On the Porch

Fall is a time of a lot of running around. School’s going again, the harvest is coming in (and if you think that’s silly, it’s not—I have a fridge full of vegetables I have to do something with), the garden has to be cleared, leaves have to be raked. And meanwhile we are clinging to the last few warm days for a long time with evening descending ever earlier. So it’s hard to sit still and just… relax and enjoy.  I ran around SL shopping in this outfit from Cecilia Blachere, who does amazing textures on mesh. Check out the suede on this skirt and the beautiful knit of this sweater. I accessorized with new pieces from Monicuzza Babenco, including a darling handbag which comes with a HUD to change the inside part so you have a nice neutral bag with optional details to change.

Kuranosuke Kamachi’s beautiful new style tops this look in a very lovely way. I am trying another skin made for Logo heads on the new Chloe. This is the skin offered by Otyebis for Shiny Shabby and I would say it lies on the Chloe head in a very interesting way. There is a lot to love—the pores on the skin, the skin tone, the nicely drawn brows (though not their placement), the pretty lips. But something is just not working quite right. I tried to make it work for me—changing out eyes, clicking different lashes on the HUD, but I think the nature of how these skins are made, they want a tiny, widely spaced round eye and narrow nose, which this head doesn’t quite have.

I debated which version of this song to feature, but the one by Shocking Blue had to win because it was the original. This is a look that fell into place and the song came right to mind. First I got this great dress from Mariska Simons, a sexy wrap dress with bejeweled straps and a great texture change HUD that allows five texture choices and four choices for the jewels. With great shadowing and textures, it’s drop-dead sexy. I paired it with great platform shoes from Tatyana Ultsch that she is featuring at Vanity Fair, which include a HUD with what seem a kazillion texture possibilities. I included two jewelry pieces I picked up at the Dressing Room Fusion—a great cuff from AvaGardner Kungler and big terrific earrings from Ekilem Melodie.

Inka Mexicola has come out with a new skin, delectable and dreamy and a perfect palette for dressing up with makeup from Constance Daehlie. I love Constance’s luscious lips and her perfection with eye makeup liners. My high ponytail from MissAllSunday Lemon is a welcome change to the long hair styles all over the place, a great look with bangs for a sexy, almost-domme look. A message of love, of plain simple love, seems a good one to forward. We’re here just to love one another. Let’s also love fashion and the color red, which I am doing today. Let’s go bottom up and start with these darling shoes, which are Cyclic Gearz’ offering for 21Shoe, only available in this color and another on November 21 at her store at a 2-for-1 price. My skirt is a darling mesh piece from nodoka Vella that she has marked as a sale item at her store. And my top from Ugly Frog and Eeky Cioc I found by word of mouth and what a word! The top comes with a texture change HUD that allows endless variations on different parts of the top—the main, the buttons, the ribbed bottom and the sheer blouse. The mesh fits perfectly and the detailing is amazing. AND it’s made to fit over other things, which so much mesh fails to do. Perfect!

I have Inka Mexicola’s lovely and inexpensive skin from The Dressing Room Fusion on again, this time with blonde brows. I can’t imagine how anyone would pass up grabbing this set from TDRF because it’s so lovely in details and the lips are pure lusciousness. Nicole Button’s new eyes make this look, especially with Kavar Cleanslate’s pretty, side parted long hair for Collabor88.

I have been keeping this wonderful poem in mind for a blog for months now. It’s one of my very favorite YouTube poetry performances because I am the “girl who reads”! (Latest book: The Magician King by Lev Grossman.) One of the greatest pleasures in my life is reading, as my five dedicated readers of this blog know. So I think Mark Grist and I have a date with destiny because I “love the classics and the classics are dirty.”

I put together this look inspired by Kaśyapa, who sent me the stack of books from Nama Gearz and helped me find the glasses from damascusvera, and his inspiration reminded me of this great poem. It all fell into place once he helped me. This sweater dress from Kinu Mayako is one of her exclusives at the Thrift Shop, marked down because everything at Thrift Shop is marked down. It includes a texture change HUD that allows different choices for the collar and cuffs and the main sweater. My leggings from Soda Domela are a gacha at the Thrift Shop and includes a Phat Azz applier. My darling boots are a set from Cyclic Gears that she is selling at The Pier Market for their sea monster theme and are 50% off for the event through the month of November.

