My Favorite Bear

I don’t know about you, but I have a Bear, a sweet soft bear that growls only once in a while, never at me, and just his existence makes me feel better about everything. Got him over three years ago but still keep him close because, let’s face it, those tender brown eyes are irreplaceable. I whisper my secrets into those sweet soft ears and hold him tight, and he gives me comfort and happiness.

Now I am not sure if you have a Bear, but certainly you can understand my attachment. This sweet bear from Sakuya Lane is one of the best I have found in SL, made of sculpties and special magic. And my bedtime outfit keeps my Bear happy. First my lingerie from Lisanna Lauria, one of her contributions to District 5 (which opens tomorrow!).  It is a system pieces that comes with appliers for the boobs and a butt if you have them. (In this case, I AM wearing boobs.) System clothes still exist and are still used in world and still can look fabulous. My stockings and shoes are from Gospel Voom, who includes his own stocking HUD and textures with this set. A little HUD work and silk covers my legs.

My hair is one of Truth Hawks’ newest, not for an event but simply sold at his store and darling as heck. It comes with little skelly hands, which I did not wear because, well, those would scare my Bear. My sultry skin is Sawsan Secretspy’s featured skin for District 5. Sawsan found herself in the middle of the Sin City portion of the event and has made a skin to match with seemingly innocent pink lipstick but sensuous eye makeup and a bod that won’t quit. Sometimes all a Bear wants is soft skin and warm hugs.

Inventoil Made Easier

A few years ago I introduced the word “inventoil” to the world, which was my word for going through my inventory and sorting things. At the time my inventory was almost manageable. I knew what I had and where it might be. That ended a couple years ago when boxes exploded with fatpacks of fatpacks, and I started joining events to blog. And oh, well, I shop a lot too. Pfff.

StarlightShining clued me into a fancy trick in Firestorm that is going to revolutionize your inventory, especially if you have a hoarding problem as I do. And I’m going to teach you how to do it. The bottom line is that you are going to be able to pack massive amounts of stuff into a package without manually moving it. It’s kind of like those Spacebags that “triple your storage’ when you vacuum out the air.

First, get the Firestorm client. This only works with Firestorm as far as I know.

You need to select what you want boxed. Make a folder at the top layer (meaning “Inventory > Folder”). If it’s in any other folders, this will not work. My folder is “~ 100 Block,” full of some dope stuff I got to blog for the 100 Block, some of which you saw here. The event is over and I am desperate not to part with these things but the reality is, they have to be packed away if I can’t bear to delete them. I named the folder with the ~ (a tilde in geek terms) so it would sort to the bottom of my inventory, making it easier to find. (You can name with ! at the beginning and it sorts to the top but I have used that trick too many times for it to be useful to me anymore.)

Everything in that folder, including folders, is going to pack into the package at ONE LEVEL. That means the stuff IN the folders will go into the box but the folder separation will not. So if you pack folders in this folder, don’t expect them to remain sorted. I don’t personally care. Most people name things in a manner that they sort correctly. And if they don’t, well, I didn’t need it anyway.

Edit the box and hit “Copy Key.” You are going to need that in a moment.

In the chat line of local chat type “zdrop on <paste what you copied from Copy Key here> <name of folder EXACTLY with capitalization correct here>”. The package and folder do not have to have the same name, incidentally. I just happened to do that. This is a photo of what I ended up typing.

If you did it all correctly, you will see the message in your chat window start scrolling by and witness each item being packed into the package. The progress will fill up your screen but no one else’s.

While it packs, resume your normal activities in the sim. Pose for photos (though the little starry line might show as you package), furnish your house, sort other items in inventory (though you can’t start another zdrop transfer), chat in Skin Addiction. It’s not a quick process if you have a lot of things.

The biggest thing I found is that you need to stay within in the sim you are on and while I have not tested this, I am guessing you have to stay in relatively close proximity to the package. I managed to thoroughly furnish the Theosophy sky box while packaging all my LeeZu one evening.

If you are packing a lot, I would advise you to get a scripted package that will allow you to scroll through menus to find the contents of the box. I use the Bright Container myself, which is old technology but works for me. And yes, you can pack into packages that already contain scripts, objects, notecards, etc. If I find more 100 Block items, I can simply jam them into that box from the same method.

If you check inside your package, it may take some time for the inventory to pull up but you should see this:

Any no copy items will have gone into that package. The rest transfer, so if you want to keep the folder in your inventory AND have a box of things, go ahead. I will be holding on to that folder for a day or two more and then maybe, if I can bear it, moving it to trash. In a day or two I might even “empty trash.”

Let me give you a quick review of my outfit. Start with the aforementioned LeeZu Baxter, whose work I can not BEAR to part with. Her newest top features a peekaboo peel off strap that drops down, so I put on the bodysuit that Kinu Mayako is offering for a mere 5L in the Pink Fusion Hunt. (Oh hunt items—another choice batch for boxing!) My skirt is Datrip Blackbart’s Pink Fusion Hunt item and my shows with anklets are from Mr. Gospel Voom and his innate knowledge of what turns men on. (I got lots of compliments on these shoes, ladies… hint hint).

