Stone Rollin’

Fat lady shakin’, backbone breakin’ (come on)
(This girl of mine)
Everything she’s got is movin and hot (come on)
(This girl of mine)…

You don’t call her fat but that girl is stacked
(she’s got my mind)
Everything is wide–she walk with much pride
(she’s got my mind)

There was no way to prepare
Nothing I could see
All I saw was a woman
Walking up to me

~ Stone Rollin’ by Raphael Saadiq

Stone Rollin

There’s a song I have been hearing on KCRW for a few months that finally got released so I can link to it. I have wanted to blog this song for a long time because this is the woman I know a lot of us are, and I know a lot of men love.

I have dressed myself up in a dangerously short dress (to show those great legs) from Monica Outlander. A fuller woman can pull this look off quite well—she has the assets to make a dress like this look hot. Kalnin’s shows, with their versatile HUD, which includes colorways for skin, nails, and the shoes themselves and a full menu for resizing makes this look easy to finish.

Stone Rollin

My shape is from Xme Xue, who produces beautiful sexy full-figured avatars for women who want to be more than stick thin. What’s brilliant is that Hart Larsson’s newest skin, Gaia, fits perfectly over this sexy shape. I wore his skin in V2.6 so I could pile on the layers—hairbase, eyes, and lips—to make this sexy and sultry look. Wild curly hair from DBS Heart completes me.

Stone Rollin

I say, Booty Woman, you turn me loose.
I need to go home, I can’t stand your moves.
You see your high heels are killin’ me
It’s like your bad ass thighs are shakin’ me. (oh yeah)

I Like Big Butts

A designer friend recently came into group chat for Designers in Seclusion and asked us how we could help her explain to a customer that the system skirt makes your butt look larger. I remember noticing this phenomenon when I was first in SL (“OMG, I look fat in this!”) but realized it was simply a feature I needed to learn how to use (and not a bug). Let’s do a quick tutorial on system skirts so we can choose whether we like big butts.

I like big butts

In the second photo, I am wearing a gorgeous new dress from Barbra Kungler wearing my normal shape. Barbra has opted to use the system skirt to show the beautiful texture on the skirt as if it was stretched tightly around the torso. It is a thin sexy silhouette that looks fantastic.. IF you wear it right.

I like big butts

Now, I DO like big butts—I sport a healthy one on my regular shape.  However, if you look at my rump in this dress, I push past the sexy Joan Holloway back end to something borderline absurd. The reason the system skirt functions like this is because the system skirt was intentionally designed to lie a few pixels above the shape—it has to clear all the movements of the avatar walking, turning, etc. There is no way for a designer to make the skirt fit more tightly. It is what it is.

What most intelligent and discerning avatars do is make an additional shape they call their “skirt shape,” and they put that on when they wear system skirts. In my case, I have notched down two sliders—the Saddle Bags and the Butt Size under the Legs option–in my shape. Barbra’s fantastic dress now looks great on me. Consider your skirt shape a sort of virtual Spanx and use it wisely. I really hate seeing buttless avatars. “I like big butts and I can not lie.” But don’t blame a designer when that system skirt looks too big on you.

I like big butts

I am showing another of Queue Marlowe’s fantastic new hairs with this outfit. Again, I am wearing her magic tattoo layer hair base, which is colored to match the hair perfectly. I love how the wisps show around the nape of the neck and the sassy shape of the ponytail.

I like big butts

So Fellas (yeah) Fellas(yeah)
Has your girlfriend got the butt (hell yeah)
Well shake it, shake it, shake it, shake it, shake that healthy butt
Baby got back

Feeling Beautiful

Today I got up early, made pancakes, watched the tail end of a movie, then drove to the salon for some pampering. I got my hair cut, colored and highlighted and a manicure, and I felt just gorgeous when I left. What is it about these moments of self-transformation that make us feel so wonderful? Is there some beauty spa endorphin rush someone hasn’t discovered? Maybe it’s those relaxation candles they have (though they never work quite that well at home.)

Feeling Beautiful

This dress from Elettra Gausman also gives me that same kind of charge. With its great faux animal print (looks kind of Filter Forge), the dress is well made with the texture logically carried out through the bodice, into the skirt and the sculpty shoulder piece. Elettra gives it a sexy cut up the side and wraps the torso with the edge line to make the waist look even smaller. It’s great design. What I really like about Elettra’s work is that she creates a brand new item with each thing. I never see motifs or templates repeated. She doesn’t make one dress and then 12 color variations of it. Each piece stands out on its own and when she shines, she really shines.

Feeling Beautiful

I have donned a new hair from Mirja Mills that creates movement and drama in this photo. She called it “Windblown,” and it really is. Nena Janus’ elegant and sexy skin completes the look with bright red lips.

