Ripple Effect

Ripple Effect

Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end. ~ Scott Adams

Ripple Effect

Funny how you meet a new person and it ripples through your life. Suddenly you are thinking of something you discussed and it affects how you do something else or it comes back to you days later while you are doing something else. It’s a ripple effect, when a new person enters your life. And it’s a ripple effect when you do something good for others. A positive push to the world.

Having put in my little bit for the day, let me show you this sexy ensemble, mostly made of stuff from the Black Fair, which is opening today. Start with this sexy dress from Cynthia Ultsch. Cynthia favors curviness over anything and this dress has it in spades with a sexy shape and gorgeous color. I accessorized with a new mesh belt from Mirja Mills and pearls that Maxi Gossamer is offering at the Black Fair. BabyChampagne Sass is offering these studded heels at the Black Fair as well.

Ripple Effect

My sexy skin is Sawsan Secretspy’s lovely exclusive for the Black Fair. With sensual glossy lips and a heavily lined cat eye, it’s arresting. My long hair is one of Truth Hawk’s new releases. I chose the fade in teal to work with the dress.

Ripple Effect

Every positive change has a ripple effect.

“I’m not afraid of dying. I’m afraid of not trying.” ~ Jay-Z

Picasso Baby

Jay Z, the rap star, the husband of Beyonce and daddy to Blue, is not just a rapper, entrepreneur, record producer, and rich man—he’s also an art collector. Recently he decided to do his own form of performance art called “Picasso Baby” at the Pace Gallery in New York. I first read an article about it in Vulture by Jerry Saltz and then found the video a couple weeks later. The critic, Jerry Saltz, loved it. “Maybe I was smitten by fame. I stayed for just about the whole six hours, and all I can say is that I don’t think I saw one instance where Jay-Z was not totally there, in the moment, working the energy.”

I was impressed by his summary: “I went in doubting. I left elated.”

That has nothing to do with what I have on except the idea of energy, giving and getting. The article said Jay Z would not put up with schmaltz—he wanted genuine energy and he fed off it for his performance. I really liked that idea. When I see stuff I want to blog, I am looking for that authentic energy… and joy in creation. Ariadna Garrigus continues to produce joyful work, it seems to me. This nightclub dress—translucent with shimmering silver stitchwork—is a case in point. She pushes her expertise with mesh by making this body-conscious see-through piece with matching mesh panties.

This sexy posing chair is Rogan Diesel’s contribution to FaMESHed. My skin is Tricky Boucher’s contribution to The Boutique. My jewelry is Maxi Gossamer’s contribution to Limited Bazaar and United Fashion Project. And my eyes are gorgeous peepers that Isabelle Requiem has for sale at TDR Fushion. My hair is Catwa Clip’s newest, a sexy up and down ‘do with wisps around the decolletage and face and a great HUD for changing hair color.

Le Fleur

La Fleur

“I will be the gladdest thing
Under the sun!
I will touch a hundred flowers
And not pick one.”
~ Edna St. Vincent Millay

La Fleur

Flowers fill the my world right now. The summer has been blessedly beautiful and perfect for flowers and other plants. My basil is absolutely magnificent; my impatiens are full and vibrant in my window boxes. I have a hanging basket of pink geraniums that is more flowers than leaves.

So I was attracted to a few pieces at the Love Donna Flora event because of their floral theme. First was this elegantly sexy dress from SamanthaSJones with big blossoming flowers and a great shape. Long sleeves that billow out slightly lead up to a sexy low cut neckline and a hem that pulls up in front and in back. I really love how Samantha uses texture on all her clothes. She doesn’t just recolor—she uses pattern and colors to create sheen and interest. This dress if one of her generous donation pieces for Love Donna Flora and comes in six colorways.

La Fleur

My shoes are also a donation for Squinternet Larnia from Gospel Voom. With a beautiful blowsy blossom print on them, they match the dress perfectly, and are blooming great with Gos’ great color match system. Fun poses from Lashae Karsin, also completely donated for Love Donna Flora, help me show everything off.

