Geisha

Geisha

“Geishas are not courtesans. And we are not wives. We sell our skills, not our bodies. We create another secret world, a place only of beauty. The very word ‘Geisha’ means artist and to be a Geisha is to be judged as a moving work of art.” ~ Arnold Golden, Memoirs of a Geisha

Geisha

The variety of skin styles at the Skin Fair is astonishing. The artistry of each skin maker, their vision and purpose, goes beyond just making money but making our SLs more beautiful. Shai Delacroix has taken a huge step in this direction with her beautiful Song skins, “inspired by Chinese opera and cherry blossoms.” I opted to use the skin in a Geisha look (not Chinese but Japanese), conflating the cultural ideas Shai expresses even more. (Honestly, it’s a lot easier to find kimonos in SL.)

This free mesh kimono from Ameshin Yossarian was a piece of luck as it went so well with the parasol from Nix Marabana, which has color change and will probably figure in another blog as it comes with several poses. Combined with poses from Tutys, I had the look locked up, especially with mesh okobo (is that the plural for okobo?) from Nadia Swizzle.

Geisha

Look even more closely at this gorgeous skin with a watercolor spray on the lids and forehead, as if I am a geisha painted delicately as a cherry blossom on a canvas. Shai’s ads are even inspiring. I was so fortunate that Amberly Bocaccio had this headpiece at Collabor88; it was perfect. And the best textured geisha hairs can be found at KateForster Akina’s store.

Rose Garden

Somehow, some way, the snow missed me. (I live near a very large body of water—I can only imagine it was that.) My not very distant neighbors (less than 10 miles away) got pummeled and snow blowers are running all over the Midwest right now. And we’re looking forward to the frigid cold coming our way.

Rose Garden

It’s times like this it’s best to disappear into a fantasy and mine is a fantasy of a beautiful kimono, fresh with roses, wondrously layered with frills and laces, butterflies floating around. The folds of the robe (with a cleverly constructed sculpty) combined with the gathered bow in the back is a sort of virtual origami of colors and textures. This absolutely gorgeous kimono from chichuro Martinek cures the snowbound blues and brings a bit of sunshine to a gray day.

Rose Garden

I styled it with a simply beautiful new skin from Tuli Asturius’ For Your Lips Only line. With its subtly colored lip and bare but beautiful eyes, its freshness perfectly matches this glorious kimono. I topped it with a sweet bob from BettiePage Voyager. Its flat color (this is one of her earlier pieces) might seem a bit cartoony for this ensemble but somehow it works (the simplicity of the cut).

Asian Doll

I have too many kimonos. I really don’t know why I have them all—I rarely wear them except to look at them and marvel at how beautiful they are.

I have one in inventory that I purchased on the Japan sim a while ago and have taken photos of. It is a curious mix of kimono and bondage with it’s beautiful brocaded pieces and its studded collar. I badly wanted to show this piece from *Illuminati*.

Asian Doll

I had wandered to Urban Dare one night looking for a tail and found this great hair. I bought it because I knew it would come in handy some day, and sure enough it did.

I found myself at Gauze the other day, and I found these terrific geisha skins made by Selos Dae. I have not been thrilled with most geisha skins I have found, but Selos’ skins have great proportions and colors. They are fantastical without being unhuman. Selos Dae has a number of amazing and wild skins besides these which will enhance your fantasy looks.
