Why can’t I be more conventional
People talk
People stare
So I try
But can’t be
Cuz I can’t see
My strange little world
Just go passing me by

Today’s look is named after Fiona Apple because I was listening to Fiona Apple and this looks like a Fiona. In fact, this Fiona likes blossoms. My top is from Teresa Republic—a form fitting top with a panel of flowers running down the middle. I paired it with a skirt from Mikiya Alter with golden blossoms running along the hem.

I have two pieces of good news in this outfit. First, Queue Marlowe has been up to tricks, and my ‘do is from her newest line, which is a breath of fresh air from her with 92 color choices (talk about upload charges!). Queue has been working hard on this new line with new textures, new shapes and a new brand name for this line: Point B. She has more coming out soon… join her group to keep apprised.

My second piece of good news is Siddean Munro’s platform flip flops. Siddean has tried to address the same problem that Oct Oakleaf did with his sandals—trying to eliminate the “ankle join” for prim feet while making them easier to match. Her solution is smart and makes matching easy. The great thing about Siddean’s work is that she never sits back and says, “OK, I am done.” Continuous improvement is Siddean’s ethos, and that’s why she’s always one step ahead (gah, no pun intended).

So let people wonder
Let ’em laugh
Let ’em frown
You know I’ll love you
Till the moon’s upside down
Don’t you remember
I was always your clown
Why try to change me now

I have been attending lots of meetings lately.

For meetings, it’s best to leave off the bling and the tight revealing miniskirt and the fringed bra. It’s best to be remembered for your contributions and not your apparel. That’s why I wear this pretty but conservative ensemble which starts with the jacket from MariaElena Barbosa’s Marlene set. It has elements that are photosourced and it’s well constructed with a peplum skirt and smart cuffs. My skirt is a pretty one from como Setsuko, who has a whole gatcha full of these skirts. Shoes are a conservative and pleasing silhouette from Fallingwater Cellardoor. (I just love Fallingwater’s shoes—they are classy and versatile. I could see this pair working with a very sexy outfit just as easily.)

My skin is from Kira Ahn’s sale at dekade. I really liked the Vivienne set in the Bardot line. It’s sophisticated, mature and beautiful with a variety of makeups. Pick it up before Kira’s sale ends because once it’s gone, I presume it’s gone. Earrings are pretty little baubles from Delora Starbrook and I pulled my hair up in a ponytail from Parvarti Monday. Easy peasy.

Come Undone

When the day is done
And they lay me down to rest
Everyone will see
I loved you the best
When all is said and done
It’s simple and it’s plain
and if I had the chance
I’d do it all again.

She's Come Undone

Sad news for some in SL today, which is why I am wearing green. I actually wanted to find an outfit that illustrated the lyrics I show on this site, which now have a sort of double meaning considering some people’s love affair with the green (one I have never had, but then… I always preferred the white). I styled a bit punk, one who is a bit defiant. How come being that way always ends in tears?

I wanted to show a woman coming undone, and after an inspection of Delora Starbrook’s store, I found this top, which is made of ragged strips of cloth, wound tightly around the body (with *perfect* seams, as you can see). I show it with ripped stockings from Xaida Fang (only 10L!) and Doc Martin-type boots from Gospel Voom. I am digging the fingerless gloves I purchased via a search on XStreetSL from Yuli Orman. While their texture is photosourced, it’s styled well across the sculpties that make up the hand and arm portions of the glove.

She's Come Undone

The skin is a teary-eyed rendition from Tuli Asturias’ new Audrey line. I show without the alpha lipstick layer. I really REALLY hope we see that feature in another browser soon. Lolli Munster made the hair, and I am hoping we’ll see her at Hair Fair this year. Her profile says she’s back. I love her punky, dark, outrageous styles.

I Could've Been Miss Punta Blanca

Miss Delora Starbrook reminds me of Miss Punta Blanca. She could’ve but she didn’t want ta. Her pretty sundresses that just came out are perfect for a Miss. Delora has a thing with the sheen—her fabrics are silky sheeny soft. And she has included a pretty flower motif on these dresses. Her textures and system pieces are solid—they have to be. Usually she is dressing a much more scantily clad woman.

I Could've Been Miss Punta Blanca

I show this pretty frock with a skin from Fergie Finesmith, who solicited my review out of the blue. I like how Fergie is up front about the source of her skins—a mix of “non free templates by Evely Lane (EVANA skin) and free templates provided by Eloh Eliot and several free photosources around the net.” Can I make a comment on this? Not really. The skins are pretty, not outre or grungy. Very clean and nice and a good lower-cost alternative.

Summer Dancing

Last night found me “stuck” (yeah.. stuck because the music was so good) at SL7B listening to the infamous Bradley Gazov doing his great blues set, away from Hotlanta.

Summer Dancing

I wore a cute outfit for my night out. First a top from Delora Starbrook, pretty and sexy all at once, very well drawn in a beautiful color. Then shorts from Barbra Kungler with cute little sculpty cuffs. And pretty bangles from kikunosuke Eel.