Aida Ewing is donating proceeds from a few skins at Love Donna Flora, but I am ashamed to say this is not one of them. I preferred how this red lip looked with the dark hair from Mirja Mills, featured at the Hair Fair (closing Sunday so get over there and help Wigs for Kids). With pretty blue eyes from Keiba Resident, available at the Seraphim Social, and a gorgeous necklace from Maxi Gossamer, this look is elegant and chic—hence not just a flower but “la fleur.”

Fresh Peaches

Fresh Peaches

“Life is better than death, I believe, if only because it is less boring, and because it has fresh peaches in it.” ~ Alice Walker

Fresh Peaches

My mom gave me two dozen peaches that I now have to find something to do with. We have had grilled peaches, peach cobbler, frozen peach yogurt and raw peaches. The rest are getting frozen. Summer always brings a bounty. That is not what this blog is about but I have peaches on the brain as they sit down there waiting for me and quickly ripening.

This blog is about some shiny new options. First, let me talk about my jumpsuit from Ariadna Garrigus. Long and lean and tied with a  great big bow, this mesh jumpsuit will take you from shopping to clubbing in no time, especially with these great heels from Synny Whelan, who has added an option to show studs and lace in any color. I opted for lace in black and black toenails. I love options!

Fresh Peaches

Speaking of options, Queue Marlowe has come out with a new way to wear her hair—she includes a HUD with her three newest styles.

Fresh Peaches

Queue has, of course, so many options, it’s almost impossible to choose. Each hair comes with 12 color choices and, depending on the shade, up to 17 ombre fades. Additionally, she includes a tinting option so you can tint to whatever you want. This hair is entirely customized by me. This is how I got the look I am showing:

1. I chose the Shea/purple ombre fade.

2. Then I went to the tinting and started messing around until I found a shade of pink I liked and upon clicking it, I chose the load option in the pop up menu.

Fresh Peaches

3. I realized my hair base would not match so I determined the base from the handy graphic Queue has included with the hair and copied the base. Then, using edit appearance, I tinted the hair base to match the hair.

No one else on the grid has this hair. It’s unique to me. That’s options!

Fresh Peaches

Speaking of options… you can now get the fancy pants specular maps in the SL Viewer. I had turned it on and forgotten until I was taking photos of this gorgeous necklace by Maxi Gossamer that is offered at Collabor88 and I saw the light play across it (that’s the purple you see there—it’s way cooler live). I was so pleased to see that! To turn it on, make sure you click “Advanced Lighting Model” in Preferences > Graphics.

I am wearing Aida Ewing’s skin for Collabor88, which opened yesterday and is, of course, packed. As always, she presents a fresh face with glowing features and gorgeous classic eyebrows, nose and lips.

Seduction is always more singular and sublime than sex and it commands the higher price. ~ Jean Baudrillard

A long slinky dress in black with little flickers of skin showing, a strappy sandal, a sexy back, long wavy hair and deep red lips and nails. Who could be immune to this seduction? This incredibly sexy dress is a creation by Joeylin, who has exploded with gorgeous, sexy content since I last saw her shop a few months ago. The texture on this dress is peekaboo, as many of her textures are, though this is incorporated with the dress (the dress includes both lighter and darker skin versions).

I am wearing Gospel Voom’s latest shoe, the Eva. It’s a classic, old-school vamp with a stiletto heel. As always, the skin matching is a breeze with his special matched library of skins. I colored the nails red and ran out to get Jamman’s mesh nails, which I had been hearing a lot about in Fashion Emergency. With a special hud, I can adjust to three lengths and several colors of red with the set I bought.

Tricky Boucher probably has the most seductive skins in SL. With soft and sexy features, the Shyla skin has a ton of attraction power, especially with the red lips I added from the set. Long wavy locks from Truth Hawks’ new collection soften the look, making me old-school movie star fabulous and Deco jewelry from Tiffy Vella adds elegance and completes the look.