My skin is Carina Larsen’s newest and I have to say I have a secret crush on her work. Her skins look like no one else’s but have a sophistication and freshness all at once that make them gorgeous and unique. My eyes are also from Carina and include a HUD for changing size, glow, and shadowing. I will be featuring more of these mesh eyes. Finally my hair is Chiaki Xue’s newest, a darling short cut that includes a little bouncy flexi so when I am hanging upside down, you can see it fly out.

The Seven Year Itch

My seventh rez day crept up on me today. I didn’t realize it until Stephen pointed it out to me, and then I blushed, realizing it was true. I have done the math and realize I am in my prime! (If there are four sunrises and sunsets per 24 hours, then it would be four days per 365 days, 365 days per year would make me 28 years old. I’ll take it!) I have enjoyed some celebrations already. Jaynine Scarborough, the wondrous amazing voice from Berlin, sang me an over-the-top Happy Rezday at her show that brought tears to my eyes. I reminisced with IronGut McAllister about when he DJ’d my first rez day. I got an amazing poem written for me. As Jaynine would sing, “It’s wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!” And despite the title, I don’t seem to be going anywhere.

In my seven years in SL, one of the most wonderful things that has emerged is the explosion of content available to consumers. No, folks, businesses don’t fail in SL because of content theft or because of lack of support from LL; they fail because the competition has become fierce and you have to provide great content with a tight business model. My look today includes some of the best designers in SL who created pieces for the 100 Block and a hungry shopping community.

First start with Cynthia Ultsch’s short jean jacket. I was so thrilled when I saw this come out. She has made it short to work with many different mesh outfits, open to show a little decolletage and open enough to accommodate different sizes in front. I fit it over Datrip Blackbart’s little rock n roll bustier (this can be found at his shop) and then wore that with Moonbubble Gothly’s high-waisted mini, where the material in the skirt goes up rather than down. I have to say I wore bustier and skirt out and got a lot of compliments. Of course the compliments may have come from wearing Gospel Voom’s high heeled Mary Janes from FaMESHed with their frilly ankle socks. In fact, I think for my compliment-givers, these were a delectable deciding factor.

Cruella Pennell often amazes me with her other-vision hair styles and her style and hairbases for 100 Block are no exception. With an intricately shaved texture, the hair base’s swirls correspond with my skirt while my long locks on top, tossed to the side, give my look height and movement. Limited edition earrings from Ganymede Galaxy from Limited Bazaar give me a touch of Wastelands with filament inside the glass bulb hanging off a gear. And the luscious skin Sawsan Secretspy is selling at 100 Block, is pretty and soft but has enough grit with the darkly lined eyes to make the look work.

All Saints Day

Halloween in my town was cold and rainy and windy and ghostless though the blowing of the winds was certainly chilling and the darkness was eerie. I sought a respite from the creepiness of the evening with Callie and her KittyCats. I had just gotten the cutest dress from Ivy Burner (group gift for Halloween—thank you!) and Kavar Cleanslate had come out with a whole bunch of new hair, including these lovely locks, wavy and all brought to the side. Callie had other ideas.

First she had me see her Silly Spook KittyCats. With a ghostly translucence, these kitties are scary but fun all at once (due to Callie’s charming artwork). The little feline ghosties tried to engage me in play, but I wasn’t quite into it.

Callie introduced me to her “Hell-O-Kittehs,” a group of underworld wildcats with choatic textures and crazy glowing eyes. They tried to suck me down into their inferno (reminiscent of more than one person who has told me to “go to Hell”), but I was rescued by…

Super Cats! These kitties pulled me skyward where I could float among the clouds. With their darling superhero costumes and bright masks, these caped crusaders assured my place in Heaven on All Saints Day. All three collectible KittyCats are available now at their store and on Marketplace.

Crème Brûlée

“Some of us are crèmes brûlées, unfortunately in the presence of those who would rather have corn dogs. We can try to degenerate into corn dogs to make them happy, or we can just accept the fact that we were made for Paris!” ~ C. JoyBell C.

Crème brûlée—that sweet creamy confection with the hard outer shell—a better metaphor for some personalities than mushy strawberry shortcake or fluffy angel food cake or fussy soufflé. It’s an elegant dessert with a subtle reward of richness and sweetness. This look gives the same—with a cream colored dress, criss-crossing over the chest with tiered ruffles on the hips, it’s a sleek look from LeeZu Baxter.

Look closely and you can see how LeeZu uses the materials feature in the SL Viewer to make the dress have a more matte material, especially compared to the glossy leather handbag from Goucchi/Steffen Garcia and my strappy gold sandals from Gospel Voom (both available at Collabor88) and my glossy gold earrings from Anastazja Brimm. It’s this juxtaposition of textures—just like the hard carmelized top of crème brûlée is broken open to find a creamy custard—that makes this look pure confection.

Chiaki Xue has just come out with this side-swept curly short style. No one does shorter, curlier styles like Chiaki, and the textures and curls in the hair add a humanness and complexity that many hairs lack in SL. My skin is Umazuma Metaluna’s newest offering, a rich beautiful visage with an optional glow and gloss for the lips. I added eyeliner from Ekilem, which is being offered at TDR Fusion, to pop the eyes, which are chocolatey confection from Umazuma.

