Mollena

Mollena

Mollena before I met you
I’d always walked the line
I know you’d leave me
If I let you
The blame’s entirely mine
Cause I could fall into a whole world of trouble over you

~ “Mollena” by James Hunter

Mollena

Remember that girl in school who got every boy’s attention just by being who she was—she exuded some energy, some spirit and life that turned boys’ eyes? I knew several girls like this. As years passed, their stories always turned out to be a sad for whatever reason. Despite being able to capture any boy’s attention, they always chose the worst ones—the bad boys—and it always turned for the worse. No one can sustain that kind of energy forever.

My Mollena here is in tribute to the beauty who captured the boys’ attention. All sorts of boys fell into a world of trouble over her. From her slinky tank top from Betty Doyle (a great separate that can span tons of looks—from retro to contemporary) to little black capris from Ivey Deschanel, Mollena has a look that’s rockin’. Accessories from Dick Wiesel (who has this belt out in color change) and Nyte Caligari make the look. And of course, high heels from Teresa Republic turn cute into sexy.

Mollena

The real story here is the skin and hair. First, this skin from Helyanwe Vindaloo is fresh and pretty—youthful but not kewpie-doll. The eyeliners in this series are fantastic—I opted for this modified cat-eye, which looks smokin’ hot without being over made-up on this pale skin. My hair is from Kavar Cleanslate’s newest color set—Evolution. I love how he includes roots with the hair—we all have them as the hair grows out and lightens as it gets long. The style reminds me of that girl in school—she wore it short and feathered and sassy just like this. (She’s divorced with three kids now. *sigh*)

Optimistic

I am writing this while listening to Radiohead and in pure bliss. It’s a beautiful day out, I have new headphones, I got a full night’s sleep and I have some cute clothes! Today’s summer-kissed outfit features, first of all, patched jeans from Dick Wiesel. With their cute but sexy look and variable patches (depending on what color you get), they are a great go-to for a more colorful jeans look. (Dick named these “Cherry Pie” after the Warrant song. Way to play the age card, Dick!)

My top is a frilly beautiful from Maria Gherardi. These are available in several colors but I had to hunt her store down because the main store sim is gone. My shoes are older but no less amazing mules from Fallingwater Cellardoor.

Optimistic

My tan lines come courtesy of Monicuzza Babenco, who takes tan one step sexier with a bikini line. (I had to show the lines—it’s really nicely done). The makeup is sensuous and fresh. My mane is courtesy of Truth Hawks, who has not yet run out of sexy women’s names for his hair.

Sophie Roux

That one girl who always runs around with barefeet but bothers to get her toenails painted and who nonchalantly ties a scarf around her neck yet it perfectly matches and who can wear her hair up as if she just put it that way without thinking—that’s the Sophie Roux in the song. I always wanted to be this girl. Never happened but I can make her in SL. It’s easy with these great pieces, including a cute little tank from Betty Doyle and new jeans from Dick Wiesel.

Add all the little accessories—the darling double banded watch from Menno Ophelia, the scarf from Noelle Eilde, an artsy ring from Julia Merosi, and this seemingly uncalculated look comes together—especially with the perfect bare feet from Siddean Munro.

Sophie Roux

The completion of this is Rhapzody Wilde’s skin, a fresh face she debuted at the Skin Fair (and which I purchased and never got around to showing—ack!). Rhapzody has a clear fan base, one that appreciates her eye for fantasy but also her down-to-earth attitude. Kianna (the skin) is not glamorous but she’s certainly fascinating. My hair is a new up-do from Truth Hawks. I wonder when he is going to run out of styles? I can’t imagine how he keeps coming up with them. Finally my alluring eyes are another set from Ikon Innovia.

:. WoE .: at Fashion for Life

Dick Wiesel has been bringing sexy casual to SL for three years, giving girls and guys the kind of grungy burnished look that takes them out of the fantasy ballrooms and plunks them into a more revved up real life.

Woe at Fashion for Life

Did I mention sexy? Dick seems to have some secret sauce in his clothes that he adds that makes them simmer with a sort of understated sexiness. Yes, there are bared midriffs but rarely do you see something overtly skin baring.