Feeling Beautiful

I love these new shoes from Kalnins with their strappy silhouette. These have to be my favorites they have offered yet, and they provide their own sort of endorphin rush.

Dignity

“Remember this – that there is a proper dignity and proportion to be observed in the performance of every act of life.” ~ Marcus Aurelius

Dignity

Dignity—it’s a quality lacking so frequently nowadays, from the politicians taking shots at each other in debates on TV to the rants in the forums about SL to the profiles claiming ownership over others, like some sort of Jerry Springer show. I believe in dignity. I believe in presenting myself with dignity (except when I am a pig avatar—then all bets are off). Today I want to look elegant and dignified. And this dress from monica Outlander’s newest release of formal wear fits the bill. With the lace textures appropriately proportioned over the bodice and skirts, monica shows yet again she understands the scale of pieces of clothing on an avatar. Her beautiful flower-shaped collar completes the dress with a bejeweled brooch that has become the motif of many of her formal pieces.

Dignity

I wear a skin from Ryker Beck’s new offering at the Dressing Room Blue. I have shied away from Ryker’s skins in the past, just not finding them hitting the right buttons for me, but this skin definitely looks great on. I particularly like her eyebrows and nose. Another feature that catches my eye is the skin on the decolletage, which is so often flat or ignored–she includes moles, a great collarbone and a well shadowed neck. (Never underestimate the importance of this!)

Dignity

So many roads, so much at stake
So many dead ends, I’m at the edge of the lake
Sometimes I wonder what it’s gonna take
To find dignity

Ontology is Sexy!

Every campus has one: the sexy male professor, the one that make the women (and men) suddenly become serious about postmodern theory because it’s just so delicious to hear him say “ontology” or “zeitgeist” or “paradigm.” (Can you say Indiana Jones..?)

Ontology is Sexy!

The really sexy professor is the earnest one, the one who is so oblivious to girls’ and boys’ admiring glances as he eagerly buries his head in another issue of The American Journal of Semiotics. He wears a jacket (this from Yaszi Mornington) and khakis (thrifted at Floatie Hocks’) to school so he looks older than the kids and wears practical and handsome oxfords for walking to class from his apartment nearby (these being the newest from Eponymous Trenchmouth) and designer glasses—his one indulgence (from Kalnins). He carries his books in his beaten messenger bag from grad school (suitably battered by Guu Nishi) and flings a scarf he picked up in India over his shoulders for a touch of flair (embroidered by Zaara Kohime). (He may seem like an absent-minded professor, but he understands beautiful bricolage just fine, thanks.)

Ontology is Sexy!

Thank you to Hart Larsson, I have brought my sexy professor to life with his newest men’s skin. Hart has built in so many options with these skins—whiskers, hair bases, emo eyeliners, and an optional scripted cock that he sculpted himself. I will not comment upon the cock, except to say that Hart is an excellent programmer and has made it to have 6 positions. When I wore this skin, I literally gasped. Hart’s artistry is readily apparent with his talents at drawing and illustrating clear. The eyebrows are well-shaped and masculine without being those of a primate, his eyes are simply drawn and mature, and his face is handsome without being dainty. I think this will soon become the skin men flock to.

Just Won’t Burn

Oh but I know I’m gonna be alright
If these blues are hangin’ around
Hangin’ ’round…
Oh… hangin’ ’round
~ “Just Won’t Burn” by Susan Tedeschi

I want to know something. I want to know why women in blues get such short shrift. I go to blues clubs in SL, and I have to have a female DJ playing to hear women doing the blues (unless I request from the male DJs, and even then I get some resistance—“Never heard of her”).

Women can’t feel blues? Have you ever HEARD Susan Tedeschi?! (I also want to know why her Wikipedia entry is so much shorter than her husband’s, even though she is more academically and musically accomplished than he is. And I won’t even comment on how the two wikis frame their marriage differently. Bah!)

Just Won't Burn

With that being said, when I am stepping out to hear a DJ like BluJns Benoir (who plays lots of women blues artists, thank you), I want to look hot but classy. An outfit, like this one from Sascha Frangilli, fits the bill. With the capris (made for boots, but I wear them with high heels), three top choices (including the corset I chose here), the clever jacket belt layer, and a sculpty bolero jacket, this offering from Sascha makes me feel sexy and bluesy.

Just Won't Burn

Monicuzza Babenco’s skin, as shown here, was offered at the Dressing Room but is a clear indication of the quality of Monicuzza’s work. She clearly photosources but blends her details in a manner that is beautiful and believable. And these heavily-lined eyes are perfect for a night out at a blues club.

