Put on that dress
I’m going out dancing
Starting off red
Clean and sparkling he’ll see me
Music playing make it dreamy for dancing
Must be a way that i can dress to please him
It’s hard to walk in the dress, it’s not easy
I’m spilling over like a heavy loaded fruit tree

Top Rail

If you put it on, will he notice? I am guessing in this dress from monica Outlander, there is a good chance he will. When we dress up to get a lovers’ attention or just attention, what do we focus on? Some people think it’s all about showing some skin. I think it’s about showing something less overt—the curve and sway of a feminine body, the very subtle cultural cues—a slit up the leg, an open back. Monica’s dress quite effortlessly achieves this.

Top Rail

My skin is another glorious example of Gala Phoenix’s newest releases, a beautiful soft skin with an underlying sensuality and a fresh freckled countenance. I have been resorting to overlying the dark brows from the Chic series on her skins—I really want a darker brow when I wear dark hair.

And my dark hair is a beautiful sensuous style from Queue Marlowe’s latest line. I think this style really has that sort of Mary Louise Parker look to it—loose curls flowing down in a sexy silhouette.

World Traveler

World Traveler

“One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.” – Henry Miller

World Traveler

One of the most fantastic things about SL, one that I think people forget because it becomes so natural to us, is that we can travel around the world in a sense from our own little desk chairs. Yes, the internet does this for us, but SL provides that extra sense of otherplaceness, which we can’t easily find elsewhere without physically traveling. A simple teleport and we are transported to another land. Granted that land is someone’s fantasy without all the other touches we might feel if we were physically there (the weather, the smells, the feel of the air) but it still fulfills some need in us and transmits some otherness to us that we can not get by just stepping out the door or turning on the TV. Add to that the friends we make from around the world—from Africa to Antarctica (and yes there are some from each in SL), and we are world travelers.

In this case I traveled to Hosoi Ichiba to take shots of this brilliant kimono from kaori0514 Karas. I love the colors, the silhouette and the ebullience of this kimono. She adds a little hair flower which just completes it. I decided to don Siddean Munro’s new platform shoes, which are a sort of combo of geta and flipflop and perfectly suit this contemporary kimono (especially with the optional little flowers on the shoes—I love the options Siddean has built into these).

World Traveler

Of course, the prettiest part of this ensemble is my new skin from Gala Phoenix, who has put out another two batches of absolutely amazing skins. I thought this colorway would suit the kimono and with Ikon Innovia’s eyes it’s a joyful look. I topped it all off with a new hair from Kavar Cleanslate, a messy wonderful look that is perfect for a girl running around from sim to sim to see the “world.”

Shadow Dancing

Bernadette

Do it light, taking me through the night
Shadow dancing, baby, you do it right
Give me more, drag me across the floor
Shadow dancing, all this and nothin’ more
~
“Shadow Dancing” by Andy Gibb

Bernadette

I am still struggling with shadows in SL, which may be my fault because I persist in using a client that seems unstable on my machine (I am guessing due to my inventory size). I am increasingly frustrated with the instability. So it’s a bit of “shadow dancing” for me.

Of course, the song suits this look, which I find has a touch of 70s to it.I start with this incredible dress from pixivor Allen, which was one of her Fashion for Life donation dresses, and is now sold in her store. It moves with a fluidity that is mesmerizing and has a silhouette that is simply fantastic. The system pieces are sexy (especially that lacing up the back) and match perfectly to the prim skirt pieces. While the dress comes with little silver mary jane high heels, I chose to wear some prim toe shoes from Babette Ultsch because they have the best silver texture in SL.

Bernadette

My skin is a new one from Gala Phoenix, who is simply making my heart sing with her newest skins. I love the subtle translucency and pinkiness to this skin, the gentle freckles sprinkled across the nose, the beautiful lips, the shapely eyebrows. Even the collar bone and breasts are beautifully shaped—that is no small feat right there. The best part is this skin is youthful but not “immature.”  My hair is Thora Charron’s free offering from Hair Fair, and it’s fantastic! I will say I recolored the barette to a shiny white but guess what? Native shiny doesn’t show in shadows. Go figure.

