Shorts Weather

It’s not quite shorts weather. In fact, it’s still abysmally cold outside. I have been going through my plant catalogs without a lot of enthusiasm this year because spring has been slow in coming this year. So what am I thinking wearing shorts?

Shorts Weather

Lynaja Bade has the answer with this darling outfit—wear tights with the shorts!  This serves two purposes actually—warms the legs and saves your knees from the dirt when you are kneeling down poking at your irises and carefully teasing out the old plants from last year from the tender new shoots. I love the textures in the outfit–the old-fashioned print on the blouse, the wooly tights. This outfit is dirt cheap (no pun intended) at her store right now with several other great things on sale as well.

Shorts Weather

I am wearing one of Sophia Rossen’s new shapes. I realize she includes a styling card with each shape, and my choice of skin is not the one she chose. (In fact, she gives you a whole set of information–where to get skin, eyes, and hair.) Nevertheless, it’s a fine shape with a lovely face and works well with Tuli Asturias’ newest skin, which is another home run. Is it a terrific shape or a great skin that makes me look good here? I don’t know, and does it matter because I look cute.

Late Nights in the Groups

I was up late last night chatting away about Thanksgiving and shopping and the banter flew around. The thing is, it wasn’t local chat—it was group chat. For some reason groups have gotten a lot chattier for me. While I am blogging or working or running around shopping alone, I am in group chats chatting. It’s almost a form of texting with the group chat being a mobile phone (and I have seen some chatting FROM their mobile phone in group chat). This is why it’s so important to people that LL get this fixed. It’s social glue.

Late Nights in the Groups

I put this ensemble together while I was chatting. I love these new dresses from AvaGardner Kungler. This is AvaGardner’s forte: using complex textures in clothing—prints of various florals and abstracts run over clothing with exquisite texturing in the shadows and highlights so that the clothing seems to be made of a material with an expensive sheen. She carries it through to her jewelry as well, if you look closely at my necklace.

Late Nights in the Groups

This is one of Truth Hawks’ new colors—quince—on one of Truth’s new hairs. I show it with Mallory Cowen’s absolutely gorgeous Julie skin, which I *love* for redheads. Originally I was a LAQ girl with red hair before I decided to transform myself daily. Mallory still does it for me with her gorgeous skins.

Hello, Dolly!

It’s no secret I have been watching a lot of East Asian television shows. I am beginning to understand the influence of fashion from that side of the world.

Hello, Dolly

Eshi Otawara was certainly influenced, this time from the Harajuku girls in Tokyo. And who better to take on the exaggerated cartoon styles of the Harajuku? Eshi has fashioned another one of her fluffy pieces, this time into a sort of Lolita-style dress, equipped with flowery stockings and puffy sleeves. She paints her pieces with a flowery Eshi-like Asian-influenced texture, combining the modern with the more traditional.

Hello, Dolly

I wear a skin from JOMAN Mai that has the sort of otherworldly makeup that an outfit from Eshi needs. The freckles add to the Lolita spirit of this look, as do the cute little shoes from Kookie Lemon. Finally, ponytails from MissAllSunday Lemon, these flopsie and mopsie, make the look complete.

Really Fun Librarians

People hear RFL being mentioned all over the grid. Those of us in the know know it means “Relay for Life,” but if you tossed those letters out during some half-drunken party game, what might you get? “Really Fun Librarians?” “Rolling Floor Laughing?” “Rhubarb-Flavored Ladyfingers?” “Radioactive Fruit Larva?” “Raising Furious Leprechauns?” “Radishes for Lunch?” “Really Fat Ladies in Ragged Frumpy Leotards?” “Reghan Fondles Lauraleigh?” (Don’t ask.) “Really Frickin’ Lazy?” (Which is what I was when I asked my pals in “Hey Girlfriends” to help me with this—thank you, Girlfriends.)

Really Fun Librarians

I think it means “Really Flirty Livery.” (OK, yes I am making a stretch here but play along with me.) Elle74 Zaftig is donating this entire outfit for the benefit of RFL at the Fashion Fest. With 9 sims and some 100 designers offering hair, jewelry, clothing, shoes—the fest has anything your avatar could desire with donations by each designer for RFL (“Relay for Life,” not “Righteously Fantastic Lovers”).