I kind of thought this new skin from Inka Mexicola looks like that bookish girl from the American TV show, Modern Family, played by Ariel Winter. She has the same glowing skin, luscious pretty features, blushing cheeks and voluptuousness that Inka’s skin has. This pretty skin is available at the Dressing Room Fusion at a ridiculously low price.

My colored toque is a fabulous hair from Nix Marabana, who includes the hat and hair with a great texture change HUD that includes a lot more hat choices than this one. Kaśyapa led me to these dorky glasses from damascusvera and of course, sent me books from Naima Gearz because he knows I am a girl who likes to read.

The Aptitude to Fly

The EB Awareness Event started yesterday and was quite a success with a full sim and lots of people shopping. Epidermolysis Bullosa is a rare disease that affects 1 in 50,000 children born throughout the world as a result of a genetic disorder. It varies in severity among its sufferers. It is characterized by a defect between the anchoring of the skin between the epidermis (top layer of skin) and the dermis (second layer). People who suffer from EB suffer from skin fragility, blistering and constant pain. “Butterfly Children” is what kids with the disorder are called due to the fragility of their skin so a lot of the décor sold at the fair has butterflies on it.

Kaerri Rae has made an entire set of furniture with monarch butterflies as the motif especially for this event with a large chunk of her income going to DEBRA of America. She offers two sets: one in white with dark gray accents and one in dark gray with white accents. Depending on your décor, you can choose a set and use the pieces with your own existing furniture. I set up two little nooks to show the set, and I included a few other pieces that will be sold at the EB Awareness event, including a darling lamp from Plato Novo.

 

 

My sweater is also being sold at the event, a generous offer from Parallax Resident. The sweater comes with a texture-change HUD for some great sweater options. I have seen this in the men’s version too and it’s terrific. Portions of the sale of this sweater go to DEBRA of America. My jeans are a pair of great bell bottoms that Datrip Blackbart has at the Vintage  & Cool fair in several colors. My shoes, which I adjusted to my Slink feet, are from Renee Harvy and can be worn without the feet. My handbag is one of the gacha items at Miffhoi Rosca’s kiosk at Season’s Story.

Mochi Milena did an amazing job on the extensive skins she created for this month’s androgynous theme at Genre. I already knew that she put considerable effort into creating options for fembois and women who want cleavage and makeups. I really appreciate that Mochi offers these options to people who want to explore their identity. My hair is Mina Nakamura’s latest for the Dressing Room Fusion and so perfect for the season with a texture change hat as well as the mesh hair. Love this look!

I just started reading Hopscotch by Jose Cortazar, recommended this weekend by a friend. But I had just started Behind the Beautiful Forevers from Keatherine Boo, which won a scad of awards and deservingly so. It’s amazing. But then last night someone told me to read A Sand County Almanac, so of course, I couldn’t wait and cracked that open. So I’ll probably find quotes from each one to share here.

This outfit reminded me of Cortazar’s description in the first chapter of his mixed-up book, a lady named Maga, who accompanies him through Paris on many adventures. (If you read the book and Maga turns out to be a poop, don’t tell me. I just read the first chapter so far.) I loved his description of this woman, and I thought it suited this look, a sophisticated beauty. I have assembled a set of mesh pieces on the Belleza body to prove, once again, that is quite doable. First, a top from one dress made by Nevery Lorakeet with a sheer panel on top and a lovely blousing that leads to a belt I found in inventory from Fhara Acacia (search: “belt,” scroll). My skirt is part of a dress from GraceHaddington that she will be putting out at Designer Showcase this month. With its perfectly shaded texture and flirty shape, it’s a great piece even without its accompanying jacket and worth it at the price. A handbag from Monicuzza Babenco from The Dressing Room and heels I retrofitted to the Belleza feet from Aleida Rhode (originally meant for Slink feet but nonrigged, so I could make them work), and the outfit is complete.

I am, as I said, wearing the Belleza body. Why? Well, frankly, I love being able to switch my hands and feet at the touch of a HUD button rather than searching through my inventory for the many separate pieces that make up separate mesh hands and feet. I was able to match my body skin pretty nicely to Sawsan Secretspy’s new Lolita skin, which she recently released at her store. I got Karla Marama’s hair at the Dressing Room. The sleek, low style is very nice though the rigging still needs a little work (saw some breaks in turning my head and pieces obscuring my face). It’s not the most sophisticated mesh hair. For a discount you can get bright colors at the event but regular hair colors like this were bundled for a higher price.