The N’dali

The N'Dali

“The N’dali of the temperate forests and hills of Southern Peninsula of Melanasia are an independent tribe of traders and craftspeople. They are most noted for their fine metalwork and technology in working with exotic creature skins and feathers such as those of the phoenix and dragon. Their people are homogenous with genetic markers such as pale fine caucasian skin, thick dark black hair and most amazingly, golden eyes, which appear ubiquitously through the N’dali people but are known as a rare recessive gene across other populations.

The N'Dali

“As the culture is matrifocal, women enjoy a great degree of independence and power. Free of the pressures of typical patriarchal societies, both women and men flourish as leaders, artisans, nurturers and tradespeople. Some occupations weigh heavier towards one sex or the other but both sexes enjoy the opportunity to choose their vocation. Parenthood is shared, with all children taught the concept of n’dalia, or fidelity to social oneness and community. The people are, overall, very insular and communicate very reluctantly with others except in trade. It could be said that their cultural ethos is ‘G’sip a g’ringen’ or ‘Words are power.’

“As seen in Figures 1 and 2, the N’dali women’s garb is made entirely by local artisans. First, the top and skirt are sewn from treated dragonskin, which is created from a process of steps that range from the original hunt of dragons by specialized warriors to the butchering of dragons and curing of dragonskin by skilled craftspeople. The dragonskin is surprisingly light but flexible and protective—it can withstand high temperatures and resists puncturing. The collars and belt of their garments are fashioned by artisans trained via apprenticeship and are created by commission, showing the marks of their owners’ family seals-—in this case, the image of a goddess akin to Callisto on the belt.

The N'Dali

“Figure 3 shows us the face of a N’gali woman. With fine beautiful features, the N’dali’s caucasian skin is surprisingly resistant to the elements and heat. The skin provides for N’dali women a convenient canvas for personal expression. While the facial tattoos of many women accentuate their golden eyes and provide pure decoration, the tattoos on their arms tell metaphorical tales of very personal narratives and relationships (in the case of this woman, an homage to the master craftswoman who taught her dragonskin hunting and curing). The hair is arranged in a complex construction of loops and curls, reaching ever higher heights as wearers try to outdo each other to the astonishment and subsequent duplication of their peers. It could never be said a N’dali woman is not vain.”

Queen Annalea

Queen Annalea

As the head parson placed the crown upon her head in front of all the citizens in the arena, she felt its weight.. not just on her head but down her spine, running through her body, deep in her soul. As the chains were settled into place, the crenellated horns adjusted, the warrock tails thrown over her shoulders, she knew her lazy afternoon lessons, her idle needlework, her gossip and girlish pastimes—all were gone and over. That was another life and it was far behind her.

She gazed out into the faces of the thousands of people. Her mother, Queen Dendra, gazed up at her from the foot of the stage; her younger brother, Rance, watched her keenly. She thought about the death of her father, King Timmott, in the hands of the enemy.

The head parson announced, “All hail, Queen Annalea.”

The people cheered. “All hail, Queen Annalea. Long live the Queen!”

Queen Annalea

Our queen comes courtesy of June Dion, whose considerable line of inexpensive and amazingly rendered garments is an incredible addition to SL content. This ensemble, part of a set with several colors, includes sculpty belts, ties, and a beautifully textured skirt. Echoed through the garment are Asian motifs all jumbled up in a complicated but beautiful look fit for a young warrior queen.

Queen Annalea

My hair/headpiece comes courtesy of Tekelili Tantalus, whose unique vision provides amazing fantasy wear that includes incredible versatility with a built-in color-changing script that operates most elements separately. Look closely at his textures—they gleam and shine with depth of light and dark. Tek is at the Hair Fair this year, and he will be, without exception, the most amazing and fantastic artist there. Indulge in one of his pieces—they go beyond hair to art.

Her blue eyes locked with Rance’s eyes as the arena filled with the fierce chanting. Unspoken but agreed between them at that moment was that vengeance was inevitable and it would be theirs.

Sugar Buzz

Sugar Buzz

Oh, sweet thing,
You’re just like a Sugar Buzz
Doing to me just what sugar does.
The heart is full as it ever was,
I so high like I was on some devil’s drug
You lift me up straight to the top
Suspended bliss until I drop.

