“Her pleasure in the walk must arise from the exercise and the day, from the view of the last smiles of the year upon the tawny leaves and withered hedges, and from repeating to herself some few of the thousand poetical descriptions extant of autumn–that season of peculiar and inexhaustible influence on the mind of taste and tenderness–that season which has drawn from every poet worthy of being read some attempt at description, or some lines of feeling.” ~ Jane Austen, Persuasion

Persuasion

A stroll around NevaCrystall’s Baby’s Ear this autumn, and I can smell fall in the air and feel the cool breeze. Good thing I have this cute outfit from Giz Seorn, a mesh twosome from Shiny Shabby that comes I several seasonal color combos. The fit is not entirely perfect to my Maitreya body but with some tinkering, I was able to get the XXS to work with some alpha work. The textures and silhouette are great so it was not out of the question. I applied tights from Alaska Metropolitan, who sells such appliers at a steal. And awesome boots from Senzati0n Domenitzo, also at Shiny Shabby, complete this chic fall look with a leafy necklace from Mea Carnell.

Persuasion

Nicole Button has finally brought her skins to mesh heads and she has chosen to fit them to the Catwa Jessica mesh head. With the straight nose and expressive eyes of the skin, it was a great match for this head, especially since Nicole includes several makeups with the look. My hair is MissAllSunday’s layered and tousled casual look for Uber, a “classic” cut that will serve many ladies (and possibly gentlemen) well.

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday!

The way I see it, you should live everyday like its your birthday. ~ Paris Hilton

birthday

I’m clapping because it’s Genre’s birthday this month, so the designers participating have made a bunch of great birthday-themed items. I pulled a couple out for this post. First is this FABULOUS stripper cake from Plurabelle Laszlo. Who knew someone who made such sweet shoes and hair and jewelry could make something so naughty and fun? Included with the cake is a great set of animations including those that tuck you far away from the cake so your floaty name tag can’t be seen (surprise!) plus singing, clapping, dancing and POLE DANCING! I will be hauling this around to every birthday celebration I am invited to.

Happy Birthday!

I donned Chandra Meehan’s naughty-but-nice balloons and streamers birthday suit from Genre for popping out of the cake. With Omega and Belleza appliers, she gives you a whole look for a sort of burlesque “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” set up with martinis and balloons and little else. Mr. Beresford saw the ensemble and claimed it was his birthday, so I wrapped my arms around his neck and sang just like Marilyn, my soft curls from Truth Hawks’ newest ‘do tickling his neck while martinis poured out on his lap.

The Apoplectic Post Apocalypse

The Apoplectic Post Apocalypse

“I’m a fuel-injected suicide machine! I am a rocker, I am a roller, I am an out-of-controller!” ~ Nightrider in “Max Max”

The Pursuit

Genre’s theme this month is post apocalyptic, so I threw together a look from all the great stuff offered that is fierce and sexy, hoping I could share with you a little post apocalyptic style. Top to bottom, items that are from Genre: wild red hair from Cruella Pennell, who includes two different shaved heads that are tintable if you need to go wild. Then there is a “tiara” from Photos Nikolaidis that I tinted myself to match more with my outfit. A little necklace from Plurabelle Laszlo, a remake of a great bottlecap necklace she had done years ago (I know because it was my first happiness from Bliensen + Maitai). My bracer from Discovering Destiny includes vials of.. something and the ever-important key.

The Pursuit

I rezzed the trailer from Jack Mondegreen and somehow my photo platform transformed itself into the Wastelands and bizarre characters of dubious provenance wandered across my scene. Soon I was engaging in chase scenes and various other feats of survival, using poses from Nancoix Urquan. Boots from Keishi Roo, of course, give me the edge and  the skirt from Spooky Mistwallow (yes, tough girls can wear skirts, especially when they wield a nail studded baseball bat from Draconias Timeless). All of the above is from Genre. Capture was in order with a great pose set from Kirsty Oherlihy (not available at Genre but essential to this narrative). I gave Z a run for his money!

The Pursuit

I am wearing Paul Lapointe and Bastchild Lotus’ new corset, which includes a great texture change HUD with a ton of color options for the leather and the metal studs. Clicking this look in took a bit of time because I had so many choices! Paul makes a variety of sizes of mesh to suit your body proportions. If you prefer to be a bit more busty, he gives you that option. Any piece from L&B is chock full of options and is made of 100% original and well-rigged mesh. I can’t speak highly enough of their work.