Subterranean Homesick Alien

Subterranean Homesick Alien

Up above
Aliens hover
Making home movies
For the folks back home…

I wish that they’d swoop down in a country lane
Late at night when I’m driving
Take me on board their beautiful ship
Show me the world as I’d love to see it

Subterranean Homesick Alien

Sometimes Radiohead lyrics mean nothing–or snippets do. But this song is an actual story—and I like it. Who would we meet on board their beautiful ship?

Subterranean Homesick Alien

I climbed aboard Matchbook Monday’s new beautiful ship when I went to see her new jewelry store, Amorous, and I was shown the world as I love to see it. The build itself is pretty impressive—a lift takes you to the showroom floor with jewelry of amazing quality and textures. (It’s such an impressive build I actually shot on site and you are being subjected to a few extra shots.) Matchbook built the entire build herself—which shows she really has the chops to make things, big or small, in SL.

Subterranean Homesick Alien

The feature of this blog, of course, is her jewelry. The necklace and earrings I am wearing include color changing scripts so you can choose a variety of color combos between the gems, making the necklace infinitely versatile. Most of her jewelry features such flexibility. She is still filling the store with goodies but what she has already is amazing. I love her use of offset circles and rich textures in many of her pieces. I can feel the weight and quality of this jewelry just looking at it.

My skin is one of Juliette Westerburg’s distinctive looks, one I believe I got as an exclusive a year ago. Juliette likes to play with ideas and looks, breaking outside the box of normal SL makeup with her hand-drawn pieces, which suits this beautiful jewelry. My hair is from Elikapeka Tiramisu, the grande dame of hair in SL.

Subterranean Homesick Alien

My dress is one of the lovely offerings for the Platinum Hunt from Zoey Gabardini. She gives you this dress with both silver and gold bodices and the terrific sculpty skirt for a mere 10L. The hunt’s still on—don’t forget. My boots are from Bax Coen, and I want to note that Bax has done somethign I wish a lot of shoe and boot makers would do. She has made it so you can exchange your old Prestige boots for new versions that include invisiprims that can be clicked off. This is important because 1. we don’t need invisiprims in most clients anymore—the alpha layer solves our cankle problem and 2. invisiprims cause icky problems when using shadows. I ran to get my replacement boots when I went to do these photos so I could show the beauty of the boots and the build—not my invisiprims.

Subterranean Homesick Alien

I’d tell all my friends
But they’d never believe
They’d think that I’d finally lost it completely

I’d show them the stars
And the meaning of life
They’d shut me away
But I’d be all right
All right..

They’re all uptight.. uptight.

Taken on site at Amorous at the Matchbook sim

I saw our town’s Homecoming parade the other day and had to explain to my son what “Homecoming” is. (For my non-American readers, it’s a tradition in high schools and colleges in the US to welcome back former residents and alumni for a weekend. Typically there is a parade, football game, and dance or party. It’s a big deal for teenagers.) More friends have come back to SL, so it’s homecoming there too. It’s amazing—once this place has a grip on you, you can’t leave—not forever. Welcome back, Rouns and Hung. I am still waiting on Peter :P

This is all gonna tie together.. you’ll see. First off, let me talk about this gorgeous dress from Mami Jewell. Mami has grown her business with dresses of elegance and drama. This dress is no exception. With the lush purple texture running in gentle folds over my avatar, the spectacular ruffles surrounding the face and decolletage, it’s a dress that could push into melodrama but doesn’t because of her muted textures and minimal decoration.

Anyone who is familiar with the dress knows I left a beautiful waist piece off. That is because I wanted the main decoration for this ensemble to be Abraxxa Anatine’s newest offering, a choker and earring set. Abraxxa is offering this set at the 2010 Jewelry Fair, and it’s probably one of the loveliest pieces in the whole fair (which is saying a lot because there are a ton of wonderful pieces). Abraxxa, I am sure most would agree, is the one of the most prolific and amazing jewelry builders in SL, and this piece is no exception with its elegantly draped chains and brilliant gem textures. Where else will you find a black opal like this in SL?

