Soon the butterflies will be out, flitting around flowers, spreading joy. I can’t wait. In the meantime, I can fill my home with colors and butterflies, specifically this furniture Kaerri Rae is selling at the EB Awareness Event with part of the proceeds going to Debra of America for research into Epidermolysis Bullosa. I wrote about the disease and a classmate who had it yesterday, but as I was listening to this song by Mariah Carey, I was thinking about the bravery of the parents of such children. The song talks about letting some you love spread their wings and fly and for a parent of a child who is so easily injured, what a leap of faith to let their butterfly out into the dangerous world. That’s why support of the patients of EB is so important. It would be wonderful to see these Butterfly Children fly.

I wear Ivy Burner’s darling sun dress for the Monochromatic Fair. This is a kind of essential party piece in my mind—perfect for casual dances, beach parties or shopping. The flowered texture is almost retro and the lined hem and belt makes the dress pop. My shoes from Pill Kanto are his interpretation of pumps with a open sole, which he is selling at L’accessoires. (Shouldn’t it be “Les accessoires”? I keep getting tripped up by this.)

My fresh and beautiful skin from Sawsan Secretspy was a natural for this look. The pale red lips, the gorgeously lined eyes with a touch of yellow give my red dress a bit of glamour and a little retro touch. With Circe Ishtari’s newest hair, a combo updo ponytail with click-to-tint color menu, this pretty red ensemble compliments the butterfly décor.

This is going to be one of those mega blog entries where I share all the pretties I have picked up or been given. Start with this fabulous skybox from Tobias Corvair, which he is featuring at Fameshed. He calls it the “Architect’s Skybox” but I have figured out that it’s the gacha-player’s skybox with all its wall space and shelves. I hung the clever windowboxes from Barnesworth Anubis outside with his pansies and vines (which you can’t see) and took a shot through the window. Barnesworth makes the flowers super big so you can arrange and shrink them. A great tip is to LINK them when you have arranged to reduce the land impact.

Tobias gives the main floor a big space so you can enjoy a main living and social area. I arranged a more traditional chair from Hideki Carami’s gacha at Chapter Four (you get two chairs in the “prize”) with Cory Edo’s latest chairs for Collabor88. Cory’s chairs come in a handful of great decorating colors (lots of neutrals) and have a huge variety of poses and animations and, if you’re in the mood for love, delectable adult animations.

Tobias tucks little shelves under the staircases—the one up to the bedroom, which I made into a contemplative loft lounge—and then another up to a top-floor balcony. I put some of my yard sale gacha finds on the shelves, particularly my collection of art dummies from Robin Sojourner. (Yes, I do the gacha yard sales. Your trash is my treasure!) And he gives you an abundance of walls. I was able to hang my entire collection of LeeZu Baxter gacha posters around the skybox.

Tya Fallingbridge has a nice set of home accessories at FaMESHed including this modern lounge chair with footstool, side table and funky flower lamp. The chair includes several relaxing poses including this contemplative one, perfect for resting and listening to music after a long day.

I opted to make coffee the theme of the kitchen downstairs, using a darling graphic from Isabelle Requiem’s gacha at Oh My Gacha. She includes several kitchen and house décor items, including the rug beneath my feet. These little touches are what makes a house a home.

My outfit is an assemblage of pieces I liked together—first, the slouchy sweater from Sanura Snowpaw, a warm casual look for being at home. I paired it with Ivey Deschanel’s skirt from her ensembles at the Dressing Room Fusion. I am so glad to see Ivey working with mesh. Her textures have always been outstanding and at 70L, the skirt and top (which you don’t see here) are a steal with the quality she puts into them. My little boots are LeeZu Baxter’s mesh concoctions, wearable art on my feet rather than just on the walls.

Shyla Diggs has come out with a new skin for Collabor88, and I wear it with pleasure, opting for a pale lip to match the smoky eye, which accents a pair of eyes from Umazuma Petaluna’s gacha at Chapter Four. Fortunately, I lucked into these blue beauties though looking at her prize board, they are are all gorgeous. Amberly Boccacio is offering several colors of this funky necklace at Collabor88—it comes with silver or gold metal. And Circe Ishtari has made a long short cut with winsome wisps and a color change menu in the hair itself—click for colors and relax.

I have been going back and forth with my mom about going up to Door County again this year. I love it up there but it always ends up being about what the kids want to do. After a while, miniature golf and lumpy beds and mosquitoes is just not a reason to drive 3 hours. I dream about being able to go to a lake home on my own, just to enjoy a day or two of peace and quiet. Thoreau did it; why can’t I?

