Lapointe & Bastchild at Fashion for Life

The love story of Paul Lapointe and BastChild Lotus is almost as romantic as their clothing. Married last fall in real life, the two originally met in SL and reached around the world to be with each other. Their love and romance imbues everything they create—you can go from dark gothic to sexy casual to pure beautiful to tall, dark and handsome when you shop at L&B, all with their cojoined style.

Dark gothic is Lapointe & Bastchild’s bread and butter. Somehow the energy created between the two individuals brings out a dark romantic vision that is deliciously intriguing and sexy. Paul and BastChild agreed the New Orleans-influenced Irving Penn sim, built by Syngen Sohmers, was an ideal home for their store. New Orleans holds many fond memories for the newlyweds.

Both creators have honed their skills and provide more and more creative work, serving all moods of their customers. For example, this sexy punky little outfit (shown with their versatile color-changing boots that include a hud—FFL Exclusive!) highlights how they can go from dramatic romanticism to sexy grunge in one turn.

Even casual is no problem for L&B, as shown by this darling little outfit with its cropped hoodie sweater, distressed jeans and funky sculpty belt. Paul and BastChild’s talents contribute so much to SL and it’s an honor to have them sponsor a sim at Fashion for Life.

And they also make men’s wear. This iconic tuxedo will make any man stand tall and handsome and take him around the grid in style. They also offer the incredibly-styled shoes shown (and honestly, there are only a handful of really great men’s shoe makers in SL).

Paul and BastChild have participated in Fashion for Life for several years because they know how important the work the American Cancer Society is. In 2007, cancer was the cause of death of 13% of the people worldwide (7.9 million). It killed 700,030 people in North America in 2007; 2,326,515 in Eastern Asia in one year; more than 50,000 in Australia that year; and 521,303 in Western Europe in 2007.  It’s a global disaster, much more expensive and tragic than any other disaster you might see on TV or in newspapers right now. Relief for this is needed year round, year after year. Paul and BastChild’s generous donation adds a small bit to this. They also know, despite the “American” in the Society’s name, their donation will help globally.

Cowboy

I found this guy lurking in my subconscious. He’s a little country and a little bit rock n roll. I also think he’s the kind of guy who throws things on in that sort of seeming nonchalant manner (which is really very studied).

Cowboy

Let’s start with the sexy shirt from MarilynMonroe Munro. Marilyn’s business is putting out separates for casual wear—shirts, accessories, headphones, and outfits for women and men. This shirt is sexy—well textured with wrinkles in all the right places and a great versatile color.

The shorts are from Paco Pooley, inexpensive and very well done with a great camouflage texture and cargo bags and ties on the side. A lot of guys complain that there is a lack of manly clothes in SL—these shorts should keep you guys quiet for a day or two. They are just right with a nice uh.. shadowed feature in front.

Cowboy

One important part of completing the look is accessorizing. I think I work harder on accessorizing my male looks than my female looks. I found this brilliant hat on XStreetSL and ended up running over to Jon Ree’s for some great bracelets (do you guys call them that or are they like “European Wrist Decorations”). The wheat I fished out of my inventory.

The handsome face is courtesy of KaoZ Koba. I have noticed more and more men walking around with this devastating look. I am not sure how Pompeja can stand it, looking at this on KaoZ and not jumping through the monitor.

Cowboy

The final accessory are the boots from swaffette Firefly. These are boots for the cowboy who likes his crocodiles on his feet and his buckles around his ankles (and do not ask me about the multiple strange meanings that sentence might spawn). swaffette makes these for both men and women but they seemed more appropriate for my cowboy here.

Happy Birthday, Dad!!!! ;) (Yes, my RL dad reads my blog because he’s in Second Life. He follows NONE of my fashion advice, however.)

The Fashionable Gentleman

SC put together a look this week that I insisted he blog. Based on what is walking down today’s real life runways, the look is composed of elements found on SL—all adding up to one great-looking man. ~ Harper

As Harper knows,  I’m interested in RL fashion that translates to SL. The RL menswear Spring/Summer 2010 shows are history, and next summer mens accessories seem to be reaching their golden age. There were more than a few interesting belts trucking down the menswear runways à Milano. And more interesting ways to wear them. I pinged on how Raf Simones is styling with belts cinching or snaking around classic suits, blazers and, well, everything else.

The Fashionable Man

Running to my inventory, I threw my Rfyre* black double belt over SF Design’s new Westminster Suit. The shape and layers are great to style up with different accessories. Opting out of a tie, I added the scripted Afghan stole from :sey, creating a layer of tamed-down John Galliano. The shoes are an elegant, classic, Hermes Men’s Formal Shoes in black leather from Styles of Edo. I love anything with the name Hermes in it.

A wardrobe should be curated a mix of a lot of elements that work together. I got good advice from a RL fashionista friend from a major brand–“…anyone who wears head-to-toe anything looks like a Sales Associate at the store.”

