Have a Laugh

Have a Laugh

“Life is worth living as long as there’s a laugh in it.” ~ L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

Have a Laugh

One of my goals with this blog is to find things people will want to do or spend money on in SL that will enhance their experience. I don’t get to show everything I enjoy but this time I want to share with you, my dear readers, this darling little avatar from Hiko Nino, which is one of a set she made for the TAG Gacha. A member of the Skin Addiction group, who had spent way too much money on the gachas in this event, sent me this avatar and I loved putting it on and wearing it. With an AO built just for the avatar (which includes a ton of great poses), it’s fun, hilarious, silly, goofy, and all the stuff that contributes to the play we like so much in SL. The rare edition also allows the choice of colors for the avatar and the star. I posed among Sway Dench’s topiaries for today’s Fifty Linden Friday. The flowers have color change in the menu script. Yay!

Have a Laugh

The TAG Gacha itself is a pretty interesting set-up. You go to their parcel and click for a HUD from a sign and then you walk into the circus tent to have it activated. (It took me a bit to understand this because I wasn’t reading the script text in chat as I should have been.) It’s not entirely apparent how it all works so I am giving you the hints here. Then the HUD uses the new features of SL to teleport you to all the participants to see their gachas. This is beneficial in a few ways: 1. you have to see all the gachas so all the creators get a crack at your attention and a chance for you to see their store, 2. you aren’t stuck going to one laggy sim and fighting to get in. Once you fill out the whole card (and there are a lot of great creators participating), you get a chance to go their bonus room, which has more gachas from other creators. The biggest downfall of the event is the adherence to a circus theme. How many more circus things does a person need? They should have let the creators choose what they wanted to sell in the gachas.

Stephanie Says

I heard this Velvet Underground song while I was preparing the photos for this blog entry and thought she looked like a Stephanie. So Stephanie says you need to get over to Fantasy Collective and get this lovely dress form Kiddo Oh, make of her custom mesh with her gorgeous satiny textures, imprinted with a Celtic pattern at the waistline and cut up the side in a very sexy way. Paired with a gorgeous choker from LouLou Teichmann from Shiny Shabby and Senzati0n Domenitzo’s generous donation shoes for Fashion for Life, it’s a sexy look.

Stephanie Says

It’s also a fantasy look, made mostly so with this incredible skin from Aikeo Reiko that she is selling at Skin Fair. Aikeo never does anything mainstream though her work is incredibly popular. This fantasy skin is luscious and sexy as if for one of the alien girls Captain Kirk might seduce with the veins or cracks in the skin texture. I wore Marisa Karu’s gorgeous hair for Shiny Shabby in platinum to bring another touch of otherworldliness to the look and with the texture-change scripts in the hair band and flowers, made a lovely customized look.

Bonsai

Bonsai

A bonsai can never be a finished work of art…because it will always be a
living piece of nature, continuing to live and grow. ~ John Naka, master bonsai cultivator

Bonsai

I like to think each one of us is our own bonsai, grown and pruned with patience and care, shaped by our environment. My beautiful geisha look was carefully developed and grown, starting with this sexy kimono from Iki Akiri, which comes in fitted mesh only. I am still trying to love fitted mesh with mixed feelings. It means I have to use the fitted mesh viewer, which doesn’t always love my computer (performance varies depending on the time of day for whatever reason) and because I still have to tweak my shape somewhat. For this kimono, my butt and hips still had to be tweaked. *sigh* The textures are lovely, especially with a cascade of roses flowing over the skirt and it’s so much fun to wear a kimono in SL that is not made up of 100 different prims.

Bonsai

The Arcade, the bastion of legalized gambling in SL, will be opening on June 1. Take your chances at a number of amazing things including the great prizes I show here! First off, this amazing ‘do from Truth Hawks that includes *squee* sushi as decoration. I went for the traditional cherry blossoms but I know I will be wearing this with the sushi décor in the future. Then Umazuma Metaluna amazed me with a set of gorgeous evocative skins with smokey eyes and gorgeous full lips.

And of course, the bonsai in question are from Arduenn Schwartzman for MadPea and come in 14 variations, but this is the kicker: when you pair the right ones up, they play a piece of music for you upon click. (Yes, thank you, not over and over until you go bonkers). The two tall ones are rares and are a pair and I clicked and listened to a cut from a ponderous symphony. I also noticed they have subtle sparkles that glimmer ever-so-subtly. Buy one, buy ‘em all!

