Baby Don’t Tolerate

Baby Don’t Tolerate

Now a small and more ordinary man
might not appreciate the guidance of a good woman who truly loves him.
He might drift in despair after the ignorant dumb doins’
of his dirty daily existence.

That’s not me. No, Yessiree. I’m proof that true love will set you free.
Some things, my baby don’t tolerate
my baby don’t tolerate
my baby don’t tolerate
from me.

~ “My Baby Don’t Tolerate” by Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt

Baby Don't Tolerate

Loved these lyrics from Lyle Lovett and made a lady who won’t tolerate. I decided to layer mesh that perhaps wasn’t meant to be layered but I don’t care because I have been holding on to this fabulous mesh fur coat from Adrianne Stormcrow for months, since I got it at the last Thrift Shop at a discount. The new Thrift Shop is opening February 6, and I’m excited to see what bargains are in store. I wored it over a dress from Poulet Koenkamp which already had a fur coat over it, but I liked how the dress looked peeking under this coat because of Poulet’s fabulous textures, and if I hadn’t told you, would you have known?

Baby Don't Tolerate

My fabulous shoes are the almost-newest from Glamistry, the work of the former owner of Kalnins, who also did work for Redgrave. The great thing about Maris (Glamistry) is that he combines some awesome scripted pyrotechnics in his shopping experience with amazingly sexy design. Join his subscribe group and you’ll find out what I mean. You get a wearable HUD that delivers demos to your home and will direct you to his store or marketplace in the click of a button. Then purchase the shoes and you get a full-featured texture change HUD with the ability to purchase more options for add-on. And many of his shoes are made for more than Slink feet. This pair, for example, was fashioned for the Maitreya feet.

Nicole Button just released the applier for the Maitreya Lara body, and I was delighted to use it. Nicole’s skin tones are pretty unique—you can’t just choose a texture already on a mesh body to match—so using the applier is convenient. And I am thrilled to show this rich skin tone with Nicole’s lovely eyes. I donned one of Truth Hawks’ newest hairs, a wavy style, pulled to the side. I went for a ginger tone to mix it up this time and to offset my beautiful earrings from Kikunosuke Eel.

Magic

I wanted to share this beautiful dress because it has a certain magic. Kiddo Oh creates her own custom mesh and has translated her skills to making absolutely gorgeous evening gowns, combining translucent laces with frills and satin. I am so lucky to be showing this gown because it is a review copy of only 100 that will be sold at the Luxury Fashion Fair, where all the pieces being sold are limited. This is an awfully gorgeous piece to be limited to 100 on the grid with the lace top, pink buttons running down the back, pink satin ribbon around the waist and skirt and beautiful frills, and all this done completely in mesh!

Magic

Nicole Egozy has finally come out with her newest skin and it’s absolutely gorgeous. With fine, exquisite features, the skin includes a ton of appliers (though none for favorite mesh bodies—yet). She also includes a variety of tattoos with cleavage, eyebrows, hair bases, and other layers to help match mesh pieces to the body. I added an eyeliner to dress up the skin, which is a gorgeous palette for makeup layers. Kikunosuke Eel has had a sale going on, which I ran to, of course, because he will be retiring pieces soon. I am not sure if this set of earrings is included, but make sure you get there. And MissAllSunday Lemon’s lovely side-swept curls is an elegant alternative to wearing an updo with a formal dress. I chose this pretty pink to highlight the colors of the ensemble.

Mollena, Redux

Mollena Redux

A few weeks ago I did a blog post called “Mollena,” based on a song by James Hunter, which I had heard while I was taking the photos for the post and rather liked, so I based the whole post on the imaginary Mollena of the song and a  bad girl I grew up with. Turns out there is a RL Mollena, and she left a comment on my blog making claim to her song and asking why I was not showing Mollena with her real race. (She could be full of it but really—how many Mollenas could there be out there?)

So this is for you, darlin’… Mollena Redux.

Mollena Redux

It turns out Mollena is a voice in the BDSM community, making her life from performances and speaking engagements about BDSM and leather. While I am fully cognizant that putting a corset or leather on her might make sense, I preferred to dress Mollena up in something that she might wear when she doesn’t need to wear leather. This chic little dress from Shinichi Mathy does the trick with its modern print and silhouette and soft fur hem. I can truly imagine Mollena putting this on with zebra-print boots like these from Bax Coen and feeling perfectly right, being the cosmopolitan jetsetter she is.

Mollena Redux

I am able to do Mollena right because of the work of Anzhela Karsin. She has opened a skin store called Angel Rock Skins, stocked with skins for African-American women, and in this she has done a great favor. No more do we see the skins of unlikely women of color but the honest, beautiful look of a woman like the RL Mollena. This skin has the right complexion for an African-American woman and terrific lips. It’s amazing work!

This presented a great opportunity to wear one of Mina Nakamura’s creations for Hair Fair 2011. I love these braids so close to the head and the matching hair base. It replicates Mollena’s look to an extent—she has blonder hair. I love this striking look on some women. I paired with sexy eyes from Ikon Innovia, and here is Mollena, complete.

There is definitely something sexy about a girl with an attitude and a pair of leather pants. ~ Eliza Dushku

Pink Funk

LeeZu Baxter does it again—making something so drop-dead sexy that I can only stare at myself. First the top, which was released a couple weeks ago. She combines a drapey bodice barely clinging to the body, held on by a zippered collar and wonderfully textured in her inimitable way. Then there are the leather pants, integrated with the boots and textured with a stylistic contrasting leather. Honey, does my ass look TOO wonderful in these?

