My Brand New Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat

My Brand New Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat

Well, I see you got your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat
Yes, I see you got your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat
Well, you must tell me, baby
How your head feels under somethin’ like that
Under your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat

~ “Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat” by Bob Dylan, as sung by Raphael Saadiq

My Brand New Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat

Now see this is why I like Kimmera Madison. I IM her to request a leopard-skin pill-box hat for no other reason than I really like a song (see above), and she makes it for me! (You can get your copy at her store FREE for the You Go to My Head Hunt.) What’s even cooler is I hit the Bay City Fashion Week, which is chock full of vintage content creators in a great area built by my little friend Marianne McCann. Great job, Marianne!

This dress from Anabella Llewellyn is a vintage beauty with its sleek textures and beautiful side tie. I can see Joan in this or… me in a brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat. I will be honest, I had to dig around in my inventory for my accessories—I won’t tell you that the items are available at their respective stores (like the shoes, which were a 50L Friday item a couple years ago), but I needed to complete the look as I pleased. (And now we know why my inventory is so bloated!)

My Brand New Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat

What DOES complete the look is Hart Larsson’s new skin, which includes luscious eye and lip make-ups. I have been using Hart’s cat-eye everywhere and loving it. His skin has a more refined, almost vintage look that I love. It was suggested to me that this skin made her look a little haughty, I said the song is perfect for her—a little ditty to give her uptight demeanor a tweak.

My Brand New Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat

Well, I see you got a new boyfriend
You know, I never seen him before
Well, I saw him
Makin’ love to you
You forgot to close the garage door
You might think he loves you for your money
But I know what he really loves you for
It’s your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat

Betty, Betty, Where Are You?

Oh, Betty, Betty, where are you, you mean mother inside all of us mothers, you dissatisfied wife in all us wives, you pretty thing who thought all you needed to do was look good and get knocked up to be happy? When did all your hopes and dreams turn into lumps of black rock in your stone cold heart? Will you ever find fulfillment, our Nordic goddess?

Betty, Betty, Where Are You?

Betty is actually one of my favorite characters in Mad Men because she is the enigma, the most complex, I think. She’s no dummy—we know she can speak fluent Italian and read quite a bit.  She has a much better education than Don, who learned from the school of hard knocks. While Don has his existential crisis, Betty’s own personal crisis is in being stuck as who she is. Who can blame her for being a bit bitchy?

Betty, Betty, Where Are You?

Today’s Betty is brought to you courtesy of Aree Lilibub, Tiffy Vella, and Bubbles Clawtooth, via Mallory Cowen. Aree has a store full of cute clothes—lots of vintage sun dresses and cute capris and nice little tops done with great detail. And this skin from Mallory Cowen is ideal for blondes, especially our Betty, who was once a fur coat model when Don met her. Glowing beautiful skin, pretty make-up—perfect for a former model.

Betty, Betty, Where Are You?

Our shoes are a little more contemporary but nonetheless perfect for a woman who wants to show off her legs. Gospel Voom has made this set versatile, with color changing scripts in the laces, ribbon, seam and toe material. The number of combinations seems endless. And the photosourced woven sole is a great touch.

Joanie, Joanie.. Where ARE you, Joanie?

Let’s face it—the rest of the world can’t help but let it self into SL. In this case, the need for Mad Men to show their fourth season is getting urgent in my household. I need some advertising. I need some people drinking and smoking recklessly. I need some big hair, stat!

I am reproducing Joan here (played by the voluptuous Christina Hendricks) in a dress by Ikaria Daviau. Ikaria offers mid-range clothing for career women in SL (meaning business) with some dressier pieces mixed in. They are good, clean system pieces without a lot of daring-do.

My skin is from Tuli’s newest line, employing the “c” option (the bustiest one). I had tried to lay a great tattoo layer on top, but 2.0 has been icky for me. That will have to wait for another blog. I wear a hair from Bubbles Clawtooth I pull out time and time again (without wearing the kitten).

Greg [to Joan]: You don’t know what it’s like to want something your whole life, plan on it and not get it.

Mad Men

When the show Mad Men first came on, I was not able to watch it. Out of the blue, several friends told me they had seen Harper on Mad Men and sent me photos of Joan Holloway.

Well I have finally gotten around to watching Mad Men. (OK, I have only seen one episode so far so I am not quite understanding the comparison that had so many IM me with photos. I think it’s the red hair–I hope that’s all.) I thought I would try to do a little Mad Men post here for fun. It kind of spun out of control.

Mad Men

First there was the hairspray. Then the cigarette. Then the darn scotch. (Oh, the scotch, the scotch… where’s the aspirin?) Then I had the dress from Micah Kanto. OK, admittedly a little low cut for the 50s, but the print was so 50s and the neck scarf made it so fashionably office and after-hours. Micah’s Modern Gypsy shows the work of a young man emerging into fashion. I love how he used this print.

Mad Men

Then there were the long red manicured nails (by peche Bury), the obligatory charm bracelet (a beauty from Skinkie Winkler), and the hair.. oh the hair!

This magnificent piece of work has been sitting in my inventory for a bit, waiting for the perfect moment. Leetah Moxie hair makes hair no one else does—some wicked Lara Croft hair, Lucille Ball, and even Pebbles and Bam Bam. I highly recommend a trip to her store. The name—Curl Up and Dye—matches her sense of humor perfectly.

Mad Men

Then there were the eyes. I had to have that heavy Dior eyeliner curling out of the eye. Lorac’s new skin did the job and matched the muted tones I see on Joan Holloway (a redhead can’t do bright red as well).