Woe at Fashion for Life

It’s as if Dick’s fantasy of sexy is the girl next door, amped up a little with some grunge, some complex textures and some easy casual. I mean, Dick’s favorite girl looks sexy in sweats and a loose tank top.

Woe at Fashion for Life

Dick also offers some great looks for men, along the same line, and he will be showing all this and FIVE new offerings at Fashion for Life, which is open NOW. Dick generously and unhesitatingly offered to sponsor a sim, offering his brand name and an ample donation to support the American Cancer Society. The sim he sponsors, Shulman, has been lauded by Tyr Rozenblum as “bad ass.” Come see it and all the great stores on it and the other eight sims.

Say a Little Prayer

The moment I wake up
Before I put on my makeup
I say a little prayer for you
While combing my hair, now,
And wondering what dress to wear, now,
I say a little prayer for you

Say a Little Prayer

Whenever I hear the song “Say a Little Prayer,” I think about the woman in the song—a pretty young Marlo Thomas type (even though it’s always an African-American woman singing it.. hmm) with white Mary Jane platform heels and a jar of bobby pins on her dresser and nylons hanging to dry in her little apartment. But who is she saying a prayer for and where is he? She goes off to work on the bus, has a coffee break, and says a prayer for him. He’s on her mind. Considering the song came out in 1967, I am guessing he is away at war. Of course, Burt Bacharach wrote the song—he was the master of catching the zeitgeist of his age and rolling it into a catchy pop tune.

This outfit really has nothing to do with the song except I was hearing Aretha Franklin singing it when I took the photos, and the kind of retro jacket from monica Outlander with its big buttons and oversized Peter Pan-shaped collar and my little plaid mini skirt from Anyusha Lilienthal seem a little 60s. (Now the front cut up to there on the jacket, the drawstring waist on the skirt and the decidedly 2010s technology of sculpties is hardly 60s. Come to think of it, remember when polyester was the new space age material in the 60s. I consider sculpties our polyester—wait until meshes come. We’re gonna seem so old fashioned!)

Say a Little Prayer

I have donned one of Tuli Asturias’ revised Eva skins. It seems she has extracted the lip colors and cleavages to put them on a tattoo layer to match the tattoo layer technology of SL. I have also tried on one of her simple eyeliners, sold for a reasonable price. If you’re going to wear her skins, might as well grab the tattoo layers.

Say a Little Prayer

My darling believe me,
For me there is no one
But you.

~ “Say a Little Prayer” as sung by Aretha Franklin.

Hand-Knit Sweater

As many of you know, I have become a wee bit obsessed with knitting. I have joined two knitting groups, meet with them twice a week, spend other stolen moments in my new favorite store, the Knitting Knook, and go to sleep reading knitting patterns. (Yes, really!) I have made quick friends with Aphrodite, who is an avid knitter and spinner and who often gives me sage advice (like, “aw, rinse it in conditioner and it won’t itch so much.”) Some day, when I am feeling adventurous and more able, I will knit a sweater.

Hand-Knit Sweater

Until then, I will have to enjoy the handiwork of artists like Dick Wiesel. Dick has fashioned a set of sweaters that are absolutely glorious in his use of colors. I am guessing he purchased some fine self-striping wool, a blend that makes the sweater less itchy but just as warm and wearable, and whipped out these sweaters while watching a few football games. (And if you don’t think men can knit, they sure can!) I love this sweater—it will be one of those favorites I wear over and over—a comfort sweater. My pants are actually capris from Maya Levane with a great subtle plaid.

Hand-Knit Sweater

My glorious hair is from the equally glorious Queue Marlowe. The hair base you see on my head is actually from a set of hair base tattoos that Queue is offering for free to be worn with her hair. They are incredibly well done and match her prim hair perfectly. This way you don’t have to settle for the dark hair base on the skin you bought—your hair will match. This bouncy and charming ponytail is one of Queue’s new offerings as well. My plain and pretty makeup is an offering from Rhapzody Wilde, who offers an alternative set of skins for girls who don’t want to be so much glam as just plain pretty.

