that makes them outstanding and makes our lady command attention—for all the right reasons.

Stalking the Deal