SC Tracy got back from his winter holiday rarin’ to go. Find below his recommendations for the New Year. ~ Harper

Resolution, 2010: Wild Sided

Yeah, it’s 2010. I’m goin’ bare chested. Not because Harper asked me to take my shirt off again. (Not that I mind! ~Harper) I just got a chance to preview a new skin series from WolfM Voyager of SaWoDe*, “Pascal” in the Sunkist skin color. It’s a hot, totally dangerous skin that has versions with different tats over either left or right eye. Sexy eyeliner, enviable six pack, with almost bare, beautifully rendered chest hair that will get the attention of the ladies, and statistically many of the men.

Resolution, 2010: Wild Sided

This was a rough week for me, it was new years. I needed to go to a place to gather my strength, a place to recharge my spirit and refocus.

Resolution, 2010: Wild Sided

I went to Le Look. Specifically, Weird Monkey Design (WMD) at Le Look. I’m  thinkin’ I gotta get wild, gotta hook up. With some new jeans and a few accessories, and boots, too. Looking around, I somehow wound up at the WMD main store, scanners locking on  Ronin, The Zoo Jeans. I’m wearing the dark edition. What the hell, picked up the regular wash, too. Some of the best matched and fitting sculpted prim legs I’ve seen. Love the sculpted legs with the turned up cuffs. Sexed-up low-rise. Color and workmanship, ultra real. Back pocket detail has an almost designer late 70’s, early 80’s feel.

Resolution, 2010: Wild Sided

Then a moment Zen—the WMD, Necklace. A simple design, Yin and Yang 70’s chic.  Great, idiosyncratic  detail, especially a screw closure in back. But the moment of Zen ended quickly when I saw Rawdoll’s studded Juxtabelt and its biker “Iron Cross” buckle. Also, got the fully scripted (like amazingly so)  Nuthin’ But Trinkets bracelets, which I wear constantly. (Both include men’s and women’s sizes).

Resolution, 2010: Wild Sided

Finally, das boots. New from GutterBlood Spoonhammer, the Rot Test Boot. These are a masterful interpretation of a paratrooper boot. They’re the sh*t. The realistic, detailed texture speaks volumes about where you’ve been and what you’ve been doing. I’ll leave that to the individual to interpret. But interestingly, they’re fully scripted for not only color (Dark, Black and Red) but prim weight as well. Those clubs get so damn crowded, no one wants their boots responsible for crashing a sim just as the party gets hot.

Hot Winter

This post introduces SC Tracy, a friend and associate and a RL man! He is also now an occasional guest blogger for menswear right here. This doesn’t mean I will be giving up the menswear gig—just means SC is going to bring a different perspective to it once in a while. (Actually, this guest blog is here because SC spent so much time telling me to change my hair, my skin, and my shoes for the last menswear blog that I told him he should try it. So he did!)

Only on SL can I defy my mom’s perennial orders not to leave home during the winter with an open coat…or a shirt. I live in NYC so going and coming from the gym today in 22 degrees with a windchill of God-knows-what got me thinking the obvious: Winter’s different in SL–it isn’t cold.

Hot Winter

I took a trip to Coco Homme. In typical SC Tracy fashion, I got the Flight Jacket in both brown and black (I like to be prepared) so why not pick up the Slim Fit Pants in both black and white? Hey, what the hell, the Slim Jeans Belt, too. It turned out to be one of the easier ones to adjust the size of I’ve found.

The fit on the pants is perfect. I love the rise. The prim bottoms make it very easy to adjust the length for whatever shoe your wearing—like the old-school kicks I picked up from Soreal.

Hot Winter

The jacket is worthy of RL runway, sexy and a major construction. The zipper’s realism is a superb detail. A realistic weathered leather bound by great prim work throughout the design. Adjustable cuffs. Stitched black leather trim detailing front and back, a great collar shape and a cozy shearling lining.

Hot Winter

The kicks, well what can I say? As I wrote before about SOREAL Superstars, it’s hard to parlay a pair of prim kicks into a reason for living, but these come close. Scripted and easy to fit, and very authentic, down to the logo design on the heel, shell toe and broken-in detailing.

The Menswear Look

One of the best tips I EVER got was early on in my SL when Heather Rau said, “Buy boy hair. Doesn’t matter if you’re a boy.” I was photographed on the pages of the Second Life Herald wearing the Poynter from Armidi (bought when they were still doing business out of a trailer and had only three hairs) and showed I wasn’t afraid of making the boy look work for me.

The Menswear Look

So it was not a surprise when I helped coordinate a fashion show this weekend for Shenlei Flasheart featuring men’s clothes, and I saw a lot of ladies buying the clothes. (It really didn’t hurt that the 12 men modeling flirted like mad and sold those clothes, almost off their own backs.) I am featuring one of the suits Shen sold—the most discreet of the batch without the plaid pants and vest (which she made to show that you CAN do straight lines with good seams on system pieces in SL—I swear.)

The Menswear Look

And here are the vest and plaid pants, worn as a separate sort of outfit. Kind of sexy, I think (though I still have the glasses and hat on).

The Menswear Look

The suit is not the only surprise here. I donned hair from Maddox DuPont, changed up the hat color a bit (darkening it for my needs), and slipped on some glasses from Solar Flare (what a name).

The Menswear Look

It’s not menswear well worn by a woman without womanly touches. That’s why I wore this delicate skin from Lorac Farella and super sexy heels from Onyx LeShelle. I might work in a man’s world and even wear his trousers (and vest), but I will always be a woman.
