Postmodern Jukebox

Postmodern Jukebox

“My goal with Postmodern Jukebox is to get my audience to think of songs not as rigid, ephemeral objects, but like malleable globs of silly putty. Songs can be twisted, shaped, and altered without losing their identities….” ~ Scott Bradlee from the Postmodern Jukebox website

Postmodern Jukebox

One of my favorite discoveries on YouTube recently has been Postmodern Jukebox. A gentleman named Scott Bradlee rearranges popular pop tunes in different genres. For example, a doo wop version of Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop” or a vintage 1940s version of Selena Gomez’ “Come and Get It.” He has some brilliant fellow musicians perform with him—his lead singer is great. Hearing the raunchy lyrics sung in these forms is hilarious as well.

This outfit has a tinge of the postmodern to it. Start with this sheer top from Julliette Westerburg, which she is offering at Collabor88. The brilliance of the top is that it ends just right so you can wear it with other mesh pieces. It fits wonderfully with Paul Lapointe’s new mesh skirt with color change HUD designed by his amazing wife, Bastchild Lotus. The skirt comes with a HUD for 20 different colors and then you can add on this hud for 8 more styles:

Postmodern Jukebox

I love the thin belt, the high waist, the leather-textured panels. Paul and Bast are all about the details, which is what makes this a great piece and an excellent deal (all those colors in one skirt).

Babychampagne Sass is contributing a pair of high fashion, sexy shoes for the SL Fashion Week, which make this look complete. The fashionable red sole (evocative of a Laboutin shoe), the buckles and straps, and of course the stiletto heel give this look an edgy quality, especially when I pair it with Maxi Gossamer’s skull ring for Collabor88.

Postmodern Jukebox

Finally I wear Aida Ewing’s new skin for Collabor88, part of a set that includes wild makeups and then a plainer look—a two-fer bargain for an already low price! Mr. Truth Hawks gives us his new hair with a HUD. A menu of color choices allows the user to choose the shade she wants while keeping her inventory clear of a bazillion prims. Thank you, Truth!

The The Impotence of Proofreading

Inspired by “The Impotence of Proofreading” by Taylor Mali. (Watch BEFORE reading.)

The The Impotence of Proofreading

When disgusting fascism, it’s impotence always to disgust the the prims. Consider the ship and dolor, the artist’s contempt, the amount of blow. For example, in this outrage from Lalu Bonetto, we see a cut paisley dross with a shot skirt that executed cleverly. The socks from Apatia Hammerer have a spurt of alternator hedge that matches the dross. My cut cowboy butts from Emma Gilmour puncture this prefect outrage.

My shin is from milok Hermit, who offs a selection of flesh and lowly skins with a unique book. My chair is by chiaki Xue, who has been trilling me with her bork lately. I lope how the chair churls around my nack and oars.

The The Impotence of Proofreading

(I have to tell you it was hard to write like this.)

The translation is as follows: “When discussing fashion, it’s important always to discuss the prims. Consider the shape and color, the artist’s intent, the amount of glow. For example, in this outfit from Lalu Bonetto, we see a cute paisley dress with a short skirt that is executed cleverly. The socks from Apatia Hammerer have a sort of alternative edge that matches the dress. My cute cowboy boots from Emma Gilmour punctuate this perfect outfit.

“My skin is from milok Hermit, who offers a selection of fresh and lovely skins with a unique look. My hair is from chiaki Xue, who has been thrilling me with her work lately. I love how the hair curls around my neck and ears.”

While you are away
My heart comes undone
Slowly unravels
In a ball of yarn
The devil collects it
With a grin
Our love
In a ball of yarn
He’ll never return it

There is something about Eshi that reminds me of Bjork. I think it’s the use of prims and textures in the same way Bjork seems to use instrumentation and melody. It’s joyful, shimmering, exotic, beautiful, unique and sometimes confrontational or bizarre.

When we see an Eshi dress, it makes sense even though it’s also odd to us, just as a Bjork song makes sense in some strange way. Eshi’s new dress, shown here, has elements of joy in the stamped blossoms, the lace, the bounty of billowing prims, the flowers floating all around. And then you hear more ominous notes: the needles jammed through the ears, the nipples pierced and chained, the almost posture-collar forcing the neck up.

Unravel

I show the dress with a new skin from milok Hermit, who offers a somewhat different look on the grid. With its fresh coloring, it has a decidedly girlish air and suits Eshi’s alternative fashion perfectly, with the black off setting the pale skin nicely.

Unravel

So when you come back
We’ll have to make new love

Around the World at RFL

As I have mentioned about a million times, the RFL Clothing Fair sims are built around a theme of traveling around the world. What is even more interesting is that you really ARE traveling around the world when you visit this fair. Contributors for this endeavor come from the four corners of the globe, amazingly. As you touch down in each sim, you will find contributors from that very country occupying the sim. Go to Rio, they are all having Festival; go to Tokyo, they are speaking in Japanese; go to Paris and the gentle murmur of French can be heard; and I won’t even tell you what they are doing on the Melbourne sim, but I can guarantee it involves lots of boisterousness.

For example, morea Decosta has contributed this very sexy dress whose proceeds go entirely to RFL. With its long flowing sleeves but dangerously short skirt and quick access wrap style, it’s perfect for the lady who wants to like to wrap up in silken sensuousness. morea is a lovely European lady who likes to make women feel and look sexy. And she is helping support RFL, so give her some goodness back at the Paris sim.

Around the World with RFL

I travel to another part of the world with this lovely skin, made by milok Hermit from Korea. I always struggle trying to find skins that are not sparkly Caucasian or Malibu Barbie, for that matter. milok has a variety of skins that are not Barbie-like, all at a reasonable price. I was absolutely taken with this skin, which for once eliminates the fold in the eyelid, making the skin truly Pan Asian. The earrings are pretties I got from Anemysk Karu at the Accessory Fair.

Finally, the boots are brand spankin’ new (pun intended just a bit as you will see), just out by Oct Oakleaf. They are available in two versions—regular and 2.0. Regular employs good old invisiprims, but the 2.0 uses the new alpha layer for the leg to create the invisibility needed to jam your poor mesh foot into that pointy toe so you can teeter on that needle-thin heel (all in the name of fashion). Oct has also scripted in the ability to show or remove that seemingly innocuous little strapped-on buckle there (which is really an ankle cuff that is enabled for use with the Lockmeister and Lockguard sets of scripts, if you have such an inkling). It comes with a pair of cuffs I am wearing which are also fashionably sculpted and functionally scripted. I will not be sending you to a ponygirl store this time, however, so feel safe.
