Inventory Clean Up

I won’t get into the horrifying mess that is my inventory. Notecards strewn all about, pushpins from landmarks stuck in wrong places, a grossly unsorted texture folder, and my animations and poses…? Really bad.

Inventory Clean Up

I did a post about this heinous task before (which I call “Inventoil”) and unfortunately, I will not delight you with the oddities I found in my inventory this time (of which there are quite a few). I just want to show you that I do not always wear an evening gown (despite rumors to the contrary)—especially when cleaning inventory.

Needless to say I threw some things on but in SL, you still look gorgeous! Take, for example, this flowered cardigan from Maya Levane. With its combo of a cleverly done system jacket and sculpties, it’s an ideal over-shirt with rolled up sleeves (for getting to work). Loose fitting jeans from Alla Ruff make bending over and picking up packed up prims heavy with poses easy. I did allow myself to sneak out to Renee Harvy’s store for some comfy shoes and I hit pay dirt with these cute little moccasins (decorated with leaves). They were only 20L!

Inventory Clean Up

In all cases, my Truth and Tuli folders are well-sorted, so I was able to whip out this lovely skin from Tuli, which is a remake of her Eva line, and a loosely-gathered ponytail from Truth Hawks. They both make it simple to make a good looking style quickly and easily.

Inventory Clean Up

The question is this: how many copies of this thing called “object” do I really need?

I wish I had a river…

It’s coming on Christmas
They’re cutting down trees
They’re putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on

I wish I had a river...

I am not a huge fan of on-location photos. The backgrounds kind of detract from the clothes, which is really what I am doing here. But Stephen Venkman and Cocovia Zoilin built a beautiful skating area on their sim and invited me over for skating today and I was very grateful after wrestling with gingerbread house icing. (It’s an adhesive—need I say more?)

Skating there reminded me of one of my favorite holiday songs by Joni Mitchell. I tried to dress appropriately and came up with this mashup of favorite designers. Sweater from Janie Marlowe, skirt from sachi Vixen, tights from Memai Avon, cowl from Morphine Janick (who has a sale on right now.. go go!), earmuffs from Antonia Marat and freakin excellent mittens from Nena Janus. A wind-kissed skin from Toast Bard gives me the touch of girlishness that skating requires.

I wish I had a river...

My skates are Bax Coen’s v2 set, which come in white, black, gold and silver with a new alpha layer option. She has packed them with the same resizing scripts from her boots and a skating AO that is quite nice. However, I opted to upgrade to Sala Snook’s AO, which has all sorts of fun stuff like jumps, skating moves, twirls, etc. The whole combination today made skating so pleasurable, especially in the crisp air of Stephen’s and Coco’s sim.

I wish I had a river...

I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on

The Trophy Wife

The trophy wife doesn’t have it easy. She is constantly under the scrutiny of not only her husband but also those around her who envy her or are critical of her.

The Trophy Wife

When a woman is under that kind of pressure it makes perfect sense that she must go shopping. And when doing so, she must make sure she shows off the gifts her fine husband has given her (so as not to hurt his feelings, of course). Take for example, this fine fur bolero and silk slacks and leather boots from MariaElena Barbosa, which is this season’s latest for MEB. The outfit has been deconstructed a bit (wearing the bra alone as it was included with the outfit will definitely NOT meet with the approval of the husband) so a silky tank from Janie Marlowe has been tucked in underneath.

A pashmina around the waist from Alla Ruff (purchased on their last trip to Milan) ties the look together while a Monicuzza Babenco designer handbag that she has recolored (from black as offered to brown—bless Monicuzza for making her handbag modifiable) is the punctuation on the outfit. She loves the huge diamond studs from Dnel DaSilva her husband gave her to make up for being late for dinner one night. (She has a very fine pout and uses it when it’s needed.) And do not forget the statement ring, this time replacing her wedding ring, which is out right now being reset with yet a larger diamond.

The Trophy Wife

Her skin is, of course, young and flawless. That’s why he married her. (Well that and her other young and toned physical features.) Tuli Asturias provides her youth and her professional makeup. Her casual but classy blonde-dyed updo is courtesy of Elikapeka Tiramisu, a new look at Elika’s salon. (And let me break out of the narrative to suggest that Elika’s Essentials Pack is the ONLY way to go when buying her hair. For a mere 250L, you get what is, ostensibly, a fat pack of colors which will be versatile for many looks.)

The Trophy Wife

It’s hard work but somebody has to do it.

Smooth Like Butter

There is nothing better than a sweater you can slip on that makes you warm and looks fashionable.

Smooth Like Butter

This great buttery sweater from Janie Marlowe comes from her new collection at Jane. Janie’s been doing SL clothing since almost the beginning of time, but what is great about her is that she realizes that constant improvement, even by rebranding, is what is necessary in this world. This sweater is a pretty and inexpensive top for nearly any outfit—great for mixing and matching. Her sculpties are well made; her textures are dead on.

I tucked a top from Aree Lillibub underneath. I love Aree’s store and hope she keeps doing her pretty little separates into fall. My pants I found during Hump Day by Genie Lassard. I bought ALL the pants. I am not terribly fond of the open button on top (I ate too much or have PMS or gained weight or what?) but the slim silhouette and great textures make these pants very usable if you have a long top.