Hindsight

“Life is all about ass. You’re either covering it, laughing it off, kicking it, kissing it, busting it, or trying to get a piece of it.” ~ Stephen Jolly

Hindsight

Today it’s all about the ass.. well the new “Cute Azz” from CK Winx. This is the follow-up to the very popular Phat Azz that has proliferated across the grid, amazing some and well frankly, disgusting others. The Cute Azz is meant to be a toned down and improved version of the original and in this respect, it is. The derriere is smaller and the legs are more shapely and proportionate. It’s definitely not nearly as outrageous.

Hindsight

So I ran out and got it—I couldn’t help myself this time. It really is silly to be mod of a skin group without knowing some of the products people ask about, and well, I was curious after seeing some photos. The photos you see here compare my Harper shape as I customarily wear it against wearing the Cute Azz. I will note that to make the mesh look better on me, I did lower my body fat and belly to 0 as suggested, both of which are above 0 on Harper’s shape. I also increased the hip width and length slightly to make the mesh piece look more proportionate on me.

(Let me interject here with a big hint to all you fashionistas out there: rigged mesh pieces can be made to look better on you when you fiddle with your shape. For the Azz, it responded to changes in hip width and length. For Slink hands, I STRONGLY encourage you all to increase your hand size to 30 or 40 because your regular hands will look like T-Rex hands when you wear the mesh. Do not be so attached to the numbers that you end up looking freakish—they are sliders with arbitrary numbers, not a remark on your own personal value.)

That being said, I found the Cute Azz with the thicker thighs to indeed have an appealing curve on the fronts and backs of the thighs and the calves. I didn’t care for the skinnier legs on the regular one.

Hindsight

What really put me off, again, was that ridiculous thigh gap, which I first saw in a pair of Maitreya pants, and which shows up on both Azzes. Though it’s a RL fashion, it’s been written down by such august fashion institutions as Cosmopolitan because it puts ridiculous body image ideals on women. It’s really got to stop—most women don’t look like this and most of us don’t want to. Additionally, the gap causes the ass itself to have a funny peak to it which you can see in the photos comparing my system shape to the mesh butt. It’s really odd and not in line with how a truly luscious lady’s butt looks.

I believe it’s possibly a function of how mesh works on our avatars—I see lots of gaps under arms, between legs, etc. It’s a really unfortunate result. I challenge CK Winx to get rid of that gap on her next revision.

Hindsight

I concluded, after trying it out, that I can live with Harper’s regular shape for most purposes. I can see the appeal of the thicker thigh piece for certain shots that would accentuate the legs but it’s such a minor difference, I can’t see the point.

Let me give a rundown on the fashion here. I saw this outfit from Amberchaudry Corpur that included a Phat Azz applier at the Designer Circle and thought it would be ideal for a sexy look. I dressed it up with a  hip chain from Maxi Gossamer that I love and which includes sizing on all axes, so you can make it hang just right. Boots from Syntella Rhapsody fit my bootiliciousness and Aida Ewing has included appliers for everything with her new skin at the Season’s Story, where this great hair style from MissAllSunday Lemon is also being offered (and great to get if you can swim through the lag).

“Unless one decorates one’s house for oneself alone, best leave it bare, for other people are walleyed.” ~ D.H. Lawrence

Home

This is going to be one of those mega blog entries where I share all the pretties I have picked up or been given. Start with this fabulous skybox from Tobias Corvair, which he is featuring at Fameshed. He calls it the “Architect’s Skybox” but I have figured out that it’s the gacha-player’s skybox with all its wall space and shelves. I hung the clever windowboxes from Barnesworth Anubis outside with his pansies and vines (which you can’t see) and took a shot through the window. Barnesworth makes the flowers super big so you can arrange and shrink them. A great tip is to LINK them when you have arranged to reduce the land impact.

Home

Tobias gives the main floor a big space so you can enjoy a main living and social area. I arranged a more traditional chair from Hideki Carami’s gacha at Chapter Four (you get two chairs in the “prize”) with Cory Edo’s latest chairs for Collabor88. Cory’s chairs come in a handful of great decorating colors (lots of neutrals) and have a huge variety of poses and animations and, if you’re in the mood for love, delectable adult animations.

Home

Tobias tucks little shelves under the staircases—the one up to the bedroom, which I made into a contemplative loft lounge—and then another up to a top-floor balcony. I put some of my yard sale gacha finds on the shelves, particularly my collection of art dummies from Robin Sojourner. (Yes, I do the gacha yard sales. Your trash is my treasure!) And he gives you an abundance of walls. I was able to hang my entire collection of LeeZu Baxter gacha posters around the skybox.

