Make New Friends…

 Make New Friends

So this is what happens when some upstart blogger IMs you and gets all sweet and nice and funny. She lets you steal witty things from her profile. She dishes with you about her partner. Then, she sneaks up and asks to take your photo because of a blogger challenge. She asks you to look like yourself (whatever that is anymore, I am not sure). And then she takes your photo and you look like a billion bucks (see below).

Harper & Rainey

Rainey Manx, authoress of No Rainey Days, IM’d me and flattered me with her request to take my photo to answer Harlow Heslop’s question about what blogger inspires her. I was thrilled because Rainey’s work is incredible—she puts beauty into every piece she does (and I am incredibly envious because my PS and art skills stink). I was putty in her hands.

Make New Friends

Did we intend to dress to match? Nope. But that’s how similar we are in aesthetic–it all seemed to work. I can only talk about what I threw on; Rainey’s babeitude speaks for itself (and she has more at her blog). I started with a minidress and scarf from Trill Zapatero, who tempted me with several things at her store. I love the funky look of her things, their casual sexy hippy dippy coolness. All proceeds from sales at her store go to help Afghan women, so it appeals to my charitable side as well.

Make New Friends

My hair is my namesake from my someday partner Queue Marlowe (whenever Callie dumps me). Queue made the hair and then I sent a photo of RL Harper and we agreed—it matches. My skin, like Rainey’s, comes from Nena Janus’ beautiful mind.

Most importantly, our eyes come from a man we both hold dear to our heart—Ikon Innovia. I would like to think I am the reason they are together but I am guessing it’s more because of his devastating charm and her incredible wit and spirit. It seems Ikon lucked out. So did I in making a new friend :)

Meg

Meg

Her name was Theresa but everyone calls her “Meg,” because she is so much like nutmeg—brown, spicy and warm—and she smells faintly of spices. That’s because she works at the spice store around the block from me—one of my favorite places. She knows cooking back and forth, taught to her by her gramma, and she gave me the best recipe for banana bread that has among it’s spices.. well, what else but nutmeg.

Meg

Meg is wearing a darling retro skirt from Maya Levane, something she picked up at a vintage store topped by a comfy tank from moonbubble Gothly (whose store she loves). She loves jewelry and she has been to the Accessory Fair several times. She has a great set from Mouse Mimistrobell on—necklace, earrings and bangles. The set is as eclectic and funky as Meg herself. A pretty little ring from AvaGardner Kungler punctuates her look.

Meg

Monicuzza Babenco’s newest skin is an ideal visage for Meg with its sweet nutmeg tone and beautiful glow. The lips and eyes on this skin are sublime, incredibly attractive and sensual. Her hair is a beauty from Truth Hawks with its woven-in braid and streaks (which I changed to auburn for subtlety). Her toes are gloriously rendered by Siddean Munro in a pair of Siddean’s newest flat sandals.

Something About You

Something About You

A sweet pop song from the 80s like Level 42’s “Something About You” reminds me of less troubled times (though we thought at the time that they were troubled). It deserves a sweet innocent little white outfit and an almost unreal, doll-like skin.

Something About You

This pretty Victorian undergarment-inspired look from Neferia Abel, part of her summer collection release, is a light and summery look for a sweet girl in SL. Neferia is incredibly skilled at combining evocative textures with perfectly employed prims to create a believable silhouette. Whites are hard to do but she pulls it off and makes it look light and breezy. A pretty necklace from Mouse Mimistrobell completes the look.

Something About You

LiLO Glom offers skins that are kind of… cartoony or sticky sweet. It’s a look many like to have so they can almost approach an anime style. The skin does not fit my shape very well but looked fantastic on a new shape from Freedom Parx, so I show it here. I don’t think it’s a bad combo, especially with one of Truth Hawks’ newest styles.

Every Day is Mother’s Day

I am a mother, which is not news to many. My son, who is 8 years old, is the coolest, most wonderful, most excellent child in the world (except when he’s sassy). As I have explained to him, he exists to be hugged and kissed, loved and adored. I am incredibly lucky to be in a position to love him and take care of him without undue stress or difficulty and he really is a good kid (which is no reflection on my mothering—I think he was swapped at birth). A lot of people pay lip service to motherhood on Mother’s Day; not my kid—he reminds me every day that it’s worth the effort.

Every Day is Mother's Day

So today is a casual look for Mom—cardigan and jeans. This goes to prove that it doesn’t have to look frumpy. Starting with a thin-gauge cardigan over a peek-a-boo camisole from Emma Gilmour, this look can get a mom kind of workout. Jeans are a black-tinted casual pair from Aleida Rhode and Dolce Blackflag’s new boots complete the look so that utility becomes fashionable.

Every Day is Mother's Day

This fresh and lovely skin from aida Ewing is a sophisticated but not overdone look for Mom and Truth Hawks’ newest long hair is a great style for a casual day. A pretty necklace and earrings from Mouse Mimistrobell accessorizes Mom perfectly.

Every Day is Mother's Day

Me: What does Mom always say to you? (I expected him to say, “I love you.”)
My kid: Go to college!

Blue Monday

It’s a blue Monday only in color—not in feelings.