I want to point out I am wearing the mesh Venus body from Belleza. I have done a few things with it to complete my look. I clicked on the push up breasts to fill in that corset, and I reduced my shape size. I still can’t understand why folks resist messing around with their shape a little to get the look they want to achieve with their mesh body. This is the fitted mesh we all wanted for so long! Let’s use it! I reduced my breast size slightly to fit the higher boobs from the shape into this corset and voila!

I also invested a paltry sum and some time into the Omega appliers so I could wear the  great textured stockings on Omega appliers Bax Coen JUST came out with. Make sure you get the NEW [LNL] Omega System Kit – Belleza. Wear the “installer,” click it to load into your body, and then you can wear the Omega applier from Bax and click, you’re in business.  Fishnets! Do you want to figure out how to do this yourself? Join the Love N Lust group or join Skin Addiction group and ask.

And incidentally, Skin Addiction is having a blow out Black Friday sale starting this Friday. You need to join the Skin Addiction group (tp here) and then you wear your tag to get a kick back on any advertised purchases. (You also get to enjoy the scintillating repartee in the group and get help from hundreds, nay THOUSANDS of informed skin shoppers who also know tons about everything else SL.) The Aptitude to Fly

The Aptitude to Fly

“A power of Butterfly must be –
The Aptitude to fly
Meadows of Majesty concedes
And easy Sweeps of Sky -”
― Emily Dickinson

The Aptitude to Fly

The EB Awareness Event started yesterday and was quite a success with a full sim and lots of people shopping. Epidermolysis Bullosa is a rare disease that affects 1 in 50,000 children born throughout the world as a result of a genetic disorder. It varies in severity among its sufferers. It is characterized by a defect between the anchoring of the skin between the epidermis (top layer of skin) and the dermis (second layer). People who suffer from EB suffer from skin fragility, blistering and constant pain. “Butterfly Children” is what kids with the disorder are called due to the fragility of their skin so a lot of the décor sold at the fair has butterflies on it.

Kaerri Rae has made an entire set of furniture with monarch butterflies as the motif especially for this event with a large chunk of her income going to DEBRA of America. She offers two sets: one in white with dark gray accents and one in dark gray with white accents. Depending on your décor, you can choose a set and use the pieces with your own existing furniture. I set up two little nooks to show the set, and I included a few other pieces that will be sold at the EB Awareness event, including a darling lamp from Plato Novo.

The Aptitude to Fly

My sweater is also being sold at the event, a generous offer from Parallax Resident. The sweater comes with a texture-change HUD for some great sweater options. I have seen this in the men’s version too and it’s terrific. Portions of the sale of this sweater go to DEBRA of America. My jeans are a pair of great bell bottoms that Datrip Blackbart has at the Vintage  & Cool fair in several colors. My shoes, which I adjusted to my Slink feet, are from Renee Harvy and can be worn without the feet. My handbag is one of the gacha items at Miffhoi Rosca’s kiosk at Season’s Story.

Mochi Milena did an amazing job on the extensive skins she created for this month’s androgynous theme at Genre. I already knew that she put considerable effort into creating options for fembois and women who want cleavage and makeups. I really appreciate that Mochi offers these options to people who want to explore their identity. My hair is Mina Nakamura’s latest for the Dressing Room Fusion and so perfect for the season with a texture change hat as well as the mesh hair. Love this look!

“You and I are in a world without boundaries and our spirits flow in it like ink blots on damp paper…”

~ quoted from “Transcending Borders” by Tutsy NAvArAthnA

S/He

My pal, Tutsy Navarathna, has been a resident of SL for quite a while and has tackled a few of the issues of virtuality that we all experience. His latest movie, “Transcending Borders,” looks at gender and attraction. Besides showing the beauty of SL so evocatively, it has a great ending! (I just want to note that Tutsy makes these amazing machinima from his home in India with the crappy internet that is inherent with living there. Bow before his amazing skills!)

Meanwhile, Genre has taken on the theme of “Androgyny,” which dovetails nicely with my recent online series obsession, “Transparent,” on Amazon. It’s a full-on examination of the many flavors of being sexual and gendered with the common issues of family dynamics, living in LA, growing up, being Jewish, and love, of course. I highly recommend it.

The suit I am wearing, from Poosykat LittleBoots, is the ideal look for a “low femme,” as one of the characters in “Transparent” labels this. This tailored suit is full mesh and fits perfectly. Platform heel boots from ThePierrot complete the look And I chose a neutral polish for my nails from Giela Delpaso.

S/He

A short men’s cut from TOmmy Fairplay is perfect for this look. With a long top that is insouciantly swept back and a great hairbase, the hair is ideal for men but really suits me too, and is one of his featured looks at The Liaison Collaborative.