Some girls can show up at a formal event with a streak of purple in their hair and a neck full of gems and pull it off. Usually it’s the heiress, the one who doesn’t need to worry if anyone else thinks she looks good—she knows she does. A sexy formal like the newest one from Poulet Koenkamp sets the tone. With sexy shiny satin stretched across the bodice, a low cut back and slits up the sides, this dress is elegant with quite a bit of oomph. With an optional faux fur stole, it’s clearly haute couture.

Paired with Zuri Lyric’s gems, which were made especially to match this gown, it’s this side of over the top glamour. The jewelry comes with many pieces—rings, bracelets, a necklace, earrings—so you have several pieces for mix and match and additionally a texture-change HUD so you can choose metals, gem colors, stone colors and drop colors to cook up a great look.

I am loving the new skin from Inka Mexicola that is at the Dressing Room Fusion so much I had to show the other version, which includes a lustrous purple eye make-up. Inka gets that bright eye make-up needs a neutral lip and I love the color combo on here.

I am wearing Kavar Cleanslate’s sexy, post-apocalyptic hair for Uber with the outfit. This is where our heiress deviates from the norm, where she can add edge to the otherwise old-school Hollywood look she has going, especially since I chose one of Kavar’s “Wild Fusion” mixes. Our heiress asserts her independence, her edginess wit this gorgeous hair, making the whole look postmodern.

I’m reading Special Topics in Calamity Physics right now and rather enjoying it, so I snagged one of Dad’s pithy ideas for my quote. I hope you’re living grandly as I am. Biography or not, I’ll look good. Start with my slinky party dress from Lisanna Lauria. She has this at District 5 in several colors for girls who like to go out look chic. With a criss-crossed back, it’s really sexy. Paired with wedge sandals from Antonia Millar, also from District 5, which include a great texture-change HUD for different choices, and AvaGardner Kungler’s bracelet for the Dressing Room Fusion.

Sometimes I need to break out the leather and the piercings and just get a little punk. I had all this good stuff around and I put it together and boom! Start with the great jacket/shirt combo from Tatyana Ultsch. This absolutely awesome jacket comes with a HUD that allows tons of variations (stripes on or off, different belt looks, dozens of t-shirt textures or none at all). I made sure the stripes were on to match Eudora3D’s skirt for We <3 RP. My kick ass boots are mesh delights from LeeZu Baxter that she came out with not too long ago.

My skin is a great deal at The Dressing Room Fusion. If you want to get into Inka Mexicola’s stuff at a good price, this is the way to do it. I punked it up with liner and lips from Constance Daehlie, who I seem to be a showing a lot of lately. It’s a go-to for me. Those beautiful gray eyes are from Umazuma Metaluna’s set at Chapter Four. Hasuko Kuramoto brought out these mesh ears not long ago and I made my own earrings from full perm pieces from LCorse. And my updo? A brutally brilliant bun from Kattington.

Meeting Ebbe

One of the (few) privileges of being the webperson for SL11B is when something good happens, I get an in. I logged in yesterday, prepared to shoot this blog and Doc IM’d saying Ebbe Linden was at SL11B and did I want to come? Well, dang, yes, there is nothing better than seeing a CEO in the wild, and there he was, talking up a blue streak (literally blue because his text appears blue in Firestorm), charming the visitors to Jo Yardley’s biergarten in her 1920s Berlin exhibit at SL11B. (I did ask Jo about pretzels. Our own biergarten serves them!) He was clearly interested in what was going on and interacting with people. It was good to see him in world.

He didn’t talk to me really. I am sure he saw me because I was one of the taller folks there (statuesque–not absurd– and there were a lot of child avis around). I am glad I wore this dress from Cameron Velinov, which is her 1L GIFT at the Summer Fashion Festival (omgah!). It includes a texture change HUD with this same pattern in several color ways. (Yes, I wore a 1L dress to meet Ebbe Linden.) I paired Maxi Gossamer’s summery and fun earrings and sandals from Collabor88 with the look. The whole ensemble comes off as elegant casual, not too goofy or sexy.

Of course, MissAllSunday Lemon’s braid makes it work with a simplicity and beauty that matches the look of the dress. I love the tendrils coming loose, which just adds a touch of romantic to the look. My skin is Inka Mexicola’s lovely offering for the Dressing Room Fusion. With luscious lips and a bit of sparkle to the shadow, it’s ideal for a summer visit to the biergarten to meet Ebbe (or at least see and be seen).