~ “Sugar Buzz” by K.D.Lang and the Siss Boom Bang

Sugar Buzz

Taking a break from story-telling to share a song I have been listening to over and over and a look, something so sweet it gives ME a sugar buzz. I start with a new vintage dress from Neferia Abel, the queen of fashion history in SL (well at least for the 20th century). This simple little pink frock is the basis of my sweet look, accompanied by platform shoes from Cerberus Noel (with a color change rose!) and pink gloves from Jill Lemon (who has, indeed, reopened though you won’t find these gloves at her new store).

Sugar Buzz

Ponytails from Truth Hawks give me a girl-like attitude and one of Gala Phoenix’s new lustrous summer skins provides a sweet and pretty complexion. Sachi Vixen has come out with a set of glittery, glitzy eyeshadows and I wear one here, which is the sugar on top of an already pretty sweet look.

Sugar Buzz

Can’t get enough,
Can’t get enough!
I can’t live without it.
Can’t get enough!
What this love does to me, sugar buzz?

Char

Char

Char is our girl today. Born in the 80s, she is the daughter of a brief but fruitful marriage between an aging rock star and a young groupie. Her daddy, Slim Jim Ross, was a rock star “in the 60s or 70s or something,” Char says. Her momma, considerably younger, was a Jazzercise instructor he met on tour in Tulsa. Now her momma teaches Zumba in Santa Monica and lives in a two-bedroom ranch paid for with his alimony, and Char lives in with her Daddy in Brentwood.

Slim Jim had two hits: “You Ain’t My Baby (No More)” and “In Your Velvet Spaceship.” (“Yeah, Baby, that song was for your mother, Crystal,” he coughed out, taking his first toke after a 5 mile jog. “But Daddy, my mom was Christine.” “Yeah, that’s what I said, right? Christine.” Crystal was his second wife. Her mother was his fourth. Char knew he had it wrong.) Char was named Chardonnay, after her momma’s favorite wine. Char is the apple of her father’s eye, his youngest, his “Baby Girl,” the one spending her siblings’ inheritance via increments of charges on his American Express.

Char

This may lead you to believe that Char has no redeeming values beyond those of being Slim Jim’s progeny, but that is not true. When J-Lo doesn’t know what to wear, she rings up Char. When Paris is perplexed, she phones Char. When Beyonce is befuddled, she texts Char. The Olson twins somehow lost Char’s number. That’s because Char shops so much, so knows where to get it all.

And her outfit today is comprised of only the best: first a top and skirt from LeeZu Baxter, designer extraordinaire. LeeZu puts the micro in the mini with this skirt—a waistband barely clinging to a scrap of flowered fabric. So brief it’s like a moment in time except LeeZu still manages to cover the essentials without making it ridiculous. Then the flowered top—a collage of tassel and lace and rose with textured sheer cotton. Char shows plenty of midriff but she knows looking trashy is not what she wants.

Char

Her boots are from another extraordinary designer—Bax Coen. One of the new set of animal prints Bax has put out, this is more fashionable slant on animal. In this case, the animal is the SoCal shopper with her stiletto heels. With its uniquely scripted fitting system and multi-texturing options, these boots are just what Char loves—versatile.

Char took a trip to the makeup counter at Curio and got a great free sample with her purchase. This pretty pink visage is Gala Phoenix’s offering to all who join the Truth District Update Group. Grab it now from past notices before it’s gone. (Look at those luscious lips.)

Finally, Char’s hair, which she (and I) love—a long breezy casually feathered ‘do from Kavar Cleanslate, available at Hair Fair 2011. When Char saw the cut and color, she said, “This is so Rodeo Drive, darling.”

Char

In your velvet spaceship
I find it strangely comfortable
In your UFO of looooove.
Probe me, explore me, penetrate my mind
Take me to the galaxies
In your velvet spaceship, your sp-sp-spaceship.

Michelle, my belle.
Sont des mots qui vont très bien ensemble,
Très bien ensemble.

