Grown-Up Hippy

My wonderful aunt and uncle live in California. They are deep-seated liberals, borne of growing up in the age of Hippies. When they got married, my aunt carried daisies in her bouquet and my uncle had long hair—to his shoulders! (My uncle got stopped by the police in Highland Park, Illinois, when he was visiting her once because of that long hair.)

Now they are about to hit retirement age. They have not lost their liberal ideals, though the sparkle in their eyes has turned to a steely pragmatism. My uncle’s hair—what is left of it, is cut short. My aunt grows daisies now—under her orange tree.

Grown-Up Hippy

This outfit reminds me of women of her generation and inclination. The top is a great flowing silky top with a sexy decollatage (remember “free love”?) from Simone Stern. Pants are updated and chic from Anyusha Lilienthal.

Grown-Up Hippy

The jewelry is something our former hippie found at a cute jewelry shop in Solvang. With its handworked metal, highly shined onyx stones, leather lariat style, this artisan-crafted piece by Abraxxa Anatine would be right up her alley. She spoke to the maker (Abraxxa) when she got it and found out that it’s her true joy to make pieces that make her customers happy. She was fascinated with Abraxxa’s exquisite fine work and felt she was walking out of the shop with a piece of portable art.

Finally the shoes. She used to wear only practical shoes, and generally still does, but dressing up requires dress up shoes, and these designer pair from Onyx LeShelle are perfect. (She is not beyond materialism if it looks good and fits well, thank you.)

She is wearing the shoes with pants to show you how a really well designed prim toe shoe can work in SL. (This is not taken in 2.0, incidentally.) Onyx has somehow figured out how to combine the invisiprims she needs with the prims on the shoe so the wearer only has one piece to wear and not two. Therefore the prims do not obscure the pants or cause a conflict and if these came with prim legs, would not conflict with those. It’s great design, top to bottom—beautiful work with ingenious engineering.

Takin’ It Easy

It’s the weekend. I’m takin’ it easy.

Takin' It Easy

It starts with this cute top from Moxie Polano. Made of a sculpty on top and cutely cinched flexi skirt, this is a hippy tie dye I can live with. (Check out that texture. It is so cool!) I wear it over olive shorts made by 5thAndOxford Monitor (who is really CJ Carnot and Roslin Petion embodied in one avatar).

Takin' It Easy

I put on a choker from my friend, Aki Shichiroji. Aki is the queen of flowers. I have her Organica poppies and daisies all over my sim. My beautiful blush comes courtesy of Mallory Cowen.

Takin' It Easy

Finally the boots. Darn you, Fallingwater, you have made me come over and grab all the boots in sight. Fallingwater has been in SL for years and still persists, carrying her exacting and beautiful work through to each piece she issues. These flower-embossed boots (check that texture.. wow) make my easy weekend complete.

Near the Adriatic

There is nothing quite so beautiful as blue. OK, there’s green.. yes.. and red at certain times. And then there’s the beautiful white glitter of a diamond. But blue.. blue is the sea and the sky.

Near the Adriatic

This dress from Indyra Seigo, with its luscious pops of color, its graceful and sexy silhouette, and its casual richness makes wearing blue so easy. Indyra has mixed a simple black dress (worn sexily low cut) with a low-slung beaded belt and a ribboned hem. The dress is versatile yet unique—it reminds me of the hand crafted wealthy ladies like to wear when they want to look hippy chic. It’s not grungy or messy—it fits in all the right places.

I accessorized with Abraxxa Anatine’s absolutely gorgeous Karuka set. Abraxxa reaches farther and farther with each release, making the prims fit to her will with her beautiful textures and amazing aesthetic. Yes, I would gladly wear this necklace and bracelet in real life.

The shoes are from Onyx LeShelle, from the Maitreya Gold line. There is something so fantastic about the mix of materials and textures in these shoes—the feathers and leather and beads and snakeskin and metal. Onyx shows of her incredible building and texturing skills in these shoes (now you make a bead look that good—I dare ya). And the toes.. well.. they are to die for.

Make Love, Not War

This is one of my favorite things to say…”Make love, not war.” I usually applies it to incendiary blogs or discussions about shoes in the fashion bloggers’ group. This sweet organic ensemble brought me closer to my hippie roots.

Make Love, Not War

Sari Telling—woo! What a colorful store that woman has! I wandered over there after having seen her in at RFL’s Clothing Fair earlier this year. Sari has truly groovy things to buy in spectacular colors at great prices. I chose this ensemble out of the *many* things I purchased at her store. She’s got it all—from bracelets to henna to dreadlocks to skirts and tops to armwarmers, all in her characteristic bright colors.

Make Love, Not War

Wild hair goes with wild colors, and I chose Queue Marlowe’s beautiful Madison hair (which has served me in so many instances). Her curly texture is the grid standard for curly and this one is the one we all wish we had in real life—bouncy, curly, wild and sexy. (Like Cylindrian Rutabaga’s RL hair!) Pulse’s sweet freckled new Harmony/Mona Lisa skin suits this look with its freshness and youth. The curl on the edge of the lips makes me look a little knowing but also happy.

These exquisite shoes were hand fashioned by moon Ling. I have tried to get really close so you can see how intricate they are. They are like foot jewelry. She carries them in TWENTY SIX colors. No excuse not to get a pair.