Our mistress of the cruel arts of beauty seduces with her pale skin and deep red lips, dark eyes and curled hair. Start with the sexy burlesque outfit Synjari Myriam has made for Genre. Part of the Western theme of the event, the burlesque outfit features mesh top and bustle with a flexi skirt and lovely texturing and it’s offered at a terrific price (as is everything at Genre). Check out the lacing on the back!

My skin is one of Rocketta Haven’s surreal skins for the Designers United event going on right now, themed appropriately, “Surrealism.” While I don’t find surrealism a really sellable topic (how many times can you say “Ceci n’est pas une pipe” and wear it like you mean it?), some of the items push past the theme and offer beauty or utility. Certainly Rocketta’s ethereal set of skins got me to scamper over and with the alluring lips and gorgeous freckles on a pale gray façade, this is a beautiful alternative to the usual.

Valencia Southard teamed up with Nyunyu Kimono to offer a posing stool that includes some fabulous poses as well. While the stool seems awfully short for any avatar (you can’t see the legs amidst my skirt—I am hovering in the air), the poses are beguiling. (I did make myself 5’ tall in SL and the stool was still too short for me, incidentally.) I am not sure how the stool is surrealist but it’s certainly lovely.

My hair is Queue Marlowe’s other offering this week, a blunt banged curly ‘do with fullness and body. With a great color change hud, I was able to find this rich red color in a snap. Queue, Queue, how I love you!

There’s something about a classic dress and shoes with pearls that makes a girl a knockout. Start with this gorgeous dress that Shai Delacroix is offering at the Liaison Collaborative. She has fashioned a sexy gathered dress with a side sash and narrow belt in a figure-flattering pencil skirt design. She offers with it this terrific HUD for changing the colors and features across four different areas plus the option to simply turn the sash off.

I love the little slit in back and loved pairing it up with strands of pearls from Maxi Gossamer and Gospel Voom’s sexy and classic slingbacks with their little peeptoe.

This entry is, of course, named after Marilyn Monroe’s last film, ironically titled. Queue Marlowe took inspiration from Marilyn with this wavy, sexy ‘do and it’s tumble of curls framing the face. And what a beautiful face it is—one of Aida Ewing’s newest skins for the grand re-opening of Glam Affair. All the creators—Aida, Marilyn, and Amberlee—have been working hard to make new content to make this re-opening spectacular and Aida has outdone herself with the gorgeous skins she is offering.

It’s still hot here and a tall cool glass of fresh made lemonade is the ticket. This fresh look is invigorating too. Start with this lovely dress from Carmella Ruby. Carmella, who is known for her distinctive skins and shapes, providing the grid with a much-needed alternative to all the pretties out there, is now branching out into mesh clothing. She asked me to preview this dress and I was so delighted with the textures and silhouette, I decided to blog it. Carmella will be offering this dress and other gorgeous items with hand-made textures at very competitive prices (I heard her suggest under 100L for most items) so that folks who are unable to get their hands on quality mesh items regularly can do so.

My skin is one of Tricky Boucher’s 15 gorgeous offerings for the Arcade this time around, and it’s, as usual, stunning. With a variety of makeups and skin tones, Tricky is presenting these skins in the affordable gacha environment of the Arcade. (Whether you can get in is another question.) Just jam your linden into the machine and grab whatever you can get—they are all lovely.

My short ‘do from Chiaki Xue, another one of her stunning wavy short cuts, shows off the earrings and necklace that Maizon Rayna so generously offered as her Love Donna Flora contribution. The exquisite and intricate build of the jewelry is very representative of Maizon’s work with its gorgeous shapes and baroque sensibilities.

Ivy Burner has made this gorgeous dress with an Indian gold motif on the collar for the Black Fair (which will be closing soon, so get over there NOW). With a great halter neckline and a short-up-to-there skirt, it’s sexy and sensual and perfect for a girl with bright eyes. (I thought the turquoise would pop against the black and I’m right.)

I am showing Gospel Voom’s newest shoes, the Paris Peeptoe, which comes in satin or patent in several bold colorways. Once again Gospel wows with his beautifully designed shoe, which comes with the choice of slingback or full pump (you choose from the menu). Did they know when they wrote these lyrics that they were prescient—”mesh and lace”? Voshie Paine has combined them to make this lovely dress for the Black Fair. With a gorgeous system top in black lace over a beautiful flowing mesh skirt, this dress is extremely elegant, especially in black. (I took it dancing and the mesh skirt performed well. I would not do the tango but other moves worked.) I accessorized with pearl s from Barf Delicioso (yep, folks, examining the creator yielded that), which are being sold at Collabor88.

My mesh hair with color change bow is one of Truth Hawk’s newest. Pearl earrings are from Maxi Gossamer’s set at the Black Fair and my eyes are from Maddox DuPont’s group gift for his seventh rez day (old man!). My luminous skin is Hlin Blackbird’s lovely offering for the Black Fair.