Michelle

Her name is Michelle simply because she reminds me of the actress Michelle Williams. With her cute party dress from Angelina Eizenberg, one of the featured items at the new My Second Wardrobe, she’s set for a summer day. Pretty espadrilles from Gospel Voom, his gift available at the Truth District, suit this summer frock.

Michelle

I feature a beautiful new skin from Gala Phoenix (you’re seeing a lot of them on my lately—I think I’m in love) with a scattering of freckles over a peaches and cream complexion. My short hair is one of Jeanie Valois’ featured styles at Hair Fair this year. I have to say—I love short hair and it’s darn hard to make, so this is a triumph of style. My earrings are Zaara Kohime’s featured offering at My Second Wardrobe—Zaara at a bargain price!

~ from the song “Hair,” from “Hair: the Musical”

I have a quandary here because generally I do a whole avatar “look” and I eschew that multiple mugshot presentation, but I have been inundated with hair… hair in boxes, hair in packages, hair in folders.. wonderful hair! That’s because the Hair Fair is on again this year, and there are many more choices for me to show than I can do in.. a month I bet. So I will be showing some great styles here and through the week.

This post will be my mugshot showing (wherein I just show hair without content or context—just hair.. on my head.) Hair Fair opened yesterday at midnight slt. Join the Hair Fair Demo Group in world to grab copies of these as demos so you are not wandering around the Fair trying them on in a swamp of lag. (And there will be lag—don’t complain—you all want to be there so there will be lag.)

Finally, please note that I show some new skins here and I will talk more about them as the week goes on. Simply admire and purchase!!

To Tell the Truth

To Tell the Truth

I remember when Truth Hawks was some back alley guy who would plop a wad of prims on your head for a couple hundred linden. Then he got to be a kind of underground sensation—people in the know shopped Truth. His store got overrun with hair—hair hair hair. He made it so quickly he grew out of the store. Forget the clothes and accessories—everyone wanted that hair. Now he’s a Big Deal with a store built by Barnesworth Anubis, massive traffic (more than Franks), and a huge rep. When people ask, “Where can I get hair?” the answer is always “Truth.” This is the thing: he’s still a nice guy. If I contact him (which I do seldom as I figure he’s busy), he always answers cheerfully and with <3s. Which just goes to show—nice guys CAN finish first.

The reason I share this is because Truth is opening a NEW sim on July 1 at 9 am slt, sharing space with several designer friends. With stores like Nardcotix, Curio, Mudhoney, League, Earthstones, Miel and Miamai, Truth is packing the sim with heavy hitters, and he could do this because HE IS A NICE GUY. How else could someone gather this caliber of designers?

To Tell the Truth

Today’s look was made entirely from purchases on the new Truth District, which was built by the very charming Cory Edo. (She’s REALLY NICE too.) Big kudos to Sophia Harlow, who is doing all the grunt work for this. (Yes, she’s REALLY NICE.)

My dress is a fashionable and sexy piece from Milla Michinaga, who was the original daily look blogger (and my idol). From her blogging, she learned what needed to go into the best garments and she transferred that knowledge to her products. Exacting and fashionable, Milla always provides top notch stuff. (And she is SUPER NICE.)

My belt and sexy boots are courtesy of Gospel Voom, who makes high-quality shoes and accessories. Gos’ textures are unsurpassed and the versatility of his fat pack pieces are amazing (many color options on each piece of the item). Gos is .. UBER NICE. (And he is always up for a little randy repartee.)

To Tell the Truth

My skin is one of Gala Phoenix’s newest releases. One of MANY. I saw all her new work and felt that sickness from eating too much candy—it’s all so delightful. I wore this particular skin because it’s cute but the name really appealed—Grouch. (I want no comments from you, Callie.) Gala’s skins have become.. luminous is the best word I can think of. I am so glad she has moved in this direction. And Gala? WICKEDLY NICE.

My eyes are from Hart Larsson, who is also selling skins on Truth’s sim. I love their brightness and opacity. Hart is a TRULY NICE man (and a great artist). My poses are from Katey Coppola, who is SASSILY NICE. My hair is Truth’s GIFT to us all. In fact, many of the designers are going to be offering gifts in celebration of the opening. You HAVE to join the Truth Update Group to click on the special vendors and they will only be out til July 5.
