Snowblind

My friend, Asima Saad, offered a guest blog out of the blue and I gladly accepted it because I will be out of town for a few days. So here is Asima’s blog with her photos and her story. “I get by with a little help from my friends…” Thank you, Asima.

She waved back over her shoulder to her favorite barista and stepped back out into the cold–too cold–air. She shivered with a little ‘Brr’ sound escaping her lips. Though she knew the walk back to the car would be a long one. When she had arrived the lot was filled with cars, but now it was completely empty.

This all had set the stage for what began to happen next. Without warning, strange white flakes began to descend from the sky. They were large, and at first, she was concerned as to what they were. She’d seen ash fall from a burning building, but this was different. There was no smell of smoke. No flash of flame on the wind. Just the cold, and the peace that came with it.

The entire city seemed to just accept this graceful blanket being dropped upon her shoulders ever so gently. And Asima too couldn’t help but but smile skyward. Her skin tingling with chill and excitement. It was her first real snow, and it was quite awe-inducing. That something with so much power, could be so still, and so completely tranquil.

Leather Power

My uniform is leather and my power is my age. ~ KISS

When I don leather, even in SL, I feel a sudden surge of power. Not sure what it is—wearing the skin of an animal, the smell, the squeak. Today I feel especially powerful as all the pieces I wear were made for the Maitreya Lara body and fit perfectly so I spent less time adjusting my shape and alphas and more time playing. Start with the corset top from Tatyana Ultsch, which comes with a texture-change HUD with an assortment of colors for the main leather (belts always black). Then add the harness mesh pants Paul Lapointe and BastChild Lotus just released, especially fitted to the body. With their elaborate HUD, you can change the color of the main leather, the color of the harness, and the metal. I clicked around to find a look I liked then put on Glamistry’s higher than high heeled pumps with their own brilliant clicky texture-change HUD. Accessories like the color from Sora Tatham at Shiny Shabby and Tatyana Ultsch’s cuffs complete this look.

I donned one of AtomicSparkle Skytower’s newer skins with brows and lips and used her body applier to fit everything together. With Audrey Lamede’s new eyes for The Men’s Dept, I think I made a pretty but intense look, which is what you want your best leather-wearing powerful woman to have. Jourdanmcmillan’s sexy side-swept hair, on which I applied an ombre texture, completes the look perfectly.

I am not covering my ears here because I want you to tell me something good. I will tell YOU something good. LacunaInc have put out these absolutely drop dead sexy separates at My Attic this month, and wow. I love how LacunaInc uses bold graphics to get her point across, combining them with great easy silhouettes. She cleverly sells these separately, so if you want to mix and match with other pieces or change up the colors, you can.

My shoes are also something good I can tell you about though considering how late I am blogging this, you might get mad at me. They are one of the two pairs Eku Zhong is featuring for the 21 Shoe this month. (I really hate this one-day-only sale thing but what are you gonna do? Call it 21 and 22 Shoe? Hm….) You have to drop what you are doing RIGHT NOW and run to her store to get the shoes if it’s still the 21st. They are sexy, fashionable and gorgeous.

My hair is Kattington’s newest for Kustom 9, a great poofy rockabilly-inspired updo with shaved sides. I chose to wear a hairbase from Maddox DuPont and eyeliner from Shyla Diggs to lend a little more edginess to the look. Big bold earrings with texture change from Ryca Doobie (the biggest in big earrings in SL) and of course, Aida Ewing’s bright red lips on her skin for Collabor88. Hope I told you something good. Now you tell ME something good!

Winter Is A’Comin’

Yesterday it was cold and the wind was blowing the sparkling crystals of snow off the trees, glistening in the sunlight in a most spectacular way. We are supposed to get more snow today and the skies have that certain gray cast. I realized once I put together this blog every item I am wearing relates to winter storms. First start with Poulet Koenkamp’s newest dress in “Turbulent Gray.” With a storm of translucent skirts, shimmering with swirls and feathers, this gown includes an optional fur stole.

My jewelry is Isaura Simon’s generous and lovely diamond snowflake and necklace, offered on the KittyCats Advent Calender as yesterday’s gift, a perfect accessory for this winter look, especially as I stand in Tya Fallingbridge’s gazebo decorated with white lights and surrounded by Cory Edo’s snow-kissed trees, both available at FaMESHed.

Aida Ewing recently released a set of skins at Collabor88, adding to my cool and beautiful snowy look. Kavar Cleanslate’s hair (appropriately from the “Wild Fusion” set) is cool and blue with white and gray highlights. And Maddox Dupont is offering these gorgeous “infected sky” colored eyes in the Peace on Earth hunt.

Did they know when they wrote these lyrics that they were prescient—”mesh and lace”? Voshie Paine has combined them to make this lovely dress for the Black Fair. With a gorgeous system top in black lace over a beautiful flowing mesh skirt, this dress is extremely elegant, especially in black. (I took it dancing and the mesh skirt performed well. I would not do the tango but other moves worked.) I accessorized with pearl s from Barf Delicioso (yep, folks, examining the creator yielded that), which are being sold at Collabor88.

My mesh hair with color change bow is one of Truth Hawk’s newest. Pearl earrings are from Maxi Gossamer’s set at the Black Fair and my eyes are from Maddox DuPont’s group gift for his seventh rez day (old man!). My luminous skin is Hlin Blackbird’s lovely offering for the Black Fair.