Blue Monday

It’s truly a delightful Monday. Miko Omegamu has just come out with another dress, and as always, it’s the picture of elegance and sophistication. One of the best pieces any woman can have in her wardrobe is a wrap dress and Miko makes this to perfection with a silk charmeuse fabric, elegantly tailored. I decided to dress it up with pearls from Mouse Mimistrobell and matching slingbacks from Pixieplumb Flanagan. A little clutch from Indyra Seigo adds a little pop.

Blue Monday

Finally I wear an elegant twist from Elikapeka Tiramisu (this outfit is all about twists and wraps if you didn’t notice) and Mocksoup Graves adds a perfect tint with her lip stain on a beautiful birthday gift Rhapzody Wilde offered at her store celebration.

Blue Monday

I petition that we call it silk Monday and wear silk.

Night Out

After a couple of weeks of hard work, it’s time for a night out.

Night Out

Monica Outlander makes that easy with her latest dress, Jeanie. With its romantic ruffles skillfully placed in asymmetrical fashion around a full skirt bustled with a gemmed bow, this dress is a mix of old-fashioned and modern. The simple bodice with its artfully placed shoulder piece and delicate embellishment weighs the heaviness of the skirt perfectly.

Night Out

I wear it with this delicate Asian skin from Gala Phoenix, which is almost a retro look. I have seen a look like this on reproductions of postcards, images of which I can’t find right now (though this is close). This skin was a huge boost for me when I first go it—I really like finding skins of other ethnicities in SL. I wear with Ikon’s lovely eyes (as always) and a set of earrings from Mouse Mimistrobell whose intricate construction echo the swirls on the dress. (I love when I can do this!)

Kunglers at Fashion for Life

Dear Readers–I know I have not blogged in a couple days. I apologize. (And I hate when people put this in their blogs but I have a reason!) Fashion for Life is in full swing for preparation and I have been terrifically busy. I can’t wait to see you all there!

The Kungler sisters, AvaGardner and Barbra, are sisters in RL. Hailing from Brazil, the sisters swap ideas back and forth from their Southern Hemisphere homes to make elegant and sporty fashions for women across the grid.

Kunglers at Fashion for Life

A visit to their store is a peek inside their dollhouse. It’s a home filled with sleek, elegant women wearing the latest fashions in a variety of lush prints and colors. Silk features prominently as does leather. They use some of the most gorgeous prints in the grid, carefully juxtaposing colors for the most pleasing and fashion-forward looks.

Kunglers at Fashion for Life

When AvaGardner learned of the theme of FFL, she IM’d me and asked if she really had to make black and white—she’s only about color. I told her the theme was about going “Beyond Black and White,” so we are guaranteed to see bold and bright colors from both sisters for the FFL donations. Their colors will reflect the support that the American Cancer Society provides for those diagnosed with cancer as well as their families. Their funding of research and programs brings color and life and to an otherwise seemingly hard situation.

Kunglers at Fashion for Life

Both AvaGardner and Barbra have supported RFL in the past and they join Fashion for Life for the first time this year. They will donate four items with all benefits going to RFL but they furthered their support with their donation as VIP Sponsors.

Kunglers at Fashion for Life

See what the Kungler sisters are offering this year at the Fashion for Life, March 12-22, SL’s biggest fashion fair on 9 sims hosted by the American Cancer Society and SL’s Relay for Life.

Kouse Singh at Fashion for Life

While our mission for Fashion for Life is to have fun and help raise funds for the American Cancer Society, for some of our participants, it’s a much more personal event.

Kouse Singh has always participated in Fashion for Life. She offered a statement for the blog so people could understand why she participates. Kouse says:

Every year when what was the Relay for Life Clothing Fair, and what is now Fashion for Life, comes around, I always make time to support this cause, which is dear to me.

In the span of my life, I’ve lost many a family member to cancer, and each time one of those souls passes, the tragedy of it touches those of us who remain with much grief, and sorrow, wishing it could have been beaten.

More than half of my own family members have been diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives, some of these on more than one occasion. My prayer is that through concerted efforts, such as Relay for Life, one day there will be a world without cancer. How much less pain, worry, and fear there would be, without this cruel, indiscriminate disease.

Kouse also offered that cancer is something that touches many people’s lives, around the world. These photos show Kouse’s sneak previews of her dresses and jewelry to be offered at Fashion for Life. The income made from these items will go entirely to the American Cancer Society.

Kouse Singh at Fashion for Life

This collection of dresses and jewelry will be offered by Kouse exclusively to benefit Relay for Life. They will be first offered at Fashion for Life.

Kouse Singh at Fashion for Life

As with all Kouse’s work, they show off her vision of a beautiful fairy-like world where women are garbed in formal and ethereal attire. Her gowns take inspiration from history and fantasy with richly made textures and prim pieces delicately placed just so to build a beautiful silhouette.

Kouse Singh at Fashion for Life

Kouse will also be offering this exquisite set of jewelry complete with bracelets that I do not show and two other smaller crowns tilted left or right so they can be worn with other hair.

Kouse Singh at Fashion for Life

It is our pleasure to host so many prolific and talented desigenrs such as Kouse, who are dedicating their craft and labor to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.