Summer Dancing

Finally new hair AGAIN from Truth Hawks. This one has streaks—I am totally digging these streaks! (They are subtle today—I used dark blonde.) And the shape of this hair is sexy! Finally wedges from J’s. I can’t day enough about these shoes and their pretty toes. They are so versatile, so chic and up-to-the-moment, and so sexy. Thanks to all these great creators, I looked great at SL7B!

Fantasy Honeymoon

Well, honestly, what is a Fantasy Faire without a good wedding fantasy. I mean, come on, it IS a fantasy. Big wedding, romantic honeymoon.

Fantasy Honeymoon

This is all pretense to show one of Delora Starbrook’s offerings for RFL. With its beautifully rendered system pieces and amazing translucent skirt trimmed with silver thread (and absent ANY alpha texture problems… Delora needs to be giving half of SL a lesson in channels), this pretty piece would make a lovely honeymoon outfit (especially as it comes with optional silks for later play).

Fantasy Honeymoon

This was also a pretense to give you a glimpse at BastChild Lotus’ beautiful wedding ring, which any bride this lovely deserves. BastChild smartly includes a proposal box, engagement ring and wedding ring (as shown here). The blushing bride’s hair is coming down, as made by Truth Hawks and her gentle and anticipatory blush is provided by Tuli Asturias. (And no, there is no secret message about my own matrimonial plans in this blog.)

Little Black Dress

Read any fashion magazine and the key word for any woman’s wardrobe is the Little Black Dress or LBD. Simple in cut and style, it serves to make a sophisticated sort of blank slate upon which a woman can write fashion.

Little Black Dress

Delora Starbrook, normally known for her sexy camisks and silks, has been venturing into the dressmaking business as of late, and this little black number (one of several colors she offers), fulfills all the requirements for a good LBD. First we have the shorter length that thankfully doesn’t venture into mini-skirt range. Then we have the beautifully textured bodice leading around back to a sexy but not risque V’d back. Delora chooses to use one prim for the skirt and it fits well, making the entire silhouette elegant and sexy.

Little Black Dress

Hair is from an increasing product offering by BlueStarRUI Villota (who also made my terrific nails, scripted especially for model posing). Specializing in bobs of various lengths and hat-topped styles, BlueStarRUI offers some terrific cuts for the lady who wants more elegance than fluff. My necklace and bracelet by Rama Anatine are an elegant accompaniment to the dress with the mix of pearls and metal—a very classic adornment.

Little Black Dress

Finally these pumps by Nardya Rousselot with their clever little strap and almost spectator pump pattern provide a little flair to the LBD. Nardya always seems to have an incredible sense of style and elegance in her designs—these shoes are no exception. Black pumps would not do for this dress; colored pumps would stand out too much. This black and white pump is the perfect solution.

Lilly for RFL

This next week or two you will probably only find me blogging RFL Clothing Fair items. That’s because the Fair has over 150 creators donating their time and talents to raising money for RFL (Relay for Life). Each one of the participants has had to pay to be in this fair AND are donating at least FOUR items for which all proceeds go directly to RFL. It’s one of the best charity models I have personally seen in SL—everyone benefits. Kudos to Nevar Lobo and Amethyst Starosin!

What is remarkable as you walk around the sims, however, is considering how many 100s of people contributed time and effort and talent to this cause. From Grace Loudon’s absolutely exquisite New Delhi sim to Shaunathan Sprocket’s brilliant London with Trafalgar Square to the kind assistance of people like Samara Barzane and Phoenix Ember,  I am just blown away by how many people put effort into this, and all in the name of cancer research–around the world. (Even though it’s the American Cancer Society, Poppy Zabelin told me at SLCC the monies are actually distributed to worthy research and needs around the world. So if you are not American, this money still probably ends up in your country.)

As you walk around the sims, remember this. Click those RFL Vendors (which were a pain to load for the designers), and remember that 500L you are spending here or there is another $2 for cancer research. Its two bucks towards a few moments of pleasure for you and another step towards helping people with cancer. And please make sure you visit the RFyre store, where my dear friend, Raven Pennyfeather, has a put up a tribute to her father, who just finished a year of chemotherapy. I have been on the phone with her every day through this, and it’s not an easy battle, but worth the fight.

My note about lag: lag is a big factor at the Fair. Please do your best to reduce your script usage when entering the sims. Scripts can be contained in many prim items, like resizable or color changing shoes or hair, AOs, radar detectors, and bling. What appears to be an excess prim issue is REALLY a script issue. Once you remove those prims, you remove those script and the lag. You can also reduce lag on your own end by reducing your draw distance, unchecking avatar imposters under avatar rendering in the custom area of the graphics tab in preferences, and reducing your own ARC. You don’t have to walk around bald and shoeless–you just have to think about what you can do to help the issue. If you want more information about reducing lag, read Taturo Nino’s article for Massively, Gwenyth Llewellyn’s blog for Ana Lutetia, and Joel Foner’s blog.