All Is Full of Love

All is full of love when LeeZu Baxter comes out with something new, at least for me. Her latest release are these funky jodhpurs (which also come as long pants and then can’t be called jodhpurs, I suppose, but I am not going to sweat it). Once again LeeZu combines skills with an artistic eye to give us a great silhouette chock full of visual delights. One thing I love about LeeZu’s work is that she is not afraid to combine textures and does so well, understanding proportion very well. Her plaid is JUST the right size and repeat. Her stripes are neither too wide or too skinny. And she makes ingenious clothing that could be walking across RL catwalks or down RL streets on the chicest fashionistas.

I pair it with a top from a dress by Dick Wiesel, another guy who does great textures. This match was perfect in feeling because the texture is well done and matches the sophistication of LeeZu’s pants but it is not overdone with prims. Pants like these would have a form-fitting top. Then I top it with a great scarf from Mika Nieuport—again it’s all about the textures. Tights from Maria Gherardi and boots created by Enktan Gully and textured by LeeZu Baxter and I have quite the ensemble.

All Is Full of Love

Another wonderful artist is Nena Janus. I could not pull this look off so well if I had a less quality skin. I keep putting on her new Amber set and being amazed. My long lustrous locks are a killer ‘do from Truth Hawks. I am guessing this will become one of the signature looks in SL—a iconic hair—because women just love long curly locks almost as much as men do ;)

All Is Full of Love

your doors are all shut

Welcome Back, Casja!

One of the members of our fashion bloggers group, Casja, has been literally “away from keyboard” taking care of personal RL stuff. Casja has always been a cheerful and knowledgeable contributor to our group as she is a prolific blogger herself at It’s Only Fashion. Her positive attitude, thoughtful commentary, and kind and generous demeanor has always made SL a better place. Her absence was truly felt. The frequent reports from her BFF Gidge in Plurk assured us she was coming back soon, and now she is back, all I can say is “Welcome Back, Casja!”

While Casja can’t dance in RL yet, I hope she finds an opportunity to do so on SL soon. Her friend Maht (whom she introduced me to) will be having his annual 26.2 hour Mahrathon to raise money for Heifer International’s Honduras Project. This means Maht will sit his butt down at his computer for 26.2 hours to spin tunes to help raise money–all by himself. He does the playlist, he spins the tunes (which are top-class selections), he suffers the consequences to his health and sleep habits. Last year he got $600, which all went to Heifer International. This year he hopes to meet or beat that figure.

The insanity starts at the Velvet (the original alt club in SL) on Friday, December 3 at 2:48 pm SLT (don’t ask me why that time exactly) and will end at 5:00 pm SLT the next day, at which time Maht will retire to his bed and sleep for 14 hours straight. Every donor will receive FREE donated content (last year I got some nice things like a t-shirt and jewelry).

Welcome Back!

In honor of Casja’s return, I put on a party dress—something for going to a club and dancing the night away. Dick Wiesel knows all about a good party with his short, sexy dresses. This one, from his new Nomi series, includes his beautiful grungy denim textures and a clever prim at the bust that makes the top look like it’s stretched across (as opposed to clinging to the avatar) plus a sexy tie in back. I love the belt with its double buckles on each side.

Welcome Back!

My skin is from Nena Janus’ newest line, and it’s a stunner in this coloring. I would say that our girl’s self-satisfied smile here is because she looks so darn good. I really like how Nena renders the makeup on the face, the beautiful collarbone, the almost sensuous body features. Nothing is over-dodged, which I am seeing a lot in skins these days but shimmers with a pretty sunkissed glow.

The hair is a new one from Truth Hawks, called Joey. I love its punk look. I tried it on yesterday when I was styling my guy, thinking “Joey” was for a men’s hair. It didn’t look right on my guy but it looks smashing on my girl.

Welcome Back!