Smooth Like Butter

My hair is my namesake from Queue Marlowe. I know Queue is working hard on several new pieces (though she has shown me nothing—I just get the residual angst in IMs from her). I love this hair. It’s so me (in RL as well as SL). And of course, I wear a beautiful Tuli Asturias, one that is a bit older but still stands the test of time.

Soul Sister

Ever meet someone in SL and feel they were you psychic twin or soul sister or something? I have had that happen a few times (Raven, Callie, KK, Chatty, Lanna, Eshi, Delora) but recently it has happened again—that magic of friendship. (And isn’t that what SL is about, deep down? Making friends.) I met my latest “soul sister” through a series of unfortunate events which led us to talking and then laughing and then just liking each other.

Soul Sister

I am taking it casual because with your sisters, you can be casual—you can take it easy and be yourself. You can show up in a casual tank top (this from Dick Wiesel), put on your cords (made by Janie Marlowe) and slip on some cute deck shoes (such cute ones from Renee Harvy) and run over and hang out, sip some wine, and chat and commiserate and laugh.

Soul Sister

My jewelry is from Maeve Mortlock, who just knows what girls like me like. I love how she has handcrafted the pieces, making them LOOK handmade with eclectic findings and beads and a collage of textures. She is offering this set at the 2010 Jewelry Fair, and I highly encourage you to visit her there or at her store because each piece is a very reasonable 59L. She has branched out beyond earrings, blessedly, and this set even includes a cute purse with sunglasses.

Soul Sister

Finally, my hair.. my luxurious curly locks that look remarkably like my real life hair. This beautiful head of hair comes courtesy of my aforementioned soul sister, Queue Marlowe. (Am I allowed to speak so enthusiastically about a friend so soon? Is it creepy?) Queue started working on this hair, sent it to me saying she was naming it “Harper” (which made me nearly dance around the room). I sent a RL photo of my RL hair late one night, taken right then and there, and she had to agree it looked very similar. It was kismet. Queue “got” something about me right off and channeled it into this hair. It shows her amazing curly textures, her skill with shaping hair in SL, and her terrific aesthetic. Thank you, Queue.

Saffron Skirts

The light is golden in the trees right now; summer is giving us her one last tease before it rains, the leaves all fall off the trees and winter comes to us. I am relishing every moment.

Saffron Skirts

This beautiful skirt from Zaara Kohime reminded me of that gold through the leaves of the trees. With her lush colorways, terrific patterns and rendering of the skirt with all its wrinkles and its uneven hem, Zaara once again wows. I especially like the high waist on this skirt with the ties around the waist and the ruffled prim at the top.

Janie Marlowe has opened a new store called Jane (terrific branding). She offers basic separates that reflect the sort of “emo” aesthetic that is popular among a certain subset in SL—pastel, grungified shades on frumpy sweaters and knit tops—kinda like what people are really wearing when they are at the computer. Janie can’t keep from making it pretty though and this top has great shadowing with a pretty lace on the top.

Saffron Skirts

Finally I show two designers’ pieces from the Jewelry Fair. First, Mouse Mimistrobell has grown by leaps and bounds with her jewelry work. This is what happens when someone keeps working on it—soon the prims do what she wants rather than her doing what the prims want. Her jewelry is beautifully antiqued and nostalgic. This choker (and thank you for the choker because sometimes that is just what I want) has beautiful metal textures and an exquisitely prickly dried-flower shape with a stone center. I love the organic shape worked with a metal—so ingenious.

My ruffle bracelet is from Evijan Cazalet, who has a relatively new store. She offers stones (great textures) on chains, artistic bracelets and this ruffled number which comes with a color changer for the ruffles, so you get 9-for-one without all the inventory. (And her prices are VERY reasonable.)

The New Yorker

I have never been to New York City. I have been many places—London, Paris, Berlin, San Francisco, Chicago—but not New York City. It’s amazing. I have several friends who are from there, many more who live there, but I just haven’t made it—not even the airport. But I will some day!

The New Yorker

As I understand, women in New York wear a lot of black (it’s just not a pink kinda town). So I donned this jacket from AvaGardner Kungler, a double jacket—leather over a snakeskin (what luxury!). AvaGardner has done a great job of shaping the jacket with sculpties, making it wearable AND fashionable. The jacket also comes with a single layer for you ladies who don’t want to get too warm but in the fall New York City has its moments of warmth and then it can turn chilly. My jeans are from California’s prettiest girl, Callie Cline, but their blackness makes the outfit so right coast. And a pop of color is provided by Janie Marlowe in the red tank.

The New Yorker

My hair, oh.. my hair.. I was beyond excited when I found out that Elikapeka Tiramisu has brought herself back to life in SL and is selling hair in the new SL Marketplace. I immediately grabbed all I could and I was not disappointed. This updo from Elika comes with her classic styling and perfect textures. Welcome back, Elika. We have MISSED you!