Pink Funk

Atomicsparkle Skytower has released a new set of skins. One of the more beloved skin makers on the grid, she offers this set with its full lipstick on tattoo layers. I opted to don a full wavy style from Queue Marlowe, who keeps threatening to come out with more hair soon (once she recovers from her whirlwind trip to Europe). My eyelashes, from Viola Leigh, have little specks of glitter.

Summer Dancing

Last night found me “stuck” (yeah.. stuck because the music was so good) at SL7B listening to the infamous Bradley Gazov doing his great blues set, away from Hotlanta.

Summer Dancing

I wore a cute outfit for my night out. First a top from Delora Starbrook, pretty and sexy all at once, very well drawn in a beautiful color. Then shorts from Barbra Kungler with cute little sculpty cuffs. And pretty bangles from kikunosuke Eel.

Summer Dancing

Finally new hair AGAIN from Truth Hawks. This one has streaks—I am totally digging these streaks! (They are subtle today—I used dark blonde.) And the shape of this hair is sexy! Finally wedges from J’s. I can’t day enough about these shoes and their pretty toes. They are so versatile, so chic and up-to-the-moment, and so sexy. Thanks to all these great creators, I looked great at SL7B!

Stalking the Deal

The deal—it can be right there before your eyes, but to get your hands on it, to finally close—that requires a certain amount of stalking and cunning.

Stalking the Deal

For a woman, it’s sometimes harder to close the deal. The pressure about how you present is so strong—too sexual and you’re a mindless bimbo, too conservative and you’re unimaginative and frumpy. This look, put together from several elements, represents a woman who has sex appeal but also knows how to “git ‘er done” and done right. She doesn’t sacrifice her sexuality or femininity for a boring suit and she doesn’t sacrifice her integrity for bad business.

Onyx LeShelle helps break out of the boring suit trap with her new jacket (part of a set of clothing and shoes just released at Maitreya). With its almost tailored silhouette, it lacks the button-uptightness of most suits with its neutral linen colors and almost mandarin color. (And blessedly, the sculpties are mod so you can line the plackets up).

Stalking the Deal

Underneath a leopard print silk top, which I made from combining Morphine Janick’s bra with violett Ellils’ top (which lacked “coverage” when worn alone). Each piece separately would be too revealing. Together they worked. Long wool shorts from Migi Voom complete the look, showing a shapely leg but also provide a tailored and professional look.

The jewelry is where our businesswoman gets her touch of style. With leopard print hoops from violett Ellils and beautifully textured wild bangles from kikunosuke Eel, she pushes into the realm of dangerous (and she’s clearly careful about the details). Who wouldn’t want to seal the deal with her?

Stalking the Deal

Finally, shoes from cocoro Lemon. With their closed toe and black heel, they are quite conservative. It’s the open back and the wild (and just gorgeous) leopard skin fur that makes them outstanding and makes our lady command attention—for all the right reasons.

Stalking the Deal

Chevette

I am having some sort of crazy free-form neural connections happening while I make this blog. I have been reading William Gibson’s book, All Tomorrow’s Parties. In it, California is divided into two states—NoCal and SoCal (which I wonder might really happen now the state is in such dire straits), and people are living in shantytowns in Japanese subways and on the Golden Gate bridge. One of the characters in the book is Chevette Washington, a former bicycle messenger and resident of the bridge and now on the run from an abusive boyfriend. I also read a recent article in the New Yorker about economists Paul Krugman and Robin Wells. And I heard a report about Heidi Durrow’s book, The Girl Who Fell From The Sky, on NPR, with a character who is biracial (wherein she made a great point about Obama being biracial).

Chevette

So with all this in my head, I went to LionSkins again after reviewing them in my blog yesterday and found Lion’s new Nikita skins, which reminded me a lot of buff, ropy muscle Chevette. Nothing is specifically described about Chevette’s skin color, but I imagine her as multiracial (probably influenced by the brilliant and strong Robin Wells, who is African-American). Lion does a great job on these skins making an alternative-style but beautiful woman. This is really important. In a virtual world that is *mostly* Caucasian, representation for people of other races or cultures is difficult to find. Lion gives us a delicious alternative.

Chevette

This little get up is from Joy Laperriere and made for the tribute to McQueen. As I understand from her partner, this was one of Joy’s first creations and it’s quite good, especially the sexy shape and the finned shoulder pads. I accompany it with bracelets and nails from kikunosuke Eel. (Any adjustment problems you notice are because these are no mod. I move one into place and the rest get displaced. Ugh.) However the building and textures are exquisite—as we have come to expect from Mr. Eel.

Chevette

Finally we have the issue of the boots. There was quite a kerfluffle over Megg Demina making designs from RL designers and showing them in SL. To be honest, I thought she did a terrific job of making them and showing them and these sequined numbers are brilliant in shape and texture. I believe what Megg has done is no different than Andy Warhol making a Campbell Soup can. She is not taking a trademarked logo or brand and using it as her own—she is replicating a shape and style in a new medium–appropriating. Is she creating art? Well by putting it in Second Life, she may well be. The production of these pieces could be a discussion about the production of virtual commodities, the artifice and insubstantiality of fashion, the easy replication of the “precious” art piece, etc. There is no tradeMARK infringement for a piece of clothing. My gut says nothing wrong was done here.