My boots are from a new line by Sissy Pessoa. They come in plain colors or exotic skins like this brown python you see here. With the sassily tied ribbon of leather around the ankle, the stiletto heel and side zip, and the gorgeous toe, this boot is sure to make your wardrobe sexier just by being there.

Welcome Back!

Lest you all think I am getting soft in my old age with yellow and sweet things, I thought I might do something a little edgier today.

Click

Black is easy to carry off in RL and SL but making black interesting is another challenge altogether. In this case, I wear black with skin breaking up the look and white to offset it. LeeZu Baxter has come out with a great new knit jacket, one made in her one inimitable style with a groovy shapes and textures. The sleeves alone warrant a second look as that zipper IS a sculpty with every tooth popping out in 3D (none of this drawn-in zipper stuff for LeeZu). The texture up close is a knit (which you know I like) and the lining has a groovy argyle appearance.

My tank is from Dick Wiesel, who likes to cut his tops a little short. (Not enough fabric, Dick?) For this look it’s entirely appropriate and matches the jacket seamlessly. Again, I show boots from LeeZu Baxter and Enktan Gully. I love these boots too much. Pants are from Genie Lassard and I cover the silly top open button with a great leather belt from Tya Fallingbridge that fits my avatar perfectly and has groovy fringes hanging down.

Click

Mallory Cowen has one heck of a midriff on her skins. Toned and sexy, the skin glows and my boobs aren’t squished together in the top (which would make no sense when I am clearly not wearing a lot of support up there). Finally, this punky hair from Mirja Mills completes the look perfectly with its blue streaks, asymmetrical cut and crazy who-cares curls popping out all over.

A Good Old-Fashioned Murder

I received a note the other day that Dick Wiesel had been murdered. Now, being this was SL, it was clearly virtual murder and being that the man behind the avatar left a long exposition in my blog, I was pretty certain he was still alive. However, for fun, let’s pretend he’s dead and Ryker, his partner, is on the path of vengeance. (Be careful folks. She shoots first and asks questions later.) Our girl here seems a likely suspect.

A Good Old-Fashioned Murder

First we have to ask about motive. Considering Dick is offering a whole slew of nice items during this promotion, including this dress, I think we can safely conclude motive. Our woman is wearing the final prize for the murder mystery, the belted miniskirt Nomi Jean Dress. Please note the fine original template work, the grungified jean texture and the stitching along the hem and wicked wrinkles. Best of all is the belt—well constructed and textured, the belt makes the dress. And the dress makes a girl desperate, and no man, not even Dick Wiesel can get in her way when she wants one like this.

Her jacket? No sign of struggle or gunpowder. Good thing too because sunami Beck has made a cute short leather jacket that can be worn again and again as a pop of color for any outfit. The 80s feel to this jacket (epitomized by the turquoise and those angular studs on the collar) make our killer either retro or horribly behind the times. Or perhaps she’s so chic she is deadly..?

A Good Old-Fashioned Murder

She’s a cool one, isn’t she? Not a drop of sweat on her brow after doing whatever she did to poor Dick. Her calm demeanor is provided by Kira Ahn from the Dressing Room Blue. With her glowing clear skin (unlike her  conscience), our potential killer could almost be accused of killing with her good looks. Add to the look her wild and wavy hair from Truth Hawks, and we are looking at a woman with danger on her mind.

A Good Old-Fashioned Murder

Finally, our sexy suspect is traipsing around in a pair of nut Barak’s new Crush pumps, and these are the key to the means of murder. Check out the details on these beauties–the platform sole, the sheen of the leather, the piping, and of course, the chains. What nut fails to tell in his informational notecards (about resizing, LOD factor, bleah bleah bleah) is that the stainless steel heel is hollow and can hide a very interesting treasure.. and weapon. Remove the heel and you can tuck in a syringe with enough sedative to fell an elephant—or Dick Wiesel ;)

A Good Old-Fashioned Murder

Dick and Ryker have set up a whole entertaining murder mystery (which has nothing to do with my silly story above), complete with HUD (programmed by Ryker—what can’t she do?) and little gifties along the way at Skull Creek. Bored some night? Check it out.