Home

Tya Fallingbridge has a nice set of home accessories at FaMESHed including this modern lounge chair with footstool, side table and funky flower lamp. The chair includes several relaxing poses including this contemplative one, perfect for resting and listening to music after a long day.

I opted to make coffee the theme of the kitchen downstairs, using a darling graphic from Isabelle Requiem’s gacha at Oh My Gacha. She includes several kitchen and house décor items, including the rug beneath my feet. These little touches are what makes a house a home.

Home

My outfit is an assemblage of pieces I liked together—first, the slouchy sweater from Sanura Snowpaw, a warm casual look for being at home. I paired it with Ivey Deschanel’s skirt from her ensembles at the Dressing Room Fusion. I am so glad to see Ivey working with mesh. Her textures have always been outstanding and at 70L, the skirt and top (which you don’t see here) are a steal with the quality she puts into them. My little boots are LeeZu Baxter’s mesh concoctions, wearable art on my feet rather than just on the walls.

Shyla Diggs has come out with a new skin for Collabor88, and I wear it with pleasure, opting for a pale lip to match the smoky eye, which accents a pair of eyes from Umazuma Petaluna’s gacha at Chapter Four. Fortunately, I lucked into these blue beauties though looking at her prize board, they are are all gorgeous. Amberly Boccacio is offering several colors of this funky necklace at Collabor88—it comes with silver or gold metal. And Circe Ishtari has made a long short cut with winsome wisps and a color change menu in the hair itself—click for colors and relax.

Seduction

Seduction

Seduction is always more singular and sublime than sex and it commands the higher price. ~ Jean Baudrillard

Seduction

A long slinky dress in black with little flickers of skin showing, a strappy sandal, a sexy back, long wavy hair and deep red lips and nails. Who could be immune to this seduction? This incredibly sexy dress is a creation by Joeylin, who has exploded with gorgeous, sexy content since I last saw her shop a few months ago. The texture on this dress is peekaboo, as many of her textures are, though this is incorporated with the dress (the dress includes both lighter and darker skin versions).

I am wearing Gospel Voom’s latest shoe, the Eva. It’s a classic, old-school vamp with a stiletto heel. As always, the skin matching is a breeze with his special matched library of skins. I colored the nails red and ran out to get Jamman’s mesh nails, which I had been hearing a lot about in Fashion Emergency. With a special hud, I can adjust to three lengths and several colors of red with the set I bought.

Seduction

Tricky Boucher probably has the most seductive skins in SL. With soft and sexy features, the Shyla skin has a ton of attraction power, especially with the red lips I added from the set. Long wavy locks from Truth Hawks’ new collection soften the look, making me old-school movie star fabulous and Deco jewelry from Tiffy Vella adds elegance and completes the look.

Butterfly Kisses

Butterfly Kisses

Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you. ~ Nathaniel Hawthorne

Butterfly Kisses

The bee balm of monstrous proportions (it’s taller than me) in my back yard is about to bloom and when it does, my garden will be filled with butterflies. I can’t wait! In honor of this summer treasure, I feature butterflies (again), this time on this gorgeously textured halter dress from SamanthaSJones. She makes no apologies for using mesh templates, which she textures like mad with gorgeous prints and solids, ubiquitously found at events, this one at the Fashion Stars event.

My shoes from BabyChampagne Sass, who also seems to put out a ton of product, can also be found at the Fashion Stars event. With a black woven texture, they are stylish with stiletto heels just tippy-to-fall-down enough to be chic.

Butterfly Kisses

This is another of Tricky Boucher’s Belleza Best Buy skins being offered this weekend. With freckles and dewy lips, it’s the kind of fresh look that shows off the butterfly jewelry that Abraxxa Anatine has recently put out. I used the color changers to find these color combinations. My short flippy do is one of Chiaki Xue’s newest, fun and well shaped with two little curls like butterfly wings.

Head Over Heels

logo composite copy

The shoes are off today. It’s all about my … head.

013113_003

I promised a peek at the new Sadie from LOGO, and today I can do it! The Sadie packs the same great fun as the previous mesh release from LOGO—Chloe–that I explained in my November post. But Maximillion Grant has completely redone the scripting and manner in which he serves it up to better meet the needs of his customers. So what’s new.