Finally, when any sim has 50 plus avatars buying things, there will be lag. It’s that simple. The builders, vendors, and planners have done everything they can to reduce lag. Please have patience, plan to shop in off hours, and return again and again.

Lilly for RFL

Delora Starbrook, my lovely friend, will be selling this camisk among 3 other donated items, to benefit RFL. I could go on about the beauty of her textures, the prettiness of the pink with purple and symbolism of it, and how she has several other colors available for sale as well—but I won’t. Instead I will explain that Delora and I met through RFL and while it’s been a hassle for her to participate (PG sims and she has beyond PG content–she has had to edit a lot of her ads to fit the requirements), she has done so happily and sweetly. (Right, Delora?)

Lilly for RFL

I am wearing under this camisk Lorac Farella’s newest skin and honestly, one of the loveliest she has ever produced. Lorac recently had the opportunity to upgrade her equipment and it’s made all the difference. Her Emotional set, which she produced at the request of Mirja Mills, is a complete set but also includes bruised and disciplined skins for role players (not my cup of tea but for RP, you need something). Lorac’s skins are artistic, subtle, mature, and sexy. Her skin tones are revamped so that her darker skins look luscious and her lighter skins are absolutely elegant and gorgeous. I can’t say enough.

Lilly for RFL

Speaking of Mirja Mills, check out her hair. I bought the fat pack for this one because it’s just a lovely style—wild and restrained all at once. To be honest, my hair once looked like this in RL (not the color but the style), and I would be glad to go back. It’s sexy and soft.

Finally we have Zaara Kohime’s exquisite jewelry, right now being sold at the Accessory Fair. You have seen a fair bit of her work in my blogs, dear readers, but I couldn’t pass up on getting this lot and adorning Delora’s beautiful work with Zaara’s equally amazing work.

Pretty is as Pretty Does

I have a few friends in SL that I speak to more in IM than face to face. We don’t get together and party. We don’t play together. We just talk about inane things, like jelly donuts and who is cute and how crappy it is to go through rolling restarts. Nothing earth-shattering but very friendly and fun.

Pretty is as Pretty Does

Delora Starbrook is my sugar plum for such stuff. She IMs me, we chatter. She is designing—tweaking and tinkering and uploading, and I am writing blogs and sorting inventory and moving prims around. I have the sneaking hunch we are like two office workers, chatting across our desks while we work. She is the girl in the desk on the other side of the cubicle. Under normal circumstances we would not know each other but in this crazy place, we are thrown together and rather like each other.

Delora has delighted me more than once—in naming a camisk after me, in trying to quit smoking, and now in sharing her lovely work. This lovely tea-length dress by Delora reveals a beautiful mind, one that loves romance and prettiness. She has perfected her textures, layering brocade with subtle shadows and sheen. Here she combines sculpties and flexis well, making an overall dress that would make any woman feel beautiful wearing it.

Pretty is as Pretty Does

I show the dress with a dewy skin from Gala Phoenix and pretty let-down locks from Parvarti Monday. Cailyn Miller’s jewelry stands the test of time in SL—I believe I received this choker in 2007, and it still looks beautiful today.

Attention to the Details

Ever have one of those days when you see everything but what you really need to see? I had that yesterday.

I should have known something was up when I logged in and Delora Starbrook and Winter Jefferson both IM’d me at once. Delora said, “You’re in trouble.” Winter said, “I am a little put off…” I thought to myself, oh crap.. what now?

Delora asked to TP me in, so I accepted. I was up in her skybox in front of two sales panels from her store, and she had a cute little silks/dress thing on. She asked me how I liked it. I liked it a lot. Her textures get better with each creation. She builds her prims exactingly and textures them intelligently. I thought she did a nice job and I told her so. In fact, I said, I think one could almost go clubbing in it.

Attention to the Details

She passed back and forth in front of the sales panel and questioned me about my idea. I watched her pass back and forth, admiring the movement of the prims and how cute she was. She TP’d in Winter, and they questioned me further. What did I mean by clubbing? Did I really think it was a good “dress”? As I felt my foot going deeper and deeper into my mouth, I struggled… until I spotted the sale panel out of the corner of my eye and saw the name of the outfit—“Harper.”

Attention to the Details

Boy, did I feel like a dolt. I was camming in on Delora, on Winter, on everything but the words on that sales panel. When I finally realized, seven minutes later, it all made sense. Delora wanted to surprise me, and I ruined it by not paying attention to the details.

Delora has paid attention, however, from the pull of the fabric across the torso to the double belts to the flirty, barely-covering skirts. “Harper” comes in seven colors, including this rich brown and will be released today (Wednesday). I am honored to have this beautiful work named after me.

This hair from Carina Larsen was perfect for the sex appeal the outfit requires. I adorned myself with jewelry from Zaara.

Attention to the Details

The outfit requires either no shoes (for the girl who kneels) or in my case, gladiator sandals from J’s. J’s was the original for toe shoes and still makes the perfect little tootsies.