How do women in the city stay so thin and beautiful? Well they walk everywhere. These boots from JB Gazov are heels a woman can walk around the city in (and climb in and out of taxis in). My skin is one of Minnu Palen’s gifts for the lucky LeLook recipients. The flawless makeup is ideal for our New Yorker. And a statement ring makes its case on my finger, this from Cora Lu. I realize I am missing a handbag, which is a VERY important part of being a New York woman. Oh crap! I left it in the last taxi….

My Green-Eyed Love

My love, my green-eyed love
We’ll watch the clouds from above
C’mon, lift me up

~ “Green-Eyed Love” by Mayer Hawthorne

My Green-Eyed Love

These last few days before school deserve a good pop song and some casual clothes. It’s drawing to the end of summer and I never want it to end. (Make sure you listen to that song I link above!) The top is from Jamie Marlowe, who has just recently closed her store, and it’s a shame because her work is great. The capris are from Tuli Asturias, who does seem to get a lot of press in this blog. I wore them despite myself but they were so perfect!

My Green-Eyed Love

I ran to get one of the skins made by Juliette Westerburg, the darling of the alternative set. I really liked the skin over this gorgeous more full-figured shape from Xme Xue. I had to redo my eyebrows to get the crazy “winged” thing she had going on with the brows to settle down, but the colors are lovely—the lips are sensual and pretty and the blush through the skin is gorgeous. Hair is from Truth Hawks, who has decided to blow up the grid with a sale on all his hair. Asset servers are straining as inventories bulk up with Truth fat packs. (It’s not really LL causing all these problems—it’s all Truth’s fault.)

Foot Fetish

Feet in SL are … well the system feet are so so bad but really, can you expect them to be perfect? I can’t imagine it would make sense to have little separate toes and all that on avatars and making more graphics complications than is necessary.

Foot Fetish

But.. that causes a problem when you want to walk in the pixel grass with your bare feet. So the answer is prim feet, but honestly? Most bare prim feet don’t do anything for me. But.. oh… these feet changed my mind. Siddean Munro, one of the sponsors for this year’s Shoe Fair, has made these lovely tootsies and is selling them at the fair (which should be called Foot Fair, imho). Check these lovelies out: pretty little toes, actual real veins and not that putty look, ankles (!!) and even the creases around the achilles tendon. These feet are the next best thing to real.

Let me add that I STINK at matching feet in SL. I lack the patience to make it just right. But Siddean makes it pretty easy with her hud, which includes base foot textures over which you can color the foot. That makes a world of difference in matching the feet, frankly. The texture and variation in the foot appearance make much more sense, especially when you are matching to high end skins that also pay attention to realism down at the ankles. And her resizer is awesome. As my friend SC would say, “Love love love!”

Foot Fetish

Of course, the whole outfit is an homage to bare feet so it’s appropriately casual. I start a tank top from Janie Marlowe, who I believe is still having a sale over at Mischief before she clears the place out. I wear it with cutoffs from mappy Handrick and a cute little anklet from Leilani Siamendes.

Foot Fetish

Then we have the baseball hat that tops darling ponytails from Ageha Albatros. The cap has over 1000 variations, once you change the colors, the rivets, the button on top, etc. And it has that lovely.. foamy feeling. And a ring of dirt around the inside of the cap but that’s just in my imagination. I wear a fresh and young skin from Mallory Cowen, who has the corner on “glow” in SL.

I’m Like a Rare B-Side

“I’m just making you mixtapes with homemade covers, analog to show we’re lovers
And here under the jacket folds inside, I’ve taped my heart for you to find…”

Sometimes my SL is a kind of.. uh.. interesting. I mean, where else could I turn into a tiny, live in a huge Tuscan villa, or be interviewed on TV? Today I had the privilege of being on Designing Worlds with Saffia Widdershins and Elrik Merlin. Thank you for inviting me to speak.

I'm Like a Rare B-Side

Of course I had a quandary.. the ever-important problem popped up. What to wear? I chose to go casual. I had finally gotten out shopping and wanted to show off some of my pretties. Take, for example, this cute top Zaara Kohime featured as a Dressing Room item. I have the whole outfit in another color, but this alone is an ideal piece.

I wear it without the bikini top option here. These terrific jeans are from Janie Marlowe, who is sadly closing her store, Mischief, soon but only to open something new and more exciting, she says. A veteran of fashion in SL, Janie made some of the first and best casuals in the grid. Now she has it all on sale at great prices. Get over to Mischief as soon as possible to pick up the deals, including these great jeans.

I'm Like a Rare B-Side

This hair is one of those OMGs. Made by Kin Keiko (who has made a few of my other favorite short hairstyles), this pixie is ideal. I had to do a little adjusting to the hair, but I am not concerned. When you place the prims this close to a head, all those sliders on a shape can make a huge difference. (That’s why there is not more MEN’s hair, guys. You all want to be eggheads or blockheads or chin-heavy and then suddenly the tolerances for the prims gets out of whack.) Kin has lovely textures, a real sense of body and style to this hair. A def fat pack for me.

Earrings are from Jon Ree from his great Cowboy and Cowgirl shop. Get over there already and check out his amazing work, especially his turquoise jewelry.