Just Won't Burn

Finally my shoes from Maris Kanto complete the look. His work gets better with each progressive shoe he releases. The best part, however, is the HUD, which allows you to color the skin in progressive notches of 5% with a PICTURE of the color change before it goes. For the toe-coloring deficient like myself, this is a huge advantage. Maris’ shoes also come with color and metal-changing capabilities as well as the standard toenail color-changing. And if you join the Kalnin’s group (which doesn’t require a slot), you get all sorts of tasty discounts.

Flowers in Her Hair

My RL birthday is soon approaching, and I am in RL denial. I would like to believe I am ageless and timeless, dancing through life with nary a wrinkle or stretch mark or gray hair. What’s so wonderful about SL is that I can do that!

Daisies in Her Hair

And I can do it wearing this gorgeous dress from Kotobuki Jewell, a beautiful reminder that spring will someday return. (It’s been rainy and gray and cold.) Kotobuki’s textures are, as always, vibrant and shining. She has somehow mastered the skill of making her materials look expensive and satiny. Her shadow work is impeccable and her seams are top notch.

Additionally, Kotobuki knows how to build a versatile outfit, in this case a dress that is built from the ground up. First you have a very pretty one-piece swimsuit, then the top with a wrap skirt…

Daisies in Her Hair

Then a dress with long prims reaching to the ground.

Daisies in Her Hair

And finally the beautiful flounced skirt prim seen in the first photo. It can be worn with or without the long skirt prims. I chose to wear without.

Daisies in Her Hair

I have paired the dress with a glowing skin from Tuli Asturias, complete with spring green eyeshadow. My hair is a beauty by Kavar Cleanslate, complete with the aforementioned daisies and a vibrant *youthful* messiness. The hairband has a color change script, so it’s also versatile.

Black Blossom

The Spring has been unseasonably warm around me with the daffodils yawning their sleepy spring heads in the torpor of the unusual warmth. Summer clothes are quickly getting hauled out of the storage.

Black Blossom

Elle74 Zaftig is anticipating the warmth with this lovely new dress. With its spaghetti straps (tied with sweet bows on top) and full lacy skirt. She echoes the theme of the top into the skirt and scatters pretty pink daisies across the field of black to lift the dress from goth to springtime.

Black Blossom

I pair with it this fresh springtime skin from Tricky Boucher with its softly glossed lip and faint blush. Wind chime earrings from Plurabelle Laszlo jingle in the soft breeze of warm air and Maris Kanto’s beautiful and sexy color changing sandals (set to black and pink with bright pink polish) finish off the ensemble.

Bring It On!

The warm weather I mean. Maybe a pretty little summer dress will hasten the sunshine and warmth.

Bring It On

This darling ensemble from cyam Crystal might bring the sun out. The two pieces are sold separately so you can mix and match. I really love the tied shirt with its cheerful floral print and cute casual tie. The dress has a lovely eyelet skirt and a typical sweetheart neckline bodice.

Bring It On

I accessorized with some turquoise treasures in my inventory—bangles from Eolande Elvehjem and earrings from Jon Ree—both made and textured beautifully. (If I could have a more extensive jewelry collection in RL, they would both contain pieces like this.) A loose and lovely hair from Parvarti Monday tops me off, blonde and carefree.

Bring It On

My sexy shoes are from Maris Kanto. I have seen shoes very much like these walking around the pages of In Style and I love them. The stitching and studs make them somewhat ethnic/hippy without losing their high heel appeal. And Maris, as always, includes his fantastic skin-matching and color-choosing HUD. One of the best on the market.

Sun and Sand

It’s cold and rainy outside. It’s time for a trip to the beach.

Sun and Sand

A perfect outfit for this fantasy is Opal Lei’s new bikini and sarong set. Known for her beautiful mermaids, Opal has tried to emerge from the water and put her beautiful textures on humans too. She has done a darn good job. In this set, she provides both a Merkini and a Bettakini (you see the Merkini here). Merkini has a simple scale texture while Bettakini has a fin texture overlaid on the scale texture. Both come with the package so you can choose what you prefer. The colors are rich, the work impeccable.

Sun and Sand

I wore a bikini actually to show off my beach skin, a new one from Aradhana Voight. Known best for her beautiful saris and elaborate Indian-influenced jewelry, Aradhana has ventured into the skin trade and her gifts serve her well here. I will say I tried several hairs with these skins and opted for one of Truth Hawk’s darker colors—Aradhana’s skins need the deeper color to match the dark eyebrows and make-ups. Make sure you find Aradhana’s store on the New Delhi sim, which she is generously sponsoring for the RFL Clothing Fair, starting March 13. Make it worth her while and pick up a few of her gorgeous skins. I include pretty jewelry from Narita Rayna, being sold at this year’s Accessory Fair.

Sun and Sand

Finally take a look at my tooties. Maris Kanto has come out with another pair of gorgeous toe shoes with their versatile huds for changing the color of 3 different elements of the shoe, the skin, and the nails plus the hardware. They do everything but dance for you!
