My travel budget is kind of slim this year so I am relying on travel within SL to sate my needs. Addy Hax and several others from her community built a lovely little parcel based on their pretty sim in SL. You get a taste of little Italy right at SL11B (which still has the sims open). And what a taste it is!

Which brings me to Italian women. How do they manage to eat all that pasta and still stay so chic and lovely? I think it’s the lifestyle—the cobblestone streets, the pretty views, the refreshing air. (Yes, I realize this is a very imaginary Italy but I think the attitude of enjoying life, of seeing beauty, of feeling the invigoration of living is certainly an Italian way of being.)

I decided to go chic with one of GraceHaddington’s newest designs, which she is soon to release to the public for her summer line. On July 5 and 6, LivGlam is hosting a fashion show at which the entire collection will be released. Grace is terrifically excited, and I can’t blame her. This piece, with translucent top and skirt, has Grace’s signature luscious prints and her inimitable style. I can only imagine a dress this chic in Italy.

I accessorized with Erratic Rain’s new slingbacks for Summerfest. Erratic does her own mesh and she’s painstakingly meticulous about it, so when you get a pair of her shoes, it’s like buying handmade Italian shoes in Milan. Every single pixel is perfect. She offers these in a variety of classic summer colors and prints. Abraxxa Anatine’s dangling semi-precious stone earrings with a texture-change HUD allowed me to find the perfect look to match.

Shyla Diggs’ makeup for her latest skins at the Liaison Collaborative is lovely—deep and sensuous and as usual, we see Tricky Boucher’s great work on this lovely skin. My hair is a twisty ponytail from Shylah Honey from the Manga Fair, a great look for a manga style, I am guessing, with its corkscrew shape, but also chic enough for this look with wispy bangs pulled to the side.

Pink Punk

A pink punk princess is today’s look, made so by Datrip Blackbart’s fascinating dress made for Fashionart. With a metal framed peplum skirt over a zebra-striped and rose bud black mini, the dress is a juxtaposition of textures and ideas and overall, a success. I love the modified halter top of the dress, the colors, the idea of metals and fabrics and sequins, and yet it all goes together, unified by the color pink. GraceHaddington’s versatile handbag, being sold also at Fashionart, has a 60 Pantone color HUD. Senzati0n Domenitzo is offering these terrific strappy shoes at Fashionart with six colors on the HUD and they fit Slink feet. Yay!

I dressed up Aleida Rhode’s intense new skin with pretty pink lips and prim glittering eyeshadow from Aida Ewing. (Yes, mesh eyeshadow!) Chiaki Xue’s newest boy hair makes the look with her great pink hairbase. The hair is what turns the princess into a pink punk and makes her sleek and edgy. Blue Belle

Fashionart opens tomorrow and GraceHaddington is contributing a few gorgeous pieces, including this amazingly patterned dress and these high heels. While Grace is using template mesh for these pieces, what makes them work are the great patterned textures. I really get tired of solid colors all the time. Grace has a great sense of proportion for her patterns too. Both the dress and the shoes come with texture-change HUDs so you get several choices. (If you go to Fashionart looking for the dress, she shows it in a golden/yellow pattern.)

What makes my Blue Belle truly belle, of course, is this new gorgeous skin from Umazuma Metaluna with her tintable tattoo lips. Uma’s skins are expressive, unique and almost painterly with a beautiful artistic touch with an elegant façade. Truth Hawks and Maxi Gossamer are participating in Collabor88’s Rockabilly theme this go around with great retro-made-modern looks. The wavy ‘do that Truth has meshed up includes a color change bow that you do not need to wear (it looks just as good without) and comes in several sizes for your varying chest sizes *ahem*. Maxi Gossamer made these darling cat-eye glasses with color change for the wings, the shades and the lenses for a variety of looks.

Persevere

Of the Earth signs, Taurus most relate to an unmoving force of nature that has become wise through perseverance.

I was born under the sign of Taurus, and I represent my sign well. Some will feel I have stubbornness, but I prefer to think of it as perseverance and steadiness. One blog I read suggested that the Taurus wants to get things done, and that pretty much sums me up. Taureans also love material things, beauty, the earth, the sensual and the grounded. “Down-to-earth” is how many describe me.