Well, first, Sadie has a different face than Chloe, fuller with a wider nose and more widely spread eyes. But the differences go beyond the looks.

logo5

First Max has made the HUD have drop out menus for applying makeups so you are not filling your whole screen with the hud. You can pick and choose the elements you want to open at will by clicking on the left bar. You want to mess with only lipstick and blush? Click them open and leave the rest where they are.

logo3a copy

Second, Max has radically altered how the expressions work. Before, you were able to click on an expression and your entire face changed to that expression. You can still do that by clicking on the nose of the expression.

logo2a copy

But now you can also pick and choose elements to mix and match. Want a sad smile with surprised eyes? Click the sad lips and the surprised eyes and you can mix and match them to make your own expressions.

logo4a

Also new? Max has made it easier to add in purchased elements. Want a greater choice of eyes? Purchase the eyes and simply drop the script in the hud. Click on the gray arrow left or right and you can scroll to that new set. This way you are not wearing a new hud and it’s ridiculously easy to store the new features into your hud without wearing a new hud. This makes adding new makeups REALLY easy–ridiculously so. You just drop the add-on script in your hud and you’re done–no other HUDs, no textures. Super duper low lag.

Finally, Max added some new things to the original Chloe which he has brought to Sadie, including hair bases and glossy lips. Overall there are total there are 96 available lipsticks, 32 eyeshadows and 12 blushes with add-ons available.

For the cost, you have purchased more than a fat pack of skins with this mesh head. You get the infinite variety of looks that would take bazillions of skins and makeup layers to achieve. You get the quick rez of the textures on the mesh as you switch around. And you get a beautiful face. What more could a girl want?

Below a bunch of looks I made while playing and PLEASE don’t ask for hair references because stupid me, I forgot to do them.

Bird in a Gilded Cage

Bird in a Gilded Cage

She’s only a bird in a gilded cage,
A beautiful sight to see,
You may think she’s happy and free from care,
She’s not, though she seems to be….

from the song, “A Bird in a Gilded Cage”

Bird in a Gilded Cage

Rogan Diesel is stretching his wings with two new pose props for photographers—the Nightingale’s Sorrow and Nightingale’s Glee. The cages are packed with interesting poses to exhibit a girl locked in a cage—perhaps a gilded one. I can see a lot of artistic photos coming from these props. The gold is, as its name suggests, full of more exuberant and joyful poses, some sexy. The black cage contains poses with darker emotion.

Bird in a Gilded Cage

My own bird is a vision in amethyst from Sascha Frangilli. She has come out with another of her versatile evening dresses-this one including a stole, three skirt lengths, and a more revealing bodice for nights when you want to go out to the club.

Bird in a Gilded Cage

I opted to put on Maximillion Grant’s ingenious mesh head again for this shoot. I introduced the Logo head a month ago, loving its versatility and quick rezzing. I had few points of concern and Max has addressed them. He recently upgraded the head to include an eye positioning option (so you can aim the eyes as you shoot) and a variety of hair bases. I was able to select makeups completely complimentary to my look, lending me an etherial air, especially with this beautiful mesh up-do from Kavar Cleanslate.

Bird in a Gilded Cage

The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom.

Orange you glad I didn’t say “banana”?

Orange You Glad

I’m awfully glad the little person in my house is over knock knock jokes. You can only say “Who’s there?” so many times before you start to sigh. I am also glad to wear orange, especially this smart orange set from SamanthaSJones. I found it as I was tripping around her store, looking for demos for her mesh. (Why would you have NO DEMOS for your mesh?) It was at a special price so I bought it and it fits to a tee and has a very smart texture over a purchased mesh template. Love the shape and look and the textures really do suit this suit. But tip, Samantha, put out demos and put the mesh on your own prims.

Update, November 16, 2012, 9 pm slt: I have since spoken to the creator of this lovely outfit, SamanthaSJones. The demos are offered in the scripted vendors in her store, but there is no mention of this as far as I can remember in her store. I still maintain that making a separate prim that says “Demo” is the way to go. It’s what we’re looking for. Second, in examining the suit, I looked at the first item I was wearing, which was an alpha, and it still bore the template maker’s name. The subsequent mesh pieces showed SamanthaSJones as creator. However, it IS a template. I am personally not against template use; however, I would prefer someone go the extra step to put the full perm template in their own name.

Orange You Glad

The look is made much more chic with Chiaki Xue’s newest hair for boys, which of course, I defy by wearing as a girl. I actually saw the hair on my pal Barely, and he and I both agreed—looks better on me. It might be this sexy skin from Tricky Boucher or it may be the incandescent new eyes from Ikon Innovia.

Orange You Glad