Really Fun Librarians

Elle’s outfit is an especially good find because it comes with EVERYTHING you see on my avatar (minus the hat, which is attached to the fantastic hair from Kookie Lemon). You get the flirty minidress, laced up the back with a bow on the curve of the butt, the bracelets, and the cute boots, also laced up the back.

Really Fun Librarians

I show the ensemble with a new skin from Mea Carnell. Mea is putting her full effort into making skins for the avatars of SL, trying her turn at a little different look with shimmering lips and very drawn and not highly made-up eyes (this was probably the heaviest eye makeup in the set I have). I loved the pastels with the white hair. It makes for a cute chic look.

Skinned Knees

A cute short dress, a pair of boots, I could be any number of cute girls wandering the grid.

Skinned Knees

This cute dress, excellently done, was a 50L Friday deal from Keiko Morigi. With its gray and blue and red plaid, puffy sleeves, cleverly hemmed skirt (irregular hem on the prims AND pants—brilliant), and sweet neckline, this dress would serve any girl well.

Skinned Knees

Keiko has come out with a new line of skins that I quite like. I had not always been a fan of her work—the eyebrows were oddly shaped and the coloring was too extreme and artsy in a way that didn’t turn me on. I saw a lot of them on the feeds and frankly, I just didn’t get it. However in this new set, I like the eyebrows much more this time, the lined eyes with a little tiredness underneath, the sweet freckles and great blush and glow on the skin and the sweet, sensuous kissable lips. It’s very touching and very real. This is an artistic statement, this skin, but it’s wearable. (Being art doesn’t mean it can’t be pleasing to look at.)

Skinned Knees

Speaking of art, I just showed these boots last week, but let me give you another good look at ‘em. With their realistic textures and exquisitely rendered sculpties, these boots from Kookie Lemon are the real deal.

There is something so attractive about a disaffected girl to some. She is a bundle of pent up potential with nowhere to put it, kinetic energy waiting to release itself on the world. Today’s Valentine roams the grid with a cigarette in her hand and a smartass comment always at the ready. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch her in a moment of vulnerability, and that is what makes her such a find.

If you’re lucky enough to find this Valentine, this might be the best gift for her—bra and panties from Annyka Bekkers. Simple, young, it’s not the pieces themselves that make the woman but the woman. Annyka makes understated simple lingerie for women who don’t need all the trappings of garters and straps to pull off sexiness. And it takes a great hand at system pieces to pull this off because there is nothing to distract from the essentials of the work. Annyka pulls it off.

I show boots from Kookie Lemon—brilliantly sculpted and textured boots for the woman who simply doesn’t have time for nonsense. The laces, the sole, even the socks—everything is exquisitely detailed and shaped. There is no overexaggeration on these boots—they are incredibly authentic. I swear I just stole them from my dad’s garage.

I show here the skin born from collaboration between LeeZu Baxter and Lion Jonesford. Get close to this skin. Take some time with it. It’s not an easy one, but neither is our Valentine. But she’s beautiful and unique and incredibly special.

City Girl on the Cheap

I spend an inordinate amount of time in SL in mismatched clothes, crazy hair on my head, whack skins on my body, one shoe on and one shoe off. And sometimes I am wearing a posing stand on my head (which is subject for another blog). Usually when I get the call to run somewhere, I start just dumping things on. I see a folder, wonder what that was again, and throw it on.

City Girl on the Cheap

Today when Raven called me to help her with something, I hastily rummaged through my inventory. I found a folder that said “*Kookie* 50L friday outfit!” Hm. Lessee what that comes up with. I dropped it on myself and watched as I transformed from crazy bag lady to cute urban chick. A dumpy sweater (with one of those center bell-shaped prim things) was replaced by a cute cowl neck turtleneck. Pink stretch pants from the 70s were replaced with cute polka dot leggings. Army boots were replaced by cute little flats.

City Girl on the Cheap

And a crazy pink alpha hair was replaced by this nifty hat with hair. And I paid 50L for the whole nine yards!

The skin, which you can barely see (but look at those beautiful eyes) is Tricky Boucher’s newest Alyson skin. You will be seeing more and more of this as the days go on. It’s gorgeous!