This outfit is a perfect choice for me as a Taurean. It combines a cozy long sweater with artistically patterned leggings and sexy red heels. Made with a texture that makes the sweater seem plush and expensive, the outfit from Kim Lysette, which she has at LivGlam this weekend for 55L, is nevertheless a deal, which is important to Taureans, who like to spend on beautiful things but also want to make sure they have financial security.  My shoes, a buy at 70L, are AvaGardner Kungler’s offering at The Dressing Room Fusion. Beauty on the cheap is a great thing.

My hair is one of Queue Marlowe’s Arcade pieces. At 50L a pop, it’s well worth it because she gives you a full array of colors in each hair and has included a darling little charm for every sun sign. She gave me the Taurus to show after I stubbornly insisted I wanted it. (Go figure.) My skin is a melange of pieces from the Aria set from Aida Ewing at the Arcade. She has configured it cleverly so you can get add-on pieces and mix and match for a great look. Pretty blue eyes from Isabelle Requiem, for the One Word event, complete the look.

Too Much of a Good Thing

So too much of a good thing can be a good thing when it’s cantaloupe or spring weather or Sunday afternoon naps. The Girl Scout cookies we just got, on the other hand…. You can never have too much good fashion, however, and LivGlam and K Collection has a way of giving us a lot of a good thing but it’s never enough. Take this sexy dress from Kim Lysette— a simple black and white pattern with subtle red undertones over a long sleeved dress with a low cut back. It’s just enough of too much.

Tobias Convair finished this sectional for FaMESHed in the nick of time for your personal pleasure. With single, couples and adult poses, this handsome piece can fit perfectly in your Convair loft from the last FaMESHED or in any space that needs a modern look and an adult feel. The party’s (almost) over. (I still have people coming for dinner tonight!) I’ll admit, despite Andy Rooney’s advice, I have cleaned up the wrapping paper, though the gifts are still scattered about. (Clearly he has never had to manage a house.)

To add glamour to the task, I have put on a new dress from Kim Lysette, one she is offering for a mere 49L right now if you get over and grab it. With a beautiful exotic texture down each side and a long straight mesh skirt, this dress is elegant and chic. Add Maxi Gossamer’s jewelry for Fameshed and the look is tall and thin and hides the Christmas cookie weight I gained.

My long wavy hair is one of Truth Hawk’s newer ‘dos, a side swept look with his characteristic beautiful textures. My skin is one of Shyla Diggs and Tricky Boucher’s newest with a pale lip and beautifully lined eyes. And Funeral Plutonian is offering these lovely eyes at the RMK Gothic Fair for a fresh alternative.

I realized I needed to get over this cold thing and SL was the place to do it. Instead of trying to warm up, I just put myself on the flip side—the other side of the planet in Australia, where Christmas is warm and summery. In Australia, I don’t need the boots, the long underwear, the damn hat and mittens. I can wear a short little mini dress and do just fine. This minidress from SamanthaSJones is ideal with red roses and a skirt that’s just up to there, perfect in the holiday heat. Nuria Augapfel and Claire Messenger’s sexy high heels with a gift-wrapped bow are ideal in green, completing the holiday look. And if you look closely (past my darling bangle from Maxi Gossamer, featured at Collabor88 where everyone is falling into the water because they didn’t reset the tp point), you will see Giela Delpaso’s international-flavored nails, offered as her exceedingly generous Peace on Earth hunt gift. I chose the Australian nails, of course.

Julia Merosi is generously offering this chic and sassy little kittycat necklace as yesterday’s KittyCats Advent Calendar gift and Sileny Noel is offering a set of sexy lined eye makeups (one of which I am wearing) as today’s gift. And Sawsan Secretspy’s sunkissed skin is the look to have for a summery Christmas, glowing with radiance from the sun, exuding warmth for a hot holiday.

A cold front has blown through my town and the rest of the country and we’re all huddling in for the duration. Paul Lapointe and Bastchild Lotus just released this chic pair of boots in autumn colors that include a color change for the boots, the strap around the boots and the sole. In typical L&B style, the boots are sexy down to the last detail and versatile for many looks.