Abraxxa packs even more goodness into her jewelry by including scripts which will allow you to make them your own. In this case, the locket opens and allows you to load up to 100 photos of loved ones. (In this case, my grumpy old man avatar is the one you see here as he holds a special place in my heart.) I will be loading photos of my friends—the ones still in SL and the ones who have yet to attend Homecoming. You are all dear to me.

First Flowers of Spring

It’s a little early here to trumpet the arrival of flowers. Even the crocuses know better than to poke their heads out just yet. But a certain flower has decided to poke her head out and grace us with her beauty.

First Flowers of Spring

Eshi Otawara has ventured back into SL tentatively, first with her showing at the McQueen tribute show and now with another one of her One-Hour Builds called Symphony of Science-The Poetry of Reality. Despite the abstract title, the flowers are really truly beautiful. There is a fashion hook here, folks. She is offering the beautiful necklace you see, your own wearable piece of this beautiful build.

First Flowers of Spring

The dress is from a Japanese designer, ruby69kill Moonites. I stumbled on her shop on one of my weird exploratory adventures. The dress works well for this piece of jewelry and has a nice little peekaboo. The luminous skin is from Mallory Cowen and suits the glow of the entire build.

First Flowers of Spring

Come see Eshi’s work. Buy the necklace and take a piece of her with you.

Orange Glow

It’s gray outside. The world needs a little color.

Orange Glow

I put on this cute little batik fabric number from Carrie Snowpaw. It was one of the 60L weekend deals, and a good bargain with its great color and flirty skirt. Her little shop includes a number of cute dresses and outfits. Carrie is clearly a designer learning her craft.

Orange Glow

Allow me to brag on myself for just two minutes. I made this necklace well over a year ago and now sell versions of it at RFyre under the brand Fyreworks. Each piece is hand laid (no machine existed at the time), made to fit my avatar, but it will fit yours too. No sculpties, just tortured prims (that tortured me).

More Spring Flowers

I can see more people have the same idea I do. We’re screaming for spring! (Apologies to all my friends in the Southern Hemisphere.)

Spring Flowers

Today’s visit to a springtime flower garden comes courtesy Nicky Ree. I think she’s in the same state of mind. I show here two sets actually, both using the same pattern from Nicky’s Autumn Dance collection (I bought both—I couldn’t decide.) First the shorter dance dress (which also comes in another version). With the ruffled neckline and flouncy ruffled skirt, this is at once sexy and girlish. The brilliant addition is the solid wide belt around the waistline—it makes the dress go from purely flowery to stylish.

This is the difference between a new designer and an expert—Nicky is able to wrangle her textures and prims into making the look she wants. Flowers go from proportionally small in the top to larger on the prims, the waistline shows as a solid piece even though it extends from the top to the skirt prim, prims are all perfectly placed and textured. Nicky controls what she does—she turns the “bugs” of designing in SL into “features.”

Spring Flowers

Then I show the Dance Gown. With its elegant line, full trained skirt, and detailed wrist it is a breath of fresh air—the first window open after a long winter indoors.

I found what I needed to gently compliment the dress at Maeve Mortlock’s store, Ear Candy. With every piece going for 59L, Maeve makes stocking my jewelry box inexpensive and delightful. Her earrings look like no one else’s—clearly Maeve has a great stash of beads and textures to work with and she uses them with joy. My biggest complaint? The jewelry is copy/no trans. I can’t give gifts. Otherwise Maeve would be making a lot more linden as I pass these baubles out to all my friends.

Spring Flowers

It’s spring fever.  That is what the name of it is.  And when you’ve got it, you want – oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!  ~Mark Twain