The best part of the look is Mochi Milena’s skin, one she made just for this round at Genre. Supplied with the skins, of course, are all the appliers you might need but she also gives you a variety of cleavages from completely male to buxomly female with boi and girl in between. She also provides several shapes, which transform the skins from softly masculine to nicely feminine. I wore it on my shape as is, and it made an ideal look. Mochi also includes a bunch of makeups to femme up your look. If there ever was a skin to explore the spectrum of sexuality and gender representation, this is it.

“Your little boat goes west and you congratulate yourself, “What a navigator I am!” And then the wind blows you east.” ~ Katherine Boo, Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity

Behind the Beautiful Forevers

I have been reading Katherine Boo’s book about a “slum” in Mumbai, which is on the edge of the airport behind an ad for ceramic floor tiles, advertised as “Beautiful Forever.” It’s an amazing book, both in the writer’s understanding of the many influences on one group of people in a small community in a very large and diverse city in an even larger diverse country. It won the National Book Award for good reason. It’s an enjoyable read if nothing else. She writes fabulously.

We tend to have a very monolithic view of India in SL (and I speak of “India” not as a country as it is now but as that region, which could include Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka). My Indian friends in SL, the ones who live in India or abroad, seem to have no qualms about this, possibly because India is just too damn big to wrap their heads around much less expecting anyone else to. Whether you speak Marathi or Tamil or Bengali or Urdu or English, whether you eschew eating cows or pork or believe in many Gods or One or a Holy Trinity, you can be Indian.

Behind the Beautiful Forevers

So I gathered all these items from this month’s Genre, which is themed “South Asian,” and assembled them in a celebration of this amorphous beautiful place that spreads itself not only over South Asia but throughout the world. (My son’s Urdu-speaking preschool teacher grew up in Uganda, for example. My Hindu-speaking friends spent their childhoods in Singapore.) First, Hadarah Steamer’s beautifully textured set in mesh with glorious patterns and colors and jewelry and even a bindi! Add Plurabelle Laszlo’s slip on wedges and a nose ring from Photos Nikolaidis and the outfit is complete.

Lumiya Rae has made a sublime skin for this round with luscious chili-spiced lips and beautifully defined brows. I added Constance Daehlie’s gorgeous eye makeup, also available at Genre. My lovely wavy locks are MissAllSunday Lemon’s hair for Fameshed, which worked perfectly with the head scarf from Hadarah’s set.

Genre is all about entire immersion, so gorgeous furniture from Spooky Mistwallow and a scattering of pillows with poses and rugs from Cherelle Capra completes the South Asian theme. Namaste.

The French Connection

The French Connection

I put on my rouge and wash my hands in front of the whole world! ~ Marie Antoinette

The French Connection

Genre opened earlier this month and the theme was Baroque, so of course, everyone threw their efforts at gilded furniture and voluminous dresses with an eye towards the court of Marie Antoinette. I gathered quite a few things from the event and crowded them into this blog because, as you know, excess was never a concern in the court of Madame Deficit.

First my beautifully rendered dress from Dreamfantasia Nightfire, who is a singular repository of beautiful texture and historical sartorialism in SL. Remember when we constructed all sorts of fussy prim pieces for these shapes and now mesh can do it? I have accented the dress with a brooch from Tiffy Vella and pretty little shoes from Arora Zanzibar.

The French Connection

My furnishings are all from Genre, including the pictures, vase and chair from Charles Lacrima and the lovely desk, which also includes other chairs and a table from Discovering Destiny. (I can imagine these pieces could be removed from a Baroque RP setting and might do as antiques in an eclectic household.) My mirror from Connie Stratten actually includes six poses for photography and if you’re really handy with PS (and have the patience), you could do your reflection. (I clearly have neither the skills or patience.) My poses are from Genre as well, a set from Nancoix Urquan called Sarabande, which have a lovely drama to them.

My sky-high hair from Plurabelle Laszlo comes in several tints (though Marie herself had a light blonde hair) and includes the lovely dark roses you see but I added Kerryth Tarantal’s hair piece as well (because, you know, extravagance). My skin is one that LumiyaRae made specially for this round with the darling little heart-shaped beauty marks and blush Marie Antoinette was famous for.

Finally my darling Ladies in Waiting are actually also wearable animated rats (!) that are adorably dressed in baroque costume. You get one to display and one to wear and if you are one of those who likes collecting darling animals in SL, these are custom made for you.

One Thousand and One

One Thousand and One

On Sun and Moon of palace cast thy sight,
Enjoy her flowerlike face, her fragrant light.
Thine eyes shall never see in hair so black
Beauty encase a brow so purely white.
The ruddy rosy cheek proclaims her claim,
Though fail her name whose beauties we indite.
As sways her gait, I smile at hips so big
And weep to see the waist they bear so slight.