SamanthaSJones proudly released this trenchcoat recently. I have seen the style in other stores but not with Sam’s unique twist on it. Rather than offering the coat in many colors, you get a coat OF many colors with her special hud that allows 120 different colors. I have to be honest—I was late on this post because I spent so much time clicking all the colors, trying to decide what I liked.

Helyanwe Vindaloo offered this blushing, cold weather skin in the KittyCats Advent Calendar yesterday. Remember that you can get previous days’ gifts in the calendar up until Christmas, so if you missed yesterday, get it today. My sleek hair is Tabata Jewell’s newest style, offering a close-to-the-head style that looks chic and fashionable, perfect for the new menswear haute couture look or for wearing short under hats (or earmuffs—these from Izzie Button).

The Shoe In

“You can’t by happiness but you can buy shoes, and that’s the same kind of thing.”

I have been to Heaven and back, and I’ll tell you, it’s quite a trip. Shoetopia opens today, and while I’m not an “official” blogger for Shoetopia, I was given early access and blogger samples with a bunch of other great bloggers, so I feel obligated to tell you about my visit and share some celestial enlightenment.

In true form they have made a literal shoe Heaven in the two sims. A path wanders through the clouds leading from gazebo to gazebo—a paradise of shoe shopping with some of the best shoe makers in SL and even a few designers who have dipped their toes in shoe-making (rather successfully, I must say). Highlights in my memory include Gos, N-Core, Lapointe and Bastchild (some to-die-for men’s shoes), Boom, Bax Boots, Pixel Mode, G Field, Slink, Baby Monkey, League, Kittie’s Lair, Ingenue, ArisAris, and BSD Design.

My first shoe is from BSD Design, one of the participants in Shoetopia. BabyChampagne Sass is donating 100% of the proceeds from the sale of one her shoes to Shoes4Soles (no link given in the Shoetopia blog), which is a generous donation for the caliber for BabyChampagne’s work. In fact, it seems each designer is giving 100% from one item, which is pretty damn generous. (Not positive how it works—donation details haven’t been posted on their blog and the press release they sent out was TLTR.) I pair it with a handbag from Juno Martel, proceeds going to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan from the Water Lantern Festival.

Let me tell you my impressions. First tip: Just get the Slink feet already. You can buy them right there as I did. Many shoes being sold are built around the feet. Of course, the price tag on some of those shoes is a bit high considering they don’t include a foot or the fancy HUD work that makes a footed shoe or the Slink foot cost 600 or 700L. You can get a nice Gos shoe or N-Core for the same price without having to mess around. (In other words, I willingly pay Gos and Nuria for development costs for their HUDS and webhosting. People who build shoes around a Slink foot shouldn’t be charging as much because their cost is simply not as high.) However there are a few darling and reasonable shoes that fit the Slink feetsies. I gave up and got the feet myself just so I could wear the cute shoes I keep seeing.

Second, be prepared for this event: lag is gonna be a huge issue–more than it should be. Graphical lag may well be a factor–I am not sure if textures from the vendors have been enforced at 512 or less. However, sim lag is definitely gonna get you because of the build. None of the structures or vendors are phantom and of course, all the charity vendors are scripted as well as the gacha vendors. Avatar scripts had not been turned off as of my visit there.  If the organizers experience sim lag—and they will—it’ll be about the massive amounts of collision. There’s so much folks can do before opening without asking customers to dress like newbies. They haven’t done it all.

Finally, let’s be frank: you’re not going to get in right away, kids. Agent limit is 45. That’s ok! Shoetopia goes on for TWO weeks. Don’t rush it. You don’t have to be the first one in. The shoes aren’t going anywhere and your size won’t be sold out. They are passing demos out in a group and a map is being posted on their blog so you can find the creator you like quickly. Besides, the lag during the opening days should be enough to discourage you. Take your time and wander over during the next week when you hopefully can enjoy the shopping with less lag.

Give the organizers a hand. It’s a lot of work. And goodness knows, they mean to do well because they have been at it for months. And the designers really showed up for this event. Hit Shoetopia before it ends on November 30 and drop a few on Shoes4Soles.