Tya Fallingbridge is making my dream come true in SL. With her Lake House, which is featured at the Home Show, I am able to enjoy my dream of peace and solitude in a cushy environment. The home comes complete with a bed and shower, and all are equipped with adult animations, but I am enjoying them sans partner. I can lounge on the bed and play with apps or read my Kindle. I could also float around outside aimlessly on The Raft she has made for FaMESHed, which also includes a variety of adult animations.

I lounge fashionably in a top from Paul Lapointe and BastChild Lotus that includes their excellent texture change HUD and beautiful textures. Buy one top and get tons of looks. ValentinaEvangelista is offering these darling shorts at FaMESHed this month, perfect for lakeside relaxation.

She even includes a great shower behind the bed for a rinse after a swim or a romantic encounter. This also includes adult animations as well as single and the spray turns on or off. Imagine a swim in a placid lake alone and then the warm water of the shower, the quiet, the peace.

I have outfit the house with some choice pieces of furniture from Cory Edo, who has also tapped into my desire for a relaxing time alone. First the Pallet Chair with Blanket, which she offers at the Home Show, on which I lounge in the sunset, pondering my existence and marveling at the lack of mosquitoes in SL. The Countryside Patio Table and Chair, which she offers at FaMESHed, are a perfect place for me to sit with a glass of wine and a book while the sun goes down. Quietly.

I’d be remiss if I did not mention this gorgeous skin from Tricky Boucher, offered at Summerfest (I am guessing not named after the one I went to yesterday in RL), bespeckled with a smattering of freckles and featuring Tricky’s beautiful features. My hair is MissAllSunday Lemon’s contribution at FaMESHed this month, pulled back with a hairband and beautiful. My necklace is Maxi Gossamer’s FaMESHed piece with color change stones, available in gold or silver. And my eyes are from Lano Ling’s newest “pearl” line.

Day Off

This weekend I took a day off and created a whole new home….

A quick trip to the Home and Garden Expo, supporting the Relay for Life in SL, should satisfy anyone’s nesting needs. Start with this revised home from Cain Maven. With partial mesh, improved scipting and textures, this spacious two bedroom home offers a waterfall over the stairway, hot tub, built in security and tinted windows, a kitchen with full complement of appliances and seating and two fireplaces—inside and out. A fantasy home indeed.

This is going to be a blow by blow of all the great furnishings I have recently gotten my hands on, most—but not all—from the Home and Garden Expo. First, Solange Cerveau is moving into mesh and she has started with this great gazebo with color change drape shown above that includes the vase of hydrangeas. This is not available at the Expo, however the great Adirondack chairs and tables from Cherelle Capra I put near the fireplace outside in back are available at the Expo.

Kaerri Rae is also donating content at the Home and Garden Expo. She has made two very different sets: the Kauri and Paris collections. Above I show living room sets from both. The Kauri is a more masculine set with neutrals punctuated by blues in a very 70s style. The Paris collection is an eclectic combination of curves and color with turquoise and yellow pillows and artwork combined with more baroque lines in the furniture.

Kaerri is offering a dining room set with sideboard, place settings, an assortment of vases and a shelving unit to hold those vases you don’t see in the photo. She also includes a floor vase. The starburst piece is from Apple Fall’s newest collection, which he is showing at the Grove (slurl below). Cherelle Capra is also offering the lovely shelving unit shown with pillows for reading or relaxing shown with a print of the magnificent Chicago skyline from Apple Fall.

Kaerri has two bedroom sets at the Home and Garden Expo as well. The Kauri again has a masculine contemporary feel with a bed, artwork, and accessories plus the long low dresser that echoes the lines of the sideboard in the dining room set. The Paris bedroom collection also shows the eclectic nature of the living room collection and includes all pieces shown above plus a darling vanity with stool.

A casual look is in order, and I pull it off with the new skinny jeans from Paul Lapointe who has the best butt in SL. These mesh skinnies are the best thing going on the grid right now and Paul made them in a variety of sizes and shapes for all you girls who like a little more booty or need more hips. My casual shoes and tank both come from Pixieplumb Flanagan’s latest collection.

Tiffy Vella’s newest sun hat has color change pieces all over so you can customize to your heart’s content. I changed the hat color to white, the flowers to pink with gold centers and the tiny flowers to purple with a hat band that is pink. Wear it around the house, for gardening, or to your favorite tea party.