~ “The Arabian Nights” by Sir Richard Burton (1850)

One Thousand and One

Genre is open this month with “Arabia” as its theme. I searched the four corners of the event to find you the best in exotic treasures to create the look for today in the spirit of role play. I piled on the treasures to share here, including this darling outfit from Nahtasha Uriza, who has paired a gathered halter with loose, flowing pants with a cut up the leg. The pattern is subtle, which is good because it allows lots of embellishment, which I took advantage of.

On my feet are Tiffy Vella’s exquisite slippers, bejeweled and beautiful. These alone are worth the trip to Genre if just to wear them and admire them. Then I decorated my skin with Chandra Masala’s lovely henna tattoo, which works on my Slink hands, nails painted by Ravenna Rossini’s great metallic nails.

One Thousand and One

Jewelry is essential for this look, and I really took advantage of attachment points. My bindi from Draconias Timeless includes an elaborate color change hud and additional jewels that lie over the brows. My nose ring from Amilia Zabaleta includes a tiny gem and my choker from Jalynne Ohmai has great textures for a more antiqued treasure look.

Truth Hawks’ newest long curly hair is ideal for this look. I can almost smell the cinnabar fragrance in his beautiful locks. Lumiya Rae (also know as Amesha Jewell) is offering this luscious seductive skin with all her characteristic artistry at Genre and I chose Constance Daehlie’s bold makeup to intensify my look. Poses from Nancoix Urquan from Genre give my dancer beautiful form and I posed under the gorgeous gazebo Kerryth Tarantal has made for Genre.

One Thousand and One

“Orientalism can be discussed and analyzed as the corporate institution for dealing with the Orient—dealing with it by making statements about it, authorizing views of it, describing it, by teaching it, settling it, ruling over it: in short, Orientalism as a Western style for dominating, restructuring, and having authority over the Orient.” ~ Edward Said

Sing, Sing, Sing

Sing, Sing, Sing

When the music goes around,
Everybody’s goes go to town.
But here is one thing you should know
Sing sing sing sing everybody start to sing like dee dee dee, bah bah bah dah
Now you’re singin with a swing

~ “Sing, Sing, Sing” by Benny Goodman

Sing, Sing, Sing

Swing on over to Genre this month because the collective artists that make up the event are working on the theme of “Big Band Swing.” June Dion contributed with this great sleep dress, a mix of mesh and system pieces with a sexy tight fit and sleek, snazzy trim to make this dress have a touch of menswear style. Little music barrettes from Ravenna Rossini evoke Big Band style and wonderful shoes from Tiffy Vella, to be work with Slink feet, add wonderful vintage bows to the look. Elegant poses from Olaekna Chesnokov that she will be selling at Pose Fair, which opens April 19, dropped in my lap so I could pose dramatically.

Sing, Sing, Sing

I am, of course, dancing to the swing playing on the grammophone from Spooky Mistwallow, also available at Genre. I wore an old vintage standby—my favorite wavy style from Kin Keiko. A trip over to the Cosmetic Fair helped me dress up my luxe skin from Ava Grau. Deep red lips from Constance Daehlie and golden eye make up from Nikohl Hax makes my beautiful sing, sing, singer glamorous and read for the big screen.

Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered

Men are not a new sensation
I’ve done pretty well I think
But this half-pint imitation
Put me on the blink

I’m wild again, beguiled again
A simpering, whimpering child again
Bewitched, bothered, and bewildered am I

Genre opens tomorrow with a theme I just love: 40s Swing. The creators have invaded the big band hall that Voshie Paine has built with beautiful creations for your big band reveries. (I personally spent the evening listening to 40s chanteuses singing the old standard love songs, like Ella Fitzgerald.) Voshie has created, under the auspices of TheAnnex, this wonderful dress with jeweled embroidered cap sleeves and an elegant draped back. I styled it with lysa Helendale’s darling spectator pumps to be work with Slink feet and her great duo-tone nails. With Krystal Jenkin’s lovely necklace, I am ready for my solo while we wait for the soldiers to come home.

Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered

My go-to skin-makers for elegance and beauty are always Shyla Diggs and Tricky Boucher. Shyla always creates the most tasteful and beautiful make up combinations on Tricky’s sexy skin base. A trip over to Tutys got me this great wavy period ‘do with hairbase.

Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered

I’ve sinned a lot; I’m mean a lot
But I’m like sweet seventeen a lot
Bewitched, bothered, and bewildered am I
