I hope the title got your attention! Art in Hats starts November 1, benefitting the American Diabetes Association via Team Diabetes of SL. I am sure you think, “Why a hat? Where will I wear a hat?” I don’t go to Easter Sunday here in SL and the last really interesting hats I saw in RL were perched on Princess Eugenie’s and Princess Beatrice’s heads. However, if you get past the utility and consider that the designers in SL are creating hats that are a wearable piece of art AND that part of the proceeds goes to Team Diabetes, you might want to purchase a few.

For example, Nebraska Oddfish (palomasnow)/Dita Actor made this set of three hats that evoke famous artists (as she literally took “art in hats” to mean she needed to show art.. in hats). One hat, a surrealist’s dream, evokes Salvador Dali with its unexpected eggs and bacon theme. (And you can eat it for breakfast later!) The second reminds us of Andy Warhol’s tomato soup cans. The third is a tempest of stars like Van Gogh’s Starry Night. Made of mesh and the designer’s own textures, each hat is your own piece of wearable art.

I decided to don an “artist” look, a Victorian-inspired dress from ValentinaEvangelista for Shiny Shabby which has been fit nicely to the Maitreya body. With Victorian boots from Jackal Ennui, it resembles an outfit a girl in my village persists on wearing (even to Fourth of July—really).  I anticipate she will be attending a school of art and design in her future. My hair is a darling, blunt bang look from Kuranosuke Kamachi for Uber, and I exploited the dipped colors to their advantage. My skin is Inka Mexicola’s applier for the Cosmopolitan Room, which I find absolutely love on this mesh head.

Are you having a few issues with some alpha interference around the eyes with this head? Catwa Clip explained to me in Flickr that the eyes have to be modified to be completely sunken for eye depth so the system lashes don’t come through and mess with your makeup. Try this!

A Doll’s Life

Tatyana Ultsch is participating in Burlesque this month, and I thought I would dress up to match her great corseted dress. First the dress, which is a great mesh style that she has made with varying proportions for bigger booties and boobs and smaller ones. I matched it up with stockings from LacunaInc. These were made for the PhatAzz but I slipped the script out and put it in an Omega converter so I could wear them on the Belleza mesh body. I hunted around and found these great Victorian boots from Jackal Ennui, testament that an SL old timer can go with the times and do mesh well. My gloves from Fyre Furse and Sugar Falta I tripped on in MP and laced on to dress up my look. And my pretty necklace is Maxi Gossamer’s contribution for FaMESHed.

I am wearing Umazuma Metaluna’s skin for the Season’s Story, a beautiful look that comes with dark and light brows, a smoked eye tattoo option as well as blush and beauty marks and her great lip intensity system, for which I custom-colored my lips. (I love that option—any lipstick I want!) This time I used her applier on the Belleza body because I was having a problem with the Maitreya body in advanced lighting. The transition seems a lot better on the Belleza body for this applier.

Bubbles Clawtooth, that darling of fabulosity, has put this gorgeous loose hair out for Collabor88. With a separate HUD to switch up the color of the bow in back, it’s a versatile hair for many kind of looks, especially this pretty dolly look.

Mystic Realms Faire and Body Modification Expo both open today at noon. This should not be a huge problem for most because both fairs are open for a couple weeks, but you know it will become a huge thing trying to in. And frankly, I can see why. I got this darling little mesh dress from Cerberus Noel, which comes in four colorways, and it’s an ideal dress for a saucy wench or a spirited elf or a hunter. Paired with this intriguing and gorgeous necklace from XanXan Jervil and the awesome pirate boots from Jackal Ennui (which come rigged and unrigged so yes, Dorothy, you can adjust them to your Belleza body as I did), the look is fantastic and beguiling.

What is also beguiling at Mystic Realms Faire is the great furniture you can get for roleplay. Cherelle Capra is offering this amazing bookcase with all the books and a scale at super low prim count plus an amazing desk. Artizanmesh has made an incredible furniture set that includes in some pieces, single and couples poses. I was absolutely charmed by Tree of Life chair.

Seasons Story opened today too and Umazuma Metaluna has come out with a set of two fantastic skins for the event, both in fall colors. The coloring is warm with her typical beestung lips and provocative brows and eyes. My hair is Shylah Honey’s gorgeous look for the Body Modification Expo, a side-parted long ‘do with a beguiling wisp of hair across the face. I love this hair and think it could be worn over and over with many looks, especially with the great textures.

I’m a Little Teapot

I’m a little teapot,
Short and stout,
Here is my handle,
Here is my spout,
When I get all steamed up,

I cried while I sang “I’m a Little Teapot” when I graduated from preschool. I looked out into the big audience of smiling parents and could see strangers everywhere–everyone except my parents (who were there but standing the back where it was too dark for me to see). There’s a whole metaphor there, a poem, (and probably two years of therapy) but I won’t get into it. And perhaps it’s an apt story about being a newbie in SL. (You enter, knowing no one, and stare out at a whole bunch of very strange strangers. It’s the ultimate in performance anxiety.)

What brought the song to mind was this cute little dress with its blue and white chintz pattern made by Quinlan Quimby. I loved the shape of the dress with the shirred sides and sheer underskirt. The textures Quinlan uses are soft and shiny and very perfect for this outfit. Had she extended it to ballgown length, it would make perfect sense in a historic RP sim. However, she has opted for a more contemporary silhouette with the short skirt.

I wear it with a new skin from Lorac Farella, part of her Tomorrow line. I really like this set with its more subtle and burnished make-ups and painterly details. Lorac includes a wee beauty mark near the lips, a lovely touch. The porcelain skin is a perfect piece for this silly little teapot trope I have going.

Finally new and funky boots from LeeZu Baxter, done under her own label. One thing LeeZu does so fantastically well is create artistic textures with subtle shadowing and wild colors. The boots, the torn stockings from Canimal Zephyr, the cameo from Jackal Ennui (with the BEST ironic store name on the grid, imho) all add up to a cute little outfit, fit for this teapot (who has been known to get steamed up).