Aida Ewing just came out with a new skin collection that is, as always, absolutely gorgeous. With neutral lip and eye, this look is ideal for a day off.

Queen of My Domain

Today I am Queen of my Domain (or as Elaine would say in Seinfeld, “Queen of my castle,” but that’s another whole thing entirely). I have packed my new skybox with Kaerri Rae’s latest collection, which is furniture based on the designs of Piero Fornasetti. Kaerri has painstakingly created new textures for mesh to make a collection that is fun and full of possibility for mix and match. My favorites were the Umbrella cabinet, based on the famous photo by Richard Avedon and of course, the Eiffel Tower screen.

I was fortunate that Barnesworth Anubis came out with his new Haight skybox for the Collabor88. I decorated with glee, throwing up art and photos and even the ubiquitous duckies that Kaerri so adores. (Nothing from her collections is complete without the ducks.) Barnesworth’s skybox is blessedly a blank slate except for the beautiful architectural details of molding and bay windows and of course, the outside view. I found I could change the color of the walls, which is a boon to decorators, but I opted to leave as is to show you the package you can find at Collabor88.

This is a fashion blog, of course, so I would be remiss if I didn’t discuss my ensemble, which is worth a queen’s ransom. Paul Lapointe recently came out with this cute top that includes his ever-clever texture change HUD, so you can choose from 6 tops. I chose, of course, the queen’s crown for my top to echo the theme started by my earrings and necklace from Tosy Xue.

And of course, you see on my feet with the new Angelina shoes from Gospel Voom. Strappy, sexy and edgy, these shoes can go from casual to dressy in seconds.

I can’t seem to take off this new mesh braid from Queue Marlowe. (No, I don’t mean it’s stuck in that SL sort of way.) I love the pompadour top leading to the long braid, which moves with my body rather than cutting into it. I wear a glowing skin from Aida Ewing, who is holding a photo contest using her Amberly skin right now, which ends March 15.

Queen of the House

One of the finest parts of living in SL is the constant fine living and the ease with which one can swap out a whole structure and redecorate. I plopped down Barnesworth Anubis’ new loft, available at Collabor88, in record time yesterday, decorating it and moving in within less than an hour. I realized that home and personalizing home is a very part of the domestic nature of SL. Our doll houses are more than just virtual spaces—they are projections of our needs and aspirations.

As queen of the house, I can walk around dressed however I like, and yesterday I chose to flounce around in this pretty mesh party dress from Ivy Burner. With it’s shimmering textures and layers of swirls over satin, it’s a beautiful mesh piece, especially with its specially fashioned ties up the back. I paired some sexy shoes from Pixieplumb Flanagan with the dress and a lovely new necklace of metal coins from Noah Bodenhall.

My skin is Agony Helse’s newest, a gorgeous redhead’s skin. I am so glad she is doing lighter tones in her skins. This redhead is stunning, especially with her neutral pink lip and sexy eyeliner and pinky-red shadow. My hair is one of Queue Marlowe’s newest that found its way into my inventory with its sexy waves and intense color. (And don’t you love Depth of Field in SL? Yay!)

This entry was supposed to be about the shoes. See the shoes? Those kick-ass, mile high stilettos I have on? Driftwood Miles is about to release them, just in time for your holiday soirees. They come with a color change ankle in five colors and they are sexy and just one notch below over the top in height.

Then it was supposed to be about this new dress from AvaGardner Kungler, who is always pushing the envelope with her great designs. This is how she does it—she starts with a classic silhouette—this one a simple short-sleeved dress—and she creates an exciting, body-conscious design, this one with criss crosses and sequins. Her new necklace, one of a series she recently released, fits the look perfectly.

Then it was about the stuff. First this ingenious little bistro table from Froukje Hoorenbeek with a variety of options. Rez a number of different dining scenarios for one to four people, enjoy a whole sequence of dinner in animation and settings. (The one you see her is “Wine 2”.) It’s ingenious and the simple looks belie the complicated mechanisms inside.

There are tons of holiday decorations scattered around my new skybox, this one the Snowy City Loft that Barnesworth Anubis is offering at this round of Collabor88. I absolutely love the cozy feeling within while the snow falls outside—I can practically hear the radiators clanking. Cory Edo has gone nuts with the holidays this year, so I put out one of her funky trees, wrapped gifts (no trans so only good for decoration), Star-shaped lights and decorations and club chairs (these last also available at this round of Collabor88).
